In truth names like Fubara, Ibinabo etc have their roots from Portuguese, English and a sprinkle of Igbo/Ibibio. The bulk of the names of tribes in the Riverian areas of our state are foreign like Pepper and localized by the locals to Pepple.

For Fubara its a portuguese version of Finbar. Finbar is Gaelic (Irish) in origin and made popular by the Catholic Patron Saint Finbarrs whose names was answered by boys in the ancient Catholic Europe (Christiandom).
