awosmart:It has been a while I commented in this thread. ayosmart i thought Astron imported camborough pigs, and when you use the term terminal sire line, in my limited knowledge of pig genetics you mean the boars imported are solely for producing market pigs and not establishing a breeding line. I happen to have seen the boars at iart, they have large white, landrace, duroc and one called genconverter. The desire for pure bred pigs is universal but hybrids are better suited for most commercial farms. We need to specialise and allow breeder farms handle the management of the pure lines. Large white and landrace are reputed sow line breeds while the duroc are terminal. The current rave camborough is actually a large white /landrace hybrid. I believe farmers should know this and know what they are buying. Pure breeds are far more expensive than hybrids. Lastly management of these breeds is very vital so in your desire to aquire, have in mind that the purest breed with suboptimal care is a waste of resources. I would love to see a picture of your animals ayosmart. |
Mine too was not aware of the meeting gxworld: |
You guys should leave madam Ngozi alone she is fighting a bigger personal battle now. I only pray that YouWiN isn't infected by corruption because that will spell doom for the program. Let due process take it's full course. Are you aware that some awardees absconded with their first tranche? |
Have you guys read your agreement letter lately? Government can cancel or modify the youwin grant at anytime. Antagonizing the ministry of finance might backfire so i would advice you allow them conclude their due process. Before you attack me, i am among the 215. We would loose if we try to embarrass the government. During my spot check on Thursday i was expressly told that i should seek alternative means of funding while the ministry of finance take their time. Online aluta will backfire. |
iyomomo:I just changed my feed that's all. A friend said he used penstrep for 2 days. |
iyomomo:where is your farm and what do you feed? I had same experience last year and i suspected mouldy feed. I would suggest you invite a vet. |

Thanks for digging up this thread again. I dug to the 4th page before I gave up. Nice to be back, Lagbaja your analysis na baba! Deji is setting the standard of business integrity. My breeder pigs are sired by large white and landrace boars while our sows could be pure large whites or landraces but usually our sows are hybrids. We call them breeders becos we selected them from good producers with excellent mothering traits and good lean growth. They have a minimum of 14 teats for both male and female. I will share pics later. The brother who inquired about piggery biz, I would suggest fattening model for quicker returns except you have the patience to wait for 2 years. Starting a poultry or fish farm with a piggery isn't a good idea except you have enough money for each enterprise. A piggery/poultry combo is great if well planned with adequate distance between them . it is great for cash flow and cash is KING in this business. Wish you all the best! |
Na waoh! This story would have more credibility if pictures followed it. Let's wait for Amaechi's response. |

50-70 weaners pigs for sale at Ijebu Ode (Fattener grade) Serious enquiries 08023116432 (whats app) |
glowdot4:The whole house is here for you |
Niyoga:I am based in ijebu ode not oke aro |
This is open market Deji is a committed pig farmer and his efforts to improve our genetics should be commended. He is offering breeders not Fattener pigs. I bought 6 breeder 12 weeks old growers from obasanjo farm @ 30k each. So where is the fraud. If you are a breeder you wouldn't mind the cost of introducing superior genes into your brood. I am buying a few from him becos I am looking for some traits I want to stamp into my pigs. If you can't afford his pigs it is Ok but I do not subscribe to the insults. It is an open market. I sell my breeders for 5k I don't sell my fatteners someone came from oke aro and packed 25 she wanted 20 so fellow farmers if u see what u like and like what u see u won't mind paying for it. |
Our breeder weaners enroute oke aro. Nice to be appreciated

please share picture of farm and the structures for sale |
I think mine was bad management of the gilt and feed too. Learnt my lesson next time I will not be too far from the farm. @ Efosa I bought the landrace for 30k each @ 12 weeks old from obj farms Ota. |
The gilt was approx 8 months old and toped 70kg at the time of mating. Deija(I prefer Deji joor) your comment brings up another important issue of relevance of weight in breeding animals in the tropics. I read in a book on pig production in the tropics that large gilts and sows are important due to heat and all. I get my best results from my big sows I have adopted 60-70kg as weight @ first mating after an awful experience with 40kg(bad advice from a senior who visited my farm) Can experienced farmer shed more light on this? Farrowing crate fabrication will start on Monday. |
Not to derail this thread exclesoir na my oga so let's move on. Can we discuss cannibalism in nursing pigs. I read it is common in first time gilts has anyone been able to overcome it? My obj landrance ate 5 of her 8 piglets I have mated her again and I no want take chances. |
I am a pig farmer and have invested heavily in it permit me to defend it when comments that portray it in bad light is shared. Earlier in this thread someone claimed pork was fatty and therefore inferior to other meat I stood up my beloved pork. Food is a very sensitive issue people respond differently and some over react. I was a poultry farmer I know what farmers went through during the 2006 bird flu saga. The sun newspaper had a screaming headline "Eat chicken and die" so you can imagine the ripple effect of that stunt. Little children have been taught to wash all fruits before eating. So my summary is that there is nothing special zooniotically (I formed it :-) ) about pig poo. This forum should promote ethical pig production well produced pigs do not transmit worms. |
excelsiorfarm:Which manure does not have health challenges if not properly handled? You are a respected commentator on NL with large following such statement will create fear that pig manure has higher health risks than others. Zoonosis, also called zoonotic disease refers to diseases that can be passed from animals, whether wild or domesticated, to humans. Kindly share with us how pig manure is more of a risk than other farm yard manure |
excelsiorfarm:The original question was if pig waste was suitable as manure not a comparison between pig and poultry manure so your response was sort of telling us to look for poultry waste instead. Cow manure is inferior to poultry's (the best ) but farmers use it with excellent results. |
excelsiorfarm:On what scientific fact are u basing your assumption on sir? I use my pig manure on my plantain and vegetable farm with excellent results. Pls I dey find market for my manure no spoil am on assumptions sir |
jojofarms:Bros I don't know why your product is this costly becos animalcare's weaners mash is 1800 but I use top feed super starter when I feel too lazy to compound my feed. Pls see how u can bring down this price. |
bloodmeal isnt the cause of your sow eating their piglets read the article above |
No 'alert this week' from YouWin this week ![]() |
Krak:The greatest harm we can do to YouWin is to .make it political. The last time I checked I didn't win becos of my political affiliation to any political party but merit and God's favor . let's keep it that way. |
In layer production you need to define ur target, egg size or egg numbers and feed consumed. The difference in egg size is minimal and the egg numbers neutralises any difference. Egg size is dependent on layer weight at first egg, protein(amino acids) and energy content (oil). Give a balanced ration and ur birds will perform to their genetic potentials if properly raised. People have their preferences I prefer brown I have achieved 98% livability from day oldto 18weeks but never got that with black. |
Brown layers are more efficient than black and less susceptible to heat stroke. There used to be a difference in the sale price as spent layer becos black are usually heavier than brown but now they are priced alike. If you want to maximise ur layer bird go for brown. There is a school of thot that says black are hardier birds than brown in my experience brown birds exposes bad management faster so if you handle ur birds right brown birds iSA brown rules! |
Nonybb:When the phantom war starts I hope you will lead from the front lines and not come and hide amongst the Yoruba cowards as you called my people. Talk is cheap if you see war you go run ask your elders. Women and children are worst hit. Before you kill yourself over these politicians pls how has ur own community benefited by having ur brother in office? 2015 will come God's will will be done and Nigeria will make progress all enemies of our great country will die by their own weapons if they do not repent! Enough of all these war threats if you fight it will be amongst ur people who will suffer your people ask those in borno, yobe , Adamawa how their place be! Nigeria will survive and thrive !that is my belief that is what I shall experience. |
