I really want to know how tribalism benefits the masses in politics. We have had persons from different tribes become president but this has not in anyway better the lives of the 'common man' from same tribe as the president.
For instance, after the return to democracy in 1999, Obasanjo and Tinubu have become president, but I can't see how that is benefitting the masses in the south west. Katsina state is now filed with IDP camps, villages ransacked, village heads kidnapped just when Buhari became president. When Jonathan became president,..."Even road to Otueke no dey".. Which means Jonathan's presidency didn't benefit the masses from Bayelsa. I am quite sure that if an igbo man becomes president tomorrow, it will still not benefit the masses from the East.

Maybe I am the only one who's not seeing how tribalism in politics benefits the masses. I really want to know how who becomes president from a particular tribe benefits the masses from same tribe.

It does not benefit anybody.........Any politician that wants progress should be doing the exact opposite of tribalism.....he should engage in detribalised politics! MKO Abiola actually won the 1983 elections in Anambra state......and garnered 45% of total southeast votes.........whoever advised APC to go full code red on ndigbo in Lagos did themselves a world of disservice! It will come back to hunt yorubas at a later date!

The kind of crime committed points out to well coordinated weapons distribution. There are only three sources of military grade weaponry in Anambra:

1) The Nigerian police. Interestingly over 2,000 guns have disappeared over the years from police formations in Anambra which suggests a level of complicity between police officers and criminals something that needs to be investigated by special forces.

2) Gunrunners. There has been little investigation to identify and arrest gun salesmen in trading towns like Onitsha and Nnewi. The trucks that ply the state sometimes carry contraband items like guns and bullets.

3) ESN - The igbos continue to underplay the dangers of an armed paramilitary group claiming to fight for liberation. From Liberia to Sudan such groups usually morph into monsters competing with the state for power. The gangs claiming to be ipob armed faction is directly responsible for the increasing insecurity in the state.

Solutions:

1) Cameras. The armed gangs that conduct car snatching, kidnapping often ply the expressways of the state. Yet the state cannot even conduct simple intelligence of identifying suspicious vehicles on the road. There are no cameras monitoring major roads or arteries or reading vehicle license plates.

2) Hand held XRay Scanners- Armed military officers tactically experienced should man checkpoints on the roads not to restrict flow but to identify suspicious drivers and vehicles for further surveillance. Xray Scanners can quickly find vehicles transporting hidden guns.

3) Criminal profiling. Govt should recruit special investigators to build profiles of criminals in the state and to monitor their communication and social networks. From this intelligence profiles of gun runners, kidnap gangs and financiers can be built for prosecution.

4) Police probe. Police should be investigated for gun running and ties with cultists, kidnap gangs with bad eggs identified and prosecuted. The state must act quickly on this.

5) Military action - the military must be engaged to flush out the camps of kidnap gangs in forests around the state in a concerted action. It must operate in Anambra, Imo and Enugu.

A much better analysis but aside from all the "kinetic' measures you listed .......I am also a firm believer in the criminology concept of " The broken window theory"......the theory states that "visible signs of disorder, like a broken window left unrepaired, can signal a lack of social control and encourage further crime and disorder in a neighborhood, suggesting that addressing minor offenses can prevent more serious crimes from occurring"....The kidnap kingpins started their career in crime from small hustles like touting and pickpocketing..........The Onitsha/Nnewi axis is chaotic and largely ungoverned spaces that breed crime! It is not about the high volume of business alone, the Anambra state government has to put law and order in place in Onitsha and deny petty criminals the room to warp into kidnap and robbery kingpins! Chinese cities do far more street business than we do ...yet there is order everywhere!

People no longer fear government nor do they regard its laws and regulations! From sanitation laws to parking laws, to even curb the menace of women selling vegetables and fruits along woliwo is proving to be mission impossible for government...most laws are unenforced! Soludo is trying but he really needs czars in key sectors of the state........I know he has appointed an SSA on security............he needs to appoint a czar to decongest Onitsha/nnewi commercial centers................there is a need to build a new interstate and Intrastate bus terminal in the second niger bridge axis....................I like the way Patrick Mbah approach.......damn the consequences and move ahead!

There is no way you can tax (IGR) your people to death and don't expect them to be poor.

For context, IMO state GDP is nearly twice bigger than that of Ogun state, yet the latter (Ogun) generate more GDP than the entire SE.

Also, the average daily trade volume in Kano is around N20 billion, that over N7 trillion yearly, but Ogun generates far bigger IGR.

These show that Ogun state is over taxing their citizens to massage their ego as the second largest IGR generator.

At the end where does it lead them?

Over 68% Multidimensional Poverty Rate, about 2% more than Kano.

I am looking at all this from a purely economic benefit point of view! A functional seaport in the east will grow the economy by at least 5% ..........reducing inflation all the way! I find it difficult to understand the way the minds of black Africans work especially Nigerians.
