That's not even their capital. Google lilongwe. We tend to talk too much in Nigeria and boast with our mediocrity. Yet the facts of our underperformance are stark and evident. Nigerian government can't organize electricity, its airline is dead, its refineries comatose, its telecom bankrupted, its postal service a mockery, its roads death traps, its schools cattle sheds.

Anambra built a government house which it promotes as the single greatest achievement of the incumbent governor. A collection of basic looking buildings is seen as a symbol of achievement not something complex and awe inspiring.

It builds standard roads and trumpets this as an achievement. Not as a responsibility.

Its October go and look at Harare and Pretoria on Google Images. The beautifully laid out streets are lined by purple flowering jacaranda trees that bloom in October. That's foresight, design.

Go ask what happened to the flame trees planted by the colonialists along some of the roads in Onitsha or the mango trees planted along old road. Old Enugu road is now defined by primitive markets spilling onto the streets and thousands of keke and shuttles weaving carelessly down it. No single bus stop. No single governor has thought of running a public bus service connecting Awka to Onitsha via all the adjoining towns to make movement easy and comfortable.

Cities should not be village extensions. Three quarters of our cities are unpaved, lack proper drainage and signage. Obiano at least tried to give streets sign posts but what happened to them? Another administration claiming circular economy allowed abokis to go on a rampage with carts singing iron kwandem. Most of those sign posts are now nowhere to be seen. Sold off by a poor gang allowed to roam wild by government.

Other people choose order and law not groveling in chaos and filth and calling that civilization. India is a bad model for anyone but that accommodation of anyhowness is what Nigeria has gravitate towards.

For us as igbos the tragedy is that Nigeria is almost certainly on its way out. FAAC is pathetically tiny for a nation of 240m. Anambra a state of 6-8m has a budget per capita of less than $40 per person or 60,000 naira per person. Therefore how public money is spent matters tremendously.

The officers captured in the viral video have been identified as:

3. Corporal Ejikeme Victor

The officers have been arrested and are presently in detention, while the Command has commenced a thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in cultism and other related activities. Consequently, an Orderly Room Trial has been scheduled to commence on Monday.

The south east cities and infrastructure can be a lot better if Igbo governors were not in the business of self enrichment with improving the welfare of their citizens an after thought. Because if they were then what you would see on ground, after billions in faac revenue, are cities approximating places like blantyre, malawi with good planning and decent infrastructure not India 2.0 where everywhere stinks of haphazard design and corrupt tendering and procurement.

For example, contrast roads built by state and federal. The federal roads designed and built by federal contractors follow road codes to a T. The Enugu-Onitsha expressway has emergency lanes, crash barriers and proper signage. But state roads or the ones constructed by the state? They dont follow codes and are full of engineering mistakes all over the place because they were designed and awarded improperly. The ramps built by obiano is a classic example. The underpass is a traffic nightmare instead of alleviating traffic. The footbridge built by Obi at unizik junction has some of its pillars on the expressway. Soludo is not left out. His geniuses at ministry of works put speed barriers on an expressway basically turning the expressway into a local road!

But there's more. You look at simple basics like town planning. Only Ngige had the sense to relocate markets to places they could be walled off to prevent their natural tendency to interfere with traffic that basically were turning Onitsha into chaos. But his successors? They can't even organize basic markets in the state. Instead they award more contracts to organizations like Atma who revel in turning the front faces of markets into theaters of chaos in order to collect numerous under the table taxes from illegal hawker fees, illegal keke loading bribes.

Not for them thoughts for how to create new organized markets or introduce city wide public bus system or sufficient bus parks of parking. These would make cities more livable and alleviate the hardships of common folk.

Then they market projects with questionable ROI. Multi billion naira airports that barely transport 500 people a day and multi billion government houses that barely house more than 5,000 people.

Anambra has received over $2 billion over the past 25 years. There is very little on ground to suggest that even a quarter of that or $500m has been dedicated to vast infrastructural investments. Instead, a lot less has been spent with praise singers posting pictures of one or two developments and singing it to high heavens. For a wakeup call go see what Blantyre, Malawi looks like and that's a very poor African country.

It's remarkable the number of times I argue with Ndigbo b'anyi who would claim that after Lagos, Anambra is some kind of industrial and commercial nerve center of the country. And spin conspiracy theories about us actually having among the most populated regions in the country when all available data (such as active telecom subscribers and fuel allocation) makes it clear the SE is the least populated. Many of us are simply disconnected from reality about the SE and its strategic importance in Nigeria. To worsen matters, it's also one of the least attractive investment destinations in the country. Already, we were not quite bequeathed by nature with the resource abundance (natural and mineral resources, arable land, strategic geographic location etc) of the Middle Belt, Niger Delta or the South West - then worsened it with the IPOB/ESN stupidity, sowing and bountifully reaping unrest and anarchy in the region in the name of separatist activism. Let’s not pretend anymore—there’s a powerful undercurrent in Nigeria's political waters today, and it’s flowing fiercely against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. What’s happening isn’t just the usual political noise. It’s a carefully orchestrated campaign by a group of powerful interests who feel threatened, not just politically, but economically and historically. And the reasons they want Tinubu out of power, at all cost, go deeper than most people realize.

This whole struggle didn’t start today. To understand what’s happening now, we must go back to a conversation between Prof. Omo Omoruyi and General Ibrahim Babangida, a conversation that sheds raw light on how deep the Northern establishment’s fear of Southern leadership runs. That conversation, documented in Omoruyi’s book The Tale of June 12, reveals a mindset that is both old and dangerously persistent.

At the heart of that discussion was a message from the Sultan of Sokoto. He warned General Babangida that allowing the election of Chief MKO Abiola, a Yoruba man and fellow Muslim, would undo the gains the North had made since independence in 1960. Imagine that. Even though MKO was well-liked and not seen as a threat in personal terms, his ethnic identity alone made him unacceptable to Northern power brokers. The Sultan made it clear that the North could not afford a Yoruba presidency. He believed it would shift the balance of power and allow the South-West to reverse decades of Northern dominance.

According to the account of Prof. Omoruyi, a message was sent to Babangida: the June 12 election must not go forward. And Babangida, in a moment of candor, told Omoruyi that Yoruba people behave as if Nigeria cannot move forward without them, adding that the Igbo should teach them a lesson. It was a disturbing statement. But it revealed the hidden bitterness and competition that have plagued Nigeria's leadership structure for years. It also showed how much fear and hatred of Southern ascendancy still exists behind closed doors.

What played out in 1993 is no different from what we are seeing today. The same fear, the same desperation, the same tactics. President Tinubu has become a symbol of what the Northern elite fear most—a Southern leader who is independent, bold, and difficult to control. Tinubu is not Obasanjo, who was handpicked and trusted by the same establishment to protect their interests. Unlike Obasanjo, who once ruled as a military head of state and was widely seen as someone who would "play ball," Tinubu came through the hard way. He built his political machinery from the ground up, led the opposition for years, and earned his victory through grit, strategy, and the power of the people. And now that he's in power, he is not dancing to their tune. That’s the real problem.

What has Tinubu done that is shaking the foundations of these powerful interests? He’s disrupting their long-standing economic privileges. The removal of the petroleum subsidy alone cut off a major pipeline of wealth for many of them who had benefited for years without any accountability. Oil bunkering, illegal mining, black-market foreign exchange deals, non-payment of taxes, and outright stealing of public funds in public service without questioning were part of the economic lifestyle of Northern elites. These acts weren’t just tolerated—they were part of an entrenched system of plundering Nigeria. Tinubu’s reforms are exposing that system and trying to shut it down.

And the reforms, though tough, are not without purpose. They are aimed at building a stronger economy, reducing waste, and making the country work for everyone—not just a privileged few. But those who have fed fat on the nation’s commonwealth for decades see it differently. To them, Tinubu’s policies are not reforms—they are threats. They see every policy as a move to dismantle their empire. And they cannot take it.

So, what are they doing? They are regrouping (COALITION). They are calling on their “best eleven”—political heavyweights, media propagandists, religious leaders, and ethnic champions. They are aligning with angry politicians, including those from the South who lost out in the last elections. They are funding protests, sponsoring misinformation, and sowing discontent. They are trying to present Tinubu’s government as a failure. Not because he has failed, but because they are desperate to make the people turn against him.

This playbook is not new. It’s the same strategy they used against former President Goodluck Jonathan. Remember how they resisted every effort to transmit power to him after the death of President Yaradua? How they labeled him incompetent, weak, and clueless? They made the country ungovernable and pushed him out using every conventional and unconventional method at their disposal. Now, they want to repeat that same script—only this time, the target is Tinubu.

But Nigerians must ask themselves: is this really about Tinubu? Or is it about a group of people trying to protect their unchecked access to power and wealth? The bitter truth is this—if we allow these forces to succeed, Nigeria will return to the same cycle of backwardness we’ve been trying to break since independence. The old system will come back stronger, bolder, and more ruthless. The same forces that have looted our resources, underdeveloped our regions, and used religion and ethnicity to divide us will be back in control. All the efforts to create a fair and just Nigeria will be wasted.

No one is saying President Tinubu has done everything perfectly. No leader ever does. But what he represents is a turning point in Nigeria’s political history. For the first time in a long while, the person at the top is not a puppet. He is not afraid to make hard decisions. He is not waiting for approval from a hidden cabal. He is trying to steer the country in a new direction—away from waste, corruption, and economic sabotage. And that is why they want him out.

The fight against Tinubu is not just about politics—it is about power, privilege, and control. It is a battle between the old Nigeria and the new Nigeria. A battle between those who want change and those who want things to stay the same because they benefit from it. A battle between progress and sabotage.

But this time, we must not let them win. We must see through the lies, the propaganda, and the distractions. We must recognize what is at stake—not just for Tinubu, but for all of us. If they succeed in removing him, they will also remove every hope for real change in this country. If they succeed, they will send a message that no Southern leader who is not a puppet can ever survive in power. If they succeed, they will kill the dream of a balanced Nigeria where leadership is based on merit, not manipulation.

This is the moment for Nigerians to stand firm. Not because Tinubu is perfect, but because Nigeria deserves a chance to be governed by someone who is not beholden to any hidden masters. We must support the reforms. We must endure the temporary pain for the promise of lasting gain. We must resist the attempts to throw the country back into chaos just to satisfy the greed of a few.

Because if we allow them to remove Tinubu now, we are not just removing a president—we are removing our last chance at true national progress. Let’s not betray our future. Let us stay the course. Let us protect the reforms. Let us defend the hope. Because this time, the change must not be stopped.

You don't tell a state what it chooses to allow and what it chooses not to allow. Just like you have friends, out of your friends, you have those that you can allow to stay in your house, sleep over or even spend weeks with you. However, you have some that because of there attitude and wicked ways, you will never allow them to know your house not to talk of staying with you in your house in just 1 day. The attitude and behaviour of different people will determine how you relate with them.
Back to this issue, you will never see an hausa or fulani man dragging your land with you and call it no man's land.
You will never see them dragging your political structures with you and want to impose a foreigner ad your governor or state reps.
You will never see them disrespectful to there host. They focus on there business and do there things without noise.
They obey the laws of the land of your host and will never engage in what the state will not approve of.
They are like the friends we would love to have around in our house because they respect us and in return we respect them which is mutual.

But you see this other people, they are the kind of friend you should keep at distance. They are the kind that will come to your house and will never coordinate themselves, jumping from one place to another. They can turn your house upside down, they can even set you up with one of your neighbours. They will disrespect you, do all sort that will even make you feel uncomfortable. They can even dominate you and before you know, people may even start to think they are the owner of the house you are staying.

That is who they are. So YES, cry all you want, wail all you want, Lagos prefer a fulani/hausa friend and would permit them to do some things because there intentions are pure than an igbo friend that would turn things upside down, disrespect you and even want to take your land from you.

And you don't deem it fit to look at yourself and ask if you aren't doing something wrong. But your arrogance and pride will not let you see all that.
