PINL women, youth empowerment as a catalyst for economic development, regional stability By: Yebufura Woyengitonbara The Niger Delta region has long been recognized as the economic heartbeat of Nigeria due to its vast oil and gas resources. However, sustainable development in the region depends not only on resource extraction but also on meaningful investments in people and communities. In recent years, Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has demonstrated a strong commitment to community development through strategic women and youth empowerment initiatives that have significantly contributed to economic growth and regional stability. As the company responsible for safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure across parts of the Niger Delta, PINL understands that lasting security is best achieved through inclusive development. By creating opportunities for women and young people, the company has helped address some of the socio-economic challenges that have historically fueled unrest, unemployment, and pipeline vandalism in the region. One of the most impactful aspects of PINL's community engagement strategy is its focus on youth empowerment. Through skills acquisition programmes, vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and employment opportunities, hundreds of young people have been equipped with practical skills needed to become self-reliant. These initiatives have not only improved livelihoods but have also redirected youthful energy toward productive ventures, reducing the attraction of illegal activities and criminal enterprises. Women empowerment has also remained a central pillar of PINL's corporate social responsibility efforts. Recognizing the critical role women play in community development, the company has supported female entrepreneurs, provided business development opportunities, and facilitated access to training programmes that enhance financial independence. Many women across host communities have benefited from these interventions, enabling them to expand their businesses, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to local economic activities. The ripple effect of these empowerment programmes is evident in the growing number of small and medium-scale enterprises emerging across communities within PINL's operational areas. Increased economic activity has stimulated local markets, generated employment, and improved household incomes. This has created a more resilient local economy while fostering a sense of ownership and partnership between communities and the company. Beyond economic benefits, PINL's empowerment initiatives have played a crucial role in promoting peace and stability. Communities that feel included in development efforts are more likely to collaborate in protecting vital national assets. Through regular stakeholder engagement and inclusive empowerment programmes, the company has strengthened relationships with traditional institutions, youth groups, women associations, and community leaders. This collaborative approach has contributed significantly to reducing incidents of pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, and other forms of economic sabotage. As communities increasingly recognize the mutual benefits of protecting oil and gas infrastructure, peaceful coexistence has become more attainable, creating a safer environment for investment and development. Furthermore, the empowerment of women and youths has enhanced social cohesion by reducing economic inequalities and providing avenues for constructive engagement. The resulting atmosphere of trust and cooperation has helped build stronger communities capable of addressing local challenges through dialogue rather than conflict. As Nigeria continues to seek sustainable solutions for the development of the Niger Delta, the achievements of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited offer an important model. By placing people at the centre of its operations and investing in human capital, PINL has demonstrated that economic development and security are mutually reinforcing goals. The company's commitment to empowering women and youths is not merely a corporate responsibility initiative; it is a strategic investment in the future of the Niger Delta. Through these programmes, PINL continues to drive economic growth, foster peaceful coexistence, and contribute to the long-term stability and prosperity of the region.

PINL’s Growing Impact on Niger Delta Communities and Pipeline Security Between March and May 2026, Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) strengthened its role as a major stakeholder in the protection of critical oil infrastructure and the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta region. Operating across the Eastern Corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) and Eastern Gas Network (EGN), the company continued to deepen engagement with over 215 host communities spread across Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, and Abia states. Through strategic partnerships, surveillance operations, and empowerment initiatives, PINL has emerged as a key contributor to improved oil production stability and community participation in pipeline protection. One of the company’s most notable achievements during the period was its intensified community empowerment programme. In May 2026, PINL announced the empowerment of over 3,000 women from host communities across the Niger Delta, a move aimed at strengthening local support for pipeline surveillance and reducing economic hardship in oil-producing areas. The company also sustained youth scholarship initiatives and regular stakeholder engagement meetings, which have helped foster trust and cooperation between communities and pipeline operators. According to company officials, these interventions have contributed significantly to reducing pipeline vandalism and illegal crude oil activities in the region. PINL also enhanced operational efficiency through the deployment of advanced drone surveillance technology across critical pipeline corridors. In March 2026, the company expanded aerial monitoring operations using strategically located camps and mobile drone stations in Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, and Abia states. The surveillance initiative improved real-time monitoring and rapid response to threats, helping to secure vital national assets and reduce incidents of sabotage. Security experts and stakeholders described the technology-driven approach as a major step toward modernizing pipeline protection and safeguarding Nigeria’s oil production network. Beyond infrastructure protection, PINL continued to promote dialogue and collaboration with traditional rulers, youth leaders, contractors, and community representatives through monthly stakeholders’ forums held in Port Harcourt and Yenagoa. During these engagements, the company repeatedly emphasized that community participation remains central to national security and sustainable oil production. The meetings also provided opportunities to address grievances, strengthen grassroots intelligence gathering, and reinforce the shared responsibility of protecting national economic assets. Industry observers believe this model has improved relationships between oil-producing communities and security operators in the Niger Delta. As Nigeria pushes to meet higher crude oil production targets in 2026, the contributions of PINL and its host communities have become increasingly significant. Improved pipeline security and stronger community partnerships have helped stabilize operations along the Trans Niger Pipeline, contributing to increased national crude oil output and improved sector performance. While debates continue around the structure of pipeline surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta, many stakeholders acknowledge that PINL’s investments in local empowerment, technology, and stakeholder engagement have positively impacted both national oil security and the welfare of host communities across the region.

Professor Osaisai visits Ataba Monarch, seeks royal blessing for INC presidency Leading presidential candidate of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Professor Franklin Erepamo Osaisai, has continued his consultation drive with a strategic visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, King Dr. Benson Eguenre, the Okaan Ama of Ataba Kingdom in Andoni Local Government Area. The visit which took place at the Monarch's annex palace in Port Harcourt drew the presence of chiefs, elders, and key stakeholders of the Ataba Kingdom. The visit also formed part of Professor Osaisai’s ongoing engagements with traditional institutions and grassroots leaders across the Niger Delta ahead of the forthcoming INC presidential election. Addressing the monarch and his council, Professor Osaisai emphasized the critical role of traditional rulers in preserving the unity and cultural heritage of the Ijaw people. He noted that his aspiration to lead the INC is anchored on inclusiveness, development, and the protection of Ijaw interests across all regions. “I have come to seek your royal blessings and support as I aspire to serve our people at a higher level,” Osaisai stated. “The Ijaw nation needs experienced, visionary, and unifying leadership to address the challenges confronting our people and reposition the INC for greater impact.” He highlighted his track record of service, both in academia and national assignments, assuring the royal father and the people of Ataba that his leadership would prioritize advocacy for resource control, environmental justice, and youth empowerment. In his response, King Benson Eguenre warmly received the INC presidential hopeful, commending him for recognizing the importance of traditional institutions in leadership consultations. The monarch urged leaders seeking positions of authority to remain committed to truth, justice, and the collective interest of the Ijaw nation. The royal father further advised Professor Osaisai to sustain his engagement with grassroots communities and uphold the values of integrity and transparency if elected as INC president. The visit concluded with prayers for wisdom, guidance, and success in Osaisai’s political journey, as well as renewed calls for unity among Ijaw leaders and stakeholders ahead of the election.

GOOD READ INC election: the president we need By: Barr. Larry Amaebi Clarkson The position of President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) may seem enviable but it is saddled with enormous responsibilities. Thus, it requires steady hands, a focused mind with the ability for strategic thinking to deal with complex situations, and above all, the maturity to make informed decisions with sufficient circumspection. This is because the entire Ijaw ethnic nationality is expected to entrust their destiny into the hands of its leader, the President of the INC to pilot its affairs. Herein lies the need for the Ijaw Nation to be cautiously watchful in choosing a leader who should embody the requisite attributes for leadership. We need a man who exudes genuine confidence, mental alertness with strong positive visibility, proven record of leadership and above all, a good listener with an independent mindset. The perennial jobbers who in their illusory see themselves as owners of the INC, have gone to town with the false narrative that the President of INC need not be visible to lead. This is ridiculous and out of sync with reality. The Ijaw people know their antics and their scheme; they want to be shadow presidents to direct the affairs of the INC from behind. These same persons are making insinuations in some quarters that Prof. Osaisai's refusal to be stampeded into joining the protest and attendant court processes against the INC for the clearance and inclusion of the candidates who were earlier not cleared, was a sign of desperation for leadership. Such reasoning lacks depth, is absurd and mischievous. On the contrary, Professor Osaisai has at the bottom of his heart, the overriding need for oneness and the unity of the Ijaw people, and abhors divisive tendencies, which are mere distractions. The intervention of the Governor of Bayelsa State, HE Senator Douye Diri and the Deputy Governor, HE Dr. Peter Akpe, has achieved reconciliation of all the parties, and the enthronement of peace for the conclusion of the INC Electoral processes. This is quite commendable, and has restored honour to the Ijaw Nation. This positive development has also vindicated the position of Professor Osaisai. He is focused and not persuaded by frivolities. Not only has he displayed maturity, but leadership with a flexible disposition in resolving internal disputes. The Ijaw Nation needs men with intellect, maturity, clear mindedness and diplomatic finesse to pilot its affairs. Prof Franklin Erepamo Osaisai has it all.

How PINL is restoring the Niger Delta ecosystem In recent years, pipeline surveillance contracts have emerged as a crucial tool in addressing environmental degradation in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta. From the perspective of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), the firm responsible for securing the Eastern Corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), these contracts are not only safeguarding critical energy infrastructure but also catalysing ecological recovery and community development in one of the country’s most environmentally sensitive regions. Key ecosystem restoration impacts Elimination of soot pollution: Effective surveillance has drastically reduced illegal refining activities, which were the primary source of the "black soot" that previously covered homes, farmlands, and darkened the skies across host communities. Drastic reduction in oil spills: By achieving near-zero vandalism infractions on the TNP, these contracts have halted the continuous discharge of crude oil into delicate wetlands and waterways. Natural habitat recovery: With the cessation of frequent spills and illegal "kpo-fire" refining sites, polluted farmlands and aquatic ecosystems have begun a process of natural remediation and restoration. Incentivizing protection: By employing local youths as surveillance guards, the contracts provide a legitimate revenue stream that removes the economic desperation previously driving people toward environmentally destructive oil theft. Community-centric stewardship The "PINL perspective" emphasizes that environmental restoration is inextricably linked to community inclusion. Success is built on: Direct employment: Hiring from the 215 host communities along the Eastern Corridor. Stakeholder engagement: Monthly meetings with traditional rulers, youth leaders and other stakeholders to build trust and share real-time intelligence. Human capital investment: Initiatives such as university scholarships for host community youths to address long-term economic exclusion.

Press statement Miebi Biribena, Baraza CEO responds to EFCC statement of 6th September 2024 Our attention has been drawn to the Press Statement of Dele Oyewale, Head, Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with regard to the concluded suit at the Federal High Court, sitting at Yenagoa, Bayelsa State in SUIT NO. FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022 BETWEEN BLISS MULTINATIONAL PERFECTIONS LIMITED & ARC. DR. OYINMIEBI BRIBENA V. ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION. The case commenced on the 7th day of June, 2022 and concluded on the 22nd day of March, 2024 with judgment delivered on the 22nd day of March, 2024 in favour of BLISS MULTINATIONAL PERFECTIONS LIMITED & ARC. DR. OYINMIEBI BRIBENA. With regard to the above referenced suit, we state that during the entire proceedings the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was duly represented by their staff and counsel, M. T. Iko, Esq and E. K. BAKAM, Esq of their Port Harcourt Zonal Office. Arguments for and against the application were taken and heard by the Court and on the 22nd day of March, 2024 the learned trial judge delivered judgment in the suit in favour of BLISS MULTINATIONAL PERFECTIONS LIMITED & ARC. DR. OYINMIEBI BRIBENA. In the said judgment, learned judge "perpetually restrained" the EFCC from seizing properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Biribena. The judge also declared the seizure and sealing of properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Biribena by the EFCC as unlawful. The court further described as unlawful the instructions given to Biribena's bankers by the EFCC to place a post-no-debt lien or freeze on his accounts. The EFCC was restrained from "inviting, harassing, arresting, detaining, threatening to arrest, or detaining the Plaintiffs as a result of the civil dispute between Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited and its members, or on matters arising from the registered business objects of the co-operative society." The sum of N10,000,000 was awarded as exemplary damages against the EFCC for the unlawful seizure and attachment of properties belonging to Bliss Multinational and Biribena. It is indeed sad that an organization such as the EFCC will come out to the public to distort the facts or they are clearly not thorough enough to gather the facts correctly before going to the public with information which is clearly filled with lies. For the avoidance of doubt, all proceedings of this case are public documents whose Certified True Copy (CTC) can be applied for by the general public. This situation is even sadder considering the fact that before form 48 (Notice of Consequence of Disobedience of Court Order) was issued against the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a letter was written to the Executive Chairman intimating him of the case and the need to obey a valid court order and the said letter was received. It is very disappointing for the anti-graft agency to describe form 48 (Notice of Consequences of Disobedience of Order of Court) as a 4th September 2024 Court Judgement. Bliss Multinational Perfection Limited was never under any investigation by the EFCC and at no time was there any letter of invitation extended to Bribena with regard to the issues affecting BARAZA Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Limited, a Co-Operative Society which is governed by the Nigeria Co-Operative Societies Act. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has clearly misled the public in their publication as they were well aware of the suit and judgment was delivered on the 22nd day of March, 2024 and not the 4th day of September, 2024 and they are not within time to appeal the said judgment. There is also no pending appeal on the judgement. SIGNED Arc. Dr. Oyinmiebi Bribena CEO BARAZA MULTIPURPOSE CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD. CEO BLISS MULTINATIONAL PERFECTION LTD

Baraza: Court threatens to commit EFCC Chairman to prison A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has threatened to commit the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede, to prison over contempt of court. The court, in a "Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Court Order" addressed to Olukoyede, noted that "unless you obey the direction contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison." This notice comes after the EFCC Port Harcourt Zonal Office allegedly engaged an estate valuer to value and rent out properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Arch. Oyinmiebi Bribena, The CEO of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited. It will be recalled that Justice Isa H. Dashen, in his judgment in suit number FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022, had "perpetually restrained" the EFCC from seizing properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Bribena, which are clearly not proceeds of crime. Justice Dashen also declared the seizure and sealing of properties belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Bribena by the EFCC as unlawful. The court further described as unlawful the instructions given to Bribena's bankers by the EFCC to place a post-no-debt lien or freeze his accounts. He warned members of the cooperative to be wary of fraudsters who use his name or that of the cooperative to collect money, stressing that no member is expected to pay any money before payment is made. Another member, Darlington Ebiwari, who expressed delight in the reconciliation exercise, urged the organization to "look for more innovative ways to resolve the challenges."

Baraza CEO pleads for understanding, states solutions to organization's challenges The Chief Executive Officer of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Limited, Pastor Miebi Bribena, has called for understanding from members of the organization to enable it to commence payment. Bribena, who made this known in a live interview monitored by our reporter, revealed that a reconciliation committee had been set up, and more than one thousand members have already been part of the process since last year. "This process will continue from Friday 17th May, 2024 and it shall be held once every two weeks at Tamara Hall, Otiotio Junction Yenagoa," he said. He warned members of Baraza to be wary of fraudsters who use his name or that of the cooperative to collect money. According to him, no member is expected to pay any money before payment is made. Bribena stated that, as promised, some assets shall be liquidated to commence initial payment even before he returns to Nigeria. While soliciting the understanding of members to allow him return to Nigeria, he said “I will get one or two contracts, then I'll use the money realized from the contracts to make payment so we can all go on with our lives.” He continued: "I'm very happy that for the past few days, some members who invested huge sums and who were aggrieved are calling me to know how we are going to solve this problem." The Baraza boss, while admonishing members who have sued the cooperative to have a rethink, revealed that with over a hundred court cases against himself and the organization, "it will be so hard." He stated that he will soon commence the sale of some of his assets in a bid to raise money for initial payment. Bribena also commiserated with families of individuals who have lost their lives because of the issues bedevilling the cooperative, noting that payment will be made to their next of kin once it commences. The clergyman disclosed how a notable political figure in Bayelsa State frustrated his efforts when he applied for a loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make payment "because of unfounded rumours that he was planning to contest the 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa." While refuting the allegation that he's persecuting Becky Minaj and seizing properties because they are no longer in a relationship, he noted that "first of all, are you aware Feboke was arrested? Jude was arrested with other persons who were arrested on fraud and properties taken from them? "Are you aware that Pastor Orji was arrested and he paid back some money back to Baraza? Are you aware some ICT boys, receipt writers and POS operators in Baraza were arrested?" "All these were males, nobody shouted. Or were they arrested because I was a homosexual sleeping with Feboke and he later fell out of a relationship with me? So because a girl is involved now, we take it to relationship? "When I come to business, there is no sentiment. My own son, seventeen years old, was invited by DSS and interrogated under supervision because he was a minor but he was interrogated. "My own younger brother, Ebikela Bribena was interrogated, my cousin Emomotimi Bribena was interrogated, nobody made noise. Every Baraza property shall be recovered no matter the propaganda or blackmail." Revealing more details about what transpired, he stated that "Becky went to court and said she doesn't know of any furniture in her father's house. She went to court and said she bought the generator herself and paid the supplier in bitcoin and dollars. "They asked her who supplied you and she called the same supplier that Baraza uses and the supplier said Baraza paid him, see the account statement. "Somebody who paid twenty million to Baraza and in three months got a forty million car. These are not my properties, so why bring propaganda about relationships? Anybody's property belonging to Baraza will be taken back. "If my own son can be interrogated anybody else will be interrogated without fear or favour,” he said.

...orders EFCC to return seized properties. Justice Isa H. Dashen of a Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa has declared that the publication of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Guardian Newspaper, published on June 8, 2022, naming Pastor Oyinmiebi Bribena and his wife, Pastor Beatrice Bribena, as wanted without a valid court order, is unjustified, unlawful, and unconstitutional. The judge made this declaration while ruling on a matter delineated FHC/YNG/CS/132/2022, which was filed on June 10, 2022, seeking the enforcement of the fundamental human rights of Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Bribena against the EFCC and Wilson Umujaren. The court entered judgment in favor of Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Bribena and resolved the sole issue against the EFCC and Wilson Umujaren. Additionally, the court declared that the EFCC's Guardian Newspaper Publication of June 8, 2022, on page 36, declaring the duo wanted without a valid court order, constitutes a breach of their fundamental rights to personal liberty, freedom of movement, right to private and family life, and dignity of the human person, as guaranteed by Sections 34(1), 35(1), 37, and 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As amended), and Articles 4, 5, 6, and 12(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, Cap A9, Laws of the Federation, 2004. Justice Dashen further ordered the EFCC to offer a public apology to Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Bribena for the unlawful and unconstitutional Guardian Newspaper Publication declaring them wanted without a valid court order. The court also restrained the EFCC from inviting, harassing, arresting, and detaining Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Bribena, pending the determination of Suit FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022 between Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and another vs. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Furthermore, Justice Dashen awarded the sum of N10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira) as exemplary damages against the EFCC and Wilson Umujaren for the unlawful infringement of the fundamental rights of Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Bribena and the psychological trauma and humiliation they suffered as a result of the unlawful and unconstitutional Guardian Newspaper Publication. In a related case delineated FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022 between Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Oyinmiebi Bribena vs. the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Justice Dashen granted several declarations in favor of the applicants against the EFCC. The court declared that by virtue of the provisions of Sections 49 and 50 of the Nigeria Co-operative Societies Act, 1993, Cap C.35, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006, members of Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society cannot report any dispute arising from transactions between themselves and the Co-operative Society, to any security agency or resort to any court of law without first reporting to the Registrar/Director of Bureau of Co-operative Societies, Bayelsa State. It also declared that by the interpretation of the provisions of Sections 49 and 50 of the Nigeria Co-operative Societies Act, 1993, Cap C.35, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004; and Section 51 of the Co-operative Societies Law of Bayelsa State Cap, C11, 2006, the defendant cannot interfere in any dispute between members of Baraza Multipurpose Society arising from the registered business objects of the co- operative society. Further, the court declared that by the provisions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004, the EFCC is not empowered to wade into disputes borne out of civil transactions arising from the registered business objects of the cooperative society and that by the provisions of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004, the EFCC cannot seize properties belonging to the plaintiffs which are clearly not proceeds to crime. Justice Dashen in addition gave a declaration that the seizure and sealing of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited's property situated at No. 1 Otiotio Road, Yenezue-Gene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa Bayelsa State (known as Bliss Emporium) not being proceeds of any crime, by the EFCC is wrong, unlawful and ought to be returned. He also declared that the seizure and sealing of the jointly owned property of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Οyinmiebi Bribena, situate at No. 57, Green Villa Road, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, not being proceeds of any crime, by the EFCC is wrongful, unlawful, and ought to be returned. Also, he declared that the seizure and sealing of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Miebi Bribena's jointly owned property situate at No. 57, Green Villa Road, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, not being proceeds of any crime, by the Defendant, is wrongful, unlawful and ought to be returned. The court in addition declared that the EFCC's instructions to Miebi Bribena's bankers to place a Post-No-Debt/lien or freeze on his bank accounts on account of purported criminal investigation of fraud on the occasion of disputes arising from ciivil transactions between members of a co-operative society to wit, Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society, without recourse to the registrar or director of Bureau of Co-operative Societies, Bayelsa State, is wrongful, unlawful and ought to be unfrozen. The court subsequently gave an order of perpetual injunction directing and compelling the EFCC to refrain from inviting, threatening to arrest, threatening to detain, actual arrest, detention and harassment of the Miebi Bribena, over disputes arising from transactions of Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society. It also ordered EFCC to immediately return the seized property belonging to Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited, situated at NO. 1, Otiotoio Road, Yene-Gene, Yenagoa Baylesa State (Known as Bliss Emporium) as the described property was not gotten from proceeds of any crime and also immediately return the seized property jointly belonging to Οyinmiebi Biribena, situate at No. 57 Green Villa Road, Biogbolo, Yenagoa Bayelsa State. The court also ordered EFCC to immediately withdraw any instruction(s) directing Οyinmiebi Biribena's bankers to place a Post-No-Debt or lien or freezing of his bank accounts as well as an order of Perpetual Injunction restraining the EFCC from inviting, harassing, arresting, detaining, threatening to arrest or detaining the Plaintiff's as a result of the civil dispute between Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited and her members, or on matters arising from the registered business objects of the co-operative society. The court entered judgment in favor of Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Biribena and resolved the sole issue against the EFCC and Wilson Umujaren. Justice Dashen further ordered the EFCC to offer a public apology to Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Biribena for the unlawful and unconstitutional Guardian Newspaper Publication declaring them wanted without a valid court order. The court also restrained the EFCC from inviting, harassing, arresting, and detaining Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Biribena, pending the determination of Suit FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022 between Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and another vs. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Furthermore, Justice Dashen awarded the sum of N10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira) as exemplary damages against the EFCC and Wilson Umujaren for the unlawful infringement of the fundamental rights of Oyinmiebi and Beatrice Biribena and the psychological trauma and humiliation they suffered as a result of the unlawful and unconstitutional Guardian Newspaper Publication. In a related case delineated FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022 between Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Oyinmiebi Biribena vs. the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Justice Dashen granted several declarations in favor of the applicants against the EFCC. He also declared that the seizure and sealing of the jointly owned property of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Οyinmiebi Biribena, situate at No. 57, Green Villa Road, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, not being proceeds of any crime, by the EFCC is wrongful, unlawful, and ought to be returned. Also, he declared that the seizure and sealing of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Οyinmiebi Biribena's jointly owned property situate at No. 57, Green Villa Road, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, not being proceeds of any crime, by the Defendant, is wrongful, unlawful and ought to be returned. The court in addition declared that the EFCC's instructions to Οyinmiebi Biribena's bankers to place a Post-No-Debt/lien or freeze on his bank accounts on account of purported criminal investigation of fraud on the occasion of disputes arising from ciivil transactions between members of a co-operative society to wit, Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society, without recourse to the registrar or director of Bureau of Co-operative Societies, Bayelsa State, is wrongful, unlawful and ought to be unfrozen. The court subsequently gave an order of perpetual injunction directing and compelling the EFCC to refrain from inviting, threatening to arrest, threatening to detain, actual arrest, detention and harassment of the Οyinmiebi Biribena, over disputes arising from transactions of Baraza Multipurpose Co-operative Society. However, instead of the the one hundred Million Naira requested, the court granted the sum of ten million naira only against the EFCC in favour of the plaintiffs as exemplary damages, for the unlawful seizure/attachment of the properties belonging to the duo. Cybercrime, also known as Yahoo Yahoo in the Nigerian local parlance, is now a cancer that has eaten deep into our society. It has relegated hard work to the background and left youths who are mostly involved in this vice without morals. What was once a taboo is now trendy. Many commentators believe poverty, and the declining standard of parenting should be blamed for the menace. The get-rich-quick syndrome amongst youths involved in Yahoo Yahoo has also metamorphosed into widespread ritual killings. Ritual killing was a rarity before now. But today, it has become a daily occurrence. More pathetic is the fact that kids as young as 13, 14, and 15 years have started to get involved. Here are five reasons why young people go into cybercrime/ritual killing: 1. Unemployment When apprehended, many cybercriminals/ritual killers, usually say they ventured into the act because of unemployment. According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in 2021, unemployment in Nigeria stood at about 32.5%. But, be that as it may, the issue of unemployment is for me a global phenomenon and not enough reason to venture into such an obnoxious act. 2. Social media The advantages of social media are enormous. From job creation to the advancement of good governance, to improvement of the banking and financial sectors, amongst others, it has added value to mankind. Despite these many advantages, social media has also contributed to cybercrime/ritual killings. Unscrupulous individuals use it to flaunt false and or unclean wealth, thereby negatively influencing unsuspecting individuals. Ritualists use social media to look for victims especially young women. For example, some days ago social media was awash with a story of some teenagers who beheaded a 17-year-old girl for money ritual. When caught, they confessed that they got guidelines on how to perform the ritual through Facebook. 3. Material nature of some women Many guys have died untimely while trying to please their lovers. They have been pressured into cybercrime/ritual killing, just to satisfy the materialistic cravings of their lovers. Today, many women don't care to enquire about the kind of job their husbands, fiances, or boyfriends are doing to make ends meet. All they care about is that he gives them money and takes care of their needs. This is not to say all women are like that. No! The issue is that some of them, directly and indirectly, push some young guys into all sorts of criminal activities to meet their endless financial demands. 4. Bad parenting The level of parenting today according to several public commentators has reached an abysmally low level. Disciplining a child who errs is now seen as abuse. Parents even fight teachers who discipline their children in school. When children are raised without morals and discipline, they often cannot differentiate wrong from right. They are ready to go the extra mile just to make money because of the lack of morals. 5. Religious leaders not doing enough Many religious leaders today do not care about preaching the fear of God to their congregation. They are only concerned about the biggest donors and tithers. Wealthy members are given special recognition and awards without due diligence to ascertain the source of their wealth. There are cases of ritualists being ordained as pastors, imams, elders, etc because they are wealthy. Ex-rector accuses Bayelsa commissioner of visiting wife at odd hours, renting apartment for her ...she is just a staff in the ministry, commissioner debunks allegation Yenagoa—The social media space in Bayelsa went agog some days ago when one Imomoemi Otutu posted a story accusing the Commissioner of Education in the state of having an affair with his confidential secretary, who happens to be the wife of a former Rector of the state-owned International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (IITH), Yenagoa. But in a disclaimer signed by Onisoman Kos-Ikah, his media assistant, Hon. Gentle Emelah debunked the story stating that he is being blackmailed. “Let it be known that the said man alleged to be crying out has at several times expressed sadness and frustration that his inability to take financial responsibility of his home following his loss of job, which has affected his state of mind, fractured the once cordial and peaceful relationship with his wife and made her disrespectful. “For the avoidance of doubt, the Commissioner does not have any amorous relationship with the said man's wife other than that she is a staff in his Ministry. "The Commissioner considers this an unnecessary distraction and insists the said Man would do himself more good if he is able to find ways to fix his livelihood and manage his family rather than mischievously drag Dr Gentle Emelah into his heartbreak," the disclaimer reads in part. In an exclusive interview with Mangrovepen.ng, Dr. Samuel Timi Johnson, narrated to our reporter that he began having issues with his wife, Mrs. Tombra Eyeoyibo Johnson, after she was transferred to the office of the commissioner to work as his secretary. “My marriage began to deteriorate when my wife was transferred to work in the office of the commissioner as his secretary. “He calls my wife at odd hours. There was a time when he called her and I confronted her because I didn't like the kind of words she was using over the phone. “It got to a time when the disrespect was too much from my wife, we just greet and that's all. For months, we don't relate like husband and wife. “When she's in the kitchen, toilet, or bathroom, she goes with her phone because she is expecting the boss to call her,” he said. Johnson, a former Rector of the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (IITH), Yenagoa, accused the commissioner of visiting his wife at odd hours. He alleged that “it got to a stage that Gentle Emelah started coming to our house sometimes as early as 6:15 am to give her money. “Sometimes she will just tie rapper to go and meet him outside. “She goes to work by 7:30 am and comes home by 6:40 pm from Monday to Friday. She rarely comes home early. We were really having serious issues at home because of her job. The former rector further revealed that upon his return from a journey, he found out that his “wife had packed all her things and left the house unannounced on the 30th of October, 2021. “I later found out that the commissioner had paid a one-bedroom apartment for her.” He debunked claims by the commissioner that the bane of his marital problem was because of his inability to live up to his financial responsibility as a husband. According to him, “That is a damn lie! Or is that the reason he was coming to my house by 6:00 am? Is he the one footing my bills?” Johnson dismissed claims of lobbying the commissioner for reappointment as rector of IITH, stating that, the commissioner refused to intervene in his marriage after he was approached by both families. “The commissioner cannot reappoint me, he's not the governor. He doesn't have a say. “Our both families have tried to settle this issue. The commissioner was even approached to help talk to her to come back home, but he said he can't talk to her because it is a family issue and he doesn't want to be part of it. “He wants my wife to be around, so he can be sleeping around with her. “He is deceiving her that he is going to the House of Representatives and is going to make her his secretary,” Johnson alleged. He pleaded with Governor Douye Diri to wade into the matter. Mangrovepen.ng cannot independently confirm the authenticity of the documents and other claims made in this report. |
DSS Arrest: I Will Not Back Down From My Agitation—Bodmas Kemepadei ...says his release was a miracle Prince Bodmas Kemepadei, popular blogger and Special Assistant on Media to Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has revealed the reasons behind his purported arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS). In an interview with mangrovepen.ng via phone call, the Ijaw rights activist said: "On Tuesday, at about 2pm, I received a call from a DSS official. He told me he wants to see me in his office, so I rushed down. "When I got to the office, he said he called me based on a directive from Abuja to arrest and send me down to Abuja with immediate effect." "But when he got the directive, he had to insist that there are some issues that can be managed because of the worsening security situation, in order not to promote insecurity in the nation. "I asked him what was the problem, and he said it was not his place to brief me, but that it has to do with a video I made concerning the worsening security situation a few weeks ago, even before the IYC protest." Bodmas alleged that he was accused of "treason and felony" by the DSS, explaining that he was interrogated by top officials of the Service who enquired to know his role in the recent protest embarked upon by the IYC. According to him, the operatives also accused him of being sponsored by the governor to go ahead with the protest. "I told the DSS not to link the state governor, that I am an Ijaw man. I have been speaking for the Ijaw people even before I was appointed and I will not back down. "I was then taken to another very senior DSS official who spoke to me like a father and asked if I am aware of the security situation in different parts of the country. I told him my statements were not to cause any crisis but to correct the security situation in the country. "I stressed that I am an Ijaw man, and at this point, when things are going from bad to worse, am not expected to keep quiet. "He said based on advice and mediations that he wants to handle the matter calmly and warmly, so he later asked me to go home." Bodmas said he received similar call from the same guy on Wednesday, inviting him to the office, but he declined the invitation, as he feared for his safety. He described his release as a "miracle" upon reading the breaking news of his purported arrest that same Wednesday. While admonishing Nigerians to be security conscious, Bodmas vowed not to back down on his agitation and advocacy for a better and more secured Nigeria as well as the constitution of a substantive board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). "Over 800 people have been killed in Southern Kaduna and no arrest has been made. Not even El- Rufai, the Herod, can even release a statement condemning the act. The short Herod could not even make a statement. A man cried to me about two weeks ago. He was weeping in my office. He said he has no place to live. I asked why. He said where they were living in Kaduna was burnt. He said his seven children and pregant wife were killed. He said he ran for his dear life. As it is right now, he has become a widower, no children, no wife. Nobody owns this country. We all own the country and no one can try to claim superiority over the other. We all own the country. We are keeping quiet does not mean we are powerless. We can do something. We know something. We can fight. Enough is enough. Nobody owns this country. We all own this country. This country belongs to all of us. If the country does not belong to all of us again, let the country be divided and let this one go to the other side while the other go to the other side" - Pastor.
