Babalawo

Description
Deep in the dense rain forests of Yoruba land, western Nigeria lays the secretive and enchanted village of Oyato (Igbo t’oyato). Inhabitants of this powerful settlement are rich in potent mystical powers. However, none rival the abilities of the BABALAWO….the most powerful magician for miles around. Oyato was attacked in his absence….homes were destroyed, people captured and turned to evil blood drinking creatures called MUJE-MUJE by an evil witch doctor from another village called OGIGI. He has also taken the beautiful princess- BISI captive deep into the evil forest.
BABALAWO journeys into the evil forest to free the captive souls and bring the princess back home. The fate of Oyato lies in your hands (literally)

Thursday, the Assam criminal investigation department registered a suo motu case against the site for posting the defamatory article. Assam DGP Jayanto Narayan Choudhury has ordered a probe in Guwahati after the write-up was posted on Facebook.

The state CID has also moved the Centre's mandated agency against cybercrimes, the India Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), for help.

Devraj Upadhyay, the senior superintendent of police said: “We have taken up a suo moto case. It is a sensitive issue and we will take up the matter with the matter with the website.”

The probe will be handled by the CID’s cyber crime cell.

According to Upadhya, preliminary investigations reveal that “the crime originated in Uganda.” He said they don’t know where the crime originated and that it takes time to pinpoint the exact place of origin of such crimes.

The Assam police have “written mails to the administrator of a Ugandan website, which has circulated the link to the defamatory article. We have sought their cooperation in our investigation," added Upadhya.

The CID believes that the cybercrime could be an act of defamation as well as conspiracy against Assam and the country. The CID has filed the case under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act.

Assam, INDIA — Men in India are already beginning to celebrate as the annual Assam Rape Festival is just days away. Every non-married girl age 7-16 will have the chance to flee to safety or get raped.

Madhuban Ahluwalia who heads up the annual festival told reporters why the event is so important. “This is a long time tradition in Assam dating back thousands of years,” says Ahluwalia. “We rape the evil demons out of the girls, otherwise they will cheat on us and we will be forced to kill them. So it is necessary for everyone.”

The Assam Festival began in 43 BC when Baalkrishan Tamil Nadu raped everyone in his village of Doomdooma. Baalkrishan Tamil Nadu is remembered every year at this event, in fact the trophy given to the man with the most rapes is called “The Baalkrishan”.

24-year-old Harikrishna Majumdar told reporters that he has been training all year for this event. “I’m going to get the most rapes this year. I’ve been practicing all year. I rape my sister and her friends every day. I will be rape superstar number one! I will get the Baalkrishan prize this year for sure!”

12-year-old Jaitashri Majumdar told reporters she almost made it through last year’s festival without getting raped. “I came so close to not getting raped. I almost got to the ‘rape-free-zone’ at the edge of town, but at the last minute 9 men jumped on me and raped me. Luckily I am just recovering now so I can participate in this year’s events, otherwise I would be put to death by stoning.”

34-year-old Brian Barnett from Toronto who is visiting Assam on business told reporters he will be missing the festivities this year. “My company did not tell me anything about a rape festival happening while I was here. Are you serious, a rape festival? I’m getting the f*ck out of this backwards country tonight.”

India is second in reported rapes in the world only behind the United States, though critics are quick to point out that is only because most rapes in India go unreported. For more information about the festival or if you would like to participate, please call the 24-hour India Rape Festival hotline at (785) 273-0325.

PoliticsGoogle Unveils The 100K Naija Project To Mark Nigeria’s Centenary Anniversary by docjuli(op): 2:16pm On Nov 05, 2013
Google will help Nigeria mark its centenary anniversary through an initiative called 100k Naija. The initiative involves documenting the history of Nigeria in the last 1oo years through iconic pictures.

The initiative begun on October 25th with a Photo Day event attended by a group of professional photographers from Lagos Photo Walk. The photographers were encouraged by Google to make use of the power of the web to tell Nigeria’s story through photography.

Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, said that the 100k Naija project will help document Nigeria’s history as well as capture memorable and characterful moments about Nigerian themes such as Governance, Lifestyle, Fashion, Nostalgia, Places of Interest, History, Only in Naija Moments, and more.

He added that the centenary photographs have to be one hundred percent Nigerian in order to pass qualifications for the project.

“Our target is to get 100,000 iconic pictures of Nigeria’s history on a specially dedicated 100K Naija Google+ page at the end of the project,” he stated.

Kola-Ogunlade said that the stories should be ranging from history and politics to arts and culture, it could also include important personalities to everyday life.

Lanre Aina, from Google’s Business Development team, said that with the evolution of the web, Google products have created opportunities for photographers to increase awareness about their work locally and internationally.

“For instance, you can edit photos on Google+ and influence your work visibility on Google search,” he explained.

All photos for the project are to be shared using the #100k Naija hashtag, with a brief description on the dedicated 100k Naija Google+ page.

PoliticsCommission On Standing Instrcution With Gtbank by docjuli(op): 8:58am On Oct 30, 2013
Dear Reader,
If you have a standing instruction with GTBank to debit your account and credit other banks automatically you may have to reconsider it. This morning, I noticed the commission charged for this is 300, imagine having more than 10 transactions that's N3,000 minus VAT on these charges.
What is the commission for other bank as regards standing instructions apart from GTBank.
At least I should have expected a mail from them about this.
It is really sad when you open an account with a bank without having a leaflet stating all their charges apart from Standard Chartered that tries.
It means that I may have to remove all these standing instructions and use my token.
Best regards.

PoliticsGlo Launches Vigicom To Help Nigeria Vigilante Groups Call For Free In Distress by docjuli(op): 5:02pm On Oct 29, 2013
Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), body overseeing groups in charge of local policing in the country, has received a communication package from Globacom that will see its members freely communicate with each other while on duty across the country.

Dubbed Vigicom, the package will also allow the group members to communicate with their families freely especially in distress.

According to Alhaji Ali Sokoto, Commander General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), the Vigicom will help them effectively police remote areas in the country and make intelligence gathering efficient.

Vigicom sends and receive alerts and users can call even without airtime and will be used by the members to ensure effective communication for the country’s security. However, the vigilante members will be required to pay N1,000 as monthly rental fee. Then them and their families will receive special lines for free.

According to a report by NewsDiaryOnline,”Security was a driving issue in the last Presidential campaign following bomb blast by Niger Delta militants and attacks of police by members of the extremist Islamic group, Boko Haram in the northern part of the country.”

The report adds that President Jonathan campaigned very hard to convince Nigerians that his government was meeting those security challenges. However, riots followed immediately after his election in the North. Everyday, the Boko Haram group kills several civilians and soldiers.

The AFP is reporting that thirty-five bodies in military uniform have been brought to a morgue in Nigeria’s restive northeast after a coordinated assault by Boko Haram targeting the security forces late Thursday in the Yobe state capital of Damaturu.

Vigicom will therefore help the community police groups to work with other security stakeholders curb crime.

Science/TechnologyNigeria’s Azumazu.com Wants To Take On OLX Globally by docjuli(op): 12:45pm On Oct 23, 2013
Story by our new intern Kingsley Silas Chijioke:

Thanks to technology and specifically ecommerce, buying of goods is no an issue as one can buy whatsover he or she wishes from anywhere in the world at any point in time. This really makes life easier. Location is never an issue when you see a product you want to buy, all you need is have the money and the necessary means of payment.

In a situation where you do not want to buy any product but actually do want to sell what then do you do? This is where Azumazu (www.azumazu.com) comes in!

Azumazu is an online marketplace for manufacturers, producers, suppliers, designers, service providers, retailers, sellers and buyers. It provides a common platform for sellers and buyers to meet and exchange goods and services.

According to the company overview on the company’s website, Azuamazu is a subsidiary of Cosmichub Africa, a young, vision-driven IT business based in Lagos Nigeria with partners in East and Southern Africa with clientele across various countries around the globe.

Some of its categories include; electronics, food and beverages, sporting goods as well as some which surprised me; real estate, jobs and education.

One remarkable thing about Azumazu is the choice given to its users to use their country’s currency, though the default currency is Dollar ($). This feature relieves the users the stress of having to do any currency conversion.

I think a lot more still has to be done by those behind this startup if they are to hit the wave in the ecommerce ecosystem and attract investors.

PoliticsNew Westagate Mall Video Shows Kenyan Troops Looting by docjuli(op): 11:29am On Oct 21, 2013
CCTV Footage (http://www.ntv.co.ke/news2/topheadlines/cct-footage-shows-kdf-soldiers-ransacking-shops-at-the-westgate/)

New CCTV footage from Nairobi’s Westgate mall shows Kenyan soldiers with “shopping bags, raising questions on the integrity of the forces who were supposedly on a rescue mission after the mall had been taken over by Al-Shabaab terrorists September 21.

The footage comes days after the Kenyan troops were declared innocent of any lootings by the country’s parliament and that some shop owners were just trying to get compensation from their insurers.

According to the footage as seen by The Nation: “scores of soldiers rummaging through the Nakumatt Supermarket and leaving with white polythene bags whose contents cannot be seen.”

Reportedly showing day two of the siege when the army only had access to the mall, the footage shows “uniformed soldiers putting their guns down in order to have both hands free to ransack shops” which the owners claim had locked before the stampede.
