Politics / The Grass Cutter And The 2019 Elections. by dontee2015(m): 10:45am On Feb 19, 2017
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation Engr. Babachir Lawal has set in motion the campaigns for the 2019 general elections and has declared the Presidential results already, effectively assuming the position of the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission. If you are confused, hear him “I assure you that by the grace of God, in the next one year, Nigeria will have a booming economy. The foundation being laid by the government is solid. And nobody, even after the president has finished his eight years, can ever take us back to the pre-2015 days." The new "INEC Chief” made this remarkable statement while addressing some pro-Buhari protesters at the Unity Fountain on the 14th of February 2017 under the aegis of the Citizens Group for Good Governance. What an ironic name! I hope they are enjoying the manifestation of good governance being served by the Buhari regime, most especially the 5000 naira bag of rice and 65 naira litre petrol. Hallelujah somebody!

Our SGF is so concerned about 2019 that he leaves his seat and numerous files awaiting his attention on his table at the Federal Secretariat to address those that might have been paid by him. This is a government that suppressed the 2face coordinated protest but has time for the Pro-Buhari protesters. The Bring Back Our Girls group which has embarked on a prolonged sit-out at the Unity Fountain has not had as much as a whiff of attention from Babachir. Rather, they've been harassed by the Army, the Police and the DSS.

But are we to blame Babachir? No. Babachir is not to blame but the man at the helm of affairs in Nigeria. The disposition of the Buhari government to impunity and corruption has emboldened the likes of Babachir Lawal to be so courageous as to kick start the campaigns for 2019 elections. Someone who should rather be at home, deposed from high office or facing prosecution for corruption. Lest we forget, this was the same person indicted by a Senate Committee on the mounting humanitarian crisis in the North East in its interim report. His company Rholavision Engineering Limited was awarded a contract worth the sum of Two Hundred and Twenty -Three Million Naira for the removal of the invasive plants species Komadagu from the Yobe water channels.

Apart from its over inflated price, Babachir Lawal was the Director of the company as at March 2016 when said contract was awarded, an action that contravenes the Public Procurement Act 2007 which bars Government officials, cronies, family members and close associates from benefiting from contracts awarded by the Government but as we all know this is a government of "Change" all these were violated by the SGF and he was asked to be removed from office by the Senate. Rather than accept the Senate’s recommendation, the President, who also doubles as the "Clearer in Chief", cleared him of wrong doings and accused the Senate of not giving him a fair hearing – an accusation that has been countered by Senator Sheu Sanni.

The action of the SGF is not only distasteful but shameful at the same time. Nigerians are passing through hard times under the Buhari led Government, standard of living has not improved and prices of commodities have shot up over 100%. What we should be hearing from the government are measures that have been put in place to alleviate the hardship and suffering. The Recession that was predicted to end by December 2016 by the Honourable Minister of Budget Senator Udo Udoma is still gaining strength, we are still haunted by insecurity and the last thing that should be heard in our polity are the drum beats of electioneering.

The President is sick at the moment and on his third medical vacation in two years; it's wicked for anyone to wish him beyond 2019 in office with his frail health. He deserves enough rest after 2019 as the statesman that he is, not the hassles of public office. But the likes of Babachir Lawal would want him to remain in power as long his interests are being protected.

It’s high time we called on the self-appointed "INEC chairman” to face governance and stop heating up the polity unnecessarily!

Politics / Ondo Youths Demand For 50% Of All Appointment In Akeredolu Government. by dontee2015(m): 11:03pm On Feb 14, 2017
Ondo youths demand for 50% of all appointment in Akeredolu government.

Youths all across the 18 local governments of Ondo State converged in Akure the state capital to discuss their expectations, required supports and commitments to the newly elected APC government in Ondo State. The youths who gathered for deliberation beyond party affiliations, as a mark of acceptance for the new leadership of Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu S.A.N come Feb. 24th 2017, agreed that a technocrat like Mr Akeredolu is very strategic to the general progress of the state, if genuinely, we want to take the state out of the present conditions, hence all hands must be on deck to ensure his success as he definitely cannot do it alone. The youth signified their full interest in participating in the government to add value to it, introduce new and creative ideas.

The youths who came under a banner which they called “Ondo State 50-50 campaign forum” with Mr Adebiyi Mayowa, an aspirant for Ondo State house of Assembly under the APC in 2015 and former president Adekunle Ajasin University Students Union, as the convener,  agree that in recent years, Ondo State has been engaging a good number of youth as commissioners and other critical appointments, and for the new government to prove a difference, it should be prepared especially now to appoint equal number of youth, especially people from the ages of 45 and below, as people of the older generation. The Nigerian society is fast evolving in a way that we have not witnessed before, there are new challenges and the new approaches are evolving on daily basis, hence a demand on the dynamism of those who have the ability to adapt faster to changes and bring out expected results within delegated time, and these are the youths. The state needs and equal blend of the two, the older and the new generation so that the progress of the state would be synergistic. The youths also will have the opportunity to sit in the same meeting with older persons, learn and take mentorship in the areas that require experience, also use their energies in the area where it is needed.

The meeting resolved in affirmation that their demand for 50% of all appointments is non-negotiable and it is in the general interest and the progress of Ondo State. They said it should be remembered that the youth contributed enormously to the emergence of the APC government in Ondo State and should not be pushed to the background.

An Amir is a Political, Military and Spiritual head of the Muslim Ummah.

It isn't a hereditary tittle as corrupted by the Gulf kingdoms.

Maybe you go and tell them in Kano and rewrite their history

So who is he?? A Pastor and Kano is a village??
Politics / Re: Emir Of Kano, The Northern Elite And Boko-haram. by dontee2015(m): 9:53am On Feb 13, 2017
The Problem in the North is a Tickling Time Bomb that will explode not so soon, Boko-Haram will be a child's play, the elite have their children in UK and US among others what did they give their wards? How many schools did Dangote built in Kano, how many schools did indimi built in Maiduguri, they only sponsor Quranic recitation and Hajj Pilgrimage! That's why the like of Elzakzaky hav large followers hip they want people to be doing ranka dede and Sanusi have seen the danger ahead if u go to the north u see mosques everywhere, no school. Kwankwaso as a governor was paying parents to enrol their wards and it was successful initially but later failed . The State of education in the North Is disastrous to say the least
Politics / Emir Of Kano, The Northern Elite And Boko-haram. by dontee2015(m): 5:33am On Feb 13, 2017
The Emir of Kano Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is no doubt one of the most powerful and respected traditional rulers from Northern Nigeria, being the leader of the Kano Emirate and also a first class king in Nigeria. Since his days at the Central Bank of Nigeria he has been vocal on national issues as needs arise. At the CBN he combined the work of an activist and CBN Governor together – a combination that led to his untimely exit from the Apex Bank due to his exposure of the mind boggling financial mismanagement of the Jonathan led government. As fate would have it, he ascended his father's throne following the passage of the late Emir Ado Bayero. Since his ascension not much has changed about him, he has been travelling the whole length of Nigeria and beyond as guest speaker at events and symposiums.

Of recent, the Emir has been speaking his mind on a burning issue which has been the concern of many Nigerians, to wit the rate of illiteracy in the North as it affects both sexes. UNESCO in its 2016 report described the region as the most educationally disadvantaged region in Nigeria, explaining that it will take years for the gap to be covered in the midst of the lingering Boko Haram Crisis with its attendant effect on educational enrolment in the region. The situation has degenerated to a level that some states in the North had to pay parents to send their children to school. The issue of illiteracy in the North is an irony to a discerning mind as the Northerners have ruled Nigeria more than any other region and it’s worthy of mention that the richest man in Nigeria Aliko Dangote is a Northerner. As a result, the educational backwardness of the region should not have happened in the first place but that will come to an end very soon.

In 2017 alone, the Emir has addressed the issue of low school enrolment on three consecutive occasions. On the 19th of January the emir spoke against the proliferation of mosques in the North declaring, “I’m just tired of people coming to me to say I want to build a new mosque. You know, we keep building mosques and our daughters are illiterate. So, my appeal is that if you really want to help Kano, don’t come to me with a request to build a N300 million mosque because I have enough mosques everywhere. And if I don’t have a mosque, I’ll build it myself. If you really want to help, go and educate a girl child in the village" His stance was also re-echoed on the 28th of January at FUTMINNA and 7th of February at a graduation event for teachers with Nigerian Certificate in Education sponsored by the Kano state Government.

However, the Emir of Kano may soon enter the bad books of Northern Elites who have prioritized the construction of mosques as a philanthropic gesture over the provision of education. A journey around any Northern state will prove the Emir right as what you see left, right and centre are places of worship; you find mosques in schools, on farms, at hospitals, petrol stations and markets.Mosques are needed for worship Same way schools are needed for intellectual Purposes. Some legislators in the North have even used erection of mosques as constituency projects! They've been using that to play the religious card and have left the welfare of the electorate unattended to. The individuals involved in massive construction of mosques have PhD and some are educationist so why can’t they expose their wards to Education?

Now that the emir is de-marketing their enterprise I know they won't enjoy his bitter truth. That an individual is ready to spend over 200 million naira on mosque construction instead of building school speaks a lot about the way of life of the Northern aristocracy.

Despite the mass construction of mosques in the North the region has not been immune to violence. From Kaduna to Yobe, to Borno, Adamawa to Kano, it's been all shades of violence and terrorist attacks. The Boko-Haram crisis started at a mosque led by Mohammed Yusuf in Borno state, as an ordinary movement which has turned out to be Nigeria’s worst nightmare with the North being the region most affected by activities of Boko-Haram insurgents. From 2009 till date over 100,000 Northerners have been killed in various attacks by the Boko-Haram sect, and even the Elites haven’t been spared. A Nigerian Civil war veteran, General Shuwa, was killed by Boko-Haram when he was observing his prayers, a former Minister of Mines and Power Alhaji Shettima Ali-Monguno was also kidnapped by Boko-Haram members and never remained the same till he died in the year 2016. In addition, when the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero was attacked by Boko-Haram, he survived the attack but his aides were not lucky. He never recovered from the shock till he died on the 6th of June 2014, the Chibok Girls are still in Boko-Haram captivity after 3 years.

As a result, the Emir’s calls must be followed with action as an initial step in stemming the tide of the Boko-Haram crisis, which is an after effect of the low level of education in the North. Schools must be built in addition to mosques to redeem the backwardness of the region academically.religion as a way of life must be encouraged to instill morality in people but not at the expense of Education. Education is not a sin and the Holy Quran chapter 96:1-5 lays emphasis on the importance of education for Muslims. The Northern Elites must support the Emir massively in his campaign against illiteracy by building schools and offering scholarships to the people. We've seen examples of people that achieve greatness in the North through education, such as Alhaji Abdulmutalab a successful Banker from the North who mentored The Emir of Kano in his banking career, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Jelani Aliyu, Justice Mariam Aloma Muktar, and Professor Attahiru Jega among others. They are embodiments of the merits of sound education.

Education must be made accessible to every Northerner!

Politics / The Road To February 6 by dontee2015(m): 5:26am On Feb 05, 2017
THE ROAD TO FEBRUARY 6
By this time Monday February 6 2017, the first major protest in 2017 will be shaking the four walls of Nigeria, from Lagos to Benue to Onitsha to Abuja. Nigerians will be united under one cause to call for redirection of this country, and what we are asking for is not much. According to the organizers Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE) and their major supporter Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known as 2face Idibia "It's a call for good governance, a call for urgent explanation into the reckless economic downturn nationwide, a call for nationwide protests as we say no to the Executive, no to Legislature, no to Judiciary…you have all failed us .We the people are tired. We can no longer continue with all of you. All your excuses and mistakes are not funny. We do not wish to continue with a system and government that is not working but afflicting the people. We the people of this country not living under the privileges of government allowances and remuneration have now accepted to take the bull by the horns to come out and protest these obnoxious and baseless policies and excuses of the government of the day. There’s need for Nigerians to rise against what is happening in this country, having waited patiently for the legislators that were elected to represent the people, all to no avail”

Since January 25th 2017 when the information was made public, there have been lots of opinions for and against the planned protest. Some say it's necessary while others think otherwise. In the words of the presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, those calling for the protest as those still suffering from the defeat of the 2015 Presidential election. I would like to remind Femi that the protest against this government started long ago from the Presidential villa by no other person than the wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari when she declared that this hardship and other ills of the Buhari led Government was not what her husband promised Nigerians and she wouldn’t be supporting Buhari come 2019, to which the President few days later replied, saying she belonged to “the kitchen, the living room and the Other room”. That was the first call for protest that wasn't honoured but this time around we are honouring the call for this protest. Martin Luther King said "our lives begins to end the day we become silent on things that matter" this protest is not about Buhari it's about Nigeria. Some individuals have resorted to attacking the personality of Mr Innocent idibia concerning his interest in the protest; they’ve forgotten how he was at the forefront of the Vote Not Fight campaign, one of the volunteer activities that birthed the Buhari Presidency. This Protest is about Nigeria.

This protest is about Shola a 400L Nigerian Medical student in the United Kingdom that dropped out of University due to the ban on forex for Nigerians studying abroad, this protest is about Oluchi, a Queen’s college student that can't afford an Always sanitary pad due to over 200% price increment, this is about the thousands of Nigerians that lost their jobs due to the current economic recession, this protest is about the thousands of souls lost to Fulani Herdsmen attacks across Nigeria, this protest is about the failure of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary put together. This protest is about Nigeria!

As expected the Government and its contractors have also launched a counter Protest to support the Policies of the Buhari government but it's evident that it's dead on arrival. Their actions however call for concern about the state of morality in our society. The suffering Nigerians are experiencing under this government is one that nobody is immune to. As a result, any effort to block the will of millions of Nigerians that are suffering will not stand as our voices must be heard from the North to the South to the East to the West.

The APC Government came to power on the heels of protests. When the party's registration was to be declined by INEC, Nigerians protested. When an attempt was made to prevent Buhari from contesting on the WAEC certificate saga Nigerians, protested for him; when the election was to be shifted Nigerians also protested to protect their mandate, so why is the government averse to seeing us protest?

In the words of Pastor Tunde Bakare a core Buharist "We are propelled by love for our nation, motivated by deep concern for the sufferings of our people, and driven by a desire to see this government succeed." That's the major reason why we are Protesting!

Politics / Growing Calls For Self Defence, An Indictment Of Government Ineffectiveness. by dontee2015(m): 7:13am On Jan 30, 2017
GROWING CALLS FOR SELF DEFENCE, AN INDICTMENT OF GOVERNMENT INEFFECTIVENESS.

“And I Told My People, I say Any Fulani Herdsmen you see Around You Kill Him, Yesterday she was talking I just kept Quiet, Because you know women there are Things you don’t tell Them and I've told them in the Church Here, Around This Premises that any Fulani Herdsman that Just enter By Mistake, Kill Him, Kill Him..Cut His Head” That was the Transcript of the sermon of Apostle Johnson Suleiman of Omega Fire Ministries while Ministering on the of 15th January 2017.That video have trend enough to garner over 50,000 Views on YouTube! As an Individual the Video is so distasteful and Unexpected of someone that calls Himself a Man of God who should be an Apostle of Peace and Grace and he has received lots of Backlash for that statement.

However moving from that sermon to what necessitated this Article is the Growing Calls for Self Defence in Nigeria and Government insensitivity to the Plight of Nigerians. The Muhammadu Buhari led Government of Nigeria have not helped matters with its approach towards crisis management in Nigeria. On the 22nd of July 2016 barely Few months after he was elected President Buhari made a statement in the United States while Answering Questions From a Journalist on how he is going to deal with the issues of Militancy in the Niger Delta, he said and I quote "Going by election Results, Constituencies that gave me 97% can't be treated equally with those that gave me 5%" this comment was the Beginning of the Division that Nigeria was to witness in months to come. This was the first Hate Statement that Nigerians Forgot to condemn and the result is what we are seeing till date. As if the statement resurrected the Spirit of discord in Nigeria, disturbances started happening left and Right from the Niger Delta Avengers to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Fulani Herdsmen. Between August 2015 till date the Fulani Herdsmen have killed more than 300Nigerians in various attacks across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, the Niger Delta Avengers have caused a loss of over 300Billion Naira through Acts of Bunkering and Vandalism in their Bid to Protest abandonment and Neglect of the Niger delta Area.

The Government Have not approached any of these issues with the required attention it's been more of Force Approach than Dialogue. To start with the President refused to make any Statement on the Atrocities of the Fulani Herdsmen until Late 2016.The Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed tries in Futility to exonerate the Fulani Herdsmen by saying Fulani Herdsmen also comes from Mauritius to Nigeria. A defence that met the brick wall. That same statement was re-echoed by Northern Governors Recently when they said Herdsmen causing Violence are From Senegal. From Enugu to Benue to Ekiti it's all cries of sorrows, tears and Blood. President Buhari as the Grand Patron of Miyetti Allah have not lived up to expectations in curtailing the Activities of his Fulani Brothers and People have been calling for self Defence when the Government have failed to Protect them so why will you Blame Apostle Johnson Suleiman? I’m not preaching hate but when you have no government that can defend and protect you, then you have to defend yourself with all you have.

As it that was not enough the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army that should be responsible for the Protection of Lives and Properties of Nigerians have killed lots of IPOB members the movement calling for the establishment of the Biafra Country out of Nigeria, since inception of the IPOB Movement They've not killed a single soul in their bid to get their country, they’ve not kidnapped Anyone they've only demanded for what they need through Protests and Rallies which are always Peaceful but made Bloody due to the Action of the Nigerian Army and Police. The Recent one Happened on the 20th of January while demonstrating in support of the United States President Mr Donald Trump. What was meant to be a celebration end up claiming lives. The Federal Government have not condemned the Unprofessional Activities of the Military and the Police.

The call for self determination in any Country is the right of the Citizens and its left to the Government to manage the situation and convince them on why the country should remain one. Their inabilities to do that have led to the Preventable loss of Life. In the United Kingdom, there were calls for the exit of Britain from the European Union the movement known as BREXIT was not accepted by Then British Prime Minister Mr David Cameron he campaigned against BREXIT but on the Long Run people voted for BREXIT and no single life was lost so why are IPOB members loosing life daily? And the Government have refused to do the needful by punishing those involved in the Extra-judicial murder of IPOB members. The IPOB declared recently on the 22nd of January that they will soon take up arms for self Defence against the Police and the Army. We all know the casualty that will be involved if this is done, the crisis in Southern Kaduna is another one that have not been well managed by the Government's which have also led to loss of life and destruction of Properties and People have been calling for self defence too in Kaduna especially the Christians. So what do we gain from having a Government in Place?

However we need to know that self defense and security challenge are intertwined. The case of Fulani herdsmen is a security challenge while the Niger delta Avengers is a case of self defence in a bid to protest the destruction of their environment and abandonment by Government when dialogue have failed to yield Results.

The Federal Government needs to rise up to the situation and see every Nigeria as one irrespective of their colour, Tribe and Religious Believe. The President cannot have the Votes of all Nigerians this is democracy and not military regime. The Protection of Lives and Properties of every Nigerian is the responsibility of the Government and there should be a robust avenue for Crisis Management from the North to the south to the East so as to guarantee a secure future for Nigeria. Trouble makers should be dealt with and not treated with kid gloves. The growing calls for self Defence have shown that Nigerians have no Hope and Trust in their Elected Leaders which shouldn't be and if this is not curtailed It spells doom for the Future of Nigeria! Self defence only happens in an environment where there are security challenges that are not addressed by the Government. Remember there cannot be calls for self defence in a peaceful environment.

The President must Protect and Defend every Nigeria from evil because he Belongs to everybody, he Belongs to Nobody!

Politics / Dalung's 80m Naira Project Monitoring Fund In 2017 Budget And Other Stories. by dontee2015(m): 5:26am On Jan 23, 2017
A CLOSER LOOK AT DALUNG’S 2017 BUDGET FOR NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Budget presentation by the Executive arm of government before the Parliament has become an annual ritual in Nigeria. On the day set aside for this auspicious occasion, the President addresses the joint sitting of both chambers of the National Assembly, and is expected to explain the performance of the budget in the year under review and the projections for the coming year. On the 14th of December 2016, President Buhari presented a budget of 7.298 Trillion naira to the National Assembly and the budget has been in the process of passage ever since. While waiting on the national assembly to do the needful on the budget, I will be doing an analysis of same with respect to the youth constituency.

Youths account for over 40% of Nigeria’s population, with ages ranging between 18 and 35 years. The Youth are the strength and future of every nation on the surface of the earth, and as such, their needs must be given priority. In Nigeria the youths are regarded as the future leaders, yet we do have a government without adequate representation of this key demographic, led by a president at the ripe old age of 74. Coming back to the subject of this article which aims to examine the budgetary provisions for Nigerian youths in the year 2017, I would have loved to start form the 2016 budget but I don't know which of the budgets to use: In 2016 alone, there was the Original Budget submitted to the National Assembly by the President, the Missing Budget from the National Assembly and the Padded Budget. Till today we don't know the one signed by the President. While we are still confused as to which one of these three was actually signed into law, more confusion stems from a statement attributed to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Solomon Dalung who declared that "The Funds spended in the 2016 budget were Properly spended” (Sic), despite the protests embarked upon last year by the Super Falcons over payment of their allowances. As a result we have to keep moving forward and not backward.

The 2017 budget for the ministry of Youth and Sports stipulates a total recurrent expenditure of 78.4 billion naira, while the capital expenditure is estimated at about N5Bn for both Youth and Sports. But our Focus is on the Youth Aspect of the Budget.

Dear readers, it's so evident that the 2017 budget for the Youth is a zero budget! Zero in the sense of its inability to set a clear-cut programme of innovation for our youths. Apart from the known rhetoric of buying computers and chairs and organising seminars, innovation in the ministry’s budget is zero. Let me walk you through what the budget has in stock for the youth in 2017.

A Counterpart Fund for youth development Programme in conjunction with UNIDO will gulp N30 million, while the National Youth Council’s (NYC) meetings will consume N50.15 million. The question begging an answer is, what has been the contribution of NYC to the lot of our teeming youth population asides being an arm of the ruling party. No single Youth out there can say for certain what NYC has achieved so far, nor how they are elected or selected. They don’t even have a website. The Current NYC President Ikenga Ugochinyere is an aide to the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki. The same NYC President was arrested by the DSS last year for criminal activity. A future leader indeed! Let’s move on, please.

Youth Internship Programmes in Private Organizations will account for N40 million. How that will be spent is anyone’s guess, as there are lots of Nigerians on internships in private organisations who haven’t received a dime from the FG. Youths in Agriculture will receive N200 million, while establishment of innovation hubs in selected universities across the six geopolitical zones will cost N35 million. Supply and installation of a digital mobile x-ray machine in Abuja will similarly cost N45 million, but when did the Ministry establish a Hospital? Dalung needs to tell us. Facilitation of ministerial appearances with analysts on social media, TV and radio will gulp a whopping N180 million It's high time every Nigerian got a licence for radio and TV so as to at least benefit from this largesse! And that ends it all. There is nothing significant about the budget.

This budget has shown that the Nigerian Youth should expect nothing from the Government in 2017, which is a pointer to the fact that the Muhammadu Buhari led Government is not ready to change anything, in contrast to its change mantra.

The same Ministry of Youth which has budgeted fictitious amounts of Money for phantom projects will be spending N22 million on “Staff education and enlightenment on the evil of corruption”. What an irony. They will likewise spend N80 million on the monitoring and evaluation of capital projects. That being the case, Dalung needs to tell us what grand projects his ministry has in Jupiter, that will require such fortune to oversee. As if that were not enough, the Ministry intends to spend 60 cool million on the National Youth and Sports Development Road Map, Dalung needs to explain to us how the 60m will be spent and how it will put food on our tables. I could go on and on listing the discrepancies and the zero status of the 2017 budget for the Nigerian Youth.

That being said, Nigerian youths seem likely to benefit from the Ministries of Power, Works and Housing, Nigeria Delta and Agriculture, with over 400Billion Naira budgeted for training of youths in vocational and other skills in federal colleges of Agriculture and Horticulture across the whole Federation.

That Solomon Dalung has overstayed his welcome is an understatement, but President Buhari sees nothing wrong with this square peg in a round hole as long as “The funds spended in the budget were properly spended"
May God have Mercy on Nigeria.

Politics / The Quest For Accountability In The North-east by dontee2015(m): 7:18am On Jan 16, 2017
THE QUEST FOR ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE NORTH-EAST

Thisday newspaper of 11th January, 2017 had on its front page the headline “FG Seeks 400million dollars bank loan to rebuild the North East”. The statement was made by the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative for North East, Lt. Gen Theophilus Danjuma, represented by the Deputy Chairman of the committee Alhaji Tijani Tusmah, while paying a visit to the Nigerian Air Force. He stated that the loan was needed to kick start the robust rebuilding of the ruins of the Northeastern Region of the country.

The North East (NE) Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria covers 280, 419km2, close to a third of Nigeria’s land mass. It comprises 6 states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. According to projections for 2011 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), these States have 13.5% (i.e. 23, 558, 674) of Nigeria’s population which is put at 173, 905, 439. In the past, the North East was renowned for its commerce and trade with prominent local enterprises and well established trade routes across the Sahara. It was known for its large agricultural potential, with 80% of its population engaged in farming and contributing significantly to the regional and national GDP, making the Zone a major contributor to national net food production.

The National Bureau of statistics in its 2010 reports shows that the North East of Nigeria has the worst socioeconomic conditions in the Country. Its average absolute poverty rate -- at 69.0% -- is above the national average (60.9%). This characterizes the Zone as having the highest rate of poverty in Nigeria. This condition has been made worse by the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect which has unleashed terror on the Zone. As a result, any step aimed at restoring the lost glory of the zone is a welcome development.

However, Nigeria is not known for financial accountability in its dealings and this malaise is already evident, threatening to scuttle developmental efforts in the region. To start with, in the month of October 2016, The Nigerian Senate approved the allocation of 3% of Value Added Tax (VAT) collected over the next ten years for the proposed North East Development Commission which is to be sited in Borno state. This step, however well intended, ought to be executed in complete transparency and probity, in order not to create another drain pipe as witnessed with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which can’t boast of 500 Completed Projects since its inception.

The Proposed 400m dollars fund is good on paper but its actualization and expenditure must be monitored, as no amount of money is too big to be stolen in Nigeria. Already, the same Presidential Initiative for North East for which the funds are meant, is alleged to have spent billions with nothing to show for it.

The President, in his October 26, 2016 letter of intent to the senate regarding the plan of the Federal Government to take a loan of 30 Billion Dollars, stated that of the 12 Billion Naira provided for this Initiative, less than 1.5 Billion was left as at October. The exact manner in which this money was expended remains unclear, as all we see are pictures of malnourished children in the IDP Camps, cases of diversion of food and drugs among others. Moreover, details of the Grass Cutting scandal involving the Secretary General of the Federation Babachir David Lawal are still fresh in our memory, so what was this money used for?

The freed Chibok girls will now be trained by an American businessman while billions of naira have been released to the north east by the Federal Government, State Government and private donors. So what exactly is the government’s approach and strategy to the question of region’s development? Should Nigerians be content with the idea of an American training less than 50 girls while numerous Government owned scholarship boards exist all over the North East?

What checks are in place to ensure that the 3% VAT proposed will be spent judiciously, to ensure 10 years don’t become 30 Years as we’ve seen in the non actualization of the Amnesty Program for the Niger Delta due to mismanagement of funds.

The situation of the North East is precarious and needs urgent attention; however in our bid to salvage the situation, accountability must come to the fore. The result of every naira spent on the region must be visible for us to see. The failure of NDDC has come to show that the development Process of the North East may end up being a job for the Boys. However this can be prevented through effective monitoring and compliance.

Politics / The Macabre Dance From The Delta by dontee2015(m): 7:37am On Jan 09, 2017
THE MACABRE DANCE FROM THE DELTA

On the 21st of December 2016 the Convicted Former Governor of Delta state Chief James Onanefe Ibori was released from London Prison after completing his 3year Jail Term. The jail term was slammed on him by a London judge in the year 2012 after being extradited to the UK in the year 2011. Prior to his conviction James Ibori was a Peoples man in his Home state of Delta and his Oghara community. Just as they say that Charity begins at home alike Ibori Prison walk also started from home sequel to a Petition filed by his Kinsmen Under the auspices of Delta State Elders and Stakeholders Forum ably led by revered Niger Delta Leader Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark. The Petition among others alleged that Ibori stole and mismanaged over 200 million dollars of funds that accrued to the state under his watch as the state Governor; he was alleged to have stolen part of the funds through cronies and family members.

He was later arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on charges of corruption in December 2007 under the Leadership of Nuhu Ribadu Assistant Commissioner of police as at that time. Ribadu himself later alleged that Ibori attempted to bribe him with fifteen million dollars cash packed in some Ghana Must Go Bags which he later deposited at the CBN as exhibit to nail him. Their effort was soon thwarted by a Federal High court sitting in Asaba on the 17th of December 2009. The court discharged and acquitted Ibori of all 170 count charges brought against him by the EFCC. On the long run the long arm of law caught up with this man that was once convicted of Credit card fraud in the United Kingdom before coming home to Govern Delta state. He was extradited to the United Kingdom in the year 2011 with support of the Goodluck Jonathan Led Federal Government of Nigeria and he has been “eating his beans” in the UK prison until his release on the 21st of December 2016.

Immediately he was released, his kinsmen the same kinsmen that wrote the earlier Petition that nailed him went into wide jubilations celebrating the release of their son from the Prison ,they’ve never seen the evil Perpetrated by Ibori as a collateral damage to their existence . Despite the recession in Nigeria Posters and Banners were Produced to welcome their son back Home, they threw Parties and some left the shores of Nigeria for London to celebrate Ibori among whom is Honorable Ndudi Elumelu another corrupt Politician from delta state that bungled the House of Representatives Power Probe when he was the chairman House committee on Power, he was later disgraced after investigation shows he has collected bribes and lots of other items from those he was Poised to Probe. Another Person is Senator Nwaoboshi a serving senator from Delta state that is also under EFCC Investigation for corruption allegations who flooded the social media with Pictures of his Visit to James Ibori in London.

This is so shameful considering the situation that led Ibori to prison. His friends have refused to show decorum and display of commonsense in their approach towards his release. In developed world the release of someone like Ibori from Prison would be a solemn moment for Ibori and his immediate family but Ibori friends have rubbed it on our face that corruption is a virtue worthy of celebrating but who are we to blame them it’s the representation of the degeneration in the society called Nigeria. Former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority Chief olabode George was also convicted on charges relating to corruption activities in October 20009 and was released on the 26th of February 2011 with lots of fanfare and celebrations. The Thanksgiving Service was even attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo who later declared he was tricked to attend the Ceremony due to the Backlash it received from the Public. Till today, we don’t know who “Tricked” Baba.

As a result, Ibori’s friends have not seen anything wrong in celebrating his release as they want to celebrate him like Bode George. I must at this Juncture Appreciate the lone voice of reason that have spoken against the macabre dance Ibori’s Friends have engaged in .The former Governor of Delta State Emmanuel Uduaghan have cautioned those celebrating him not to create more Problems for him through unbridled celebrations of his release.

This situation of Ibori’s friends and others calls for a general reflection of our Principles and values as a country and as a People. When we take time to celebrate those convicted for corruption then it calls for attention. A writer once said we have two types of corruption Moral Corruption and Financial Corruption declaring the Former as the worst of all.

The moral corruption of Ibori’s Friends calls for attention before it spreads to other incorruptible members of the society. Ibori should enjoy his freedom and seek the Face of God for a new Life.

Foreign Affairs / The Tale Of Two Brothers by dontee2015(m): 7:24am On Dec 27, 2016
THE TALE OF TWO BROTHERS
The month of December 2016 will continue to remain a remarkable and unforgettable one for two Individuals. The first person is his Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahaya A.J.J Jameh Babil Mansa. Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and Chief Custodian Of the sacred Constitution of the Gambia (don’t mind the Long Introduction ,That’s how he wants to be Addressed and his wish must be respected lol..) and the second person is His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama Executive President of Ghana. It will be remarkable for the two individuals whom I referred to as Brothers as they lost their re-election bid in their Country of Ghana and Gambia respectively.

President Yahaya Jameh have been in power since the 22nd of July 1994 through a military coup, he was later to be elected as Democratic President of Gambia in 1996. He was re-elected in the year 2001, 2006, and 2011 respectively. His last bid for the office this December was an exercise in futility as his opponent Adama Barrow defeated him in a resounding victory.on the other hand President John Mahama can be referred to as a child of circumstance, His case can be likened to that of Former President Goodluck Jonathan. He too never wanted to be President of Ghana his aim was to serve his boss as the Vice President of Ghana but fate played a fast one on him as his boss late President John Atta Mills succumbed to the cold hands of Death after a prolonged battle with a terminal Disease. Immediately this unfortunate event happened then Vice President Dramani Mahama was sworn in as the President of Ghana and was elected as the President of Ghana after his Victory in the Presidential election held few years after but his second term bid was not that successful as he lost to Ghana’s main opposition Leader Nana Akufo Addo of the New Patriotic Party. Now we have two incumbent Presidents losing their re-election bid. John Mahama and Yahaya Jameh all within a spate of two weeks.

This is the first time Yahaya Jameh is losing an election since 1994.Though some of his past winnings have been marred by one controversy or the other. On the 2nd of December when collation was still ongoing President Jameh conceded defeat in an unexpected manner of an individual that many have seen as a life-long President like Brother Robert Mugabe but the Mugabe spirit in Jameh died the moment he conceded . In the phone exchange transcript between President Jameh and Adama Barrow (The President-Elect) he said the following and I quote “Hello Your Excellency President Elect Mr. Barrow am fine, I am calling you to wish you all the best. The Gambian People have spoken and I have no reason to contest the will of the Mighty Allah you are the elected President of the Gambia and I wish you all the best. I have no ill will and I wish you all the best” what a nice word from President Jameh! The whole word was caught unaware as there have been apprehension about what the man will do as news have been filtering everywhere earlier in the day that he is poised to lose the election but that singular action of him conceding changed People's view about Yahaya Jameh. immediately after that conceding, torrents of wishes and applause was given to Jameh on social media and from world Powers including USA , UK, FRANCE ,GERMANY just as Jameh did President John Mahama never waited for the Electoral commission to declare him looser before calling and conceding defeat to Nana Akufo Addo.

His decision was not a surprise as anyone following John Dramani Mahama will know he is not a power monger unlike his other brother Yahaya Jameh, Mahama have pre-occupied himself with the business of promoting the unity, existence and oneness of the Gold coast country which he also re-emphasized in his concession speech he said “Notwithstanding our diversity, religious faiths, ethnic Groups and Political affiliation. We have also recognized that we are all on the same side which is the side of Ghana and its progress” with that speech he joined his brother President Jameh on that high pedestal of African Statesmanship but something strange happened in the sense that it wasn’t expected or foresee by anyone. On the 9th of December 8days after President Jameh have conceded defeat in the election the Mugabe Spirit in him manifested and he rejected the result citing unacceptable abnormalities. Immediately the news was out I thought it was a joke or a form of prank but it soon became clear that the man of the moment have fallen from the High Pedestal of African Statesmanship he once attained few days earlier. Many people were disappointed but I was not.

Any close watcher of Yahaya Jameh will know his love for Power knows no bound from his flamboyant lifestyles and multiple Proclamation of laws all aimed towards making himself the most powerful man of Gambia. I was watching a Video recently on YouTube where he abused an interviewer during a Programme; he accused the man of looking at his mouth. That one had to apologise immediately to avoid facing the wrath of Mr. President. That’s who Jameh is.He has been around for 22years and I think God have been favourable enough to him enough. in his 51 years in the land of the living he has been a President for 22years but Jameh won’t have any of that he has filed a Petition with the Supreme court of Gambia to contest the result. The United Nation through its African Representative Mohammed Ibn Chambas has met with him ditto the ECOWAS but there is no end in sight as Jameh have refused to let go of his decision of not accepting defeat.

The Failure of the ECOWAS Team led by President Johnson Sir leaf which included President Mahama himself and President Muhammadu Buhari among others was evident as Jameh said he cannot be intimidated by the ECOWAS team because he is not a coward, the Last time I checked no one called him a coward, all they are asking for is the respect of the will and right of Gambians to chose who leads them. Consequently the African Union have directed all President of the Union to attend the inauguration of Adama Barrow in January 2017, How that will happen is what we are waiting for as Jameh is not ready to go. There are more than enough means of unseating him forcefully which may include a military Intervention but I will advise Brother Jameh to learn from Brother Mahama that have turned himself to a Peace Ambassador and face of Democracy In Africa .as Yahaya Jameh said in his concession Speech the People of Gambia have Spoken, he have no reason to contest the will of Almighty Allah! He shouldn't contest their will.

Literature/Writing Ads / When Champions Turn To Beggars by dontee2015(m): 12:31pm On Dec 19, 2016
WHEN CHAMPIONS TURN TO BEGGARS

Hear him... "Don’t forget that nobody even knew the team would emerge victorious. If we were confident they would emerge victorious, all the federation would have done is to plan for process of participation and entitlement” that’s Solomon Dalung the Man who took Buhari 6months to appoint as a Minister of Sports speaking on the inability of the federal Government to pay the Falcons.

On the 3rd of December 2016, the Nigeria Senior female football team the Super falcons won the 10th Africa women championship cup finals in Yaoundé Cameroon defeating their opponents the lioness of Cameroon. It is worthy of mention that Nigeria have won the cup 8th times out of the 10th edition held in the games. Few days later the victorious super falcons returned to Nigeria raising the banner of victory with lots of fanfare. But something Happened, the euphoria of their victory was cut short by no one else but their country Nigeria. That action made some of them ever regretting participating in the tournament. The entitlement and Allowances due to them were not Paid, in the words of Asisat oshoala one of the Playmaker of the team she described the situation as worrisome and embarrassing as the consistent habit of the NFF and the Ministry of sports in owing them their allowance and entitlements but despite the harsh conditions which these ladies were operating they still went ahead to win the tournament.

Since their return to Nigeria the President have not met the Victorious falcons to congratulate them on their Victory a sharp contrast to what exist during the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan were they were handsomely rewarded for their hard work, what a Change!

The recent order given by the Federal Government concerning their payments have not been carried out as none of the falcons have been paid, the payment is only existing on paper, it’s so shameful that these African champions had to take to the street before their legal entitlement is given to them. Its shameful for a nation that prides itself as the giant of Africa and more shameful for those shouting Change begins with me!

The man behind the mess we've been experiencing in the ministry of Sport over the last one year is still in office despite all the signs of incompetence trailing him, his tenure have been one mishap and Policy summersault over another. when Solomon Dalung was appointed as a minister his first task was to re awaken the long buried crisis of the Last NFF election between Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa, it took the intervention of FIFA that save the day for Amaju Pinnick.

As if that was not enough, the Nigeria Olympic team experienced all sorts of embarrassment from delayed flight to inability to pay hotel bills and other logistics payment , one of our athlete had to open a Gofundme account to finance herself to the Olympics and represent her country not even herself, the Opening parade of the Olympics was another pointer to the incompetency of the Minister of Sports as they had to wear a tracksuit for parade as their parade dress arrived late for their usage .the minister of sport was busy deceiving Nigerians that adequate preparations have been put in place but on the long run we got to see there is nothing on ground , the Preparation was so adequate according to Solomon Dalung View that Mikel Obi had to pay the Hotel bills of their team and a Japanese doctor had to foot part of their bills and render other Financial Assistance to the Team after the Olympics, Hmmm so adequate indeed.

In sharp contrast to how the Federal Government o Nigeria have handled th Falcons, The Senior women national football team of Cameroon that came second in the tournament were hosted and honoured at the Presidential Palace of their country by President Paul Biya and the First Lady, the environment was so conducive and accommodating for the girls ,the President had to do away with Protocols as he was seeing taking selfies with the girls, and talking to each one of them same as the first lady .the Lioness of Cameroon never won the AWCON like Nigeria but they’ve been honoured by their country that’s how to treat heroes and champions, in the words of President Biya he said “ you may not have won the final but you have managed to win our hearts and encourage our administration” that’s a country whose leaders hold its People in high esteem. The lioness never had to protest to get what belongs to them they never had to lock themselves up in hotel before they were given what rightfully belongs to them unlike the way we treated our own .

Heroes and Champions have not been given their rightful place in Nigeria both sportsmen and non sportsmen. the later life of Rashidi yekini the man who scored our first world cup goal was so embarrassing that he had to begged to survive ,there was even account of insanity about him and the family had nothing to take care of him ,he died and was buried like a nobody. it took the intervention of Nigeria’s senate President Dr Bukola Saraki to renovate their house and give yekini’s mother a new lease of life, the case of Rashidi Yekini is one out of many the man that designed our national Flag Pa taiwo Akinkunmi had to come to who deserves to be a millionaire sometimes ago to raise money for his upkeep and health care when he has been abandoned by his country Thanks To MTN Nigeria for the Initiative . These two cases are one out of many of how those that have given all to Nigeria have received Nothing from Nigeria, in England we can see how David Beckham is being idolised, some Nigerians that played football the same time with David Beckham have disappeared into thin air today, there is no money and any other thing to boast of after giving their all to their country.

How do we tell upcoming generations to serve Nigeria with all their might when their heroes are not been rewarded for their good deeds? This shame has to stop, The Super Falcons are heroes, they are not beggars , they are not to be embarrassed and abused. They are to be honoured. President Buhari should meet these girls and Apologise to them for the way they were treated so as to repose confidence in them about the country called Nigeria. The Labour of Our Heroes shall never be in vain. Amen

Crime / A Note To Governor El-rufai by dontee2015(m): 6:33am On Dec 12, 2016
A NOTE TO GOVERNOR EL-RUFAI

Jean Claude juncker the President of European commission once said and I quote "We all know what to do, we just don’t know how to get re-elected after we’ve done it" that quote have summarized the sad state of Nigerian politics in particular, Politicians will come for campaigns, make promises and on the long run there won’t be anything to point out to as their major achievement. In contrast what will u say about those that know the right thing to do but they’ve refused to do it, this is the case of Governor Nasir Elrufai Executive Governor of Kaduna State. I’ve been a long standing admirer of Elrufai since his days as the Minister of FCT that was when he endeared himself to me and thousands of other admirers and it gives us hope that something good can still happen to Nigeria when we have the right hands in government.Despite all the challenge he had with the issue of demolition of illegal properties especially the one that led to a disagreement between him and Chief Tony Anenih he was unperturbed and he left the office head up high, after that he became a columnist with Thisday Newspaper and I was a constant reader and commentator under his articles then especially the Budget series he wrote about the 36 states of the Federation,as a result he was poised for greater exploits as the Governor of Kaduna state.

However, since assumption of office Elrufai have been embarking on some actions that is affecting the gains of development he want the state to achieve under his watch ,the Governor have Pre-occupied himself with things that could make him the worst Governor Kaduna ever had in recent years and that will cast a blithe on his shinning Curriculum Vitae. Kaduna as a state have been volatile and divided over the years with no sign of it been abated in recent years. From the Kaduna riot of 2000 that claimed over 3000 souls and displaced thousands to the 2012 riots now to the recent Shites- Army clash of December 2015. It's all Pointer to the Volatility of Kaduna. These riots and clashes are unforeseen circumstances that any Leader is expected to confront but the ability to manage it well is what distinguish the leader from someone prepared for Governance and someone not prepared.

The Army- Shites clash is one of the occurrences that have put Elrufai in the news for the wrong reasons recently, this unfortunate incidence accounts for casualties on the side of the Shites. The casualty was so much that some shites members were given Mass burial, immediately this event happened the leader of shites Sheikh Ibrahim Elzakzaky was arrested alongside his wife and detained by the DSS till this moment, a court of competent jurisdiction just granted them Bail but they are yet to enjoy the Bail, the Government of Kaduna state after the incident embarked on mass destruction of some properties belonging to the Shites from mosques to schools to houses on the basis of not having certificate of occupancy. As if that was not enough the Governor set up a panel of enquiry to look into the issue, the shites refused to appear but rather send their lawyer to the panel on the basis that they won’t appear before any panel until their leader is released , after sitting for over five weeks the Panel in its report indicted the Nigerian Army for complicity in the clash , the Governor also placed a ban on the activities of the shites which to me is commendable to forestall further breakdown of law and order .

However, the recent pronouncement of Kaduna State Government in which it labelled the shites group as insurgents calls for attention from well meaning, deep thinking Nigerians. The Shites Group according to reports has been in Kaduna for over 30 years and they have members across the country and across all Professions, they have schools, mosques, farms which show their seriousness about their religious dealings. I think Governor Elrufai should be Pragmatic in his approach towards curbing the excesses of these People. In the Build up to the 2015 elections Governor Elrufai and President Buhari visited Sheikh Elzakzaky Separately to seek for his support, so when did shites become Terrorist? Is anything happening behind the scene we are not privy to? cos this issue needs to be well monitored, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has already condemned the Governor on that decision labeling Shites as Insurgents and also the Borno Elders Forum alerted the President about the Veracity of Governor Elrufai decision Labelling them as Terrorist in relation to how the Boko Haram Crisis Started in Borno too. The Boko Haram sect also started like an Islamic movement but due to the mis-handling of their issues by Borno state Government it has become our worst Nightmare since 2009 till date killing over 20,000 Nigerians with attacks in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and other locations, we can’t afford to have the second Boko Haram from Kaduna state.

The Kaduna Preaching Regulations bill introduced by the Governor too have been another source of controversy in the state, the Governor have not been able to manage the issue successfully despite all his defence that it’s not targeted at any particular Organization it has been condemned by all religious bodies in the state both Christians and Muslims . the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria have dragged the Governor and some individuals before justice Hajara Gwadah of Kaduna state High court, urging the Court to declare the Bill Null and Void. This Bill has divided Kaduna more than it has ever been.

In the same vein, the Kaduna state Governor ongoing battle with senator Sheu Sanni which has led to the expulsion of the Senator from Kaduna APC is another endless battle the Governor have embarked on and the two sides have been throwing accusations at each other, just few days ago Senator Sheu Sanni office was attacked by Hoodlums and the Senator accuse the Governor that is expected to be the Chief Security Officer of the State as brain behind the attack

That Governor Elrufai is doing lots of wrongs and making himself unpopular by the day is not far- fetched as he hasn’t been able to promote the peace required in a volatile state like Kaduna. All this actions of his has beclouded other achievement he might be making in other sector of the state, it’s high time the Governor face the business of Governance and promote peace as expected of a Chief Executive Officer of a State, lots of Young Nigerian Youth are looking Up to him and he needs to make more friends than enemies, He was elected to work, He should work!

Business / The External Force by dontee2015(m): 6:22am On Dec 08, 2016
THE EXTERNAL FORCE
On my way to work yesterday morning, I received a message from God in the midst of my meditation about being successful and how to be one. The message came in two words EXTERNAL FORCE, I was confused initially until I got a deeper understanding of it by God himself. On getting to work I felt uncomfortable as I noticed this message is not for me alone but for everybody around me. Every human being is born to be successful but it’s been made impossible by that external force that is missing. In Physics we were taught about how an object will remain in the same place unless external Force acts on it. It’s the same as being successful. You might be in one place speaking in tongues, reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, Fasting, Ascending and Descending from Mountains, reading all the inspirational books of this Life, but until you get this external force you will remain in one position.

The external force I’m talking about must be an Human Being like you and not God nor the Holy Spirit, his life must keep pushing you to your success point ,it will be good if you can have a personal contact with this External Force either through social media communication, Emails or personal encounter, I once read of Pastor Biodun fatoyinbo experience with Dr Otabil Mensah a popular Ghanaian pastor ,he said he would travel by road from ilorin to Ghana to go and attend service in his church just to hear him speak, so that he can get that fire he needed and as at then he couldn't afford to travel by air when there is nothing on ground, today we know what God have turned COZA to.He was just that ordinary young man aiming for gold but today we all know who @BiodunFatoyinbo is and his achievement in his Ministry. I and my very good friend @emmacsi once attended a programme at Eko Hotel because we want to see @AkinAlabi and @JasonNjoku speak we struggled to gain entrance into the Hall and we stood all through but we end up getting what we needed. As a result each and every one of us needs to meet that external Force.
Do you have an external Force? If yes congratulations! If No get one. On your road to success an External Force is needed, you cannot walk alone!

Politics / The Audacity Of Corruption by dontee2015(m): 7:37am On Nov 28, 2016
THE AUDACITY OF CORRUPTION

John Dahlberg-Acton an English Catholic Historian, Politician and Writer in one of his Famous Quote stated as Follows “Power corrupts and absolute Power corrupts Absolutely Great Men are almost always bad Men”. This simple quote is a summary of the resultant effect of Power and the evil it breeds.

The word Corruption is one of the most searched words about Nigeria according to Google. And anyone familiar or not familiar with Nigeria will readily and hastily tells you something about Nigeria and that thing is Corruption. From time to time it has dominated our national discourse from Pre-Independence Nigeria till this moment and there is no sign of it being abated. The former British Prime Minister David Cameron was once caught on camera telling the Queen of England of how “Fantastically Corrupt’’ Nigeria is. This shows how bad corruption have destroyed our international reputation, The Transparency International in its yearly report for 2016 ranked Nigeria as the 136th in its corruption Perception Index scoring 26 out of a Possible 100 .

The most intriguing part of the Transparency International report was where it submitted That “five of the 10 most corrupt countries also rank among the 10 Least Peaceful places in the world” which means the Boko-Haram crisis and other uprising being witnessed in Nigeria today are the resultant effect of Corruption.

The Government of former President Obasanjo established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) but what these two agencies have been known for doing is being used by Politicians and Parties in Power for political Witch-hunt and Media –Trial. They now go after Yahoo Boys while those that stole the Treasury dry are walking freely on the streets and receiving one Chieftaincy title or the other and Bagging Honorary PHD!

Recently the former Chairman of House of Representative Appropriation Committee Honorable Abdulmumin Jibrin blew the whistle on the Corrupt Practices behind the approved and padded Nigeria 2016 budget and he got suspended for it. He is challenging his suspension in court at the moment. The Audacity of Corruption in Nigeria even made the Speaker Honorable Yakubu Dogara to deny ever knowing about Padding in an interview with the Media after paying a visit to President Buhari at the Villa and in act of I don’t give a damn accepted to have the right to add and delete from the budget few days later which is normal but not by inserting fictitious projects inside the Budget. Till today Dogara and other alleged members of the House of Representatives are walking freely and they are both members of the “CHANGE” Party (Dogara and Jibrin) one is ready for the change while the other is not ready.

As if that was not enough the House of Representatives under Dogara have spent a whooping #3.6Billion on Purchase of exotic cars when the country is currently on recession. The Deputy Chairman House committee on media and Public affairs Mr. Jonathan Gaza said they needed the cars for oversight functions and these same house of Representatives members have collected Car allowance and other allowances. The ongoing recession have prevented the Federal Government from Paying the much Publicised #5000 stipend to unemployed Nigerians but the recession have not prevented the House of Representatives Members from spending #3.6Billion on exotic Vehicles. That’s what Nigeria has become under Politicians with insatiable acquisition of wealth. It’s not about Political Parties, The Corruption blood flows in both APC and PDP.

The former Governor of Delta State James Ibori is currently serving a jail term in UK on Corruption allegations levelled against him, late DSP Alamieyeseigha finally got a Presidential Pardon from the Jonathan led Government among other PDP members tried for corrupt Practices. The APC members too have not been different. In the Lagos State controlled APC billions of Naira is spent annually as Pensions for former Governors and their Deputies and the minimum wage in Lagos is still #18,000. These Former Governors and their Deputies have more than enough money and Properties and paying them pensions is like pouring a cup of water into the ocean which is needless but the Corruption blood flowing in Nigeria politicians will not make them see reasons to stop the so called Pension. People that served the state for 35years don’t earn up to 500 thousand Naira as monthly Pension but Politicians that served for just 8years are earning millions as Pensions with Cars and MANSIONS.

In Edo state, another APC State the House of Assembly have just approved millions of Naira to build houses for former Governors and their Deputies when the Country is undergoing recession and funds are needed to be channelled into infrastructure. As we can see the blood of corruption flowing in Nigerian Politicians is same for PDP and APC. While we are still recovering from the news of the Edo pension for Political office Holders, Thisday Newspaper on the 19th of November 2016 reported that the APC Governor in Ogun state Ibikunle Amosun Billion Naira Mansion located at First Avenue in ibara Housing Estate of Abeokuta is nearing conclusion. To show the taste of His “Excellency’’ a leading Italian Construction Company Monterosa which is regarded as one of the most expensive building construction company in the Country is building the mansion for the Governor with the M.K.O Cap. What a wonderful stuff (in Falz Voice). Not only that the Governor Mansion has an underground bullet proof banquet hall that can sit 350 People and another Underground Car Park that can accommodate 50 Cars. All the appliances in this mansion are imported from Dubai, France and Italy. The Governor cannot even Patronise made in Nigeria appliances. Besides the Governor is targeting January 2017 for completion of the Mansion.

When I first read about the mansion I thoughts it’s a joke but till this moment of writing this article the Ogun state Government have not re-butted the News as its their practice . This is an admittance of the Truthfulness in the reportage by Thisday Newspaper. According to the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) The salaries and allowances for Governors for their Four Years and even eight years is not up to 5billlion Naira so where did Amosun get the Money to build his Multi Billion Naira Bullet Proof Mansion, I’m very sure EFCC won’t act on this news so far it’s not Fayose or a PDP Governor nor the Yahoo Boys or the MMM participants. This has gone to show how fake the anti-corruption campaign of Buhari and His Party is. Ogun state at the moment owes workers backlogs of salaries and Pension, even Members of the NLC and TUC that called for the strike have been suspended from their work but Mr. Governor is more interested in his Billion naira mansion. This is what I’ve been saying about the audacity of Corruption.

Nigeria Political leaders have stolen us dry and they are still stealing as they will never stop and this has damaged the reputation of our dear Country. It’s high time our Political leaders realize that they’ve done more evil than good to us as Nigerians and stop blaming us for the misdeeds of Nigeria. Let the Change begins with them and the citizens will follow Suit!

Politics / How Not To Be A Lagosian by dontee2015(m): 5:48am On Nov 21, 2016
Democracy as we all know is the government of the people by the people and for the people. It is the most acceptable form of governance in the whole world, as it’s a people centred form of government compared to military dictatorship and others. Lagos as a state is not an exception when it comes to having democratic leaders that have endeared themselves to Lagosians due to the dividends of democracy that they’ve churned out since the time of ‘Alhaji lateef Kayode Jakande to the present government of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

Though He had a shaky start with little skirmishes here and there, but he has won the heart of every Lagosians. Where will I start from? Is it the investment in security, light up Lagos, the Lagos response unit, construction of internal roads in Lagos among others, the whole General hospitals across Lagos are wearing a new look an example is the General Hospital Ikorodu that was completely renovated and equipped. The average waiting time in this Hospital is about 5mins for each patient; even the main opposition party in the state the PDP couldn’t hide their feelings about the dexterity of Ambode as they have commended the governor for justifying his election with his numerous achievements.

This however should not be a surprise as he said in his inaugural speech as follows “we will make Lagos work for you” and truly Lagos is working. However some people have started reversing the gains of these good deeds of the Lagos state Government. The rate at which some Lagosians have taken it upon themselves to be a clog in the wheel of progress calls for attention from the Government and all well meaning Lagosians, to buttress my point I will give some examples.

On a Wednesday evening I was returning back to Ikorodu from work what I saw at mile 12 was embarrassing. A man that would be in his early 30s was seen cutting a railing that was used as barricade along the mile12 Ikorodu road to say I was shocked was an understatement. He was there cutting the railings unhindered, not even the Presence of Police in the RRS vehicle Parked about few metres away from the spot could stop him, then I started thinking what could have happened to his mental capacity that the next thing he could think of was destroying a Public Property, the next morning on my way to work I met the place empty. The Railing is gone!

As if that was not enough the part of the barricade made of iron gauge that was installed at ketu under bridge late last month have been destroyed ,people now cross the road instead of using the Pedestrian bridge and Police officers and LASTMA officers did nothing to prevent people from crossing through the destroyed barricade, The newly constructed BRT Bus Stops In ketu/ojota have been defaced already even when construction work is still ongoing. In my street some items were removed by some unknown souls and rendered our new Transformer useless until the CDA Fixed it again, the removal of manholes from roads especially in Marina, Costain axis of Lagos is a common sight to behold, another example is the conversion of Ebutte-Ibeshe road roundabout to a mini shrine as all form of sacrifices are placed on the roundabout ,this was a road commissioned with fanfare by Former Governor Fashola, the newly constructed fence at ketu market too have been defaced with job vacancies and other inscriptions. I have countless examples that I see every day that even Lagosians know in their environment.

The effect of this is that we are slowing down the rate at which growth and development takes place in our Dear state .if government spend tax payers money on infrastructure and it got destroyed by citizens we are not punishing the governor, we are punishing ourselves and its making life unbearable, increasing the amounts of funds spent on maintenance which Could have been used to construct more.

I will like to call on all Lagosians to make protection of Public infrastructures our utmost responsibility, these infrastructures are built with our money and it shouldn’t be destroyed same way we won’t pray for anyone to destroy the house we build and I will also call on Government to prosecute suspected vandals as this will serve as a warning to intending ones. Lagos won’t experience progress if we keep destroying what belongs to us. Let’s Protect our Infrastructure. It’s ours.

And one more thing…

Badoo is still around!
The Name Badoo is the name of a Popular Nigerian Rapper Olamide Adedeji who is known for delivering his lyrical raps in Yoruba language but that name is now a name the inhabitants of Ikorodu town in Lagos State don’t want to hear. It all started last year in Ibeshe axis of Ikorodu when a man engaged in the act of Raping, Robbery and killing of unsuspected victims casualty started from 1 until its now over 30 and still counting, some have died in the Process why some were lucky to escape the evil he represents . since then the Ibeshe area have been so unsafe for citizens as some have relocated from the area because of Badoo .there was reprieve last year when news went round that Badoo was lynched by some residents of Ibeshe, what we don’t know is that It has evolved into a group of criminals as the name Badoo is still in everyone’s mouth.
On the 9th of November 2016 the Igbo-Agbowa community of Ikorodu that have been peaceful for years was thrown into confusion when we all woke up to the news of Badoo’s attack on some residents of the community the Victims escaped Death by whiskers but were badly injured in the attack . since that day everyone have been Living in the fear of the unknown , Shops now close earlier than usual as early as 8pm, some residents have resorted to buying dogs and other security materials .the Nigeria Police Force have been doing their Patrols from the day of the attack till now and combing the environment for suspects but this is not enough, we need the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi to step into this matter and prevent Ikorodu town from becoming a den of criminals, Ikorodu have had its fair share of Armed Robbery, Militancy Attack, Kidnapping and now Badoo from Last year till date. Ikorodu needs Government intervention in area of security. May God protect us all From Evil!!!

Education / Nigerian Youth In A Moment Of Recession by dontee2015(m): 10:00pm On Nov 06, 2016
NIGERIAN YOUTH IN A MOMENT OF RECESSION
Toyosi Ayeleso, Co-Founder of Csiredcarpetmedia in a tweet on the 10th of March 2016 tweeted as follows ’How do you convince upcoming generation that education is the key to success when they are surrounded by Poor Graduates and rich criminals’’ The Tweet was retweeted many times until it caught my eyes ,the tweet is a simple summary of How the Nigerian youth have been in Recession, the word Recession came to our national Consciousness recently due to the Poor state of Nigerian economy at the moment but unknown to many, Nigerian youth have been in this state before the economy joined them in the world of recession and it has become unabated.
The decline in thinking and innovation is on the increase especially in this century .youths no longer fancy education, innovation and they’ve stopped dreaming Big .Majority of people they see on a daily basis have made a mess of what should be the resultant effect of being educated . Youths nowadays are being influenced by the rich criminals they find on Instagram Facebook and other social media displaying money, gadgets, cars, expensive jewellery and others. These are people with no-known source of livelihood , Cross dressers, same sex advocates and corporate prostitutes have filled the air they all have one name they are "Business Men",a quick Google search of their name won’t show any business they owe ,they are good in posting fake motivational messages with their pictures which doesn’t relate to their lives ,They’ve continued to put the youths in recession as they are now appreciated better .
The good ones around them like Ayodele dada ,Ola Orekunrin, Adebola williams,Bayo omoboriowo, chude jideonwo, Tosyn Bucknor , Linda ikeji, the list is endless have never inspired them, they’ve seen them as too “BOOKISH” but unknown to them they are the people we need to get out of this mental recession we are currently experiencing ,Recently Mark Zuckerberg was in Nigeria, only few serious Nigerian Youths that are not experiencing recession saw something good in his visit as it serves as a wakeup call to what Youths can do for themselves the mention on social media was not as heavy as expected but when it comes to Bayo, Bobrisky and other people like the rich criminals on social media that have not added a GDP to the mental capacity of Nigerian Youth the likes, mentions and retweets are in thousands.
This calls for a moment of thinking and sober reflection ,Nigerian youths Must fight their way out of this recession ,we must be thinkers, readers, stand up to challenge, improve our Value added ability to the society, set goals and most importantly we should never loose our Focus ,All Nigerian are Born great Naturally and this greatness must be unearthed and put to use .Hence this mental recession may not end soon and as Chief Obasanjo Said in his Famous letter to Former President Good luck Jonathan “Before its too late’’ let’s do something
