That's not being smart, that's being wicked. Seems like a revenge plan for something they did in the past. If they were ordering more than you could pay for, stop them instantly. That's more decent than this.

Secondly, the people recording them were just being unnecessarily wicked too. It seems people derive joy from seeing others in difficult situations.

Finally, people should learn to eat as much as they can pay for when invited to lunch. We know the expression "invite to lunch" implies the person who invited the other is playing the host role (i.e. paying) but this is not the first time this kind of stuff is happening.
