GamingNigeria’s Gamsole.com Launches New Game For Windows Phone | Hits Over 1 Million by docjuli(op):
Nigeria’s gaming startup, Gamsole (http://gamsole.com/games/) has said it has passed one million downloads on the windows phone store, making it a titan of its own in an industry that is steadily hitting up in Nigeria and continent-wide.

Olaniran Elijah Abiola, Gamesole’s founder told TechMoran that their games have been downloaded so much mainly because they are fun to play and pass time.

Abiola also added that Gamesole has a huge market outside Africa where they are based.

“We got a lots of downloads from places like China,Brazil e.t.c. Though the games were created in Africa, the market is global. 10 percent of our downloads came from China, about 20 percent from Brazil and 12 percent from India. In general we got more downloads from emerging markets. We get most Africa downloads from South Africa.”

Gamsole popularly known for games such as Road Blazer, Kazoo, Mosquito Crasher and Oyo Empire launched a couple of new games this month, Funbits, which is a mobile platform that contains Gamsole’s best games with some more entertaining features.

“Even though it was launched just 2 weeks ago on the Windows Phone Store with both a free version and a premium version for people who don’t want advertisements, Funbits has been enjoying great reviews from users around the world.”

Gamsole in January closed a partnership deal with a global gaming publisher based in Tokyo in a move to up its aim of telling the day-to-day African stories in a unique, fun-filled way.

So, how do you monitor them (do you run a lie-test)?

Do you go extra mile to visit them (subscribers) in their homes/Churches/work place.

"For security reasons, your safety and the integrity of our website, we manually check every profile to approve it (or not!)." How do you do that?

No vex, just curious (btw, I am happily married with a beautiful daughter and a handsome son all thanks to my wife).

Technology MarketGoogle In Plans To Offer Tracking Services For Stolen Android Phone by docjuli(op): 2:49pm On Aug 05, 2013
Google has made it official that it is working on a new website that will allow users to locate their lost Android Smartphone.

They intend to make the Android Device Manager (ADM) accessible late this month. The ADM will either track a mobile phone’s location on a mapping service or cause the phone to ring loudly if you lost it in your own home.

The service will be available on devices running Android 2.2 or above and in order to use it, users also will need to be signed into their Google Account.

There will also be an Android app to allow users to easily find and manage their devices including the ability to remotely wipe handset data if the phone is stolen.

Apple and Windows Phone based devices have had a similar “location” facility for lost and stolen phones, and that has often lead to news articles about thieves being arrested after the iPhone was tracked to their home.

Science/TechnologySouth Africa Has Africa’s Cheapest Postpaid Broadband Packages by docjuli(op): 4:31pm On Aug 01, 2013
A study conducted by Research ICT Africa (RIA) indicates that South Africa is among the countries with the cheapest postpaid broadband packages in Africa compared to twelve other African nations.

South Africa has the cheapest deal of 1GB postpaid mobile broadband basket at an average price of USD 9.81 per month.

Second place was taken by East Africa’s Tanzania and Kenya gets third position. The countries offer 1GB postpaid broadband data packages at USD 10.17 and USD 10.81 respectively. West African countries scope fourth position in the list, having Ghana offering 1GB at USD 10.92

RIA executive director, Alison Gillwald, said that they conducted their study by analyzing postpaid, prepaid and fixed data packages telecom firms among the selected African countries. The executive director also added that in terms of studying these African countries’ postpaid data markets, the company took 24 month broadband contracts into consideration; as well as the likes of installation fees, modem or router costs, and the cost of a land-line are all included in the study.

The report said that due to a relatively high number of postpaid customers (in South Africa) compared to other African countries, competitive forces in this market segment have pushed mobile operators (in South Africa) to reduce postpaid broadband prices.

It further stated that it was not in the 1GB postpaid broadband range that South Africa has competitive prices on the continent but also in the 5GB basket SA has the second cheapest offering after Nigeria. SA charges USD 21.80 monthly.

Tanzania takes number three in this broadband package range as it offers USD 28.94 monthly fee for a 5GB, while Ghana offers USD 30.97 for the same package monthly.

However, South Africa fails to compare well in the prepaid broadband space, as the study reveals that the country is ranked fourth in the 1GB prepaid broadband sub-index when it comes to the cheapest packages in this range among 12 African nations.

In South Africa a 1GB mobile prepaid option costs up to USD11.32 monthly whereas in Ghana the same package costs USD 3.72.

The report says that South Africa stands at number two rates in 5GB prepaid as they offer a monthly fee of USD 22.47 more than Tanzania who holds second position charge only USD 13.30 says RIA.

The research group adds that South African mobile operators are moving to grow their high data and bandwidth usage markets, which is resulting in prices being competitive especially in the 5GB range.

South Africa, however, holds the sixth position in fixed-line ADSL broadband pricing as they charge USD 42.15 monthly for 1GB.

Science/TechnologyNew Applicant Wants SA Pay-tv Shake-up by docjuli(op): 3:13pm On Jul 26, 2013
Competition in the pay-TV market is set to continue, as Close-T Broadcast Network Holdings, and its branded pay-TV platform, CloseTV prepares for the final stages of its application for a new Subscription Broadcast license from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

Close-T Broadcast Network Holdings, and its branded pay-TV platform, CloseTV, is ready to engage ICASA for a new Subscription Broadcast License. (Image source: pay-TV via Shutterstock.com)

According to Mia Groenewald, director of Close-T Broadcast Network Holdings, “We have approached the growing need for choice in the payTV market from the consumers’ perspective and developed niche audience specific bundles that won’t be made up of rehashed bouquets of older or lower quality programming, but rather high quality international and local programming.”

The company’s intention is to allow consumers to custom build their viewing preferences, by paying only for the bouquets that are of interest to them, as opposed to paying a monthly subscription for a premier service and then only watching 20% of the total bouquet. Should something of interest fall outside of the bouquets that form the basis of the subscription, a ‘Pay-per-view’ demand based service will also feature as one of the service offerings.

As part of its launch phase, CloseTV will offer the country’s first pay-TV bouquet for the dynamic and thriving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA) community and has set up exclusive partnerships with global content providers such as OutTV group, LOGO TV and OUT in African Film Festival.

“Our research shows that there are approximately six million LGBTQIA lifestyle consumers in South Africa, with virtually no television based programming,” adds Groenewald.

To complement non-LGBTQIA interests, the bouquet will include independent and art house movies; cinema nouveau, foreign language films, cultural programming, travel and fashion events.

CloseTV has already identified other niche audience groups that will form a critical part of its growth and service extension strategies.

Concludes, Groenewald “We believe the future of cost effective and audience tailored television viewing, without sacrificing quality and fresh programming, starts with CloseTV”.

Close-T Broadcast Network Holdings (Pty) Ltd will be presenting at the ICASA Subscription Broadcast hearing on Thursday, 25 July 2013 at 13:00.

ProgrammingNigeria: New Trade App To Support Imports And Exports by docjuli(op): 3:23pm On Jul 24, 2013
The Customs Service of Nigeria has unveiled an android and windows App which is meant to digitize the import and export sector.

The Nigeria Trade Hub (NTH) app was initiated and developed by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) partnering with West Blue Nigeria. This app was to assist in reducing time and cost of doing trade and business in the country.

NTH provides information about all the Nigerian Regulatory Agencies, processing times, documents, contact details, processes as well as fees that an Importer or Exporter will need to liaise with in order to obtain the obligatory import permits and certificates that required ensuring fulfillment.

The app, in addition, has a searchable Document Library providing all the necessary documents that should be downloaded and are relevant to trade in Nigeria, from Regulatory Documents to Official Publications, Legal Information and Customs Procedures.

The Nigerian Trade Hub app tools include the HS Code Classification Tool; this is a sensitive tool that assists the Importer with the correct classification of their products for both import and export.

Once the trader has obtained the correct HS Code for an importation product, the tool will therefore provide the necessary regulatory information about the product including Regulating Agencies, Control Measures, Prohibition Status, ETLS status depending on the Country of Origin, Document Requirements, Related Duties and Fees and Processing times.

As for export products, the exporter on selection of the Country of Export is presented with the Exportation Country’s Market Access information which includes the relevant HS Code and the rates of duty it will attract upon entry.

Other useful tools include a Duty and Fees Calculator, CPC Code Directory and a Currency Converter.

ProgrammingRocket Internet’s Easy Taxi Launches In Nigeria After Raising $10 Million by docjuli(op): 1:39pm On Jul 24, 2013
After receiving an additional funding of USD 10 million from Rocket Internet and the African Internet Holding Latin America’s Easy Taxi has today launched in Lagos, Nigeria.

Easy Taxi starts in Lagos, Nigeria, a city with 20 million inhabitants and huge potential with millions using internet and mobile phones then launch in more African countries in the upcoming weeks and Middle East.

Easy Taxi was founded in Brazil in 2011 and is now one of the world’s largest mobile Taxi apps. The company is active in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, South Korea and Venezuela.

Just one month ago, Easy Taxi obtained 15 USD million from the Latin America Internet Holding to up its operations.

According to Dennis Wang, Head of International Expansion of Easy Taxi, “In 2011, Easy Taxi started in Brazil to connect taxi drivers and passengers in the best possible way. By now, the app has over 1,500,000 downloads and more than 45,000 taxi drivers in the network. We want to bring this success to other attractive markets and we see high potential in many Asian and African countries.”

Sacha Poignonnec, co-CEO of the African Internet Holding said: “The Easy Taxi app is convincing in every single aspect: it is fast, safe and working in a very smooth way. It fulfills all the needs for the African market. We see an amazing opportunity and we will expand fast to all the markets where we are present today with the startups of Africa Internet Holding.”

Easy Taxi app is available for iOS, Android and the new BlackBerry devices and helps users confirm their pickup point and order their cab with the press of a button. ProgrammingKenyan Launches World’s First GUI Based Software Development Kit by docjuli(op): 1:55pm On Jul 23, 2013
A Kenyan software developer has launched the world’s first graphical interface based software development kit enabling one to develop applications or softwares without writing program code.

George King’ori, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
Bachelor of Science (BSc), Pure Mathematics and Computer Science graduate told TechMoran, “ Liquid Systems Technology is a software development technology that enables one to easily create any form of business management software using graphical and not programming languages.”

King’ori added that no programming or data base skills are needed to develop liquid software as it uses a Graphical Interface based developer environment.”

According to him, the technology is a combination of several platforms; (developer, cloud, user platforms) that enable one to develop ,deploy and support clients on this network.

He said that Liquid technology simulates a computer hardware environment to create and modify software at runtime using modifiable and reusable graphical resources and algorithm making software development an instant and time saving endeavor.

Tired with software development technologies that took months to deliver, King’ori said he has worked on Liquid system technology for four years and finally launched it ten days ago.

“Most clients don’t understand software modifications and several of them become negative when a project takes months to implement. The Liquid SDK will help developers serve their clients quickly and appropriately,” he said.

Business software is also costly and takes time to develop, King’ori therefore wanted something affordable and easier to use and modify by both developers and clients.

“We want to make sure developers can quickly develop business management software in less than two hours, and even make it possible for just anyone without programming or database skills to develop their software,” he said.

He also added that Liquid Technologies will make it possible for firms to automated their businesses easily and also access software through affordable subscription rates through their centralized marketplace. The system will also allow developers to share projects with other developers without the fear of sharing the source code.

Arguing that Liquid Systems Technology is the world’s first Graphical User Interface (GUI) based software development technology, King’ori asked developers to try it to create any form of business management software using it, without the need to write program code.

Developer Desktop Environment called Liquid SDK, Client Desktop Environment called Liquid Client/User Platform, Liquid Online Platform (for both developers and clients to access and manage their projects) and Liquid Tablet Platform that enables developers and clients to access their projects on tablet devices.)

The Liquid SDK enables the developers to use a Graphical Interface (drag and drop) to; Build Software Interface, Data input (forms) and output(reports and analysis) creation, formula generation and modifications, data validation and formatting. The SDK handles database management(Create/Write, Edit,Delete) in the background and so the developer does not need to have database skills.

Liquid Developer Kits, Liquid Central Servers and Liquid Client Platforms collaborate to ensure that all Liquid resources and software are used by valid (subscribed) developers and clients. After development, Liquid Software can be accessed on annual subscription plans instead of a one time license fee.

One of the sample Liquid Software created is available here for download[Download the Hotelex.

For final projects, developers can sell their software on the Liquid Market Place.
