Banking services were introduced on USSD channels to ensure easier access to banking services.

Customers who use unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) channels to access banking services would have to pay new charges of #4 for every 20 seconds as from October 21.

This is the structure of the message sent to all MTN users earlier today “Please note that from Oct 21, we will charge N4 per 20 seconds for USSD access to banking services. Thank you,”

Before now, telcos charged customers per USSD session, this charges differs across networks and the highest seems to be N20 per session.

However, this new charge would mean that customers will be charged N12 for every minute spent on the USSD channel.

Although this new development has Sprout reactions from customers and they have taken to social media to express their feelings.

Even Some customers went as far as sending messages to their banks to know how genuine the information is and some banks have responded saying their charges remain unchanged.

For better understanding, the process of producing cassava laundry starch is divided into 3 categories-Farm Stage, processing stage & pre-application stage. Let us see how it is done stage by stage, one step after the other.

1. Farm Stage: This involves harvesting your cassava plants, peeling, taking (conveying) them home or to point of processing. Harvesting entails cutting the cassava plant on the farm. You will need a matchet or cutlass to do this. After cutting is done, you now hold the cassava trunk (stump) and forcefully pull it from the ground. This is if you have chosen to do it, of course, our point of emphasis, without machine. In order to peel also, you need knife, cutlass or matchet, you peel by just gently removing the first layer of cover, usually brownish in color & that directly in contact with the soil. Peeling off this part makes you to be left with the whitish tuber. Here your peeled cassava is ready for processing.

2. Processing Stage: The processing stage involves grating your peeled cassava in a machine designed specially for the purpose. Less for this modern age and technology, grating was done with an improvised grater. The grater is produced by perforating many holes on a flat metal plate. You then grate by robbing your cassava against the rough surface, cutting it into its finest paste. Don’t forget, it is this paste, which is, through another process converted to our popular (Africa) garri flour. After grating, the paste is put in a bag and the liquid drilled off. If needed in large quantity, you may put a considerably heavy substance on the bag to press it down to further remove the liquid. The white liquid is collected in a bowl and left to settle thereby clog. You need to gently spill off the water layer that is formed in order to have your 100% laundry starch (unprocessed). Some individuals have to drain the water to the last drop to have a semi-solid starch. The remaining solidified, paste is passed on for onward processing into garri.

3. Pre- Application Stage: This marks the final production stage. During the pre-application stage there is need to boil water to a very high degree temperature. You collect the needed quantity in a bowl. If it contains water, you will need to stir thoroughly to avoid any clog deposit so as not to produce a clog, stony effect in your final, needed laundry starch. Pour your hot water into the bowl containing the starch & stir also, immediately. What you have is a whitish, pap-like paste called laundry starch. Ouch! It’s ready to be applied!

Can you now see that the process is very simple to follow, start making your own starch so that you will look so nice in your starched fabrics.

Are you Curious to know when you are likely to be checking your 2018 WAEC May/June exam results online? Here come the good news, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has promised that the results for candidates that participated in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates will be ready in 45 days.

The council’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Damianus Ojijeogu, disclosed on Saturday in Lagos.

The council, he said, was satisfied with the conduct of the just concluded examination for school candidates nationwide.

The West African Examinations Council says it will release of its 2018 West African Senior School Certificates Examination results in 45 days.

NAN reports that the WASSCE for school candidates commenced on March 27 and was concluded on May 15.

“We are indeed happy that the examination was conducted in a hitch free manner.

“Right now, we have commenced coordination, briefing and subsequently, marking.

“We are looking at releasing the results in 45 days or earlier than that time.

“It has been the commitment of the council to always give quality service delivery in line with the Head of National Office, Mr Olu Adenipekun’s promise to reduce the waiting days from 90 days to 45 days, ” he said.

Ojijeogu said that technology had been deployed to some marking venues to assist in scanning the scripts.

He said that this would facilitate the marking of the scripts.

According to him, this will also impact positively in the early release of the results.

The council had also said it would deploy technology that would help detect malpractice in its objective questions.(NAN).

HISTORY OF THE KEGITES CLUB

Kegite Club International known to be Supreme comradium can be traced to thirteen students of the then Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, who gather themselves every evening to relax after a hard day work. Upon hearing that their college would become a university the next morning, the excitement combined with ecstasy for being the first set of undergraduate of the university of Ife drove them on an enjoyment galore.

The thirteen foundation students became the executive and periodically they donated palm wine for the consumption of the group in turns. Not before long, history was made as they became founding members of the first socio-cultural club in the world. All this occurred while they were at the Ibadan campus before they were moved to the permanent site in Ile-Ife.

The palm wine drinkers club did not only come into existence by accident but by incidence, these Africans knowing full well their cultural background gather to sing folktale songs and drink palm wine. Consequently, they were able to retain the cultural heritage of the blacks which the colonial master were unable to take away and the club was established in October 1963.

The pioneer executives of the palm wine drinkers club is Professor Olusegun Adesina - President, but as a socio-cultural club it was agreed that he should be called Chief as in African traditional setting. Thus, Chief Olusegun Adesina was the first Chief to be coronated followed by Emmanuel Abiodun, Bisi Olatunji and others who served as executives alongside the chief.

They are known as world chief. Over the years, many students in other institutions have found the activities of the club very interesting and fascinating. Thus obtained autonomy from University of Ife. (the world headquarters of the palm wine drinkers club) Among such institution is Federal College of Agriculture, Akure named ILYA du TRACTOR (First institution to have Keg of Office) others include University of Ibadan which obtained its keg of office in 1972 and it is known as ILYA du UI, The Polytechnic , Ibadan 1974 and several others.

The club changed its name on October 1986, during the reign of Chief Anthony Uzodima Ogidi, the then world Chief, at the world Chiefsis conference of 1986 from palm wine drinkers club to Kegites club international with the motto Unity in Diversity from the basis of African peace.

The aims and objectives of kegites club is to preserve and promote African culture, promote peace among human race, resuscitate the cultural awareness of our fore fathers and promote honest living and truth among all members as well as to discourage tribalism and racism. The kegites club is now an international club as there are branches outside the shores of Nigeria.

There are branches in United Kingdom, India, United States and various convergencies in other countries of the world. The kegites club international is one and indivisible. The supremost comradium has a special language with a peculiar dialectical parlance which every member is delighted to speak at all times and gatherings and their motto is Unity in Diversity

• CHIEF: This is the president of the club in an ilya. He is in charge of accepting new member in the club that is called liberation and has the power to do many things.

• ELDER: He is the second in command, that is the vice preseident to the chief.

• FEDA: He is the secretary of an ilya.

• PARROT: He is the director of information in an ilya, he passes information to the comrades.

• PHILOSOPHER: He is the comrad who knows everything about the club, he teaches and tutorise both animales and comrados in the zoo.

• H.O.D: Head of drums, he is in charge of the drum in an ilya he also teaches the other comrades how to beat the drums.

• SONGITO: He is the vocalist of the club, he lead in songitizing in jara.

• MIGRATOR: He organizes ketekete (vehicles) for external gyrations.

• TAPPER: The person that rotates holy water .

• MARSHAL: The provost in an ilya , he make sure that the comrads behaves well in an ilya.

• LUPOUR: He is the person that shares the holy water for the comrades.

• ZOO COMMANDANT: He is the person in charge of the co-ordination of the zoo class.

• AJUCTANT: The person in charge of the chief’s items.

• CURATOR: A person in charge of the shrine, all the chieftaincy parapitenal is usually put in the custody of the curator.

• SPECIAL DUTY (spedu) : The person also carries out some duty in an ilya.

• ELDERSIS COUNCIL: Selection of chief and elders in an ilya who take some important decisions in order for the club to move forward.

• CHIEFSIS COUNCIL: This council is the highest body in the club comprising of ab, xy, xyz, archival and metusela chiefesis.

• KEGISTIC LANGWAJA: This is the approved language of the kegites club.

• ILYA: This is a branch of kegites club, that has a kegite office, as a symbol of independent existence, it has a crowned chief.

• BABY ILYA: This is a newly commissioned branch of kegites club that has no keg office or a chief, but attached to an ilya and over see by a cordee (coronator).

Others met in the bush, but Kegite meet at the shrine. People scamper for safety when others gather, but people draw closer when they gather.

Lecturers who belong to the other groups do not allow students to know about their membership,
but lecturers who belongs to the club fight for student right during senate meetings.

Others believes that every Bleep up must be treated, kegite believes there is unity in diversity.

Others fly colours , but Kegite regaliates. They wear beret but Kegite put on capito.
