Phones › Re: Why Did You Stop Using Your MTN Line? by donhils: 10:28pm On Oct 14, 2014 |
brushesz: This thread is not meant to paint MTN Nig black. As far as I'm concerned, MTN Nig is still and will still be the best Telecom Network here in Nigeria. Like I said earlier I'm not here to give a dog a bad name so as to kill it.
I noticed some folks receive calls with their MTN lines since they've been known for that line for a long time, but make calls from other network. This got me really bothered because in terms of network coverage, data speed, sim swap etc, MTN set the pace for others to follow.
Why I stopped recharging my MTN line. I lost my phone with my MTN line inside. I successfully retrieved the MTN line the following day. But something happened. 100 was deducted on the 1st of Oct, I overlooked it. I thought maybe it's for the independence stuff. I noticed N50 and N100 kept disappearing from my balance consistently. I called customer care agentsss and they couldn't resolve it.
I had to get a different network line to make calls but receive calls with my MTN line since I'm known mostly by my MTN line and I find it really difficult to get another MTN line.
Please if there is any MTN Customer Care Agent here in Nairaland that is fully willing to help me solve this problem, please pm me so I can send my phone number across.
You can share your experience. Thank you. Mmttcchheeww.... You haven't seen airtime disappearing. Go and use Airtel you'll understand better. |

ClintonNzedimma: dont you see the stupidity of Nigerian Telecome providers? I know of bb dedicated servers that help to compress bandwidth. On top of the dedicated servers, Nigerian networks will still charge cheaper for blackberry like 1k for 3GB yet the Android and iOs that consumes much data and has no bandwidth compressing algorithm will be charged at 2k for 2GB. I dont know if you are getting my point Exactly. They are not getting the point. Someone claims to have something that compresses their data and yet you give them more data at a cheaper rate, then those that compress you still give them less data at higher price. This in my opinion is senseless. |

geniusbami: Blessed are those who use 2 sim cards in Nigeria. For me it just makes sense to call & send sms with glo & browse with Airtel. I'll show U.
I call all networks with glo bounce at ₦7.20 & get a free sms for every sms I send. I can make free midnight calls from 0.01hrs. I get ₦50 bonus to call glo lines the ffg mrg b4 9. As if that's not enough, I get free 30MB when I load ₦200.
I subscribe to Airtel unlimited BB monthly for just ₦1,500 & I get 2GB. Now I understand I can get 4GB for 2mths at ₦2,000, that's crashing d cost to ₦1,000 per month. Good for me, Airtel is smooth on HSDPA & HSDPA+ most of the time in my area.
To crown it all, the 2 sims are just in one phone; my Sony Xperia C. What can be better? And you think all these things you said now will make me to run and buy Airtel and glo SIMs? Your glo call seems good but you refused to say that the N7.20 to all networks is not from the first minute. |

Agbi4: Trust me this Airtel is really a joke. yesterday I was eligible for both the N2000 for 4gb and N3500 for 9gb and I was hoping to subscribe today because I had about 100mb remaining from my subscription as at yesterday. I woke up this morning and dialled the codes and to my greatest surprise I was told I'm not eligible for the 9gb then I checked the code for the 4gb and I was told I don't have sufficient balance then I called 111 to inquire why I was no longer eligible for the 9gb offer and after the call was dropped (I can't say if it was intentional or due to network failure) I rechecked the code for the 4gb and I was told I'm no longer eligible so right now I'm not eligible for both plans. I can't seem to understand airtel. why can't they allow every interested customer to subscribe without this eligibility rubbish, it's our money that we're begging them to take and they're busy doing shakara. Well, it doesn't still change the fact that you are no longer eligible. |

eddyland: What an offer from Airtel! Airtel has launched a new Airtel android data 1+1 offer that offers eligible SIMs whooping 4GB for 2K and 9GB for 3.5K both valid for 2 months.
This was coming at the hills of the just concluded Airtel BIS 1+1 offer. This time around Android users that have eligible SIM can now heave a sigh of relieve with this latest offer.
And the good thing is that all airtel data bundles can be used on any device of choice and not necessarily Android alone, including these latest offer.
http://highteknology..ro/2014/10/wow-airtel-launches-android-data-11.html I am not eligible again as usual. |

Collinz2: i have nt play them, download and test them na I have the 2 but I can't seem to figure out the one to delete and leave the other. Fifa 15 plays only while connected to internet while fifa 14 has some weekly games that can be played offline. Fifa 15 has better graphics but fifa 14 offer great skills while playing. Above all, in-game songs in fifa 14 are sweeter. So am finding it hard to delete one as I can't afford having both of them on my phone thereby eating my phone storage. They are about 1.4gigs each |

Education › Re: 10 Words Nigerians Commonly Misspell by donhils: 9:11am On Sep 17, 2014 |
dammyjay93: 1. “Goodluck.”This is probably the most misspelled word in Nigeria today. The reason is obvious: it’s the first name of Nigeria’s current president, Goodluck Jonathan. But there is no word like “goodluck”--or, its other variant,badluck-- in the English language; there is only “good luck”--and "bad luck." Good luck denotes an auspicious state resulting from favorable outcomes, a stroke of luck, or an unexpected piece of good fortune. That someone would be named “Good Luck” (which has now been rendered “Goodluck” in error) is itself evidence of insufficient familiarity with the rules and idiomatic rhythm of the English language.
2. “Defination.”There is no letter “a” in the spelling of that word. Replace the “a” with an “i” to have“definItion.”Related misspelled words are“definAtely”instead of “definitely,”“definAte,” instead of “definIte,” etc.
3. “Alot.”That is not an English word. The closest resemblance to that word in the English language is the phrase “a lot.” Since no one writes “alittle,” “afew,” “abit,” etc, it is indefensible that people write “alot.” But this is a universal spelling error in the English-speaking world; it is not limited to Nigerians. Other cousins of this spelling error are“Infact”instead of “in fact” and“inspite”instead of “in spite.”
4. “Loose/lose.”Many Nigerians use the word “loose” when they actually mean to write “lose.” Loose is commonly used as an adjective to denote the state of not being tight (as in: loose clothes). Other popular uses include the sense of being casual and unrestrained in sexual behavior (as in: loose women), lacking a sense of restraint or responsibility (as in: “Goodluck Jonathan’s loose tongue”). Although “loose” can sometimes be used as a verb, “loosen” is the preferred word to express the sense of making something less tight or strict. “Lose,” on the hand, is to cease to have, or to fail to win, or suffer the loss of a person through death, etc. A safe bet is to choose to err on the side of “lose” when you want to express an action.
5. “Priviledge.”There is no “d” in the spelling of that word. It’s spelled “privilege.”
6. “Nonchallant.”It’s actually spelled with only one “l.” Unfortunately, even news reports in Nigerian newspapers habitually spell the word with double “l.” I wonder if they’ve disabled their spell check.
7. “Grammer.”There is no “e” in the word. Replace the pesky “e” with an “a” to have “grammAr.” I’ve read posts on Nigerian Internet discussion forums and on Facebook railing against “bad grammer”! Well, if you feel sufficiently concerned about bad grammar to write about it, you’d better damn well know how to spell grammar! To be fair, this misspelling isn’t exclusively Nigerian, but its regularity in popular writing in Nigeria qualifies it as a candidate for this list. The people I have a hard time forgiving are those who attend or attended secondary schools with “grammar school” as part of their names (such as my old secondary school, which is called Baptist Grammar School) but spell “grammar” with an “e.” I see that a lot on Facebook. Such people deserve to be stripped of the certificates they got from their high schools!
8. “Proffessor.”The name for the highest ranking position for a university academic (in British usage) and any full-time or part-time member of the teaching staff of a university (in American usage) is never spelled with double “f.” It’s correctly spelled “professor.” So if “proffessor” is wrong,“proff”is equally wrong. The British and Canadian colloquial abbreviation for “professor” is “prof.”
9. “Pronounciation.” Although the verb form of this word is “pronounce,” it changes to “pronunciation” when it nominalizes, that is, when it changes into a noun. Note that there is no “o” after the first “n” in the word.
10. “Emanciated.”It should correctly be spelled “emaciated.” There is no “n” in the word. This widespread spelling error in Nigerian written English is the direct result of the way we (mis)pronounce the word. An “n” sound almost always intrudes on our pronunciation of the word, much like it does in our pronunciation of “attorney,” so that most Nigerians say “antoni-general” of the federation. A related misspelling is“expantiate.”It should be “expatiate.” There is no “n” after the first “a.”

laudate: What do you want Heritage Bank customers, to do? Their bank has the smallest number of branches and ATMs in Nigeria !
8 times out of 10, their customers often end up using the ATMs of other banks as their own ATMs are so few and far between! Sucks for them I suppose. |
Business › Re: ATM Fee: CBN Lied To Us by donhils: 7:05pm On Aug 29, 2014 |
RikoduoSennin: You don't get it! It seems fair now because you have not experienced it yet. In naija, things don't work the way they say.
3 times per month means the maximum amount you can withdraw is N60,000. Since, you can only withdraw a maximum of N20,000 PER transaction in most ATM machine. So if you withdraw a total of N60,000 on the first of the month, the next withdrawal you make will be charged.
Besides, we can be charged right from the first transaction due to faulty ATMs, after all ATM still seize Card, Withdraw with making Payments from time to time.
If they want to put the charge, then the ATM's better removal maximum withdrawal limit or increase the Maximum withdrawal to N150,000 for each single transaction. Simple. Go to your bank and use their ATM. This charge applies only when you use ATM of another bank. |
