The security apparatus is carrying out a simulation exercise for evacuation and medical care in the possible event of a terrorist attack. Just some rehearsals and nothing to panic about. Hospitals were even told to keep 1 or 2 bed spaces in their emergencies empty as part of the activities.

Nono16:
Good morning house,
Pls I have a quick question. Would you recommend TVS or just regular pelvic uss? I have Pcos and my doctor is trying to do some infertility checks. I wouldn't like to waste money doing the 2, so I'll like to go for the most detailed one pls. Any comment will be appreciated pls. Echo scan in Abuja charges 5k for tvs as opposed to the 3k for pelvic uss(maybe it's more expensive cos it's better?).
Which of them did your doctor specifically request for? He'll have a reason for the request(s) since he knows your full history and examined you. TVS and abdominopelvic USS have their advantages, it all depends on what problem is being investigated. PCOS on it's own is a cause of infertility.
PoliticsRe: Commonwealth Doctors Condemn Buhari’s Medical Trip To London by DrAdonis(op): 2:41pm On Jun 08, 2016
Unnecessary trip. There're top ENT specialists in Nigeria and many of them are professors. They should have been called in to examine and treat the president.
PoliticsCommonwealth Doctors Condemn Buhari’s Medical Trip To London by DrAdonis(op): 7:01pm On Jun 07, 2016
Vice President, Commonwealth Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele Monday expressed disappointment at the news of President Muhammadu Buhari’s10-Day medical trip to London for an Ear, Nose and Throat, E.N.T, infection, saying, “it as a tragic blot on Nigeria’s collective professional and National image.” President Muhammadu Buhari The former President, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, who condemned frequent medical trip by government officials, said Nigeria has suffered a great loss to medical tourism in recent past. “I am very constrained to state that this foreign medical trip flies in the face of the Federal Government’s earlier declaration of her resolve to halt the embarrassing phenomenon of outward medical tourism, which as at the end of the year 2013 had led to a humongous capital flight of about $1billion dollars, particularly from expenses incurred by political and public office holders and their accompanying aides, whose foreign medical trips most of which are unnecessary, were financed with tax payers’ resources”, he said.
Osahon who advised the president Buhari to live by example at curbing medical tourism and saving Nigerians this great loss incurred through numerous trips abroad for medication stated that the President has lost a golden opportunity to assert his change mantra through a clear demonstration of leadership by example, by staying back to receive medical treatment in Nigeria. He added that receiving treatment in Nigeria would inspire confidence in the health sector which currently boasts of medical experts that favourably compare with medical experts anywhere in the world, if not better. “Mr. President should make a clear public pronouncement on his resolve to show leadership by example with respect to the utilization of the medical expertise and facilities that abound in Nigeria by him and other members of the Federal Executive Council, particularly in concrete expression of section 46 of the National Health Act which seeks to address the abuse of tax payers’ resources through frivolous foreign medical travels embarked upon by political and public office holders”.

He said: “It is on record that most public and political office holders who seek foreign medical care abroad are handled by Nigerian trained doctors in foreign lands particularly in the United Kingdom which has over 3000 Nigerian trained medical doctors, United States of America with over 5000 Nigerian trained medical doctors, amongst other foreign countries, most of whom left the shores of Nigeria on account of government’s perennial failure to address the various push and pull factors which have consistently driven this yearly brain drain phenomenon in Nigeria. “Available records show that last year alone, 637 medical doctors emigrated due largely to poor working conditions and health facilities, insecurity, unpredictable and poor funding of Residency Training Programme, uncompetitive wages and job dissatisfaction.” The former NMA president said; “Without prejudice to the expert recommendation of President’s Personal Physician and the ENT specialist said to have examined and treated him in Abuja, I consider it a national shame of immense proportions that Mr. President had to be recommended for foreign medical care despite the presence of over 250 ENT specialists and professors in Nigeria, as well as a National Ear Centre located in Kaduna state.

He recommended that the presidency should consider other options such as inviting a consortium of Nigerian trained ENT specialists in Nigeria to Abuja to re-evaluate and treat him. If it is determined that the medical expertise is not available in Nigeria, any identified Nigerian trained ENT specialist practicing anywhere in the world should be invited to Abuja for re-evaluating and treating him.
If it is a case where the health facilities/equipment are unavailable then the President should have used his current medical situation, though unfortunate, to commence the Federal Government’s plan to re-equip Nigerian hospitals with modern state-of-the art health facilities, by ordering for the needed medical equipment to enable the locally available Nigerian trained ENT specialists to attend to him, and thereafter use same facilities to attend to other Nigerians with similar conditions. “Indeed, it will be a win-win situation for Nigeria as Mr. President will not only get managed with the imported medical facilities and expertise; he would save Nigeria the capital flight that would result from his planned foreign medical trip.

Hmmmm wetin? Them knock your runs? cheesy cheesy cheesy
Haha...runs ke? Such an action has its pros and cons. I'm sure the move will ensure employment of more interns, residents and consultants which is needed, and it'll also reduce victimization and all such. The major thing I have against it is that it moves more power to the Centre and it should not be so. We should work towards building strong imstitutions that are independent of the fg.
The fg already has a lot to do already. ..
Laying down rules for the teaching hospitals to follow and metting out appropriate sanctions for noncompliance may have been better.

HealthRe: Health System Injustice In Nigeria: A Cry From A Broken Heart by DrAdonis:
As a doctor, I agree to most of what the graduate nurses are requesting for. There's no reason physiotherapists, optometrists or lab scientists should be placed above graduate nurses or why they should undergo internship with nurses being excluded.

Doctors, nurses and pharmacists are the CORE health professionals even though the doctor plays the central and cordinating role and sends the patient to get drugs from the pharmacists, get some care from the nurses amongst other things.

Those other health workers are ALLIED HEALTH PROFESIONALS and there's no logic as to why they should be placed above nurses. The nurses' requests should be considered in the interest of justice.

RomanceRe: He Is Threatening To Break My Sim Card Because Of My Ex. by DrAdonis: 1:28pm On Mar 15, 2016
kennygee:
I found out four months ago that my ex was cheating on me with his girlfriend who he lied to me about claiming to have ended the relationship. We parted ways amicably even though i loved him.
I am seeing someone else now and we're having issues because yesterday, my ex called me to tell me he was ill (really ill) so i went to see him after church to be sure he's ok.(his gf doesn't stay in abuja with him, she's in lagos) i cooked for him, he ate and i left. My boyfriend got angry when i told him and now he is mad at me and threatening to break my sim card. I think he is over reacting. What is wrong with being there for an ill person, is it bad because he is my ex? Everything i did, i did from the goodness of my heart, nothing more.
You really seem to be a good 'nurse'. I won't mind some 'nursing care' too smiley

No o! It's uni ilorin.
It's a well established fact that unilorin produces some of the best doctors in Nigeria and even more than half of doctors that trained there are in the diaspora.

Unilorin medical school has the first and only (as of few months ago) clinical skills laboratory in the country and that laboratory was described as revolutionary by the MDCN when they went for accreditation.

I am an alumnus of unilorin medical school and I have worked in a few places, National Hospital inclusive and it is palpable that I am better than a far far majority of my peers. This I say in all humility.

Wao, thanks for this enlightenment. Never knew this all this time. Now at what point is infection to human common? is it when the infected rat defecates on food, eat the food etc?
You're welcome, we are all learning. It's when the rats' faeces and urine contaminates food and such food is eaten. An infected person can also transmit the infection through his/her body fluids like blood, urine, vomitus etc
HealthRe: In Kaduna, Lassa Fever Kills Nurse, Pregnant Woman by DrAdonis: 9:51am On Mar 01, 2016
Saintp:
Are all rats carriers of the lassa virus? i ask because rats have been living with people since the beginning of times. If so, then more than 80% of families should have been infected now. i think there is more to these than we don't know
It's only multimammate rats that are vectors of lassa fever virus and it's not all multi mammate rats that are infected with the virus.

The natural habitat of these rats is bushy areas and they can always leave their natural habitat to households when there's any disturbance there (like bush burning).

So that explains why the prevalence is low.
