Foreign AffairsBishop TD Jakes Apologizes To Kenyans After Massive Twitter Attacks by docjuli(op): 9:28am On Oct 18, 2013
Kenyans this week ‘rampaged’ online against Bishop T.D Jakes, after his utterances saying ‘natives’ in Kenya drink his water and that ‘the’ hospital in Nairobi runs because of him.

The Potters’ House chief pastor was speaking Sunday against ”Preachers of LA” a reality show depicting the extravagant lives of preachers in Los Angeles, who live luxurious lives off their flocks’ hard-earned cash. Probably angry at the bad light the reality show portrayed pastors he talked of how his mega ministry supports humanitarian projects in Kenya.

He said:

“So let the work I’ve done speak for me. You are sowing into good ground. And the 300 families that are employed in this ministry eat from this ministry, work in this ministry, and help us to produce the excellence that we do. The natives all over Kenya drink water because of this ministry. And the hospital in Nairobi survives because of this ministry.”

Though not necessarily in bad faith, Bishop TD Jakes wanted to show the good side of his ministry, feeding its own staff and helping others away, unrelated by blood or friendship, on another continent. However, his attempts arose anger among Kenyans who went on Twitter, resentful and ranting against the man of God.

Here are some of the Tweets.

Moseti Mang’ong’o ‏@lesmetaphore

@BishopJakes calling us natives was not taken out of context we are Kenyan’s NOT natives.
ICC Witness ‏@Jayzwala Hiyo statement imefanya TD Jakes akapata funding.Kahem Mutugi ‏@Camundih Eti TD Jakes has claimed to be the provider of water to the Kenyan Natives?? Now who is this Jakes btw?Kahem Mutugi ‏@Camundih Now this man @BishopJakes thinks he is God to supply the world with water? I wld never take anything from him… not even his “preaching”.HermanWaita ‏@HermanWaita

I just realised that my Mombasa apartment water consumption is 50 bob per month! Maybe the whole TD Jakes theory has some merit. Maybe.

But on realizing he had blundered, the man of God, human as we are, came forth and apologized to Kenyans. His statements never meant to be an insult but he was speaking as a committed man of God in charge of a ministry giving to see some Kenyans get access to clean water and health facilities.

Here is his full apology letter.

An attempt in last Sunday’s sermon to distinguish myself from an American television program portraying preachers in a manner that I found unseemly has caused some offense in Kenya. For that I apologize.

My intent was to show the extensive humanitarian efforts by TD Jakes Ministries through its MegaCARE arm as a means of further distinguishing this organization from the TV program’s exclusive focus on the personal material wealth of the individual ministers over the works of the Gospel.

The attempt was to highlight one well and one hospital wing in Kenya as one example of this ministry’s worldwide efforts. It was by no means meant to take responsibility for an entire nation or to minimize the contributions of its people.

My focus has always been about the mission of helping hurting people in every circumstance of life, anywhere in the world.

The extemporaneous comments when taken out of context convey a meaning far from the intent of my heart. I meant only to communicate to my constituents that my love is for people as demonstrated through years of practical ministry.

The fact that these heart-felt words have been taken to mean anything other than their original intent deeply saddens me.

I love Kenya and the entire continent of Africa. I am proud of its efforts and grateful to have had an opportunity to minister to its people on numerous occasions.

I trust that this explanation will end this apparent misunderstanding.

In His service,

Bishop Jakes

Foreign AffairsZimbabwe: Couple Sinks U.S $370 000 In Dream Wedding by docjuli(op): 2:53pm On Oct 08, 2013
HOW much would you spend for your wedding? "US$370,000," a Harare couple have answered.

Timonthy Matangi and his wife Patience, nee Kadada, faced the astronomical bill for their garden nuptials in Glen Lorne, Harare, last week.

From hiring a helicopter from South Africa for US$40,000 to paying Oliver Mtukudzi a slightly above-market fee of US$20,000, the couple - who have lived together for 20 years - would not let cost come between them and their dream wedding.

The wedding procession "got many people shell shocked", gushed the Herald newspaper.

"So extravagant was the wedding that the Glen Lorne neighbourhood came to a standstill when the couple arrived at the reception aboard a private helicopter," the paper reported on Saturday.

The 600 guests were joined by the couple's children who reportedly flew in from Australia on a chartered jet. The bridesmaids were chauffeured in top-of-the-range cars such as the Mercedes-Benz S600 and Bentleys.

The bride wore a US$10,000 black diamond ring. The bride and groom were kitted in imported designer garments while the bridal party wore matching grey suits and blue ties.

Guests took home a piece of the six-deck cake at the end of the "grand spectacle", the Herald added.

"They wanted to celebrate a life well lived. I am motivated to do the same," said their daughter, Pride.

jimcaddy: I wonder why people are throwing jibes. If you look at the heading, I said 'Could This Be?' I wanted you all to decide.. I wasn't certain myself, that was why I put a question mark.

It could be photoshop, it could be real. Besides, I went to the Gold and Co company on Twitter and followed a conversation when someone took them on this issue.

The company said that what was said in the media was misquoted.

They clarified their claim by saying the iphones were not ordered by the Nigerian government, but it was ordered by an individual who plans to give it out to people to celebrate the Independence.

Who says that individual cannot be Aliko Dangote or any other rich individual in Nigeria.

The company also said that the order was to print the Nigeria Coat of Arms on the iPhones.. So there is a possibility guys. Maybe this might not be the real picture, but there is definitely an order from a certain 'individual'
Ok.

Then modify the first post. Copy and paste the explanation above.

The sanctions were in the form of a compensation package to affected subscribers, totalling over GH¢2 million.

MTN was directed to give each affected subscriber a compensation package of eight minutes free airtime.

Thus, the total value of compensation to subscribers cost the mobile network about GH¢1.8 million, using the on-net charge of cry GH¢0.09 per minute.

MTN has, in accordance, begun implementing the compensation package to the affected subscribers in batches to avoid congestion on the network.

Some consumers the Daily Graphic spoke to acknowledged receipt of the text messages informing them of a 'goodwill gesture'.

Consumers who were originally given six minutes worth of compensation are to be given an additional two minutes as directed by the regulator.

In addition to this, the network was taken to task for failing to submit the compensation package within the time directed.

In another development, tiGO, has also been directed to compensate consumers within the Old Ningo area for service degradation from August 27 to September 2, 2013.

The details of the compensation package which the Daily Graphic unearthed showed that the NCA approved a compensation proposal from the network for consumers to make free calls for twenty-four (24) hours within the Old Ningo area.

According to a tiGO source, a hardware alarm sounded on the Transceiver Unit of NINGO 1800MHz site on the August 27, resulting in a decline of services within the Old Ningo area.

This made consumers within the affected area experience significant call drops and poor connection.

The Daily Graphic learnt that the compensation had been implemented.

The paper has been following with keen interest service delivery in Ghana, including water, electricityand banking services.

Consumers who spoke to the Daily Graphic on the measures taken by the NCA advocated that the other regulators could adopt similar strategies to counteract the trend of poor service delivery.
