A Georgia father was sentenced to 50 years in prison after he mixed antifreeze into his 18-day-old daughter's breastmilk in order to poison her.

Curtis Jack was arrested in October 2020, after his infant daughter, named Madison, became sick.

She tested positive for ethylene glycol — a chemical found in antifreeze.

Investigators found Jack had collected bottles of breastmilk from the child's mother two weeks earlier while she was in hospital after giving birth to their child, but did not want to pay child support after accidentally getting his co-worker pregnant.

After delivering the breastmilk to the child's grandmother, who was also caring for the woman's other daughter, the child became critically ill within 24 hours, suspected of being poisoned.

The jury found Jack guilty on all counts, including attempted murder, and he was sentenced to 50 years, with 40 years to serve in custody

Antifreeze even if consumed in tiny quantities is extremely toxic and can result in drowsiness, vomiting, kidney damage and death. The child's mother declined to make a statement following Jack's sentencing, but the little girl is said to be doing fine.

Two Nigerian brothers pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiring to sexually exploit teenage boys through sexual extortion, or "sextortion," two years after one such scheme led to a Michigan teenager's suicide.

Jordan DeMay was 17 years old when Samuel Ogoshi, 22, and his brother, Samson Ogoshi, 20, both of Nigeria, posed as a woman on Instagram using a hacked account and struck up a conversation with the teenager, ultimately blackmailing him into sending money and threatening him for more until he took his own life in March 2022.

"I don't know that there's any amount of justice good enough for what these two men did to Jordan," Jordan's father, John DeMay, told Fox News Digital. "But I do believe that there is justice in this plea deal … to some degree, I guess. But overall, it's just emotional. It's hard to believe that we're even in this situation."

He continued: "I hope these guilty pleas also bring a small measure of relief to the family of Jordan DeMay, who died as a result of this crime. Of course, the job is not done. The Ogoshi brothers await sentencing later this year, and we are still pursuing the extradition of the third defendant, Ezekiel Robert."

The Ogoshi brothers face a minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years for each charge of conspiracy to sexually exploit minors. An indictment against the two brothers alleged they were involved in hundreds of similar schemes – many involving minors.

The same night the Ogoshis started communicating with Jodan through Instagram, the teenager sent an explicit photo of himself to the account that he thought belonged to a woman. Samuel Ogoshi threatened to expose it and make it go "viral" online if Jordan did not immediately send money, prosecutors said. Jordan complied and sent the suspect money, but the crime only escalated from there as Ogoshi demanded more and more money from the 17-year-old.


The exchange went on for hours on a single night until Jordan told Ogoshi that he was going to kill himself.

"Good," he wrote. "Do that fast. Or I'll make you do it. I swear to God."

U.S. Attorney Mark Totten for the Western District of Michigan said in a Wednesday statement that the Ogoshis' "guilty pleas represent an extraordinary success in the prosecution of international sextortion."

Sextortion is a social media crime trend in which bad actors entice or solicit a minor to engage in sexual acts or send blackmail money, according to the FBI, which received more than 13,000 reports of online financial sextortion involving at least 12,600 victims between October 2021 and March 2023.

More than 800 predominantly Black female and non-binary actors have signed an open letter in solidarity with Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, who has been targeted with online racial abuse after the announcement of her casting in a new production of Romeo & Juliet.

It reads: “Too many times, Black performers – particularly Black actresses – are left to face the storm of online abuse after committing the crime of getting a job on their own.”

It comes after a statement by the Jamie Lloyd theatre company condemning the “barrage of deplorable racial abuse” that has been directed at Amewudah-Rivers and saying further harassment would be reported.

The abuse, the company – run by the director Jamie Lloyd – said, followed the announcement of the show’s cast including Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet and Tom Holland as Romeo.

Wednesday’s letter, which was organised by Enola Holmes actor Susan Wokoma and the writer Somalia Nonyé Seaton, stated: “When news of Francesca Amewudah-Rivers’ casting in Jamie Lloyd’s production of Romeo and Juliet was announced so many people celebrated and welcomed this news. Many of us took to social media to shower our baby sis with love and congratulations – a huge deal for someone so young in their career. A huge rising talent.

“But then what followed was a too familiar horror that many of us visible Black dark skinned performers have experienced. The racist and misogynistic abuse directed at such a sweet soul has been too much to bear. For a casting announcement of a play to ignite such twisted ugly abuse is truly embarrassing for those so empty and barren in their own lives that they must meddle in hateful abuse.”

The signatories welcomed the theatre company’s statement and said they hoped it would “extend to committed emotional support for Francesca on her journey with the production”.

Nicaragua has asked the UN's highest court to halt German weapons sales to Israel at the start of a landmark case

Germany is accused of breaching the UN genocide convention by sending military hardware to Israel and ceasing funding of the UN's aid agency.

Berlin rejects the claims and will present a defence to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Tuesday.

In 2023 some 30% of Israel's military equipment purchases came from Germany, totalling €300m ($326m; £257m).

The allegations build on a separate case taken by South Africa in January, where judges in the Hague ordered Israel to take "every possible measure" to avoid genocidal acts. The court also ordered Hamas to release all hostages taken from Israel during its 7 October attacks immediately.

Israel rejects accusations that it is engaging in genocidal acts in its campaign in Gaza, and has insisted it has the right to defend itself.

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has married his longtime partner, real estate agent Tim Malone, in a New York City wedding, a representative for Lemon confirmed to ABC News.

The couple is "thrilled" following their Saturday ceremony, the representative said.

After a phone call between Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken suggested there would be consequences if Israel did not heed U.S. demands on protecting civilians and admitting more humanitarian aid.

“If we don’t see the changes we need to see, there will be changes in our policy,” Blinken said.

Iran has asked the US to "step aside" as it prepares a response to the suspected Israeli attack on its consulate in Syria. The Iranian president's deputy chief of staff for political affairs revealed this on social media.

CNN reports that the US is on high alert and expects a "significant" response from Iran against Israeli or American targets in the region.

Hezbollah, Iran's main proxy in the Middle East, has also warned Israel that it is prepared for war.

While Iran has vowed to deliver a "slap" to Israel, it remains unclear whether the attack will be direct or through proxy groups like Hezbollah.
