Thanks for your reflective response. Generally many pple on nairaland are zombies and wailers combined. They lack power of independent thinking and respond to issues rashly.

I believe all the teachers in that school can't be that mad as to single that girl out for such punishment. We all know that the teachers seemed to have overreacted but we as parents also sometimes behave alike when we face an unyielding or a child who is not ready to change.

We should be sensible in our comments. Our borrowed attitude to issues of discipline is gradually dipping our future leaders in serious danger. Cane is synonymous with teachers and Wether we like it or not, there are children in schools and at home that will never sit up to correction until they are given a dose of it.

All that is needed is when doing the needful be it the use of Cane or counselling, it should be done with love, and not out of anger or provocation.

Pls was that canning done with love?? That's a clear accumulated anger and provocation. Most teachers doesn't knw how to deal with children likewise some parents

That kid is obviously rude and should even be expelled from the school. You sound like one of those rude and callous parents who do not have respect for teachers and will not see anything wrong with your child even if he or she insults the whole. one day this girl will get a gun and shoot you in the head. continue spoiling her. spoilt stupid,silly, rubbish girl.

It beats my imagination how so many of us reason, yes! The little girl was very wrong returning the slap and might also be very arrogant in school, it's possible that the whole teachers have just been waiting for this opportunity because of her character, but let's be sincere to ourselves; is there any one that can beat his/her child like this? I bet even u or the teachers can not.

With my level of experience with children, I can tell u that this type of "inhuman" punishment can not change that child, it will rather make her worse.

No matter how stubborn a child is, there is always a way to draw him/her closer and talk sense into him/her. It's so unfortunate that most of out teachers doesn't know how to deal with children.

And for you that think you can not raise your child like that, u may be wrong cus no matter how hard u try sometimes, u will never get it right. Out of 3 or 4, there might be that stubborn one.

I'm the VP of a public secondary school. We know the problems of delinquency in children. The teachers who did that to her are not mad and they are parents too. That girl must have contravene school rules. Disciplinary measures in school include flogging, but not to maim a child. Most parents take sides with their children on matters of discipline and even assault the teacher for correcting the child. It is even more embarrassing to observe that people make sarcastic comments on this issue. We flog our children at home when they go wrong. Spare the cane and spoil the child!

Not to that extent, I can assure you that such level of punishment doesn't really correct a child, it rather makes her more stubborn

Quite possible but the lasting motivation to act must come from within. I've guys that fire me up every once in a while but it's still MY responsibility to seek out ways to push myself into action. It's my duty.

Very good question.

Nothing can take the place of purposeful ACTION. No amount of planning and talking will do the job; you've got to ACT. Action changes things.

After reading dozens of books on entrepreneurship and risk taking, I just had to go out and do the job because I knew talking wasn't enough.

One of the ways I push myself to act whenever I don't seem to find that edge is by visualising the profits I'll get from that action, the negative consequences of indolence and excuses. The future is so important we have to ACT. Till we act, nothing changes.

I bet u can't imagine the magnitude of what you've done.

I just stumble on this trend now and I am really marvel at the kind of selfless service Glamour rendered here and the impact she has made in the lives of the serious minded fellow.

I actually have a basic knowledge on bag making from the one I learnt during my services year and was at the vent of taking it up since no Job yet after 2 yrs before I saw this, I must confess that I am inspired.
