Deadlytruth:

And those military men where majorly of which tribe?
Rescue the nation from which plight? Didn't that rescuing end up in a civil war? Aren't people now of the opinion that Nigeria would have been better than it is today if that coup never happened? Why take power illegally for any excuse? The revenge coup was a Northern coup and those who carried it out don't deny that. Only you Igbos have refused to admit yours because you want to keep playing the victim card. The January 15 1966 coup is an Igbo coup because the pattern of the casualties and the eventual beneficiary revealed that there was a predetermined outcome aimed at elevating Igbos above other tribes by illegal means.
Always clever by half. Well, many of us who know your antecedents on Nairaland aren't disappointed with what you wrote because it was expected. Why should Ndigbo accept a coup planned and executed by the military as theirs? Perhaps, you're privy to information that we don't know, where Ndigbo held a meeting and asked the coupists to execute a coup on their behalf? Just read the gibberish you wrote and tell me if you're proud of such thoughts. You labeled the revenge counter-coup Northern coup and not Hausa/Fulani coup even when the main coup plotter Muritala Mohammed was an Hausa/Fulani from Kano, yet a coup led by Nzeogwu an Igbo from the Mid-West should be tagged Igbo and not southern coup. If middlebelters like Gowon, Danjuma etc participated in the revenge coup that made it Northern according to you, didn't other southerners like Ademoyega, Fola Oyewole etc not participants in the Southern coup that you now tag Igbo coup?

Perhaps, let me puncture your self bloated ego. You want Ndigbo to accept a coup, yet failed to tell us where the Hausa/Fulani accepted the revenge coup against Ironsi as an Hausa/Fulani sponsored coup? Tell us where the counter-coup sponsored by Gowon against Muritala was tagged a Berom/Kanke coup? What about the coup by Buhari, Babangida, Orkar and Abacha, have you tagged them by their tribes even when they were the main sponsors and beneficiaries?

Lastly, using that coup that happened over 50 years ago to justify the failed leadership of the country called Nigeria despite successive years of Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba dominated rule shows how myopic you are. So Ndigbo should remain the scapegoat for the failure of leadership at the center. If we agree that Ironsi with his military authoritarian rule in just few months in power made changes to the Nigerian constitution, what stops other successive military leaders with the more authority, jumbo bruteness and more years in power to revert the decree back to what it was.

This is 2024. Perhaps we can forgive you for being myopic in 2023, but when a person makes it a duty to be not just sentimental but parochial in matters that concern Ndigbo, then people have the right to start asking questions on the mental capacity and health of the individual in question.

Deadlytruth:

And the Tafawa Balewa you voted for at a time as critical as independence was the best on the ballot right? He was better than Awolowo and your own very well read Zik who were equally on the ballot right?

Then the Feudalist product Shagari whom you voted for in 1979 was the best in an election which your own cerebral Ojukwu contested.

Then the barely educated Alhaji Bashir Tofa you voted for in 1993 was the best over MKO a first class Accountancy graduate of the prestigious University of Glasgow?

Then the ex-convict Obasanjo whose stint as military HOS contributed immensely to the Nigerian tragedy was was the best candidate over the seasoned and unblemished technocrat Olu Falae who brandished a manifesto that would have industrialized Nigeria within fifteen years?

Why not look the way of comedy? In fact why are you just wasting your comedy talents on Nairaland while the likes of I go die and Teju Baby face are smiling to the banks daily with millions they rake in from their jokes which are no match for yours?
Igbos didn't vote for Balewa oga. Imagine the boldness in spilling fake information. I think it's time you learn your history. Zik was whom Ndigbo voted for both in the first Republic, and in the 2nd republic in1979. In 1983, Ndigbo shared their vote between Zik's NPP and Shagari's NPN with Zik racking the bigger percentage. In 1993, Ndigbo shared their votes between Tofa and Abiola with the former gaining 55% and the later 45%.

Then in 1999, Ndigbo voted for Obasanjo's PDP, then Yar'adua, and GEJ till 2015.

So know your history and be humble in learning.

The tribal bigots who accused the Igbos of cornering GEJ's government even when it was shown that they gained from it should hide their face in shame.

Buhari's government is a learner when it comes Tinubu's bigotry.

Akwa Ibom is not like other states that everything starts and ends in the state capital.
Eket, Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Oron, Ikot Abasi are other notable places in Akwa Ibom.
You can live in these places without any reason to go to Uyo.

Yeah I agree. The agricultural activities in those areas ensures the abundance of food. And also the money that comes from the diaspora community helps circulate money with also salaries from government workers.

Uyo is a lovely city. Peaceful, neat, hospitable, with good roads. It also a tourist destination with it's lush hotels, green environment and beautiful people. I actually missed their beautiful women, they make good wife grin. The only issue with Uyo is the acute brokeness of it's indigenes. Although they hustle hard, but comfortable with the little they have. Way too comfortable which seems to be a disadvantage when it comes to creating and distributing wealth.

I was there in October last year. Saw their airport and the dual road leading to the main town. The town is sleepy. Too sleepy for my likeness. Money is not evenly distributed among the people with a few well to do guys working for the government and a few oil firms. Those who bring in money into the city are its indigenes in places like Lagos, Abuja and abroad. And you could see their efforts from the real estate happening in new towns that the government has helped developed in Uyo capital. I was impressed with the large number of Igbos in the state, mostly engaging in business activities. They are also a few Yoruba, Hausa and other tribes there as well.

I think the government has to do more to drag industries to the city. Like creating more industrial estate, empowering youths with loans to establish cottage firms and collaborating with neighbouring states in the South-East to build joint infrastructures like seaport and railway. This will help push businessmen in places like Aba, Nnewi, Onitsha and even Lagos etc to use the seaport facility and in turn site industries in the state.

Has Sunday Oliseh not coached the Super Eagles before? How did it end. Both Oliseh and Eguavoen have failed as Super Eagles coaches. Emmanuel Amuneke is yet to lead as Head Coach.

As old as your tribalist head is so you didn't see the point raised right? How long will the NFF continue to take us for a ride. Name the indigenous Nigerian coach that is currently better than Emmanuel Amuneke? If I was Amuneke, I'll tell the NFF to shove the job under their ass and go coach other organized African countries. His CV is too rated to be waiting on the corrupt NFF.

No, Eguavoen has failed before! The last time out after they sacked Gernot Rohr, he failed to qualify Nigeria for the World Cup. They want to play out the same scene again

They should have appointed Amunike. Amunike proved himself as a player, playing for Zamalek, Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona. He also proved himself as a coach when he took Osimhen, Chukwueze & Co to win the U17 World Cup, and then took lowly Tanzania to the Nations Cup.

Both as player and coach, Amunike stands above Eguavoen
Well said bro.

I passed that area four months ago when I visited Unilag. I couldn't help but imagine the construction that CCECC did there. It seems like the construction was an idea of a drunk Engineer.

I understand that a flyover was constructed to connect Ojuelegba to the other side of Yaba but what is the essence of a pedestrian staircase. Infact once you get under the pedestrian staircase, you'll have to climb up the stairs and then down again as of you're climbing up and down a manual lift to get to other section. Perhaps the stairs is great for exercise but not for the sick and aged.

Don't mind the clowns. As if Ivorian and Senegalese coaches had any prior coaching experience before wining AFCON.

Amuneke has paid his dues with leading the Tanzanian team to their first AFCON and won the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria. Amuneke plays beautiful attacking football and understand the system that will bring out the best in Osihmen and our team.

Peter Obi remains an Iroko both in governance and in the opposition. If it were APC or Tinubu in opposition, lies, deceitful protests, terrorism sponsorships, and propaganda would have been the order of the day like we saw from 2007-2014 when the scam party and true fascist group were in the opposition.

Agbado-Ronu and Buharists who were true reflections of their corrupt leaders should learn something from Obidients.

Have you ever been to PH? A large percentage if not all taxi drivers, a large percentage of oil workers, federal civil servants, artisans and etc then business owners. I have friends and family permanently based in PH. You may not know it but PH has more Yoruba by percentage than Lagos have Igbos. Yoruba scattered around Nigeria is almost double the population of Igbos scattered in thesame way. Check people on Quora by Nigerian city name and you will agree. Now, the population of Ekiti will be at least 3.5 million to be modest. If Igbos are up to that in Lagos then you will agree that Hausa are also up to that. SS without Igbos will be up to that and NC will be up to that. NE will be at least one third, foreigners will be more than that and the total number of non Yoruba will be around 18 million. Can you now see why your figure is wrong?
Who dash the Yorubas the bogus figures you accord them in PH? In this my PH or another one. To even compare the number of Igbos in Lagos to the number of Yoruba in PH is the height of delusion. Even your fellow Yorubas will be laughing at you. You can easily count the Yorubas in PH who are too insignificant and lesser than even the Ibibios than the Igbos in Lagos who dominate several Lagos LGA's in population.

Sports / Re: My Ideal Nigeria Formation Against Ivory Coast And Why Kelechi Is Instrumental by Eastlink(m): 2:51pm On Jan 17
Holybwoy:
This is an opinion.

Although I cannot do anything to influence the coach's decision on the team's setup and formation in tomorrow's must win or draw match against the AFCON host, as a Nigerian tired of subpar performances and hoping to see our nation go beyond the group stage and even lift the trophy, a decade after achieving that feat, I feel I have a singular responsibility to suggest a lineup and tactics that will work in case anyone cares to listen.

I watched Ivory coast's game in the opening match and like every other Nigerian, I watched Nigeria's game too.

Ours was a disappointing result and only a win or draw versus the host nation is acceptable.

Of course, ivory coast will not be here to play all 90 mins long.

The bright side of our game against equitorial guinea was the inclusion of certain players who were fun to watch and gave the game any semblance of life- Osimhen, lookman, iwobi and Aina.

Cote d'Ivoire wants to win and they are going to press high all game long. The only technical player we can rely on to give iwobi a helping hand in creativity and chance conversion is senior man kelechi.

I was surprised he was an unused substitute in Nigeria's opening match and that must be down to favouritism.

Senior man as he's popularly called has the rythm, can read the intensity of a game intellectually and create spaces with his skills and left foot. Lookman can run, Aina can cross, onyeka can soak pressure, Osimhen can score, iwobi can create and pass but who can open space?

Think of Gabriel Jesus and his duties at Arsenal. That's a similar role to what we can endow on kelechi and trust him to execute it to perfection.

My ideal formation is a 4-1-4-1

Aina- Ekong- seyi-sanusi
Onyeka
Simon-iwobi-kelechi-lookman
Osimhen

Kelechi plays right behind Osimhen and we can have a good game ladies and gentlemen.

Source: Temitope Steve from x

Adding Zaidu Sanusi and Simon to the starting eleven shows you didn’t watch the last match. Those two were among the guilty parties that made us drew that match. Simon has no business benching Chukwueze and Sanusi is too limited to be benching Bassey. The coach might have learnt this bitter lesson about those two.

Open mouth dey yarn dust. It appears you didn’t watch Nigeria match. The team didn’t play as bad as people make it to be. It’s just that the Super Eagles usually enter every AFCON tournament as favorites. Despite how low we played, I still see the Super Eagles as favorite in this years AFCON. That redemption will start from Cote D Ivoire match. The Equatorial Guinea team isn’t a push over and have one of the most coordinated defense with a great Keeper in this tournament.

People should stop underrating this Super Eagles team but rather support them.

But i wish to correct something nothwothstanding your point if they are igbos or not. You see the names ovia, Irabor, Isibor are pure Bini names and have solid interpretable meanings in Benin language. Do you hear me. Although the argument you gave for ovia is intelligent, i will take that the Igbo ovia has a meaning independent of that of the Benins but not isibor and Irabor,Otabor those are pure Bini names with very sensible relatable meanings, you cannot give a sensible interpretation to it in Igbo, i dare you. The fact that the tribe Ika is heavily influenced by Benin is not even under contest. When you check the Archives of past kings of agbor, when you check the namings of several areas in agbor, it gives credence to this fact, anyone trying to argue otherwise is making a mockery of himself. Let me remind you that there is still a Bini community in agbor till date whose dialect is still 85 intelligible to the Binis till date
I admire intellectual challenge. But there is a problem my friend: you bought a wrong one.
For the Bini community in Agbor, I can testify of their presence. They are migrants to Agbor and not aborigines. They are called Ozanogogo by name. They themselves know there are not aboriginal but migrant based on their history. They are now a bilingual people who speak a native dialect of Benin called Oza and also understand Ika. Therefore, their position in Agbor cannot change overnight the Igbo heritage of the Ika people.

For names like Isibor and Irabor I stand fully that they are Igbo names. These names are bore mostly by Anioma people. But, before I bring my evidence to end this debate I throw a challenge to you. Kindly tell us their meaning in Benin grin
