Chelsea produced their most scintillating performance of last season in this fixture, tearing Everton to shreds to the tune of five goals. Yet that was a win inspired by Eden Hazard, a player now feeling his way back after an ankle operation, and the visitors are much changed these days. A sterner test awaits this time with the visitors steeled and the champions still to be properly strengthened before the transfer deadline. It would not take a lot to bring a summer of frustration back to the surface. Chelsea’s complaints about a lack of recovery time after Wednesday’s eye-catching success at Atlético Madrid have been overshadowed somewhat by the untimely loss to injury of Benjamin Mendy and Sergio Agüero for Manchester City. Yet the visitors will still arrive at Stamford Bridge brimming with attacking intent, and Antonio Conte’s side, rejigged or not, will need to rescale the heights of their display at the Wanda Metropolitano to check the leaders’ progress. The suspicion is this could actually end up as fascinating a duel between Conte and Pep Guardiola as the players out on the field. nateevs:I believe aubameyang can be purchased at 60m if the board gets the negotiations right. Since they are the ones offering him to us, that sorts of gives us a higher ground on negotiations. There are too many variables and uncertainties around Bellotis transfer. If the board can get him for 60m or thereabout, he is the best choice. We can't spend 80m on a player who has done very well in just one season. Cast your mind back to the Shaun wright Philip's saga in 2005. Do you want a repeat of that? How can you forget so easily? |
airmark:I quite agree with nlimited22 here Unlimited22:Abumeyang seems the cheapest and at the same time the proven one amongst our current limited options. It's best we go for him. |
My sole issue with Belloti is the fact that he has ONLY ONE good season under his belt. It reminds me of a certain Wilfred bony. At Swansea it took bony very little time to adapt to the league and he started bursting nets week in week out. He was labeled as a beast in the box, a bully for defenders and a very prolific striker. He had the best record for goals that year and was very consistent in his performances against the big teams. Man-city snapped him that winter break only for him to fade away automatically, he was absolutely useless as even a substitute. Aguero was injured for some months and he couldn't fit into his shoes, he couldn't blend in. They paired him with dzeko, it didn't work out, he was played as a lone striker ,it didn't work. with Man-city lost some key matches that period to hand the title to Chelsea. That is a typical experience of one season wonders. Especially a very EXPENSIVE YOUNG one at that. There are a lot of uncertainties surrounding their future. A lot of ''what ifs''and ''I hope''. What if he cannot blend into the team? What if the price tag is a burden? What if his inexperience costs us? What if he's not suited for a top club? What if he's not consistent in his performances? I hope he'll be a big match player. I hope he wouldn't be injury prone. I hope he'll adapt to the new environment. There are just too many uncertainties for such a price tag. 80+ million pounds is not what you throw around not even in this hyper-inflated market. We the fans are just so anxious and eager for a signing no matter the conditions and terms but I think we should always apply strategic thinking and analysis in our wishes and planning for the club. We shouldn't be overridden by our sentiments. |
Chelsea v Burnley: match preview Victor Moses’s red card in the FA Cup final means he is suspended for Chelsea’s first league game of the season. César Azpilicueta will switch to the right with the new signing Antonio Rüdiger coming in to the back three. Álvaro Morata, another new recruit, will lead the line now Diego Costa is out of favour. Burnley will miss Michael Keane in defence while Jon Walters will have a tough task replacing Andre Gray up front. Nihilist:Zola was a very good attacker for us. Likewise Balotelli at Manchester City. |
CapitalCee:PERFORMANCE RELATED. YES. those teams have won more and performed better than united in the last 5 years. |
bigkesh: PietroRico:Abumeyang scored over 40 goals last season. That defies any theory or logic that says he's wasteful. Anyways I agree with you on the very valid points you raised about his eventual diminishing speed which is one of his primary skill and talent but I believe he can give us 4 solid years by which time hopefully Tammy Abraham would have come of age to lead the line. That's an added advantage. We would have a top striker who would give us a solid few years and Tammys prospect of a first team shirt in a few years would be feasible. Secondly, of all available options, abumeyang tops them all. He is an ESTABLISHED regular at a top European team with a vast array of experience and he comes much cheaper than the others we're being linked with. We don't have too many options. It's only logical we go for him. |
Odunharry:I NEVER said that Aston Villa don't have UCL. i t seemed like you guys were using only the league since they had more leagues generally than Chelsea. I had to clarify that Chelsea has more trophies both in general number and the different competitions. I certainly hope you understand me. General number of trophies, Chelsea outnumbers Aston Villa. |

.My God!! What sort of callousness is this? How hard could some youths hearts be? Cultism is thriving because our politicians are secretly supporting them, the politicians make Cultism look profitable by using them to carry out heinous and diabolical crimes. It's very unfortunate that our society is like this today. Even celebrities now openly flaunt their membership of this illegal groups. In what sane country will a group hold a whole town to ransom First ikorodu, now this? WHAT A PITY. |
masonkz:Indeed, it's very much unfortunate that our leaders can't see that religion or rather excess of is unhealthy for the society. It reduces the logical thought processes of many individuals. |
bigkesh:This James issue is not a matter of poor management. I just read an article that shed some light on factors that made the deal this smooth. 1. Bayern and Madrid are on very good relationship terms. They have had very good transactions between them for the past few seasons. Robben to Madrid, xabi for kross etc. Many at times, 2 clubs relationships determines either a smooth execution of transfer or reluctance of transfers. For instance, it's no hidden knowledge that Everton and Chelsea are now having a very strained relationship and that might have played role in this lukakugate. Chelsea/vitesse is an example of a good working relationship between clubs. 2. Ancelloti played a very vital role in that transfer. James best spell to date came under Ancelloti's guidance and management so both of them are very much familiar and have an established working relationship. 3. Automatic first team slot in a big team. Bayern needed new wingers to replace their aged ones, and also a new AMF which is his best position, so there are available slots for him to easily slot in. Something Chelsea and Man-U couldn't offer. James coming here would have left us scratching our heads as we already had many wingers and whether he would have adapted to a new role up top is left for a debate. 4. The EPL wealth factor which I already highlighted below donjazet:So Bigkesh. It isn't really about poor management this time. One can just say this deal is just an exception to the norm influenced by various factors. |
Wenger was absolutely correct when he said that there are 2 transfer markets currently, one for the EPL and another general market. Madrid have been valuing James at 60m to 70m thinking that an EPL team, either Man-U or Chelsea will take the bait, just like Morata right now, when none of them did and James started agitating for a move, they had to now dispatch him for the only club that came for an absolutely ridiculous deal. There's no way, they would have done this type of deal with an English club. The EPLs excessive wealth has become a disadvantage to it. All clubs in Europe double the value of a player once an EPL team comes for them. They'll strong-arm the English clubs. It's a very unfortunate situation. There is no way Morata is worth 70m, if it were a team like Sevilla, napoli, Dortmund, he'll be sold for a maximum price of 45-50m. It's very unfortunate indeed. |
Seun, oya ooo. |
