Lagusta: Hey docs, how u'all doing

The art and practice of medicine is a noble one, dating back since the time of man.... In fact, saving a life is like saving the whole of mankind!!!

Please, nobody should read medicine and surgery because of the money, prestige of being called "Dr. Something" or because u think u can hook a lot of babes with it. Go for it because u want to save a life, or u are doing it for God.

Don't mind the fact that u read another course before coming back for medicine.... In fact, there are a lot of pple overseas who had their Ph.D in the arts, but still came back for medicine, why? Because of the passion, the zeal, and the dexterity of the noble profession!!!

This is for those that read economics, engineering, etc.... Do not lose hope, you are highly welcome into the profession!!!

i'm into medicine for d pay and other attractive things due to pressure 4rm my parents. as for d zeal and passion attached mayb i wuld develop interest later:/

u are expected to hv paid ur school fees b4 oct 15, and also u are required to fill,download and print 2 copies of ur student information form,biodata form and payment acknwldgmnt receipt which wuld be used for d final enrollment of freshers at d multipurpose hall.

Kadata: Best moment was when the HOD of Physiology department told me that they'd take me on distinction viva during Part1 MBBS Exam. I was their only candidate. No one has ever got a Distinction in Physio before. During the viva, I answered all the questions correctly. The UNIBEN prof was obviously impressed.
Worst moment was when the Part 1 result was pasted finally. I only saw 'PASS' . I wanted to die. I didnt know what happpened. Well, shit happens in med school. Seriously, I nearly cried.

I guess u must hv felt on top of d world for acheiving such an uncontestable feat in UNIBEN.u need not to hv cried that much, lyf is unpredictable, we all hv our share of badluck.

Lagusta: My best moment was when I saw that our 500L result was out, and I passed, it was a big joy for me that I am now in final year....

I had two worst moments... I lost my mom in 2006, lost my dad in 2008, those nearly cost me my medical school, so I had to struggle to survive through the hectic hyperstuffilaemic environment!!!

i'm xo xo sorry abt dat.may their gentle souls rest in peace.AMEN!!! To be honest, the odds were definetly against u, but u didn't just sit back and watch life take its best shot at u, instead u rose up with d courage and zest of an overcomer. For u to be a final year student must hv taken u a gr8 level of discipline and perseverance,i so much admire that.

To all senior medical students on this thread, kindly share with us ur worst and best moments u experienced in ur indomitable quest to obtain dat prestigious MBBS degree.

Phoenix6278: Well, some of the texts needed for certain courses(FSC 104; maths FSC 103;computer science) will be provided by their respective departments. However, u can choose to supplement the 104 text provided with Engineering maths by K A stroud. I will recommend Raymond Chang Chemistry for FSC 103, Raven Johnson or Biological sciences for FSC 101, Invertebrate Zoology for ZLY 101, Nelkon and Parker A level / Physics for scientists and Engineers Jeweet and Serway for FSC 105. Class notes are VERY important (especially for ZLY101) as most lecturers don't go beyond what's given in the note , past questions are equally indispensable. Texts will also be provided for the GST courses and you will be given some practical manuals when you register some courses ( ZLY 101 and FSC 101). Hope I've been able to answer your question

yeah.thanks alot 4 answering my question.i hv some of those books already such as engineering maths,nelkon & parker phys,plus biological science. I wuld try to get d txt 4 ZLY 101 and d rest ASAP. Could i make use of cambridge Advanced chem and introductory maths as a supplement?

Yeah, admission process in Unilag is always rigorous, you guys were even lucky, the cut-off was 76 during my time. I thank God I made it though. Lol, Amen and amen by God's grace. Some guys made 5.0 GPA so its not a big deal. How far have you gone with clearance, that's one stressful process o

thnks i'm almost true with d clearance process.it remains only course registration and hostel application.our cutoff wz low dis yr due to d general low performance in jamb compared to urs. Pls can u recommend any textbk which i wuld definetly make use of in 100level.

ebsuguy: parkinson disease from the little av learnt...it is an inborn error of metabolism owing to the dopamine produce by the substangial negra of the brain not equalising the acetylcholine at the muscle end plates....hence the individual have motor movement problem....*i heard una 1st lady get am*....atelactasis or patchy atelactasis...what i know is dat it is the collapse of the lungs owing to the alveoli type 2 cells unable to produce surfactant which prevents the alveoli from collapsing....beractant can be administered to help a little....i think dat is the little i know from medical biochemistry and resipatroy physiology...sorry i dont know much am stimm in pre-clinicals...EBSU CHS...

Yap, dat's correct!!! Thnks. Do u also know that most babies born prematurely are at risk of being deficient in surfactant.because it is produced in d foetus at abt 23 wks old and therefore premature babies suffer from high surface tension in d alveoli.

Phoenix6278: Nah CGPA ain't required, but at times, u wud really wish it was required. ♏ on a 4.82 GPA (first semester) yet ♏ not certain I will cross, its this semester's result that will determine.
Courses are grouped into Physicals, Chemicals and Biologicals, and a cumulative average of 50 is required in each group to cross to Idi-Araba. Just work hard and try to score as high as you can in each course as the grading system of A, B, C, D ...... Is pretty useless in our case. CONCENTRATE more on the physicals, that's where most students falter. Don't worry, you will be given orientation when u resume. You are free to ask me any question, hopefully, I'll be able to answer. Congrats on ur admission o, pop enough champagne o, its not easy

thanks, yeah we need to pop champagne,but dat will be sm oda tym.it wasn't easy at all to beat d cutoff,it went thru hell...thank God i made it thru dat rigorous admissn process even though it wz my first attempt at JAMB.as for the physicals,that won't be any problem by God's grace.ur CGPA of 4.82 is totally impresive,i'm sure u'll cross over nxt semester.
