SirVintageCock:You welcome brother. You are from the east while i am from the west. I wish you understand the pride in trully calling eachother "brothers" in this project "Nigeria" |
SirVintageCock:Then i can only wish you guys "Goodluck" #shalom |
SirVintageCock:even when not appropriate? |
Thane:i have worked with easterners on several occasions and all i have for them is respect because of their hardwork and doggedness. Whenever i read comments about this subject matter, all i feel is disappointment. Northerners, though first supported Boko haram but when it became obvious the group had unrealistic demands, northerners went against them in their numbers, criticizing them at all fronts. They tried all they could to separate their region, religion and boko haram. But easterners only find solace in challenging The Nigerian Army, threatening The Federation. No region has been that mean before. While they have all rights to express themselves, it was no where in the constitution to use violence. Even the constitution restricted most rights immidiately violence sets in. I pray this lovely region wake up and realize that peaceful agitation would be more beneficial, at least after independence, they wont start by first repairing things they are spoiling now. I know it may be hard for them to listen to the truth but someone must say it. some people must continue to say it. |
SirVintageCock:To protest under whatever guise at this volatile period is just not cool. Lets call a spade its name. They are fooling around with NA. You know theres an issue on this subject matter (vandal and NDA) and u want to promote it more. Its like northerners matching to celebrate dead boko haram members. I dont know why a tribe can dislike peace this much. It's just unreasonable. I pray easterners will start seing things from a positive view. |

MUMU is when you can't pay your children's school fees and yet have money to contribute to your church to build expensive schools which your children will never attend Odensin is when your brother needs money for school fees but you decide to use the same money to pay tithe. IGNORANCE is when you believe it when your pastor tells you not to live a worldly life yet he enjoys all the best things in the world; the fine houses, cars, jets, babes, etc while you are waiting till you get to heaven to enjoy your own. Nigerians are familiar with politicians and their rants whenever they lose a contest, Politicians are politician while erudites are erudite. It is illogical to wail because you lose after fighting a gallant fight in a tourney. I knew OAU had won even before results were released. An objective analysis of presentations by contestants should speak more. Both team tried but OAU deserves it more. The two judges did the best they could and the results justify their effort. But if you think othewise, dont forget they are human too and fallible. Your allegations against them is one against their credibility and such allegation ought to be backed by indisputable evidence. Now, @abuklaw, your name suggests that you are a law student which means you should be more logical in your deductions. If your assertion was right and OAU performed below expectation then other contestants' performance must have been below that of OAU representatives for OAU to have won it. "it is like something is wrong somewhere; are we acting script, are we pawns in the game of chess. OAU route to the final to me, is marred with irregularities" This statement of yours got me worrying about the future of this generation and our dogma that nothing could be achieved in Nigeria without bias..........i wonder what your comment would be if your school won the competition. My little advice for you is that you should consider the effort and resources invested in this contest before you utter demeaning languages like this one. @Neyoor, you guys did the best you could, whether anybody likes it or not, a winner must emerge and the runner ups must feel somehow but dont be a wailer. Lose to rise again. For the sake of those who cherich your contributions - be objective enough to accept defeat. Some of the rationale behind this contest is for us to come together, share knowledge and grow together; dont forget that. OAU, with no modicum of doubt, deserves this victory more. Its hard but live with that fact for now. #shalom |
Since i became a member of nairaland on 11 November, 2013, yesterday was the first time i read everything about a topic. It was really hot and everyone did the best they could. To the organisers, you guys are awesome. kudos!! |
Tourshaw:Unfortunately, my culture will not permit me to return your approach. Productive time deserves not to be wasted arguing on bygones. In the interest of our deserved victory (Great Ife victory).........shallom. |
Tourshaw:that is the difference between OAU products and others. OAU reps are there repping us well, fighting the course gallantly with no back up plan (supporter(s)) trying to attack opponents for them. PLS help ur better by far verywell by querying Great ife fighters.......they can handle it! To emaculate99 and OAUTemitayo, am proud of you. continue to make us proud......... GREAT IFE INDEED!!! |

COMRADE REUBEN ABATI'S VITUPERATION: AN HYPOCRITIC INTERVENTION. Reuben Abati was the Chairman Editorial board of The Guardian newspaper and later became Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan. For years, Abati has the ears of President Jonathan and was infamous for defending the misdemeanors of his boss. During my early years of political consciousness, I so much admired Abati's Opinion on Guardian newspaper every Saturday. Abati's write-ups inspired persons like myself to contribute on national issues even on the dailies. I was so elated to hear he was appointed Media adviser to President Jonathan. To my greatest disillusionment, Abati years at the presidency was a misrepresentation of his assertions on paper. Going through the Guardian newspaper Sunday 13th Dec, Abati lend his voice to the clamour of Great Ife students, condemning the terrific welfare condition and proffering ways forward. I must salute Comrade Abati for going the struggle, as this is commendable, however I will like to let him know that he was in the presidency for years and yet could not proffer such way forward. Maybe I should demystify, the horrendous welfare condition did not start overnight. It is a fallout of poor underfunding which President Jonathan's government is also guilty of, since he could not divert some of the Abacha loot to the sector but conveniently divert funds to is NSA account. During this period Mr Abati did not write to publicly advise his master to take this education sector seriously. The issue of poor welfare is not peculiar to IFE. I can say it on good note that OAU has a better welfare than most federal University but unlike their contempories, Ife students don't settle for mediocrity. The intense academic rigour could not permit us to keep mute in the face of such dilapidated and ill-capacitated infrastructure. Every OAU student is conscious and inherently abhors oppression. This is why we are championing the cause for qualitative education in Nigeria through proper funding and enabling learning condition. This is not only commendable but is in alignment with our historical responsibility to champion pro-students causes. We appreciate Abati's opinion, but we will appreciate him more if he can organise his paymasters to come around, donate and invest into our public tertiary institution. Preamble According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Mind is that part of a person that thinks, reasons, feels and remembers. It is often used to denote the way a person thinks or the intelligence of a person. It is the element, or complex of elements, in an individual that feels, perceives, thinks, wills, and especially reasons. Mind synonymously means brain, intellect, intelligence, psyche, wit, awareness, consciousness, memory, sentience and it defines our confidence and capabilities. Mind is one of the things that differentiated me from you, you from others. It is on the basis of this that your mindset differs from mine; and mine from others’. The mind is the accommodator, housing one’s integrity, personality, manners, perception and other traits which define one’s disposition and definition of everything around and within us. Mind sounds so trivial especially with the number of alphabets required to construct it. But the mind can make or mars any individual with its distinct responsibilities to humanity; depending on its state. In the name of humanity and responsibility; we often question people’s lackadaisical actions lashed out on others. Also, we often imagined the bases upon which people at the helm of affairs made certain decisions, and the mind-work factor surrounding such a conclusion. One thing is certain, whenever a person starts growing; his mindset starts forming the capability of its operation as well using the environmental and other factors as bases; which is why it is crucial, for a person to form the right mindset required to help him handle situations and challenges that life would propose. It is an ascertained fact that this country has more than required in terms of human capacity to build and sustain a great nation. However, our ways of thinking cum doing things has been hindering our efforts and progress as a nation. We kept on struggling, living and interacting with animosity and disunity; this must stop now. As a popular author has said that “the moment we stop fighting for each other is the moment we lost our humanity”. With a positive mindset, everything is achievable. State of things: Nigeria is perfectly blessed with enough natural and human resources. Our problems therefore lie in our state of mind. Our unrealistic, acrimonious, incongruous, iniquitous and bias manners of handling situations remain the major hindrances hindering our growth since time immemorial. In my own country (Nigeria), a defendant could blame a litigant in wrong for an avoidable wrong, thereby, giving a simple wrong undue importance; instead of doing what is right thing and avoid a silly argument. Our minds have been poisoned beyond our prediction. Friends only care about displaying/portraying superiority over others; lecturers only care about struggling for seniority, superiority, influence and other frivolous claims over others; neighbours only care about showing off to other neighbours; landlords only care about showing tenants that they are the ones in charge; security personnel only care about experimenting with unarmed and defenceless citizens just to earn fear and regard; it could have been another topic if the intent of these people is for the good. Instead we ought to devote all our strength, might and intelligence to promoting humanity cum social development with equality. As a result of the visionless, directionless, and animus tendencies embedded in our hearts, we have turned blind eyes to what we can do; how we can do it; when we can do it and to whom. A problem that requires 10 minutes to be solved now takes us weeks, months and at times, years. All our shortcomings and incompetency have been perfectly buried /hidden under the guise of pride, mistake, principle, rules, regulations and the likes. A recent release by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, seems to show the readiness of President Muhammad Buhari led administration to work assiduously on our mindset. We should always remember them in our prayers, so that God can aid and empower them to achieve the numerous great plans envisaged for Nigeria and Nigerians. Don’t forget that with a positive mindset, everything is attainable. A good example of our declining ability to reason is the suspension of activities of Obafemi Awolowo University’s Students’ Union by the school management. While the management reserved the responsibility to regulate and control the school and all the happenings around it; the suspension portrayed the management as a body who is fundamentally at war with freedom of speech and expression as enshrined in the nation’s constitution. The Students’ Union body on the other hand showed it now lacks the glorified and reckoned idealistic, intellectual and moral capability she used to be known with. Instead of the Students’ Union leaders to result to protest and faceoff with the school management, the union has what it takes to do things differently and ushered in new results, as H.G. Wells had said “Human history is in essence a history of ideas”. The union could build its own hostels from the due collected from students; or source for fund from alumni of the institution and other relevant individuals to build hostels for students; choose a day in which hostels would be sanitized; orientate students on the reasons why they must take care of their environment; ensure management’s rules guiding hostels are strictly adhered to by all stakeholder (such as number of occupants to not exceed the stipulated occupant, etc), so as to ensure that hostels are not misused. But instead of doing something to justify their intellectual capability, the union decided to path the old ways of doing things, protest; which has yielded no positive result till date. The management, on the other hand, has forgotten that the students have every right to protest the prison-like hostel they have been provided with, instead of handling the situation with all the deserved maturity and sensitivity, the management concluded that shutting down the school and suspending all Union activities would be the best solution. Well, this is a good test of the intellectual, conscious and vibrant rants of Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University. Nonetheless, the act of suspending Students’ Union activities ought to have been practice of the past by now. Nigeria has changed tactics; accountability at all level is the order of the day now. Students’ Unions are the watch-dog over the activities of management now, this is the reason why managements and unions must redefine their perceptive of administration and work harmoniously for the betterment of their various institutions. Hope you still remember; that with a positive mindset, everything is possible. According to Elijah Cummings, he says that “By providing students in our nation with such an education, we help save our children from the clutches of poverty, crime, drugs, and hopelessness, and we help safeguard our nation’s prosperity for generations yet unborn”. This led to the assessment of Nigerian students (aspirants, undergraduates and graduates) in justification of my subject of discussion. If we do this, we will realize that a good percentage of Nigerian students are mentally, academically and logically incompetent and unready to handle the challenges of our modern world. While some of the problem listed as affecting our educational sector could be blamed on the governments’ lackadaisical and irresponsible approach to education; the students also must take responsibility for the decline in required zeal towards education. According to webometrics rankings, Nigeria has more than 140 universities and none of them is within the first 18 in Africa; not to talk of international considerations. Nigerian graduates are now marked unemployable by private employers due to their inchoate training, demeanour and dispositions after graduation. The lackadaisical attitudes of our governments to proper fund education and ensure that probity is encouraged in administrations of universities led us to this sorry state. Most of the people attempting to commercialize education now had it cheap then even with free provisions, then why is it so hard to reciprocate? Instead of giving back to the society that did something so great for them; they concluded to frustrate the tomorrow leaders of that same society, what a pity! Youths are the leaders of tomorrow but leaders have been said to be readers, we must read a lot if we plan to lead at all. All it requires is a positive mindset. In general, Nigerians seem to not want anything to work. It is evident we are not mentally ready to dictate ways we wish to be governed. We have turned ourselves to tools in the hand of our politicians and public office holders to do to us as they deem fit. Whenever any corrupt practice is exposed, no matter whom the culprit might be; or his antecedent, no sane citizens of any sane country is expected to defend such a person unless proven innocent. But in my country, citizens would have divided themselves along ethnic lines and started justifying why the person must be freed even if the reason is unreasonable. Well since Viktor Frankl says that “A human being is a deciding being” am not totally stunned by this. Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi said in 2013 that ‘we (leaders) steal because Nigerians don’t stone us’; he forgot to add that they were celebrated for stealing. He was amazed of our demeanour cum mentality to criticize anybody trying to blow whistle on corrupt practices of public officials. Instead of giving strength to people like this (whistle blowers) we tend to criticize their antecedents; this is not good for the unborn generations. Nigerians must as a matter of urgency cum necessity discourage such practices as it gives to our leaders, tools to loot our hard earn resources effectively and without subjecting those looters to the ordinary laws of the land. In conclusion; The mind often receive little attention anybody but it remains, that part of us, which determines everything we do and everything we can do. We were created differently because we were expected to achieve different missions, this justify reasons why hurdles must not be allowed to mislead us; we must do everything to remain focus and resolute and avoid all forms of distractions. Anne Frank inferred that even “in spite of everything, she still believe that people are good at heart. This symbolises the reason why all our deductions and imagination must be centred on the inference that everybody has a good heart (even if situation is obstructing that fact); it is now up to us to understand our intent and expectations from everybody. Nigeria is full of opportunity but to know this, one must prayerful and think a lot. One salient distinction of youths of today and that of the past is their sense of responsibility. As Viktor Frankl had opined that “Each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible”. Youths of nowadays to be candid are at risk with almost everything in trend; is it the technology (phones, computers and other devices) or fashion or entertainment? The list is just endless. Though it is not an easy task but we must do whatever it takes to guard and be responsible to our own ability and in what our mind does. We all must live and think like the president of a nation (our mind) and we must not disappoint her subjects. We deserve to enjoy the abundant resources in this country after so many years of trouble cum unrest. We deserve to be happy and united in this country. In unity, we can and we will do great things to better co-existence among distinct tribes and groups that this country encompasses. We must never cease praying for righteous ones among our leaders and their families because it is not easy, even Student Union leaders governing at that level could testify to how arduous and strenuous leadership responsibilities could be; not to talk of governing a country as big as Nigeria. Another issue is the blackmail cum insults associated with these positions. While criticizing a corrupt public official, we must also appreciate the goods one. Don’t forget, just your mindset is needed to experience this impossibilities. God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, God bless the President, Muhammed Buhari. By Ismail .A.A |
Devotion to ones' country is a responsibility every government of any country expects from her people. While it is generally believed that with the presence of this salient characteristics in any country, no matter how less endowed (in terms of natural resources) they might be, such country would develop consistently, peacefully and collectively in all ramifications. Patriotism is the brain behind progress made by reigning countries of the world. Patriotism surpasses something that could be paid for. It surpasses mere support for ones country. It is the devotion to the welfare of one's country; the passion or ardent will to serve one's country and give whatever it takes in the preservation of its greatness. Nigeria is the giant of Africa and one of the country to reckon with in continent of Africa. Though the country (Nigeria) has passed through many hurdles, it remains a force in the emancipation and realization of greatness of Africa. No decision concerning Africa and Africans at this moment could be made anywhere around the world without input from Nigeria. Nigeria has maintained a rich profile and praise in the globe for a long period of time even till now, however, no matter how great a country could be, it needs supports of her people to reach greatness and maintain her progress. Nigerians really need their country at this crucial moment. Nigerians are eagerly waiting for their country to save them from maladministration, corruption and directionless government. Governments in Nigeria along with their various parastatals have neglected their source of powers. Section 14 subsection 2 article A of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria says that "sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this constitution derives all its powers and authority". But Nigerian government has consistently negate this provision in the practical sense. Nigerians have been subjected to governmental torture and mismanagement at all levels. Despite the rich resources at our disposal, Nigerians have continue to endure untold hardship with minimal expectations of a better future. We have representatives who are only loyal to their pockets and God fathers. It is in Nigeria that lawmakers would, in their large size, support a corrupt member against the law of the land which is a product of their effort. Nigerian lawmakers made laws for the good governance of Nigeria and also device means to checkmate the functionality of such law whenever it attempts to checkmate them. It is evidently clear that our lawmakers DONT KNOW THE DEFINITION OF PATRIOTISM, likewise, they are not concerned with the provision of Section 14(2)(a) of our constitution. Thanks to God we now have a president that we could look up to to right the wrong with our society. A president who is not just willing but also wield the know-how to pilot a complex and diverse country like ours. The questions to ask are that: Do we need patriotism in Nigeria? Can Nigerians be patriotic to Nigeria? What could be done to achieve selfless patriotism from Nigerians? Do we possess what it takes to celebrate patriotism? How can patriotism be celebrated for it to be encouraged? These and other salient questions must be answered by the appropriate body or authority whom the question relates. Nigerians deserve nothing but only the best. Nigerian government must, as a matter of urgency, man up to the occasion and save the suffering majority by checkmating the excesses of the enjoying minority. Government at all levels must be held accountable for all their misdeeds. People must be relentlessly educated and kept informed so as to reduce infringement of their fundamental rights. Nigerians, especially political and non political office holders must start developing, practicing, and preaching PATRIOTISM because without it, no country could do great things nor overcome her basic challenges. May God bless Nigerians, May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, May God bless Africa and Africans. |

UPDATED:- 83 senators pass vote of confidence on
Saraki
Eighty-three of the 109 members of the senate
have passed a vote of confidence on the leadership
of Senate President Bukola Saraki.
In a motion moved by David Umaru (Niger), the
senators pledged their loyalty to Saraki in the face
of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for
“false assets declaration”.
According to Umaru, “the senate remains solidly
behind Saraki and other principal officers of the
upper chamber”.
The Niger senator said the senate will not kowtow
to forces outside the senate who were trying to use
propaganda to rubbish the leadership.
Seconding the motion, Ahmed Sani Yerima
(Zamfara) said: “If anybody thinks that he can
influence the senate from the outside, he should go
and sleep.”
Saraki put the motion to a voice vote to which the
“ayes” carried the day.
Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara) was the lone voice
shouting a loud “nay”.
Marafa, an ally of Ahmed Lawan, thereafter
raised a point of order to quash the vote of the
senate on the leadership, but he was ruled out of
order.
He went into a rage, shouting and disrupting the
sitting.
The senate was held in a noisy hostage by Marafa
for at least 30 minutes.
Intermittently, he would rise in anger throwing
tantrums.
The action by the 83 senators means only a
minority of 26 senators have publicly expressed
their opposition or indifference to the senate
president’s plight.
His trial at the CCT continues on October 21.

JUST IN:- Senators in rowdy session over vote of confidence on Saraki Confusion has enveloped the senate after some senators passed a vote of confidence on Bukola Saraki as the senate president and other principal officers. The senators resumed today after a six weeks recess. During the recess, the senate president was docked by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations bordering on false declaration of assets while he was governor of Kwara state. Trouble started when Senator David Umaru representing Niger East senatorial district moved a motion on behalf of 85 others for a vote of confidence on Saraki’s leadership and other principal officers. The motion was seconded by Senator Ahmad Yerima, former governor of Zamfara state. However, when Senator Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central) raised a point of order, Saraki refused to recognize him. The red chamber became rowdy afterwards. More Update Soon...... source: correspondent |

ORACLE1975:Much ado about nothing….ignorant senators are making loud noise without actually reading the constitution and following precedent. Senate President has no right under the law to summon executive members, except Senate committee using its oversight function. As far as I can tell, there is no single senate committee at the moment. Dubious Saraki has not made public the list of senate committees let alone select its membership. As such, what is the point of summoning an executive member to your office? Saraki is either power drunk or clueless of the law he’s quoting. The Permanent Secretaries should continue to ignore Saraki’s summon until the right committee(s) in Senate, using their oversight function, summon them. If Saraki needs any information, he should either constitute the committees in the senate chamber to do their oversight function, or ask the presidency for debrief. That is how it is done in a civilized world. We did not elect 2 presidents. We only elect Buhari. The law is clear. Section 67(2): “A Minister of the Government of the Federation attend either House of the National Assembly if invited to express to the House the conduct of his Ministry, and in particular when the affairs of that Ministry are under discussion.” Saraki is being clever by half with section 67(2) interpretation. We need not look further than the precedent for interpreting this aspect of the law. In the past, only the committee have right to summon executive members under oversight function. Given we don’t have ministers at the moment, one can argue that PS are performing the function of the ministers in various agency of government. The senate & house committee on finance, economy, budget et al are the only body that have the constitutional right, using their oversight function, to summon the PS for questioning. Neither the Senate president office nor house speaker’s office has the constitutional right to summon the PS to their office at will. Only the President can do that given it is part of executive branch. |
