Hi Mycvclinic, You are right sir,Accounting system is nt all about buying software and start to input data.what I meant is that unlike recording of transaction which starts with journals and posting to the Nominal ledger,Pls correct me if I am wrong,Setting up a system start from you understanding the client biz,cash/credit transaction,if there are inventory and opening of necessary accounts under the following classes of accounts (1)ASSETS (2)LIABILITIES (3)REVENUE (4)EXPENSES (5) EQUITY. Once the accounts are opened you integrate it the jounals.If the entity has previous record you bring in the figures as the opening bal. those account it's been transfer to. Merry Xmas & Happy New in Advance to Nairalanders, Sequel from my last update, The above illustration demostrate a simple cash transaction,had the computer bought on credit.It would have credited Supplier account(Computer seller) rather than cash because the transaction does not affect cash-in-hand or at bank. To illustrate the double entry concept,consider a simple transaction involving a purchase of computer on 1st December for N90,000. In single entry bookkeeping system,it is enter an expenses of N90,000 only. you can register a business name yourself @ any CAC office close to you,if you have the time but incorporation of a company will be handled by a Lawyer or Chatered Accountant. The official payment for business name is broken down as follows 1)You buy Availabilty search form N200,it will be used to search for your proposed business names.fill the form then submit it and back after 2-3 weeks. 2)If one of the proposed name has been approved,you buy a file of N250 and make an official payment of N4000. You will need a certificate to backup your business name if your business name include words like "CONSULT,TECHNICIAN" or antthing relating to professional service. Please note that it's likely to cost you more than the above breakdown. The modern and standard financial information system is "double entry" because each transaction involves two account :debit and credit, for every debit,there is an equal and opposite credit.The sum of all debit must therefore equal sum of all credits. The balancing requirement is critical,as it makes it easier to detect error of discrepancies in the recording of transaction,moreover it provides a full picture of the financial situation of the business.
