noblemuk: @991, It didn't come cheap...writing the details would be writing an entire book. For the thousand or million others who didn't make it, if they press on they will eventually. In my case, i did attend the university but being educated does not exactly mean getting a university degree. I have achieved more by research especially via the internet, meeting, interacting and learning from other people more skilled and informed than I am in other parts of the world, having several sleepless nights learning new soft-wares and reading tons of books.
After 6months..didn't have enough money saved..in fact i had nothing but my skills fetched me little so i was never without money to feed. Just after then, i took up the task to help manage the construction of a small church of which a friend and i shared the 120k offered for the task whose duration was about 6months. while on that i met a friend who's father own a construction company i was opportune to be in a meeting with him where i offered free advice on a project of theirs..subsequently i helped them design the structural landscape of the BRT depot in Ketu free of charge and told him i had just registered a co. and would be glad if there are opportunities..long story short i met his father later in the month and my co was awarded a job (i guess in reward of my gestures) that made me my first million. Please note that even though i was hungry i didn't ask him for a job else that's what i would have gotten. For consulting, while others complain, i hlep find a unique way to solve flood problems in Lagos and not too many people do that. I ran both companies concurrently i used to be a one man army doing consulting and just put my house in order about 3 years ago, I once sent a letter to the Lagos state government on how a Mega project of theirs in Lekki-Epe Axis was prone to flooding by the Atlantic ocean and that caught their attention and was called upon to prove it. For real estate..i am investing along with other friends who are doing quite well. We are into property redevelopment. It wasn't easy i tell you. I guess that's where the supernatural counts.

honeyguy: i do have the same idea but still trying to find out how much it will cost to build and set up...i will also be including a multipurpose hall and night club...i got the lands but i do not want to start it if am not ready to seat down to monitor it

my brother you don't have to seat down and monitor your project if you are not a construction Engr, you may even waste more money if you try to do it yourself. that's the irony in construction. Artisans are very funny people and if you are not an engr, my brother you will waste a whole lot of money and time trying to work with these guys. just get an Engr that you can trust, all you need to do is come around the site in the evenings and see the work progress. you will get a quality job and save yourself time and stress too.

my dear be carefull how you share information online especially concerning finance.. anyways I will only give you a professional advice as a civil engr, the money you have can get your project to roofing level, but won't complete it because finishing and furnishing can take a whole lotof money. I think you should find some professionals in construction to talk to and also make your research on hotel management and how to run the biz. that will keep you on the right track. cheers

its a good thing that you are already thinking towards real estate.. its a very profitable source of income and gives security for the money you invest into it. however, i must also let you know that the return on investment is slow, although the hotel business will make it a little bit faster for you. i was wondering if you have any other steady source of income that will enable you support the construction stage and setting up of the business, if not, it will be advisable you set up a business that can give you steady returns and enable you carry on with your project successfully without financial hitches. but all the same, you have a great idea. stick to it if you have the means to support it.

I am 33 years of age. I followed these principles since i left the university in 2004 and i have been blessed.
I am a multimillionaire approaching the 100s.
I developed exception engineering consulting skills from school. Just after university i worked for 6 months but didn't think my life as an employee will be fulfilling even though i worked in an oil and gas consulting firm. I desired to build a business empire. I left my job after 6 months. I concentrated on building exceptional and rare skill in an area of engineering. I suffered some setbacks trusting too many people but i can assure you that these principles works for who ever is ready to work hard and smart...It is proven. I have friends who are just about 30-35 who have been able to make it close or cross the billion mark just following these principles. One thing i noticed in common is. We are hardworking, We follow the supernatural (for me, i am a christian), we are never scared to take on the big stuff..cos we see our selves as being able to do it. Finally. I grew up in the midst of abject poverty...So i think i am qualified to tell you these principles work.

Now let me analyze his points one by one.
1. You talk about having a skill but you did not talk about acquiring that skill. With our dilapidated and disfunctional educational system, how do you go acquiring a skill. As you pointed put even an MSC golfer is without skill.

2. Create a product? Really? What kind of product physical or digital products? Because in terms of physical products, you cannot compete with cheap imports, not with the high cost of production in Nigeria. When more established companies see closing down and moving their production overseas, you are talking about some small start up Guy producing. In terms of digital products it is possible to produce but you will have to contend with poor infrastructure like poor internet services, poor electricity and difficult online banking procedures.
3. Save? Now that is a joke in Nigeria. Do you know the cost of living in Nigeria? Staple foods like garri, beans, rice, bread have hit the ceiling, transport costs, house rents, school fees, medical expenses, etc have skyrocketed. PHCN bills are put of this world. Even the cost of pure water is high. Most people including the so called big me driving jeeps are unable to meet up with essential expenses and you are talking about saving. Maybe your parents are still taking care of your expenses.
Even if one is somehow able to save, the inflation rate of close to 12% yearly would wipe put your projected savings.

Invest wisely? That is too general. Invest in what, how much is required and how does one source the funds.

So you should understand the perculiarities of the nigerian economic system, you will not find it in any economic or motivational text book. Most successful business and businessmen in Nigeria rely on government.
