My battle with sickle cell – Singer Adekunle Gold

Adekunle Kosoko, a Nigerian singer popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has revealed his struggle with sickle cell anemia.

In a bombshell newsletter to fans on Friday, the ‘Sade’ crooner wrote in detail how the disease, compounded with his parents’ dire financial status, negatively impacted his childhood.

He also narrated how he once suffered a painful crisis that made him plead to God to take his life.

The newsletter read in part, “It feels liberating to finally be able to share this part of my life with you, to finally be able to speak my truth. When I talk about how I struggled to get to where I am today, I need you to know that my struggle was real.

“I was born with sickle cell disease. It was life and death, it was physical, mental, financial, you name it and I went through it all. It was tough, painful and frustrating. I lived with a sickness no one around me understood, I lived with restrictions all my childhood.

“I wasn’t able to join some of the most minor child play and liberating activities like going out in the rain. The times when I insisted and rebelled against my parents’ orders and went out in the rain, I would end up having a crisis.”

While his parents could not afford the constant bills, he appreciated his mother for always taking him to church for prayers.

The singer also narrated one of his “most intense crisis” at the age of 20, which resulted in him praying to God for death, and later served as a turning point in his life.

“I begged God to take my life because I couldn’t understand what I did to deserve the pain my body and mind was under,” he said. “As usual, with sickle crisis after some days, the pain subsided and God asked me; ‘That end you begged me for, do you still want it?’ Of course, I said no, and that was when everything changed for me.

“That was when I realised that I had been given another opportunity to live my dreams and to show those that mocked me that sickle cell anemia was never going to end me, that it was never going to hold me back from my dreams and aspirations.”

AG Baby revealed that while he still had the symptoms once in a while, the disease had taught him resilience, discipline, and built his character as a whole.

Encouraging fans with his story, the singer admonished those dealing with sickle cell disease to ensure it did not define them.

“Don’t allow it to limit your dreams or cap your potential. Spread your wings and dream big! Hope to see you soaring the big skies,” he concluded.

Like most of his Elder. Brothers, Alhaji Adamu Atta Was bourn at Okeneba in Okene in October 18th 1927.

His mother hailed from Nupe speaking area of Ajaokuta. He. Graduated from the Quranic school at the ripe age of 8years. He did his primary school Education at Okene N.A and proceeded to the Middle School, Okene for his mid-education studies.

He left Nigeria in 1935 and 1947, he was admitted at the achimota college, Ghana. After his advanced level studies in Ghana, he left for London where he did his in law and was called to English bar as a member of th Lincoln’s Inn, London, in 1960.

On his return to Nigeria, he was appointedby the then Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) as its Legal Adviser and secretary. He held the post for 13 years, from 1963 – 1975 when he got caught up with nation-wide perge of the public service under General Murtala Ramat Mohammed in 1975.

He later left for active politics when the then ban on party politics was lifted by the General Olusegun Obasanjo Administration in 1978.

He was then appointed as a member of the constituent assembly of 1978 – 1979. He joined the then National Party of Nigeria (NPN) under whose ticket he contested and won the 1979 Gubernitorial election in Kwara State.

He thus became the first Executive Governor of Kwara State, having defeated his major opponent, chief josiah sunday Olawoyin, of the then Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). His Deputy was Chief Jimoh Shittu from Offa.

Gunmen on Friday attacked a Police station in Eika-ohizenyi, a community in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one police officer on duty.

The gunmen reportedly bombed the station in a raid that lasted for about two hours, being the fourth of its kind in Kogi in the last few weeks.

Residents of the community who were thrown into panic, reported that the gunmen stormed the station at about 12 midnight, opened fire on the station and eventually brought it down with explosives.

The Police officer killed in the attack was identified as Inspector Jibril, fondly called Yellow.

The Kogi State Police Command has visited the scene of the attack for first hand information and investigation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP SP William Ovye Aya in a press statement issued on Friday said consequent upon the attacks at Okehi Area Command in the early hours on Friday the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Edward Egbuka, visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment.

He noted that he has equally ordered the deployment of additional operational assets consisting of Operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area......

A 17-year-old teenager, Promise Okon has revealed how her husband Benedict Anieze smashed their one month old baby to death at their residence in the Idimu area of Lagos.

It was learned that the couple had an altercation that degenerated terribly when he angrily threw his baby on the floor, smashing her head in the process.

According to Promise Okon, “the incident happened at our apartment at No 5 pipeline Road, Idimu when we were having a misunderstanding, my husband threw our one-month-old baby girl on the floor.

“She died instantly and he immediately set our apartment on fire. It took the intervention of neighbours to put out the fire,” she added.

It was gathered that after crushing the baby to death, the suspect proceeded to set the house on fire with his weeping wife and the dead child inside the apartment.

But for the timely response of their neighbours who rescued Okon and put out the fire, she would have been burnt to death as she was yet to fully recover from the cesarean section she had a month ago while delivering her baby.

The case was reported to Idimu Police Division which they immediately arrested the suspect.

During police interrogation, the suspect said it was the evil spirit that possessed him, that pushed him to the act.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the investigation is ongoing, and that the command is treating the matter as a case of murder and arson.

“The suspect has been arrested and would be transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, on Tuesday.”

Takor Veronica, a Nollywood actress who had recently celebrated her birthday, was found dead in a hotel about a week after her death.

The body of the deceased was discovered in a hotel in the Nyinma area of Makurdi, Benue State, shortly after her birthday celebration on March 12.

While on a team tour around Jabi lake Abuja, an unknown lady who seems extremely happy amongst every other team mates got everyone emotional with her life story as she was asked the most painful yet a blessing experience she ever had.

She said and I quote, “How my ex. boyfriend’s carelessness got me my ideal man” and today, I am the most luckiest and happiest woman on earth.

She narrates: I am so happy today because I gave my kids the best dad they could ever dreamt of having. I was a naive 20 years old girl who got into a blinded relationship with the wrong person that seems perfect.

Life was fun at first even though I had this fear of being used and misled by my 29 years old man because he was way older than me. We bonded really fast and a year passes us by and their was no sign of responsibility in him but yet insisted that we get married at second year.

I grew to learn that a man is in the right position of building a woman’s career but in my own case, I, a 20year old girl was the one trying so hard to lay a great and better foundation for a 29 year old man because I want a better life for my children.

Aside pathetic anger issues, lack of understanding, unstable mindset and incorporation was another deteriorating attitude from him that got my soul down completely. This hinders my motive of being called his wife.

Second year cross and the pressure of being his wife was mounted on me dearly despite his less than 10k salary and I on the other hand was earning the same from the job he got for the both of us. All efforts to make him realise and understand that 16k isn’t enough to make a family was proven abortive.

Since he insisted on marriage but have refused to man up, I decided to look for solutions by informing friends and calling for help because I felt we both need a good job to start up a family. I am a graduate with skill, creative and experienced in my field. Same as him but revolve his knowledge around one place hoping on future family shares.

With prayers, he got into service and I was really glad and happy to hope it’s a bold step. We set plans and he messed it up at his first and second month but I didn’t give up and this time, I insisted he start saving with me else we part ways and he obliged.

POP was knocking for him and I started looking for alternatives, a friend informed me about a space and without hesitation, I applied and also inform him to apply. Luckily, he got picked and he kicked it off after an interview with claims that the pay was too small, I didn’t dispute it.

Fortunately for me, I got an offer even though the pay was little but at least, it will build my portfolio and I will be exposed to opportunities that will benefit the both of us. A young Nigerian man identified as Bonus Emmanuel Chigozie, allegedly beat his pregnant wife, Itunu Lawal Emmanuel, to death.

It was gathered that the sad development which left everyone in shock happened at their residence in Okota area of Lagos State.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the couple got married about four years ago.



He added:

“Emmanuel started abusing his wife after they had their first child. She suddenly became disgusting to him and he always looked for every reason to be violent.”

The source further narrated that Chigozie started cheating on his wife to an extent that he started threatening her to leave the marriage.

Chigozie will also abuse Itunu physically. He will beat her severely if she dare ask for the N2.7million she loaned him.

Itunu got pregnant with their second child, he abused her until the baby died inside of her. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, both Itunu and the baby died on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

It was gathered that the husband took to his heels when she was hospitalized but returned when he was informed that his wife was dead. He came crying, stating that he was not at home.

Recently, I observed that lots of parents and teachers have been complaining about their children’s bad handwriting. It is the joy of every parent to see their children writing greatly even though you never had a nice handwriting, so also to the teachers teaching them in school.
