News source reaching Eastern Times has it that Sowore was earlier today granted bail by Justice Taiwo Taiwo who asked the Department of State Service to release Omoyele Sowore on bail.

The ruling was made after listening to the argument of Sowore’s lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) and the prosecuting counsel.


The judge, as part of bail conditions, asked Sowore to drop his passport with the court within 48 hours.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday accepted South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa’s apology to Nigeria over the persistent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians.

The President, who described the attacks and violence as “very unfortunate”, assured that the relationship between the two countries “will be solidified”.

President Buhari received President Ramaphosa’s Special Envoys – Dr. K. Mbatta and Jeff Radebe – who delivered their leader’s message at a meeting in Aso Villa, Abuja.

They were accompanied by South Africa High Commissioner to Nigeria Bobby Monroe.

The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, was jeered and whistled at, on Saturday, during his speech at Zimbabwe’s ex-Leader, Robert Mugabe’s funeral, before he apologised for the recent xenophobic attacks in his country.

At least 12 people have been killed this month, in a surge in violence and mob attacks against foreign-owned businesses, in and around Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city.

A wave of jeers, boos, and whistles, interrupted Ramaphosa at the Harare National Stadium, as he started his eulogy at the State funeral for Mugabe, who died age 95, last week.

“I stand before you as a fellow African, to express my regret and apologise for what has happened in our country”, Ramaphosa said after one of the organisers tried to calm the crowd.
His comments were met with cheers and blasts of sound horns from the crowd.

South Africa, the continent’s second largest economy, is a major destination for other African migrants. However, they are often targeted by some locals, who blame them for lack of jobs.
With shops and homes continuously burned and looted, and clashes between armed mobs of looters and Police, hundreds of migrants from Mozambique and Zimbabwe, have fled to shelters.

Nigeria’s government has flown around 600 of its citizens home from Johannesburg, after some of them were targeted in the violence.

In order to honour them, every IPOB family in Biafraland and beyond was instructed to observe as follows:




1. midnight service on the 13th of September 2019




2. Two minutes silent where ever you are by 12:00 noon on the 14th day of September 2019.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he has no intention of inflicting
additional hardship on Nigerians.

He declared that there are no plans to increase fuel price and also
restated his promise of ridding the nation of corruption and the oil
and gas sector of corruption.

The President said this when he met with newly elected officers of the
Trade Union Congress (TUC) in his office, in Abuja.

The TUC delegation was led by the National President, Quadri Olaleye.

President Buhari disclosed this when he responded to a request by the
group not to increase the price of fuel and promised to sustain the
momentum in his second tenure and lift millions of Nigerians out of
poverty.

He added that the key agenda of the inaugural federal executive
council meeting focused on the medium-term expenditure framework which
includes the minimum wage as he re-echoed a commitment to implement
the new national minimum wage.

Leader of the delegation, Quadri Olaleye of the food, beverage, and
tobacco senior staff association who recently emerged as the new
national president of the TUC, replacing Bobboi Kaigama led
the14-member national administrative council of the union to the
president.

The Minister of Labour and  Employment, Chris Ngige, was also at the

Delegations of European Union to Nigeria has expressed worries over the continued incarceration and detention of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who is the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

EU in a statement, urged the federal government to release El-Zakzaky as ordered after several rulings by Federal High Court in Abuja.

“The EU Heads of Mission note that the decision by a Federal High Court in Abuja ordering Mr. Ibrahim El-Zakzaky’s immediate release from custody by the State Security Service has not been enforced.
“The EU underlines the universality of fundamental human rights, which includes the right to a fair trial and freedom from arbitrary detention. We find it worrying that Mr. Zakzaky has been detained for more than a year without having been brought to Justice.
“We therefore urge the Nigerian authorities to ensure Mr. Zakzaky is released in accordance with the ruling of the court or is charged formally in accordance with Nigerian law and faces an impartial and balanced trial without further delay,” the statement said.
The EU said it is important that the findings made by all past or ongoing investigations into the violence that occurred in Zaria in December 2015 are published.

According to the statement gathered by Eastern Times, EU urged that all those responsible for the violence must be prosecuted according to the law and that anyone found guilty must be sentenced accordingly.
“The right to peaceful assembly and association, as well as the right to free speech is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. The EU Heads of Mission also remind Nigeria that it is essential to promote religious tolerance and respect religious rights.
“We will continue to follow the judicial situation of Mr. Zakzaky and his wife closely,” EU head commission added.

The Chairman of Anambra North vigilante services, a subsidiary of Anambra state Vigilante Group, (AVG) Chief Chinenye Ihenko (Okpompi) has warned the armed killer herdsmen operating in any guise to steer clear of Anambra state and entire Southeast geopolitical zone.

He warned that any further killings in the South East state by either the herdsmen, gunmen or suicide bombers would be waged and the perpetrator's  would also be placed to book with immediate effect.

He warned  bitterly while reacting to speculations making the round in various parts of Anambra state that Fulani herdsmen have taken over forests in the zone, declared: “let them strike again we are ready for them”.

“Nigeria is our country and we all must defend the peace, he said. We are ready to pay the supreme sacrifice now because Enough is Enough”. Ihenko revealed this to  newsmen in his office at Onitsha Main market assured customers coming to buy or sell goods in Onitsha of their safety, adding that they should have no course to fear of any attack.

He also assured the Federal government of their readiness to give support if called upon, even as he called on President Mohammed .Buhari to rise to the challenges of insecurity in the country.“Ndigbo have no other place to go and we have learnt our lessons during and after the civil war “We will rather die together than to allow our people to be slaughtered like goat on daily basis”.

Eastern Times gathered that Ihenko alerted all the stakeholders, traditional rulers town union leaders, members of the National Assembly, civil society groups and Nigerian women to join hands in the crusade to return Nigeria to its formal glory.According to him, “I wish to align myself with the former president of Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo’s call for dialogue by all the sectors of Nigerian society to put a stop to the incessant killing of innocent Nigerians.“

He urged that all hands should be on deck to tackle this insecurity head long now or else it will consume all of us. As it stands now, nobody or place is safe in Nigeria of today and if the ugly trend is allowed to continue, it will degenerate to a catastrophic situation” Ihenko stated.
