OK, here is my analysis of SE after ANC.

In the ANC:

Vs Egpyt: Had a good first half, was completely destroyed in the second half. Correct

Vs Benin: Was OK performance, they did not dominate neither were they dominated. The Beniniose had 2 good chances on goal that I really could not blame anybody for intensely, just good play by Benin. But by and large, Nigeria had more chances. They dominated our boys for larger chunks of the game . . .or did u have some whores caressing u all thru the match ?

Vs Mozambique: Their best football of the tournament and it was very good. only the fact that they were scoring goals that day made it any good, they played beta footie against Ghana

Vs Zambia: Was not a particularly good performance, very negative attack-wise but were not dominated until Apam got sent off. Like Benin, they were playing a team with not much to lose, hence the small team played fairlessly whilst SE were playing under tension. Zambia outclassed the super chickens, no doubt, no controversy !


Vs Ghana: Dominated completely. Their most creative game but yet did not bury their chances. Ghana had one from a set piece and then just defended till the end of the game. That was the fear I was having would happen against Zambia. For how long were we going to push our luck, we never were good enuff the compeition-long


Vs Algeria: They were the better team and were more relaxed in their play as they had not much to lose anymore. Correct

Overall played 3 games well (Moz, Algeria, Ghana), 2 were so-so (Benin, Zambia) and vs Egpyt were horrible. Strictly ur opinion

The team played with limited creativity, lacked attacking will in half of their games and were boring to death in some games (especially Zambia, the game had more potency than valium). So u self see am, helep us ask Amodu o . . .


The problems with the team:

- The have no forward propulsion and seem to only want to pass backwards.
- No creativity.
- Bar Odems, no one wants to take on defenders. And even Odems game fell off in the Zambia and Ghana game.
- The players are just too average
- There was no variation of tactics
- Poor on set pieces bar when they use Shittu ALL CORRECT

This said, I think a lot of this is not restricted to Nigeria. This is the most boring ANC I have seen EVER. Bar when Egpyt is playing, most matches were just boring. It was a poor display of African football at its best.

I think the technical team were poorer than they were in the WCQs. The team was less attacking and very much less confident at the ANC. I would attribute majority of the cause to the unbelievable pressure they were under and lack of creativity in the team. It seems no player wanted to be at fault for losing the ball and all they did was pass backwards. But at the end of the day, the responsibility for this falls to the technical bench. The worked well on the hunger after the Egypt game as the players hustled when they lose the ball but they played like frightened nationals of a dictator country. THANK GOD U HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT, CAN U NOW CHANGE THE TITLE OF THE THREAD ?

But I cannot excuse the mooooronic and stuuupid Nigerian journalists, as they played a key role in demoralising the players. It is very hard for players AND management to deliver when there is constant, vicious rumours about how someone would be sacked. The mooorons take a large share of the blame. If Arsenal are to keep their title hopes alive, they need a result against Chelsea on Saturday. Not only to get points on the board, but to prove to themselves that they have what it takes to be champions.

Belief seems to melt away from this Arsenal side when confronted by the big boys. Since last season’s Champions League semi-final when they went out to Manchester United without a bang, there has been plenty of whimpering - not least when Chelsea brushed aside the Gunners last time they met in a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the Emirates.

If Saturday’s game and the season's remainder are to be less painful for Arsenal, then Arsene Wenger needs to make some tough decisions.

He may want to start here…

1. PLAN B (FOR BENDTNER)

Three seasons ago, Arsenal were criticised for having no Plan B. Then Adebayor changed all that. His muscular presence in attack meant the Gunners were able to add a direct dimension to their game.

Without a target man, however, Arsenal are once again becoming too predictable. Nicklas Bendtner may not have ability of the Togolese, but there’s enough goals in the rest of the team to make up for his shortcomings.

Against Chelsea, the burly Dane could prove crucial when it comes to the physical battle. Last time around, with Arshavin spearheading the attack, John Terry and his defensive colleagues enjoyed a leisurely afternoon. But utilise Bendtner correctly and the whole side would benefit. Not least, the little Russian, who could go back to doing what he does best: terrorising defences with the ball at his feet.

2. GIVE THEM THE HAIRDRYER TREATMENT

It worked at half-time against Liverpool, so why not try it again, Arsene? Perhaps it’s not the Frenchman’s style, but then again, perhaps these players aren’t quite the self-starters he once had them pegged for.

In the first 45 minutes at Anfield, they displayed the same lacklustre approach as they did against United last weekend. On that occasion, Wenger - who rarely says more than a few choice words in the dressing room - launched into a half-time tirade. The result? Arsenal went from being 1-0 down to winning the game 2-1.

It appears that a good old-fashioned rollocking still works. If Arsenal are to win the title then Wenger must not forget to pack his hairdryer for Stamford Bridge.

3. ALMUNIA OUT, FABIANSKI IN

Almunia has long been a joke for non-Arsenal fans; the hapless 'Spanish waiter' who dreams of playing for England. But Gunners fans were happy to take the jibes last season while their bleached blond No.1 quietly put together a string of credible performances.

This term, however, Manuel is looking faulty again. The side have managed only eight clean sheets all season – that’s less than Birmingham. Much of this is down to the keeper and the lack of faith his team-mates seem to have in him. (Rumours have it that he and William Gallas don’t see eye to eye – but then again, it doesn’t take much to fall out with the fiery Frenchman.)

Lucasz Fabianski hasn’t exactly proved faultless so far but a run in the team, starting with the game against Chelsea, would at least see Wenger prove to the fans he is still trying to change things for the better.

4. CLICHY OUT, CAMPBELL IN

Everyone’s entitled to one stinker, but Clichy making Nani look like Cristiano Ronaldo at the weekend was not his first offence since returning from injury.

Wenger has always believed in playing his charges into form, but if he continues to do so at the expense of results, it will cost the Gunners the title.

In the absence of the crocked Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore isn’t the safest option at fullback - but William Gallas is. The veteran defender may not like being shunted out wide, but he’s quick and mobile enough to see off the advances of Joe Cole and Florent Malouda. More significantly, if there’s one Arsenal centre-back capable of handling Drogba’s wrecking-ball approach, it’s fellow heavyweight Sol Campbell.

5. BRING NASTY BACK

Their bid for the title may have hit shaky ground, but there’s still one table that Arsenal are close to topping: the Fair Play League. Nice guys Fulham are top, while Chelsea and Manchester United wallow in fifth and ninth spot.

Of course, such gentlemanly conduct must be applauded, but Gunners fans must begin to wonder what is lost from a team that receives so few cautions. After all, it wasn’t so long ago that Vieira and Petit snarled the North London side to so much silverware.

English football may have, to some degree, followed in the non-contact ways of the continent since the late 1990s, but Wenger’s current side are ahead of the curve - and right now it is to their disadvantage. The truth is, that a juicy tackle here and there to strike fear into the opposition and fire up the Arsenal faithful wouldn’t go amiss at any ground - particularly Stamford Bridge

Amodu used the wrong formation & tactics to prosecute today's match. Anyone who has watched Ghana's matches in this competition knows they play with 1 striker, look to steal a goal (in the 1st half) and then pack the bus in front of their goal in the 2nd half. . .before today, they'd used this tactic successfully against Burkina Faso and Angola. . . .so I was surprised Amodu started off with 4-5-1/4-4-3 formation (that makes use of a lone striker) rather than a 4-4-2 against a team that was obviously coming to defend. When they scored, I said to my brother. 'If we can't equalize in the 1st half, we cant score again becos 'oma di ile pa ni 2nd half'. . .and this turned out to be true as they played defensive throughout. Our strikers didn't help matters too by wasting the many good goal scoring chances that came their way.

Anyway, a surgical operation needs to be done on this team. . . . .certain players need to be dropped e.g Nwaneri, Kanu, Yusuf Mohammed (always takes him at least 3 touches to control a ball and he's too injury prone) and certain players need to be recalled (e.g Adeleye, Adefemi, Ajilore, Eneramo etc). . . . Amodu must also be more flexible in his approach to matches. . . .you don't go thru' a tournament playing opposing teams that play different patterns with the same formation and tactics, Haba! He must also be willing to try players in positions other than the traditional roles we know them for playing in the S.E's eg Why can't Nsofor for example play as a 10 & Osaze or Ogbuke as a point man like Sia1 used them in the Olympics etc,etc.

Amodu must also keep his mind open and give the home-based players and the better players from the U-17 (Azeez, Chukwudi, Emmanuel, Ajagun) U-21(Obot Etuk, Obiorah Nwankwo, Kingsley Udoh, Rabiu Ibrahim and Beijing 2008 team a chance to fight for a place in the final 23-man list. . . . . These players must not be used as mere training materials. . . .THEY MUST NOT. . .some of them MUST actually make the final team to South Africa. I see no reason why at least 3-5 players from the domestic league can't make the final team to the World cup. . . . Amodu cannot in his right senses tell me players like Ike ThankGod, Chibuzor Okonkwo, Osanga King, Ibrahim Babale, Obiorah Nwankwo, Valentine Nwabili, Jonah Abutu, Solomon Okpako, John Nnam etc are not good. HE CANNOT!. . . .Amodu's take on the domestic league and the players is not only pathetic but laughable. . Heartland got to the CAF champions league final and eliminated a Kano Pillars that knocked out Ahl-Ahly of Egypt (that is the bedrock of the Egypt's Angola 2010 team) in the semi-finals. It's funny Amodu saw no player worth donning the green-white-green amongst these two teams. . . Very Funny. . . .A local homebased coach who cut his teeth in the domestic league but does not believe in home-based players?. . . oh. . . .LAUGH WAN KILL ME DIE!

Finally, I have been a vocal supporter of Amodu but at the same time, I have often tempered this support with criticism and expressed my displeasure with his player selection, tactics, formation, substitutions and what have you. I hope he has a change of mentality and does what needs to be done before the World cup. . . . .(YES HE STILL DESERVES TO TAKE US TO THE WORLD CUP albeit with Siasia in tow) otherwise hmmm. . , . make I just stop for here for now.
