Fashion / Re: Hairdresser/stylists Thread by easterbabe(f): 11:13am On Nov 16, 2014
just listen to yourself " I am learning in a local salon" - what can you possibly be learning there? Do they teach you about hair texture, structure, composition, etc Do they teach you about the chemical composition of hair relaxers? Do they teach you why it is compulsory to use a neutralising shampoo? Why it is neccesary to have a trim? Does the salon have running water? Does the owner / teacher know how to make money from the business? What is her monthly turnover? Does she have a database of her customers? Does she even know why oeople come to her saloon?
What have you learnt so far?
Be careful because it is difficult to remove from your brain anything you put in it!

Fashion / Re: Why Are Nigerian Tailors So Unreliable? by easterbabe(f): 8:20am On Nov 16, 2014
Let me list out the reasons here: - just becos the tailor can sew does not mean the tailor understands the business that uses his/her sewing skills.
- A custom service is supposed to be fully paid for in advance to enable the tailor plan his/her work properly - A tailor should have a properly laid out chart showing work due for collection and dates, do they? The answer is no! - There is need for collaboration in every creative endeavour but the tailor is usually a one man riot squad.
-The tailor charges nothing for a large chunk of service done for the client e.g a client can spend up to 2 hours of the tailor's time picking styles and discussing changes to be made for the client. How does the independent tailor succeed when he/she doesn' t get properly remunerated for his/her services?
- The tailor's tools and equipments are obsolete and outdated, so their productivity is low and when you add power issue to it......, no tailor can deliver on time!
Any serious tailor who desires upgrade/ update and how to succeed in this much needed service industry can reach me on 08023228924

onnari :
Sewing tip for the house:
-Choose your needle according to the heaviness of your fabric
- You don't need a zipper foot to sew on an 'invisible zipper'. A regular presser foot can do d trick!
You do need a concealed Zipper foot to sew an invisible zipper CORRECTLY!
Fashion / Re: That's Sew Naija! - Fashion Designers,tailors,accessory/jewelry Makers, Join In! by easterbabe(f): 11:38pm On Mar 08, 2013
onnari :
TSN Nugget- sheer fabrics while being sewn may pucker or draw despite all your efforts - ds also happens wth jersey fabrics. u know doz ones d@ r light n somtyms silky? Place a piece of paper(i normly use old newspapers)underneath the fabrics and sew thru.wn u done, rip d paper off, leaving bhind perfectly strong stiches!
I suggest you match your needle size to the weight of the sheer fabric ( try a size 9 needle) and for the Jersey fabric, you need to use Jersey needles. I know these are not readily available here though.I'll try and post here more often to share the little I know with other sewing enthusiasists.

Business / Re: Is Mocality Really Closing Down? Why? by easterbabe(f): 2:01pm On Feb 19, 2013
Well said jare, been looking for a less demanding alternative (commission wise)to dealdey and you jusT gave me dealz9ja.
Guk:

Its a good thing that this closing down came up as here a number of lessons to be learnt from it. Pls follow closely.

I am a Business Consultant to Dealz9ja www.dealzng.com/deals/all/ the only remaining competitor to Dealdey. The others in competition were (a) Deals.mocality (2) Rightdealz.com (3)Qlu Qlu (4)All4Naija. They are of now blessed memory.

Pls note that Deal of the Day website are cloned after Groupon and are totally diff from your regular Product websites like Webmallng; Konga; Jumia; Kamdora & such like.

Deal of the Day website DO NOT make a lot of money and could collapse anyday if you dont get your model right. Dealz9ja has bn sustainable becos, a niche has bn carved; subscriber base is sufficient to run at a profit; overheads were contained right from start up; areas that needed to be outsourced were done wt hard negotiations. The truth be told, cost of Adverts is the bleeding point. A typical month on Facebook is =N=500k How do you sustain such from even sharing 50% commission from your merchants? Meanwhile, Deals.Mocality had adverts on DSTV during 2012 Champions league and Olympics. You do not want to know how much such cost. I had predicted their downfall from them as it was not sustainable.

Dealdey has competitive advantage becos they are owned or supported by eMotion, an outdoor advert comapany that is awash with cash. eMotion is funded by ARM & ARM funds the Lekki Epe Expressway & thats why eMotion has the right to advertise exclusively on that prime location from Bonny cam all the way to Ajah and beyond.

Dealdey's commisions are high, and that has pushed some of their Merchants to Dealz9ja. This business is all about Strategy; Knowing the Market; playing the Market & sustaing your business model and grow organically as Dealz9ja can never match Dealdey in advert spending & is not even attempting to. hey have their own clientele & business is good & profitable.

As for Jumia & Konga, the jury is out on them. The Advertisement spend is HUMONGOUS, i hope it doesnt bring them down after a couple of years. Its just not sustainable. You are talking of advert spend of roughly a =N=1M daily!

In 2012 alone, over 5 dozen ecommerce bizs can online, over 90% are gone. Its a marathon biz not a sprint.

More later.....
