Previously on BEHIND SHADES:I sacrificed my family, my love, my husband, for her happiness Brenda. I allowed my husband to sleep with her, to buy her a car, treat her as a lady, at least that’s what she always wanted” Cleo said.“God will punish you, you motherfucking bitch….(Becky storms out in anger and tears). I heard everything, there is no need pretending and lying. I heard everything. EPISODE 5: You of all people, I thought you were a friend, a friend who has always wished me to be happy. Becky said in tears and anger in her voice. "Of course I wanted you to be happy and that is why I did what I did". Cleo said defending herself. "I see. You are a big fool, get out of my house right now; I don’t want to ever see you near me again, go away" Becky pushed her out of the house. "I will go, you can dwell in your cursed life, and your parents know you are cursed that is why they paid me and my husband to make you happy. Thrash". She walks out of the balcony, enters her car and drives off. Becky still in shock starred at Brenda who was already patting her back. Did you hear that? Becky said. "Calm down, it is going to be fine” Brenda said to her. "No, No, did you hear that? She said my parents paid them for this". She untangles herself from the grips of Brenda and entered her car and drove out. Becky drove fast into her parents compound and met them on their way out. “Why are you driving like you want to fight someone, hope there is no problem?” her mother asked. “You have a whole lot of explanation to do, Cleo said you know something about George leaving me or something, I didn't understand. so i came here for authentic explanation and none of you should leave out any detail” she replied. Her parents looked at themselves and were looking confused. “Will you come inside and let’s explain to you properly, you are getting it all wrong. Please come inside let’s talk” her father replied. They all walked inside, sat down and took a long pause, looking disappointed, they didn't know where to start from. “we know how you feel, Cleo has called us to tell us you have found out, but we want you to know one thing, we did it for you. We did it because we love you, we did it because we didn’t want you to continue to be frustrated. Yes, we paid Cleo and her husband 10 million naira to make you happy and with the state of the economy, they agreed. It wasn't their fault. He couldn't do it anymore and felt guilty and left the country with his kids, am sure Cleo will be on her way to meet him soon. He never loved you, it was just a plan to fulfill your dream as a woman, to be happy” her mother explained. “I am confused here, you said you wanted my happiness, you love me and you went this far? I would have preferred to be single than go through this kind of trauma. Do you know what I have been going through mummy?, do you know the kind of shame I have to deal with everywhere I go?" She said in tears. I would have preferred to stay single, mummy, at least no one would have to call me names or know what I am going through, this happened publicly. Everybody, big, small and old was there to witness my engagement party with George and everybody was there to see that he or no one showed up as my husband to be till now" "This is the height of insolence mummy, there is nothing you did to make me happy, instead you made everything worse than it seem to be. I don’t think that I will ever forgive you for this” Becky said and ran out angrily. They called out her name to come back but she didn't look back. ***My people, what would you have done, if you were in my shoes? what would you say to me now as an advice, because you people are good at judging me and advising me here. Do you have anything to say now, will you blame me for anything i do next?, let me know in the comment section please***** Cleo sat in the comfort her sitting room and reading a magazine when she heard a knock on the door. She stood up to see who is there when she was pushed back inside by a man in all black. She was scared and asked what they wanted. They didn’t say a word to her, another man came inside making them two and one sat on the chair. “what do you want, who are you?” She asked them in fear. They looked at each other, smiled and shot her three times and left the house. She died on the spot. Posted by Joy Akosaat 9:02 PM Labels: BEHIND SHADES |

EPISODE 4: BEHIND SHADES Previously on BEHIND SHADES:Becky, who was now on the ground was crying bitterly, what if he was dead on his way here? She thought to herself. Where is George? Where is my fiancee?. Everyone left the engagement party in disappointment. She cried uncontrollably. EPISODE 4: Weeks passed, George was no where to be found. She cried and cried until there was no more tears in her eyes. Cleo came visiting everyday to console her, at least that was the only friend who was by her side at this odd moment in her life. “forget him and get your life together, this is not the end of the world, the most important thing now is that this has confirmed that you are not cursed after all, it is just about you being at the right place at the right time so you could meet people who are ready to call on you, love and cherish you. Who could believe that after all the whole drama George pulled he traveled out leaving you here alone” Cleo said. I don’t want to think about it, I just don’t want to think about it Cleo(in deep tears). I did everything to make him happy, to make the relationship work. Suddenly he disappears. Where do I start from? (she falls on the floor, holds her hair and scatters it). all of a sudden, Cleo’s phone rings on the table and George’s picture appeared on the screen with name saved as ‘Baby’, Cleo grabbed the phone quickly and cut the call. Becky whose mouth is wide opened in shock said “is that not George picture on your phone, he was the one calling just now”. What do you mean by that? It isn't him, that’s my husband calling and you could see baby or didn't you see that” Cleo replied her furiously. But…I thought I saw… (Becky stammers). (Someone walks in) Brenda stood and watched and wondering what was happening. “why am I hearing your voices from the gate” she said. She dumps her hang bag on the cushion and went to the bar, grabbed a glass and poured some drink and walked slowly back to where they were. “why is no one answering me, hope you are no longer crying over that idiot guy, baby, he doesn't deserve you, just let him go, someone better would come for you” Brenda said. Ask your friend who was the person that called her just now? Becky said and walked away from the sitting room angrily. Brenda starred on in surprise. “Call ke?...i don’t understand, Oh, Cleo, who called you that is making Becky range in anger?” Don’t mind her, she just assumes everyone is George because they have bears. My husband called me now and she saw it clearly that it was ‘Baby’ I stored the number as and then she assumed the picture that was attached with the name was George” Cleo said. Ahh, Ahh, is that why she is angry? Na wa for Becky oh” Brenda said. Na real wa for her(Cleo walks to the bar to take a drink, the phone rings again). “your phone is ringing dear (Brenda picks up the phone to hand it over to Cleo who was already coming for it). “Jesus!!! Is this not George” Brenda screamed. Cleo closed her mouth with her hand and dragged her outside. “Shut up, just keep shut, I know it is George, I will explain” Cleo said looking around to make sure no one was watching them. Explain what, that you are communicating with George behind us, you went as far as storing his name on your phone as ‘baby’. Cleo are you mad, are you stupid, how could you do this to us, I thought we were sisters. You snatched George from Becky>>>Oh my God. Stop it, stop it now. I didn’t snatch him. George is my husband. We have been married for six years and we have two kids and they are in the United States. George never loved Becky, it was a contract signed by us to make Becky happy. She has never been loved by a man at her age and which was frustrating her. I and George had to give up some time to make her happy; we were paid the sum of 10million naira. It was an offer that we couldn’t just reject. It wasn’t my fault” Cleo said panting. What!!! Jesus Christ, I cant believe what am hearing. So why did he propose to her? Why did he allow her fall in love so deeply with him? Why did you sacrifice your friend’s happiness because of money? Why Cleo? Why?” Brenda said. I sacrificed my family, my love, my husband, for her happiness Brenda. I allowed my husband to sleep with her, to buy her a car, treat her as a lady, at least that’s what she always wanted” Cleo said. “God will punish you, you motherfucking bitch….(Becky storms out in anger and tears). I heard everything, there is no need pretending and lying. I heard everything. Watch out for next week’s episode of BEHIND SHADES… Please and Please, don't leave without commenting.. |

EPISODE 3: BEHIND SHADES Previously on BEHIND SHADES:My heart melted that instant, no man has ever done this to me, so I didn’t have any problem at all, and it is just a matter of time. Should I say no, or should I just make him beg a longer more before I accept. I would have to think about it because I don’t really know what to say now... Can I take you out for a date or something, so you could know me better? He asked me. If na you, wetin you go talk?, yes ohh. He left my office. I smiled all through the day, this is a testimony oh. According to my friends, Gods time is the best. George called me few days later, we both went out for a date. In fact my dressing was out of this world. I called one of my designers to design something unique. He couldn't take his eyes off me. “do you have an answer for me now?” he asked again. I wasn't expecting that kind of question so soon. My friends do tell me that, once you keep a man on hold for too long, he would move his eyes elsewhere without thinking. Let that not happen to me, I just have to say yes. Yes, I told him. He was so happy, his smile was so beautiful. I hope this one wont break my heart. George and Becky became so fond of each other that they couldn't do without seeing each other in a day. It was already a year down the relationship. Everything was going on well. Until…. George cuddled her so tight as they listened to Brandy’s Fall at the background. When are we going to take this to the next level? She asked him. He paused, sat up and looked at her in a big surprise. “what do you mean by taking this to the next level”? he replied. Ahh Ahh haba, stop pretending like you don’t know what I mean by next level. We are getting older by the day and I feel its right if we just get married. Baby, I want to spend the rest of my life with you”Becky said softly. “I thought we said we are going to take things slowly, lets do this my way” he replied. Don’t you want to get married to me, am I not good enough, why are you taking so long?” Becky asked with a cracked voice, about to shed tears. “it Is not like that, there is time for everything, now its time for me to show you that love every woman deserves. Its time to show you off to the world as my girl.” He said, smoothed her face with his palms. “I want to be showed off as your wife and not your girl” she walked out of the room in anger. The next day she was with her friends as usual in her compound. The gate man brought in a young man to her, he introduced himself as a parcel delivery man and that he has a parcel for her. She collected the parcel, opened it and saw a note and a diamond ring in it. The letter read; “I have kept it since, waiting for an appropriate day for me to ask this big question. Becky, ever since I met you, you gave me a whole new life, you changed my life for good. I am grateful to meet an angel like you, please forgive me if I have kept you waiting this long. I love you and I am asking you on my knees to please marry me”. She screamed with a great surprise and tears in her eyes. A car painted in pink and “Please be my bride’written all over it.” drove into the compound. Becky’s heart was literary in her mouth. Her friends were all full of smiles. This was a big shock to her. After so many years finally, she found love again. It was the day fixed for the engagement party, everyone gathered with Becky. She was so beautiful that night. Everyone waited for George to show up, but he didn’t, 9pm passed, 10 passed, 12am passed. His numbers were all out of reach, his office said he wasn’t there and he had left since afternoon. Becky, who was now on the ground was crying bitterly, what if he was dead on his way here? She thought to herself. Where is George? Where is my fiancee?. Everyone left the engagement party in disappointment. She cried uncontrollably. Watch this space for the next Episode of Behind Shades.

Nairaland / General / APC Insist On Use Of Card Reader 2015 Polls by Donperfecter(m): 1:53am On Feb 14, 2015 |
APC insists on use of card readers for 2015 polls 2015-02-13 22:25 Abuja - The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure the integrity of the forthcoming general elections through the use of the card reader machine to authenticate the genuiness of voters. This is contained in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Friday and signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Oorganisation, Malam Garba Shehu. According to the statement, INEC’s decision to use card-readers is borne out of the need to ensure electoral transparency and integrity. Also read: APC promises improved healthcare delivery "We insist on the use of Card Readers for authenticating the propriety of the Permanent Voter Cards. "These, in our estimation as a credible party, remain the irreducible minimum that must form the basis for the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections on March 28 and April 11. "Aside the huge financial investment involved in the procurement of the Card Readers, the desire to hoodwink the Nigerian people on this anti-rigging device, is not just subterranean but an affront on the independence of the electoral body.'' The statement also said that based on the recent ruling of a Federal High Court in Sokoto against the use of soldiers for election duties, APC was opposed to the use of soldiers for the elections. - NAN |

Nairaland / General / Nigeria Military Needs Greater Resolve Vs Boko Haram by Donperfecter(m): 1:12am On Feb 14, 2015 |
UN: Nigeria military needs 'greater resolve' vs. Boko Haram 2015-02-13 21:13 Abuja - The United Nations special representative for West Africa says Nigeria's military needs to show "greater resolve" in the widening fight against the extremist group Boko Haram. Mohammed Ibn Chambas told reporters Friday, "I think we all expect more from the Nigerian military." His comments come after suspected Boko Haram militants staged their first attack in Chad. Also read: Boko Haram regroups for new Maiduguri Attack Chambas says he hopes Nigeria will unite around fighting Boko Haram after presidential and legislative elections, delayed until March 28. A multinational force to fight Boko Haram that also includes Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin is expected to be formally launched in coming weeks with about 8,700 troops. The force is expected to look to the U.N. Security Council for help in financing, but Chambas says he has heard no estimate of the cost. |
Nairaland / General / Boko Haram Regroups For Maiduguri Attacks by Donperfecter(m): 1:04am On Feb 14, 2015 |
Boko Haram regroups for new Maiduguri Attack By: Peregrino Brimah 2015-02-10 17:26 ENDS has received credible information that after their defeat today in the hands of the Civilian-JTF and Nigerian army at Dalwa and Mafa, Boko Haram insurgents have regrouped to strike Maiduguri, capital of Borno again immediately. SaharaReporters and NewsRescue late last week reported on Boko Haram's forces gathering to strike Maiduguri. Nigeria's army did not take an offensive posture. This is perturbing. Maiduguri residents and the Nigerian army are advised strongly to be on full alert and prepared for the second leg of the war. It is hoped that this time the air force will go now and strike Boko Haram formations and not assume a defensive posture as has always been the case under the army command of CDS Alex Badeh and COAS Kenneth Minimah. In today's attacks the Civilian-JTF got all the praise for gathering in their thousands (totaling over 30,000) and being the determinant force that blocked the Boko Haram invasion. Borno state governor Shettima has commended the brave and patriotic youth. Also read: The origins of Boko Haram While Civilian-JTF fighters from Gidari-Polo were stopped by the military from crossing the trenches around Maiduguri at Gidari in pursuit of Boko Haram fleeing terrorists, the Civilian-JTF volunteers from Gwange did not heed the advice of the military and over 2000 volunteers armed with local guns and swords crossed the trenches in pursuit of Boko Haram terrorists, killing many and capturing three while also capturing and destroying several APCs and other lethal weapons of the terrorists. We ask, why is the Nigerian military aggressively maintaining a defensive posture; always allowing the terrorist the advantage of coordinated attacks, in spite of adequate warning and visual sightings of terrorist formations? Locals have mentioned that the Chadian forces have the same weapons as the Nigerian army yet are able to decisively defeat Boko Haram insurgents in coordinated land and air attacks. Jonathan Fails to Praise, Support Civilian- JTF It is quite disturbing that for the three years of the existence of the Civilian-JTF, who have undeniably been existential in the defense of communities in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe and environs and who have continued to make the ultimate sacrifice of laying down their lives to defend the integrity of Nigeria, the Jonathan presidency has failed to acknowledge, commend and support these brave patriots. Nigeria's Chief of Defense, Air Chief Alex Badeh in September of last year promised to convert them into a "professional fighting force," but far from this, the Civilians have not even been commended honorably by the Nigerian government, talk less supported. These brave patriots receive all the help they can get from locals and struggling organizations like ours. We solicit the Nigerian government immediately make available the funds for rehabilitation of the north raised last August to the affected people and the brave fighting youth. We also implore the Nigerian government immediately work through the army to safely arm these youth to defend their communities and wage decisive wars to defeat these terrorists who have continued to embarrass the nation and lead to unthinkable deaths and losses of property and livelihood in the billions of naira. The Civilian-JTF can and are doing more than helping. They have been the line between victory and total defeat. It is time to support them. |
Nairaland / General / Nigeria President Vows No Further Election Delays by Donperfecter(m): 12:49am On Feb 14, 2015 |
Nigeria president vows no further election delays 2015-02-13 22:25 Abuja - Nigerian President on Friday on Friday promised there would be no further vote delays, after the electoral agency pushed back the presidential and parliamentary polls by six weeks to May. "We will surely conduct elections as scheduled. We promise you. Communicate this to your homes that elections will be conducted as scheduled and on 29th of May, there will be an inauguration of a president of this country," he told the foreign envoys. Also read: UN: Nigeria military needs 'greater resolve' vs. Boko Haram The electoral agency INEC had on Saturday postponed the presidential and parliamentary elections earlier scheduled for February 14 to March 28, citing insurgency problems especially in northeast of the country. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also shifted state governorship and assembly elections from February 28 to April 11. The United Nations and the European Union have led a chorus of disapproval over the poll shift. Jonathan said that the six-week extension would give the security agencies time "to clean up" the three states Borno, Yobe and Adamawa that are mostly affected by an insurgency by Islamist Boko Haram militants. "If at all they cannot clean up the three states, at least two states will be recovered completely and more local governments recovered even from the remaining state. So that at least elections could be conducted," he stated. This period (of extension) will give them the opportunity to clean up the three states," said Jonathan. He boasted that Nigerian forces will recover "completely" territories being occupied by the insurgents in Adamawa and Yobe states. "And even in Borno state, the headquarters of Boko Haram, even if we don't take over completely, at least 70 percent of that state should be free for elections to be conducted," he said. Troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon are joining Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram Islamists. Boko Haram has stepped up attacks since Nigeria's neighbours decided last month to muster a 7,500-strong five-country force to take on the extremists. The planned contingent was later boosted to 8,700. Boko Haram rebels carried out their first attack Friday inside neighbouring Chad, targeting a village on the shores of Lake Chad as part of a widening insurgency that has now sucked in four countries. Boko Haram, which already controls vast swathes of northeast Nigeria, has ramped up its bloody, six-year insurgency in the past few months. The conflict has killed more than 13,000 since 2009 and become an increasing regional threat. |
Nairaland / General / Boko Haram Attacks Spike As Nigeria Vote Looms by Donperfecter(m): 7:24pm On Feb 02, 2015 |
Lagos - Nigeria on Monday braced for fresh Boko Haram attacks ahead of this month's elections, with the key city of Maiduguri in the firing line and forces from Chad and Cameroon joining the regional fight. A weekend of violence saw the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, hit for the second Sunday in a row, but Nigerian Army soldiers, helped by civilian vigilantes, managed to keep the militants at bay. The border town of Gamboru, on Borno's eastern fringe, meanwhile was pounded by artillery fire and from the air by Chadian jets, as troops massed in Cameroon for a possible ground offensive. The increase in both militant and military activity reflects growing fears over the Islamists' threat to regional security and crucial elections scheduled for 14 February. Security analysts believe Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram, will likely be hit again before polling day, given its symbolism for the group and because it would undermine the vote, which it sees as "un-Islamic". "The insurgents had long denounced elections as a pagan practice incompatible with the Islamic state and they had vowed they would never allow democracy to thrive in the region," said Nnamdi Obasi, from the International Crisis Group. "So, it was predictable they would step up attacks to pre-empt the coming elections, particularly in Maiduguri, and we may not have seen the end yet," he told AFP. Regional force Boko Haram was founded in 2002 in Maiduguri, which is currently home to hundreds of thousands of people displaced by violence elsewhere in Nigeria's far northeast in the last six years. The militants are in control of most of the state and have effectively surrounded the city, which is seen as one of the few places left in Borno where voting could feasibly still take place. Turn-out could be affected if large numbers desert the city, which with other areas in the northeast is a main opposition stronghold. Capturing Maiduguri would not only be a morale-booster for the rebels but also likely sink President Goodluck Jonathan's re-election bid once and for all, said Obasi. Chad's offensive comes after the African Union and United Nations last week backed a new 7 500-strong, five-nation force to tackle Boko Haram. Nigeria's military maintains that N'Djamena's involvement is part of the existing agreement with Chad and Niger for their troops to assist in the counter-insurgency. Chad and Niger had withdrawn their troops from the multi-national base at Baga, in northern Borno, last year, leaving only Nigerian soldiers to defend the town when it was attacked on 3 January. That led some to assume the existing force was dead in the water but the devastating strike on Baga, in which hundreds or more were feared killed, appears to have jolted it into action. Chadian jets last week bombed the Boko Haram-controlled town of Malam Fatori, near the border with Niger. Two fronts Jonathan, who has been criticised for failing to end the violence, could be hoping for a political bounce from any military successes in the tight election campaign, even at this late stage. But Mark Schroeder, from security and political analysts Stratfor, believes that allowing foreign forces to operate on Nigerian soil would be counter-productive to him and the country. "This is essentially absolving Nigeria of its long-standing geopolitical strength as the region's hegemon able to assist internal and pan-West African security stability," he said. Schroeder, the group's vice-president for Africa analysis, also considered Nigerian Army operations no more than "forays", adding that a sustained effort was needed to claw back territory. Boko Haram's attacks on Maiduguri may be designed to draw the Nigerian Army to defend the city, allowing the group to mount strikes elsewhere in the northeast and defend eastern positions. Ryan Cummings, chief Africa analyst at risk consultants Red24, suggested the last two strikes may have been preliminary tests of the city's defences. "Boko Haram is currently in its most advantageous tactical position to launch a large-scale offensive on Maiduguri, with the intent of actually capturing the city," he said. "This could be the preamble to such a push. I still remain sceptical as to whether Boko Haram has the resources to either capture or hold a city the size of Maiduguri. "But the sect may well be planning to give it a go. |

Nairaland / General / Pope Francis Stepped Down Shocking News by Donperfecter(m): 11:24am On Dec 21, 2014 |
Pope Francis shocked the Catholic world today announcing that he plans on stepping down from his position. Papal Resignation is extremely rare, and this will only be the 7th time in the history of the church. Pope Francis made his announcement from his balcony in Vatican City to thousand of shocked spectators. “I have come to the conclusion there is no God,” said Pope Francis, a man who has become known for his unorthodox views on the Catholic church. “I have dedicated my life to the church. Clearly, so many wasted years of unanswered prayers. I can no longer in good faith head the church anymore, as whatever spirit that had filled my heart is gone.” A shocked crowd of onlookers became extremely quiet as the Pontiff continued, many of whom openly wept. “I will stay on long enough for another Pope to be chosen, of course. I know many of you will be upset, but please be happy for me and my new life. I plan on spending my remaining years traveling, maybe finding a good woman and settling down. Hell, maybe even a good man. Who knows? It’s a new day, and I solemnly believe that everyone should choose to live their life the way they want. I wish you all the best and don’t let my decision stop you from believing in an imaginary God, if that’s what you want to do.” ”Pope Francis’ decision comes as no surprise to Vatican insiders, his hard-line stance on altar boy molestation, his generosity to the poor, and his blessing of gay marriage have made unpopular among priests of the church,” says Vatican reporter Francesco Rinaldi. “Some say the Pope was being blackmailed to step down by Church officials. Whatever the reason, most look forward to his departure so the Church can get back to business as usual – hating gays and bashing sinners.” Comments |
