I 'd like to correct the wrong impression some people have about ONIGBINDE as to conclude that he failed. Coach Adeboye Onigbinde didn't fail in his tenure as Coach of the Super Eagles. The players he took to the World Cup were the best NIGERIA had as at that time. Those who were excluded know the reasons why they were left out. For the records, OLISEH and FINIDI missed out due to disciplinary issues. No matter how good/talented a footballer is, if he's undisciplined, he could be a minus to the team. AIYEGBENI was excluded from the World Cup party in 2002 because he just had an eye surgery and the Coach felt it won't be good to risk him. VICTOR AGALI refused to show up in camp in protest at the punishment meted out to OLISEH and FINIDI. I can go on and on to give you specific reasons why certain players were not at the 2002 soccer mundial. So take it from me: the guys that featured for NIGERIA were the best (in terms of passion and character) that NIGERIA had at that point in time. And it is noteworthy that subsequent coaches after ONIGBINDE have not deemed it fit to invite OLISEH, FINIDI GEORGE and AGALI (plus other established footballers who were left out) in Super Eagles engagements after the World Cup. Are we to conclude that the affected players suddenly went 'bad' after the World Cup? No one was even clamouring for their recall unlike when OKOCHA retired from International football. The same fiasco of 2002 is dogging OLISEH's aspirations to coach any of the National teams. Few have forgotten the events of 2002

Football is not played based on past statistics, otherwise the likes of YEKINI should still be in the team. Football is played based on current form. Same applies to the coach. When a coach can no longer grind out results, then he/she is approaching his/her sell by date. Lots of people have pooh-poohed AMODU's tactics at ANC 2010, and it is noteworthy that complaints against him arose even before the ANC.
