Students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, allegedly protesting an increase in fees by the university authorities on Monday barricaded the Warri end of the strategic East-West Road. Although the protest was meant to be as peaceful as possible and without unduly disrupting social and economic activities of residents, the protesters later created barriers on the busy highway connecting Delta with most South-South states of Nigeria through the oil city of Warri. THISDAY learnt that the resort to barricading the Warri/ Effurun-Ughelli portion of the East-West Road following breakdown of negotiations between the FUPRE management and representatives of the students. The students claimed that under the new arrangement, the FUPRE authorities have directed old students of the institution to pay N55,000 as against N26,400 charged previously. Similarly, the charge for freshers has been jacked up to N90,000 from the N46,000 fresh students paid in the past. The students further said several other charges have also bee increased by the school authorities, including "Acceptance Fee" and "Hostel Fee", which the authorities claimed were meant to "develop the institution." The placard-bearing students said that they wanted to alert members of the public to the seeming commencement of the process to commercialize education at the nation's first specialized petroleum resources university, stressing that they could not afford the new fees of charges. The students also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the interest of the institution, saying the sudden increase announced by FUPRE might be politically motivated and intended to create fresh crisis for the Jonathan administration at this critical election. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fupre-students-protest-increased-fees-barricade-east-west-road/200199/ |

I have read stories about some past/serving african leaders and often wonder if they were/are really mentally stable. So I did a little research and came up with this. Well, some did good deeds and at the same time they also force you to doubt their sanity. Take a look at this list and judge for your selves. Oh btw, " Every nation gets the government it deserves" - Joseph-Marie, comte de Maistre, but African deserves better . 6. Mobutu Sese Seko He ordered congolese to drop their European names for African ones, and priests were warned that they would face five years' imprisonment if they were caught baptizing a congolese child with a European name. Western attire and ties were banned, In 1972, Mobutu renamed himself Mobutu Sese Seko Nkuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga ("The all-powerful warrior who, because of his endurance and inflexible will to win, goes from conquest to conquest, leaving fire in his wake." Mobutu Sese Seko for short. Mobutu consolidated power by publicly executing political rivals, secessionists, coup plotters, and other threats to his rule.many were hanged before large audiences The evening network news on television was preceded by an image of him descending through clouds from the heavens, www.en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobutu_Sese_Seko 5. Jean-Bedel Bokassa 4 March 1972 declared himself president for life December 1977. He crown himself emperor of Central African republic , in a ceremony costing $20 million(more than then annual budget), practically bankrupting the country. His diamond-encrusted crown alone cost $5 million. He personally supervised judicial beatings and introduced a rule that thieves would have an ear cut off for the first two offenses and a hand for the third. In 1979 he had hundreds of schoolchildren arrested for refusing to wear uniforms made in a factory he owned, and was reported to have personally supervised the massacre of 100 of the schoolchildren by his Imperial Guard. A number of people have also testified against him in court to have been a cannibal www.en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Bdel_Bokassa www.africaw.com/forum/f17/the-mad-men-of-africa-worst-african-dictators-t2483/ |
Yes oo. my president has spoken and the mischief makers run for cover. How can some people just wakeup one morning and publish that trash. Even if jona has that much (which he doesnt), nobody will know. My President is not corrupt, he is just unfortunate to be surrounded by corrupt officers whom he can't get rid off because they are essential to the survival of his government.. |
