Who Is Accountable for Police Misconduct in Nigeria? The IGP vs. The President
When a police officer extorts a driver, searches a citizen's phone despite official directives, or abuses a suspect, who should take the blame the individual officer, the Inspector-General of Police, or the President? That question was at the centre of a discussion.

When a police officer extorts a driver, searches a citizen's phone despite official directives, or abuses a suspect, who should take the blame the individual officer, the Inspector General of Police, or the President?

That question was at the centre of a discussion. The answer is not as simple as blaming one person. Police misconduct exists at several levels, and each level carries a different responsibility.

The Officer Still Has Personal Responsibility
Low salaries, poor working conditions, and inadequate equipment can explain why police officers may feel frustrated. But they do not excuse extortion or abuse.

A police officer who demands money from a citizen is still making a personal choice. Financial hardship may explain misconduct, but it does not make the misconduct acceptable.

If low pay becomes a justification for extortion, then every poorly paid public servant could use the same excuse to abuse the people they serve.

The basic principle should be clear:

A police officer should not demand money from citizens at checkpoints.
Officers should not force people to unlock or submit their phones without lawful justification.
Citizens should not face harassment because they refuse to pay a bribe.
Ethnic profiling should not become part of routine policing.

Let's look at the elements of an effective prayer life.

Fervency

JAMES 5:16-18 (Worrell)

16 . . . A righteous man's inwrought supplication avails much.

17 Elijah was a man of like nature with us; and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months;

18 And again he prayed, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit. Effective prayer involves fervency.

The Bible teaches that we are always to be ". . . fervent in spirit..." (Rom. 12:11).

W. E. Vine says the word translated "fervent" in Romans 12:11 means to be hot; to boil. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible adds that figuratively it means to be earnest.

Epaphrus was "laboring fervently" for the Colossians in prayers (Col. 4:12). The Greek word agonizomai, translated "laboring fervently," indicates a striving, a wrestling.

One true God in heaven

Text : James 1 : 5

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
God gives to all men liberally without finding faults in us. So when we ask God for wisdom, He gives us His wisdom.

Our text says, if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask.

In essence, if you desire to have more wisdom, ask God and He will give it to you.

MEMORISE: “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” – 1 Peter 3:12 (KJV)

READ: 1 John 5:14-15 (KJV)

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

MESSAGE:

At times when we pray, it seems as if God cannot hear. I want to assure you today that as long as you are praying with a holy heart, God can hear every word you speak to Him.
