Not quite. To be frank, as a freelancer, an hour of my time is worth anywhere between $15-40. Depending on how much fun I'm having.

Co-ordinating a deal like that would take a bit of time, I think, and when you add the fact that the person offering Escrow is actually taking all of the risk of the deal on themselves, I think my proposed rate is just about right. 2% of a deal is chicken change. Look how much Upwork charges. I mean, Upwork as a platform is pretty much useless; their escrow is the only reasonable thing.

Aight, so I'm kinda new here, but I'm surprised this wasn't a thing. Anyone offering escrow services should darn well be compensated for their time. I'd recommend percentage rates before a specific amount, then a standard amount after a threshold. Paid by both parties, of course.

Say, 2% of transactions under $500, and $15 for any transaction above that. So if an escrow is carrying a deal of $499, they get 4% of the money, which is roughly $20. And if it's above $500, they get $30.

Looks fair to me.

Seriously it pains me whenever scammer go with people's hard earned money as if it's my money.

I intentionally open this topic even though there was once an attempt to implement paid escrow recently but failed.

How

A company named lockmycash came to me to offer paid escrow service which I discussed with some key members. After several deliberation and quetioning. The application was turn down on the basis of security of members.

It was mentioned that what if the company fold up and run away with people's cash, then we that endorsed the company will be in great trouble.

Don't let me bore you and at the same time keep you in darkness. The company was requested to provide CBN licence so that we will trade with them like we trade with naija banks without fear. Unfortunately, the company could not provide such

My suggestion

Trust is a big issue as noted by my dear ladyF . It is in line with this that I want to suggest that any of the member that is well known and trusted (e.g. ladyF, justi4jesu, bdavis etc) that think he has time or can employ someone in his office for this purpose should please raise up to assist. This would not stop free escrow service stuff, but will ensure that everyone tha tneed escrow will get one at any given time.

My ultimate ambition

My ultimate ambition on this thread is to make it scam free and put scammers to shame. They are indded laughing at me and others good members at the moment and are thinking we can not stop them. Please trusted members, rise without fear of critisism and start paid escrow service.

Let's work together and stop scammers from destroying the future of our fellow Nigerians.

Fee

For some of us that may be afraid about the concept of payment. If you have purchase on site like loclbitcoins and the like before. You will notice that the fee is very small compare to the risk. They charge you $1 on every $100 of transaction. So, let's take for instance the guy that was scammed of $500. If there is paid escrow at 1% charges, this guy would have just sacrifice $5 with joy instead of losing his whole life savings. And if time is to be reversed and paid escrow request for 5% from this guy, he would gladly accept.

Conclusion

I will drop my pen here. Pls I want members contribution. Don't leave me on this alone. Some of us like myself, aleairhub etc enjoys the fact that people trust us and we usually receive first whether we are selling or buying. But let us remember members that have not reached our level and are still wandering around tha thread while scammers are trailing them.
