The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been adjourned to October 21 by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, following the failure of the Department of State Security DSS to produce him in court today, July 26.

When the case was called up, Justice Binta Nyako said there was nothing the court could do because the defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, had not been produced in court by the DSS. Kanu was not present in court due to logistical issues, according to the prosecution’s counsel, Mohammed Abubakar.
Justice Nyako then ordered the DSS to allow Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, access to his client, and she also promised to work with the prosecution and defence lawyers, as well as the head of the security team, to devise a plan to allow Ejiofor access to his client, whom he claims he has not seen in eight days.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned Nigerians against displaying their wealth in public.

The warning was issued by Paul Oduh, Deputy Director, Security Enforcement of the Secret Service in Kwara Command, while presenting a paper titled “Security tips for health practitioners in Kwara” at a symposium organized by the state branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in the state on July 23.
According to Oduh, one of the factors that usually attract the attention of criminal elements is the display of wealth in public. He explained that the uncontrolled display of flamboyant lifestyle and deliberate display of affluence has the potential to attract kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals.

“People must adopt moderate lifestyles in order to avoid falling victim to these criminal elements. On a daily basis, the country is wracked by insecurity. However, people should not despair; security should be a concern for everyone, and they must be educated about it,” he said.

Court sentences man: An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Friday sentenced a 29-year-old man, Amos Olatunji, to one year in the correctional centre for burglary and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the convict broke into a shop and stole a mobile phone, one engine oil, and two engine cups worth N16, 800.
Following his guilty plea to the three-count charge of burglary, stealing, and wilful damage to property, the Magistrate, Mr Shotunde Shotayo, sentenced the convict to one year in prison without the option of a fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Cynthia Ejezie, told the court that the convict committed the crimes around 2 a.m. on July 18 in Winners’ Area, Ota.

She claimed that the Olatunji broke into the complainant’s shop, Halemah Tijani’s, to steal a mobile phone, one engine oil, and two engine cups worth N16, 800

The prosecutor went on to say that the convict also damaged the complainant’s shop’s ceiling, which was worth N20,000.

The Lagos State Commissioner for housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said the government would soon unveil an Affordable Housing Development Trust Fund to bridge the housing gap in the state.

Akinderu-Fatai said this in Lagos on Thursday while inspecting ongoing housing projects.
He said the fund, being established in collaboration with Arctic Infrastructures, a Non-Governmental Organisation, was a financial product intended to support property developers and homeowners.

“The fund will reduce the challenge of financing housing development and empower people, particularly the low and medium-income earners to access housing without undue financial stress.

“When you talk of construction, the development partners are people in business and people who are going to live in these houses,” he said.

He explained that it was not easy to raise funds, hence the state government would collaborate with international partners to deliver homes at low rates.

Nnamdi Kanu’s brother has revealed how they spoke while he was in Kenya shortly before he was arrested.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has cleared Mrs Kemi Adeosun, the former Minister of Finance, of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate controversy that led to her resignation in 2018.

In his ruling on Wednesday, on the originating summon with suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/303/21 brought on her behalf by Wole Olanipekun, SAN, Justice Taiwo Taiwo held that the NYSC certificate is not a mandatory requirement for holding a political office in the country based on the constitution.


Adeosun was the plaintiff in the case, while the sole defendant was the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
