Thanks a lot kindly provide links in ur first post that newbies can use, especially from previous editions. - for training, setting up (registration, deposit/withdrawals), apps, etc. I think this will help a lot with repeat questions. also, if a good input is made by traders, u can quote it in same first post. - this will reduce search time for info. cheers & happy new year. |

Crime › Re: Ordinary Nigerians Are More Corrupt Than Politicians by DZTech: 4:44pm On Dec 25, 2020 |
govt has no business in business. all over the world, any govt involved in business will find it falls under corruption. there's also a reason why developed countries put SYSTEMS in place to curb loopholes in institutions. and in these countries, it's d private sector that runs revenue generation operations, with govt AND public oversight. when Nigerians want a working nation, we'll get it easily. lovelyn1186: This was an empty train from Kaduna to Abuja yesterday
But, there were passengers on ground, yet railway staff refused to board them because they could not afford the black market fare.
Maybe Buhari or Amaechi should go and stand there to sell the tickets, captain the train and provide security on the way.
Never seen a more selfish people like us before. Because of the train workers' thievery they prefer the coaches run empty than sell tickets. Same people will gather on Facebook to point their crooked fingers at Nigeria or politicians. They will also point us to restructuring...and constitution as our problem.
Na we de do ourselves.
Like someone pointed out: "Those who are doing this are Railway staff. But when govt decides to handover to private sector, we will be the ones to challenge govt.
"This is how Pengassan and Nupeng did to our refineries. But they still hv d guts to support NLC strike.
"We are our own problem and solution." |

Merry Christmas! down to business. a burglar was caught in ONIRU, Lagos this week and taken to the police station. it occurred to me that- guilty or innocent, he needs representation. how will his rights be protected? wot's d chain of evidence in his case? will a judge take the victim's statement and police report as proof of guilt? was his confession coerced? I then realized that most of us don't even know how the legal system works! so, will he get a public defender? will a judge assign any lawyer at random? do lawyers engage in pro bono works? seun, lalasticlala I think we need a legal section, separate from crime. corporate law, Constitutional/civic, criminal, etc affect all aspects of our lives. maybe changing d crime section to be a subset of "law". happy holidays. |
Business › Christmas Eve Bank Blackout- Is There A Cash Crunch? by DZTech(op): 2:42am On Dec 25, 2020 |
Based on my own experience as well as reports from clients and other colleagues, there was a general blackout on banking services- ATM, USSD, POS and mobile app.
All banking platforms of several banks were inaccessible, or failed to complete transactions. it would be easy to offer a reasonable explanation of high volume/peak periods.
But I suspect banks r trying to stop money from leaving their vaults, due to a cash crunch. The cash might be insufficient, or they fear it will stay in circulation (recall that all money agents now pay out dollars, rather than selling for naira).
It might also be due to the recession; or they fear the cash will stay in circulation, as more and more people spend more frequently- due to the high costs of goods and services.
As the holidays give way to normalcy, less and less people will be cash rich. Withdrawals will increase, along with loan defaults.
Unless govt injects more capital into the economy, banks will also find it hard to meet their loan repayments with their international lenders.
Where will the money come from? Merry Christmas and a happy new year. |
