May I ask you guys one question

If Akpabio had built it and approach GEJ to use federal powers to make it an international seaport will GEJ agree or not.?

Please give me your answers with reasons.

As for security issues, the navy has a base at calabar and also at a base close to bakassi

Even ports make it difficult for smugglers entering easily due to the presence of security gadgets and personnel.
I gave you what to reason on;

1. Any Int'l entry route into the country, is under control/list/purview ( it is a law,you don't break law )

2. Int'l entry routes such seaports, int'l airports and perharps intra/intercontinental train servives, are security flash points.

DWELLING ON AIR/SEAPORTS(Int'l)

Airport= Inland, and hence, less security threat, because it is not directly open to other countries/outside world.

Seaport=Directly opening the country to other countries/outside world.greater security threat,and hence,'stricker' regulations.

Finally:

1.Mbakwe built airport like enugu airport,Oduah 'upgraded' it to int'l cargo airport,'in reality'.
When he was building it,he built it 'on the basis that it is state airport',he hasn't broken any law.

2.you don't do same with seaport.their isn't any basis upon which you can do it,cos' their isn't anything like 'state seaport',unlike state airport.

Sir I disagree with this part I highlighted red

The State government should have built it . Then lobby the FG to make it an international seaport.

That is what Mbakwe did when Shagari told him that he can't build an airport in old IMO when one already exist in PH. kiss
That's a diff. Issue.
An Ibaka port will automatically open up Nigerian border to the outside world, and hence, needs fed.regulation, unlike
Imo airport which is inland, and needs approval before in't flight lands their.(think, you will understand what am saying)

To me I feel disappointed that Akwa Ibom with all her oil revenue is still fooling around such wonderful project that can transform the state to an economic hub

The late Mbaka of old Imo and Abia won't slack in issues like this

I stand to be corrected, the governor is not serious about it otherwise by now that project would have being completed. cool

My guy, states do not av' the power to build in'l access routes into the country, federal government does.unless fed.approve of it,states won't do it.you av' got to lobby, and Akpobio has been doing it.

Why must they export

Build it na! Port that they did not build when oil was $100 is it at $40 they will build. Let them keep deceiving themselves. We need to develop an INTERNAL economy model. The ONLY reason for exporting is so as to IMPORT. If we reducee the need to import we reduce the need to export. Food clothes, medicines and building materials .Those should be our priorities for now.How do we industrialize to make those things that we can

The US economy depends 10% on exports. They are a large country with lots of resources so are we but we still import second bra and shimmy,Why?

Importation is not the way to develop our economy or create jobs. Yes a port at that location would make sense if it is to be used for exports. To import first we musst earn the dollars and that is an oil dependency model.

Already the SE has many expert skilled shoemakers. What is government doint to enhance thei capabilities? Potentially with the rubber and leather resources in the country they can make enough shoes for our security services and even the whole country.
What about furniture making or building materials ,who is making these things in Nigeria.
What happened to the paper mill in that region or to TINAPA?

Jobs. That really is what we need.[s] Not a new seaport to use for exporting jobs and our future to other manufacturing nations.
Let us industrialize and move away from that IMPORTATION mentality[/s]
you made point from the beginning, but goofed at the ending.
Yes,we don't want importation,but export.
Their are many products & services within Abia/Anambra belt, that needs exportation, and hence, new port is Important.
You want job,not new port.how old are you?.
Do you how many job that port cand both directly and indirectly create by its usage?.
You don't want new port, but Lagos state government is lobbing for a THIRD port in Lekki.who are you fooling, yourself or we Igbos?.
Government doesn't av' business building industries,individuals/investors does (and that's what happens here in the East),but government need to avail those industries with a readily available/nearby means of transportation(export route).

owobokiri:

Sadly/ironically, ibaka/ibom sea port might end up an idea basically because of the reason you gave in your last paragragh. . While a lot of people will shout "go back to your erosion ravaged villages" here, they are also aware that the high concentration of human and by extension, business activities in lagos, stimulated in no small measure by the ports in Lagos , helps bring in billions of Naira both as tax reveneu for the local and state governments and for local landlords who charge record rents for accomodations in Lagos (it is only in Lagos, that you will find the price of an empty swamp surrounded by a smelly lagoon bigger than that of a beachfront estate in Dubai!). Hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs have been created as a result too. . Many mega projects of this nature have eluded the former eastern Nigeria as a result of high level dirty backroom politics in the past. . If the Akwa ibom state government doesn't take the bull by the horn and start this project, it may never be realised. . The next governor should make this project his signature project.. Left to me, ibaka is far more important than the new stadium
Well spoken.truth is that, the opposition against Gej,is more than what they are presenting to Nigerians.
Same reason Oduah was blackmailed out of office, for stopping greater percentage of Igbos from using Lagos airport thereby dwindling the revenue acruing to Lagos from the airport, and increasing that of Enugu,by giving us Int'l airport.
Gej is unlocking the economic potentials of what was known as the former eastern region, and some people are not happy about that.
I av' told whosoever that cares to listen, that Akwa-abasi-ibom state, can rival lagos,if that port floats, because Igbos will channel their investments homeward,by using Ibaka port as export-import mega route, pending when Abia port floats.
Mark it,any SS/SEterner that opposes Gej,must be a bastard.

Akpabio/Akwa ibom state can bankroll the project.in fact, that project would av' been commission by now,had it been that its under state project.
Projects such as Int'l entry points like Int'l Airports, and In't seaports, are in federal list, and not state government list, hence, its only federal government that can initiate the plan, and award the contract.states can only lobby for it,and may partake in funding.

Good one.Am so happy. The port is just few minutes drive from Aba the industrial nerve of Africa, probably 25-35 minutes drive.
This will surely divert huge businesses from Lagos towards this new frontier of int'l business movement.
Its on record that, the two major reasons Igbos are in Lagos, are,Int'l airport, which Enugu airport is now working to correct, and the presence of seaports in Lagos.By Gods grace, this when completed, will pull importers homeward.
