abiolag: Hi co-pilots My Camry 2.4 Ac was not cooling last month and when ir was checked, we discovered there’s no gas in it. We decided to check where the leakage was coming from and after filling little gas, a leak sound was coming out from d compressor body. It was fixed that day which was on 7th of January. I didn’t drive d car since that day because I took it for general body repair (panel and painting) I collected the car back on Sunday and find out the Ac is blowing heat again. I returned it on Monday and I was told that the gas has escaped because of not using the car for close to a month ( I had my doubt but) so we decided to just fill gas again and it was cooling at that moment but after driving for few minutes it stopped cooling again. It will cool few seconds and not cool again I returned it again yesterday and d Ac guy start checking all over again. He told me that the leakage is from the evaporator which he will need to loose the dashboard to get to where the evaporator is. Pls gurus in the house, pls what are my chances with this Ac guy and his decision to loose my dashboard. I need the Ac for the hustle I’m using the car for. Opening dashboard is normal for critical AC issues but how good is the person in question? |

Y1nka: ,,
I am not making excuses for him, I already stated it there, WHY DIDNT U GET THE CAR CHECKED before taking it in rentals?
He will protect his interests, So you are expected to protect yours as well.
It’s business not church charity. I think we all just get too desperate to get a car we say Yes to everything.
PS: I got most part of the car checked already, what needed fixing has been priced for fix before I signed Na now you just talk better thing. I intended to take the car on HP but I know if i do rentals for a while, I will detect any issues with the car within that period but wetin dey vex me gan gan be say the moment I discovered all the issues with this car and tried to reason with this guy, he put me on conference with dealer saying the car no get any issue bla bla. This is something he knows nothing about, how can you be claim it's because of belt and servicing that i did that's what made car overheat. The guy no reason me at all. Let me add that few days before I got his car, there's a corolla here that we got and returned the next day because it was acting up and it's strictly rentals that we want to do but this one there's an intent of HP hence the need to observe. If i didn't fix this guy's gasket before returning his car. I'm sure he would have been here raining fire and brimstone. His belief is that I caused every single problem the car has even bad battery and AC leakage. |

Y1nka: Initially, I ignored most of these post cos na money I dey find not trouble. But I currently drive that CIVIC so here’s my take.
1: about the contract:
I’m assuming the contract was given before the car, thus why sign or accept conditions that you know you were not comfortable with when it’s not under duress?
Desperation breeds ill feelings like this.
For example, DjDamian included some clause In the agreement that I wasn’t comfortable with such as:
a- inspection distance
b- written permission for out of lagos trip.
c- Price
I checked this agreement for days, spoke to my person then got back to him about these 3, and after about a week and so, HE compromised.
I’m not praising him for the compromise or acting tough , I am just pointing out that this is business not favour, you are partners, so if you find anything missing or not necessary at the beginning of the partnership, your inability to point it out takes out your claim of victimization.
You could easily turn it down, or give a counter offer or condition.
Ignorance is not an excuse.
2- About the car:
Before picking up the car, I paid my mechanic to help check the vehicle . With this I know what to expect and what not (at least some of it).
Going blindly cos I was in a small issue and needed a personal car is buying problem for myself free of charge.
I have to Agree with oga Northbird or so on this, it takes an inexperienced driver to burn a gasket , or experience driver in a life threatening situation (such as car overheating while robbery is going on or anything fatal). But if your car temperature is working, and you are not in a tough situation, YOU can never burn your gasket. You never experience be that.
Before you say I’m capping. Been driving for just 11 years and some months (21 years and now 32) over 8 different vehicles owned in this period, I’ve dealt with over heating many times yet I HAVE never BURNT. A gasket.
This Civic did overheat third day I picked it up, while driving ikeja to Iju road to deliver a customer phone. After I saw 3 extra bars and AC started blowing air only,I parked and turned car off. Reserve low but not dry, (obviously spotted it early).
Cause : One fan was only working and I was in the Iju ishaga traffic. This car temperature over worked.
what I DID: , I rented battery waited till temperature was down, delayed till past 10 when traffic was free, so I can drive in moderate speed and use air from grill to blow th radiator , start and drove home..
(If there had been traffic along the road, pull over, park. Wait till temp cools down and traffic move a bit, then join and continue to do so, till you’re safely home) You’ll be fine
MAIN SOLUTION: fuse controlling second fan burnt, only cost 5k to fix fuse plus workmanship .
But it could have cost me more if I was so carried away or way more inexperienced.
No car would burn a gasket in seconds, it takes hours, days or sometimes weeks.
Incase it was bad before u picked it, you may have known by temperature always being in middle or slightly higher by a bar.
Did few repairs yes, but nothing major ,GEAR isn’t faulty yet, but sometimes delays to get to high speed between 65-100km+ . Doesn’t affect the driving initially but I keep preparing his mind that it needs to be checked. It could something minor or major. Regardless I’m aware on time and let him know even though it’s HP. Not when it happens I give story. I personally advice you must have own a car before taking someone else’s, so u know what to expect and what not. Cos even if it’s your, you will do repairs, but it just shouldn’t be pocket draining .
Lastly the Man Damian himself
3- Personality :
In my language , Money spoils friendship (faster). I’ve never had issue with the “dreaded evil Damian “ (at least since first week of January till now cos I take care of what could first damage us- Money).
Before taking the agreement,
I prepared
1- His payment for one month ahead
2- miscellaneous repairs of up to 150k in savings.
3- then his initial deposit as requested.
This is to keep an arms length so we could both AVOID any issue that may arise from things like this.
I wanted a different car (perhaps cheaper) so I can pay faster cos Uber is not looking profitable for me, I go to work, and not sure part time bolt / Uber can run this payment. He was willing to compromise both payment or car type .
In other words, Damian is not holy , we all are humans, OmoApena too is not a devil, e no easy to be consistent.
But the relationship didn’t deserve to get sour based on these flimsy stuffs. Every business requires u to manage people first, before money. I think the fall off is from pure mismanagement of both.
OmoApena before God bless you this way, remember he used someone. And You will still hire to other people as well. Don’t burn the bridge u crossed.
DjDamian, life is by turn, regardless of how people make you feel, we are different and life sometimes will not revolve around our expectations.
I hope u both can move on from this cos last last, na both of una God don bless. Considering the bolded, do you assume I should have parked at Guiness where "those boys" were obviously waiting for targets? So na overheating say make the car pulley no good? Na overheating sef affect the battery, engine seat, AC leakage and alternator belts? I fuckkiing bought a brand new radiator for that car You're not the one in the situation and may never understand. You also stated that it's better to own a car bla bla, the deal between me and Damian (the most greedy person to ever graced the planet earth) is not something you understand, you should stick to the one before you bro. Anyways, have you had a rewire check the brainbox of the car you're driving? |

Itsrm: He took responsibility for the overheating. The way you're sidestepping the other issues he raised gives the impression that you're guilty as charged
And is there anyone here who has never driven a car till it overheated? I have experienced overheating before and the temperature gauge didn't move an inch.
Overheating can happen to the best and most careful of drivers. If I can service a car with oil of N51,500 within 3-4 days that it was given to me then i'm sure you should understand that radiator and temperature check should be the least of my problems. Now to how the car overheated, it happened around Guiness. I have 3 mechanics; 1 close to my work, 1 close to my home and 1 at Agege. On that very day, I suspected the car was overheating even though the temperature looked normal but I can't park in that area because of "those boys" (it was around 9pm or so) and since Guiness is not far from my mechanic in Agege, I decided to head that way. On getting to Agege, I PARKED THE CAR MYSELF and confirmed if the fans were working and alas they weren't. I had a rewire reconnect the fan but I wasn't comfortable with it. I wanted to be sure about the gasket. Bro e shock me say gasket done burn on top how many minutes overheating fah! If i donwload all the problems the car was bringing up from day 1 with proofs in our chat, you sef go shock. He keeps shouting overheating, overheating like i'm a kid or something. If I wasn't negligent to service a car he didn't service with oil of N51,500. Why will i be negligent with coolant or ordinary water in radiator. This dude doesn't even know jack about car parts. He keeps saying my mechanic that serviced the car, that changed belt caused overheating. Lol even when I told him the issue was as a result of blocked radiator , he still insisted I caused the radiator to block and I could have avoided the blockage if I wasn't negligent. |

TheModerator: Even if issues were there, still boils down to negligence on the part of the driver. How can one drive a newly acquired Nigerian used car and trust it without constantly checking the coolant level and things related to it? How can it even overheat to the point of burning gasket if you have your eyes where it should be while driving. Less expensive fix could have solved it if driver was careful enough. If I can service a car with oil of N51,500 within 3-4 days that it was given to me then i'm sure you should understand that radiator check should be the least of my problems. |

I am not judging you or him. If there’s one thing I have learnt in this car business. If we can’t proceed, then aborting should come with else without tarnishing each other image. If I choose to do what I ought not to do, it is from my heart and I’ll take no offense as long it’s not under duress and I have options. You are under rental and service is not of yours, if you insist and feel the need for it? Let is mech be the judge, at least you’ve raised your voice enough. For belt? That should be a minor thing. Either a pulley or adjuster is doing a bad job or wrong belt(like new coated with chemical to make it look like toks). Remember he mention body marks too which is normal in Lagos… all said and done, poor communication mostly in this business is one of our problem.

pope191: Says who? 3 week is not enough to damage a car? A day is even enough. You noticed a car is overheating and you choose to drive it like that? How many days does it take to damage it?
I won’t take side between a brew I barely know anything about, but if donbroswer called DJ out and he didn’t waste time to air it out, common give the some space. Haba! The issue here should be if he’s telling the truth or not. One side story is never a reason manner to judge. Donbroswer drummed this beat, let him dance to it in peace.
Different moniker popping in support of A or B. I think Cheerfulgiver was the only one that air my tots absolutely. Northbird says they should mend their relationship… I see a relationship that has gone beyond mending. No ounce of love and respect. The only pain I felt about DJ is him being the bad/difficult person, but when there’s need or business in view, than DJ comes to mind. Feels more like the kind of person we only remember when in need, but discard the moment we don’t need them. Crazy where the good jolly friends go to when we are in need.
Hence I see the need of both trying to go their separate way asap. And in this case, each should give what is due to each asap. Tell each and both party should agree with sincere mind when they would be able to get whatever that is delaying the processing of ending whatever binds them.
Omoapena you don’t have to like this and I won’t tell you to apologize. Just give the man his respect. Either you senior him or not. Get whatever you need to get from him, both of you may still drink and laugh together (we never can tell, while you make enemies here over the matter). Just give em that respect regardless of what you make out of his person. Una contract remain like 10 percent to be over. I won't go into all the salaye but I will touch on important ones 1. He gave me the car without servicing it. I serviced the car myself with Mobil 1 oil (that's what he claim, he uses), market price then was 51,500. He claimed the former owners told him there's no need to service it lol. Now that's the only thing my mechanic did before the overheating issue. After Overheating, I still serviced again with same oil. 2. Did the overheating affect the car engine seat that i changed? 3. He wrote it up there I bought a brand new battery with my money, is it overheating that affected the battery too? 4. Is it overheating that made alternator belt to cut twice in 3 weeks? 5. Now that a new owner is fixing gear, is it the overheating that caused the gear to start having problems 6. He forgot to include that I fixed AC leakage. Is it after overheating too the Car AC started leaking? 7. Coil and plugs nko? If you want me to go into details, I will but then let me stop here for now. |
