Religion / Meet Constantine The Great: The Man Who Changed Sabbath From Saturday To Sunday by Ebiragirl(f): 7:20pm On Feb 11 |
Meet Constantine the Great: The Emperor Who Changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday Constantine the Great, born in 272 AD in Serbia, rose to prominence as Emperor following the death of his father. Initially a pagan, Constantine’s embrace of Christianity marked a pivotal moment in history, as he played a significant role in reshaping religious practices within the Roman Empire. Traditionally, Sabbath, observed on Saturday, held significance for the Israelites, ordained in the Ten Commandments as a day of rest and worship. However, Constantine’s influence heralded a shift towards Sunday worship among Christians. This change stemmed from the belief that Sunday held symbolic importance as the day of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and the appearance of the Holy Spirit to his disciples. Constantine’s conversion to Christianity led to a favorable stance towards the faith, culminating in the end of Christian persecution and the establishment of churches across the empire. Under his reign, Sun worship waned in prominence, replaced by the growing influence of Christianity. Culture / African Tradition: Meet The Machina Emirate, Where Snakes Pay Homage To King by Ebiragirl(f): 5:57pm On May 10, 2023 |
African Tradition: Meet The Machina Emirate, Where Snakes Pay Homage To King Snakes are generally seen as dangerous reptiles, but in Machina Emirate, Yobe State, they are revered. Here, it is believed that royal blood runs in their veins. In fact, they consistently pay homage to the Mai Machinama palace, where their ancestor was born, together with one of their ancestral kings, as twins. According to history, a queen gave birth to twins in the palace, a human being and a snake. Being a snake, it couldn’t stay long with its mother, thus, it found its way into the rocks behind the emir’s palace. It is said that its descendants still enjoy all the privileges that come with royalty. It is also believed that, just like the Machina Emirate, the forebear of the snake procreated kings, queens and princesses that were of equal status with their relatives in the kingdom. Corroborating the story, the Emir of Machina (Mai Machinama), His Royal Highness, Dr. Bashir Albishir Bukar (OON), said the snake started its generation like regular human family immediately after it went into the rocks. “Since then, their lineage has continued, just like human beings. I am the 77th Mai Machinama, so there must be one snake that has attained the same position in their kingdom,’’ he said. Bukar revealed that during his father’s installation as emir, many snakes came out and gathered at the palace entrance and socialised with people without causing any harm. He recalled a mysterious encounter the snakes had with the media crew that came to cover the event. Out of curiosity, some of the journalists attempted to photograph the snakes, but the moment they fixed their cameras on them, they got out of sight. “After the futile struggle, they all gave up and went back with miraculous stories to tell. It is only by our acceptance that one can get their pictures. Our children snapped pictures of the snakes within the palace because they consider them as their brothers,” he said. Religion / Ramadan 2023: Rules For Married Couples And Relationships (kissing And Intimacy) by Ebiragirl(f): 2:41pm On Mar 13, 2023 |
Ramadan 2023: Rules For Married Couples And Relationships (Kissing and Intimacy) During the holy month of Ramadan, there are lots of strict rules on what you can and what you cannot do as a married couple and in relationships. The month of Ramadan involves a whole month of daily fasting between early morning and sunset, and sure with meals before and after including five daily prayers throughout the day. Fasting during Ramadan don’t only means going without any food and drink but also involves abstaining from other regular activities in order to focus your mind and body on the spiritual reflection, religious study and doing good deeds for others. Many worshippers often prepare with voluntary fasting in the preceding month, along with trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle and increasing their prayers and worship. But there are still many questions about what exactly is permitted during Ramadan. What are the rules for married couples and relationships during Ramadan? During the hours of fasting on each day of Ramadan, any intimate activity is not allowed. This means it’s only ok for couples to kiss, hug, cuddle and have sex in the hours before fasting begins and after it ends – as long as they are husband and wife. Islam doesn’t approve of sexual relationships between those who are not married nor does it permit any kissing in public. Muslim scholars say that during Ramadan, unmarried couples should be apart and only spend time with their own families, in order to avoid any temptations to be affectionate or sexual that could arise from being in other’s company. It’s possible to get married during Ramadan but there are no special rules for newlyweds, so they won’t be able to have the usual celebrations of food and drink or be intimate during the hours of fasting. For this reason, it’s best to have the wedding ceremony at least two weeks before the month of Ramadan begins or postpone it until after Ramadan is over.
