The office is a poisoned chalice, that people desperately run for.

He cannot send military or anyone else to attack and apprehend these non state actors welding guns and killing people because the local and international government interests as well as the local people are all involved in this.

Nigeria doesn't have the capacity to effectively police herself within her borders as it is. That's the truth. Before Tinubu became President, he promised to make electricity available within 4 years and asked that he shouldn't be voted back if he didn't. Where is the electricity?

Nobody has been able to fix that: not OBJ who had the best opportunity or Yar'adua/GEJ or Buhari or Tinubu. I feel that the problem is our electoral system that empowers poor and unenlightened people with the same electoral franchise as the opposite.

It would mean that corrupt people would always be needed to win elections, and once that's the case, no incorrupt person can win. If the person wins, he or she cannot deliver because you need more than 4 years to deliver.

We are also ignoring the functions of the States. Nobody is talking about State Police or a Ban on open cattle grazing which has contributed a lot to the infiltration of our bushes by these insurgents. Nobody is asking the governors these critical questions. Nobody, or very few people.

The President himself knows he is a failure but he cannot say it publicly or resign from office. That's not my argument right now.

The problem is that the way out country is currently structured cannot let much changes happen even if Peter Obi miraculously becomes President tomorrow morning.

Mark my words, the political release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which is imminent, would be traded on the votes that the South East would give whoever becomes President. If Tinubu wins the election, and has 50% or more of South East votes, Kanu would be released almost immediately after he is sworn in. If Obi wins, Kanu would be released in the same fashion.

It isn't that Kanu committed no crimes, but the situation is now more political than strictly legal. It is why the Judge couldn't pronounce a death sentence. He would be released, on way or the other - on the altar of safety, security and political expediency.

We accept favours, offer bribes, or look the other way when malfeasance benefits us or our relatives. This quiet, self-serving participation in fraud is a cancer that grows uncontrollably to situations like this one, hollowing out the very institutions designed to serve us.

It is thus very hypocritical to then cry out in outrage or compare our nation to the developed world when the consequences of our actions become public. When a scandal breaks, we act as if we were innocent bystanders, completely unaware of the rotten system we helped to "cook." This performative indignation is a smokescreen for our collective guilt.

True change will not come from external forces or new leadership alone. It must begin with a fundamental reorientation of our collective mindset. We must acknowledge our complicity and begin to hold ourselves, and each other, accountable. Until we dismantle this widespread culture of fraud and selfishness, where we prioritize personal gain over collective well-being, we will continue to be victims of our own making.

The deplorable state of our nation's social services is a mirror reflecting our own moral compromise.

I genuinely hope to witness Mr. Obi's victory in 2027. Not because I believe he possesses a magic wand to transform Nigeria into an overnight El Dorado, but because his presidency could significantly de-escalate national tensions. It would serve as a powerful reminder that Nigeria's progress doesn't hinge on a single "saint" in the presidency, nor on 36 "saints" as governors, or 774 "saints" as local government chairpersons.

Why do we focus on cash so much in this country?

In places as close as Kenya, most payments are virtual. The locals ask for your Pesa or so to transfer money freely. There should be less pressure on paper cash. That's the way to go.

Commercial banks all have various digital payment options. All major businesses have account numbers which can receive digital payments. So what's the craze about POS or ATM?
