In politics, it is easy for leaders to become distant. Offices change, titles grow bigger, and suddenly the gap between the people and their representative becomes wide. But for Ikwo South Constituency, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa has taken a different path, one that keeps him close to the people he serves. To many in Ikwo South, he is not just the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. He is someone they can reach. Someone who listens. Someone who shows up when it matters. Whether it is a community concern, a family challenge, or a call for development, he has remained the kind of leader who does not shut his door to his people. This closeness is what defines his leadership. He has made accessibility a habit, not a slogan. People don’t struggle to be heard, because he has built a reputation for listening; not occasionally, but consistently. Beyond accessibility, he has shown competence in a role that demands strength and wisdom. As Speaker, he carries heavy responsibilities, yet he still ensures that Ikwo South is not left behind. Balancing state leadership with constituency needs is not an easy task, but he has managed it with steady focus and clear commitment. Those who know him well often point out something simple but important - his humility. Despite his position, he does not carry himself as someone above the people. He speaks with respect, listens without pride, and engages without arrogance. That quiet humility has earned him trust in places where titles alone cannot reach. But perhaps what stands out most is results. Because at the end of the day, people don’t live on promises, they live on what has been done. From empowerment efforts to community support, from interventions to development-driven actions, his record shows consistent effort to improve lives in Ikwo South. He is also seen as a bridge-builder; someone who brings people together rather than divide them. In a political space where differences can easily create tension, he has often chosen unity, dialogue, and cooperation. And above all, he carries the responsibility of defending Ikwo South interests seriously. Whether in legislative discussions or broader political engagement, he ensures that his constituency is not forgotten or ignored. For many in Ikwo South, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa represents exactly that; a leader who stays close, works quietly, and delivers steadily. Representation is about results, and in his case, the results speak for themselves. To God be the glory. Theophilus Ifeanyi Igwe, Chief Press Secretary to the Rt. Hon. Speaker. June 19, 2026.

WHEN DO WE SAY A LAWMAKER HAS PERFORMED? How do we measure the performance of a lawmaker? Is it by the number of speeches he delivers? Is it by political noise on social media? Is it by media appearances and endless publicity? Or is it by the tangible impact of his representation on the lives of the people? A lawmaker's performance is measured by the quality of laws he helps to make, the motions and resolutions he champions, the development he attracts to his constituency, the opportunities he creates for the people, and the positive transformation his leadership brings to society. By these standards, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Member representing Ikwo South State Constituency, has undoubtedly distinguished himself as one of the most impactful lawmakers of his generation. Under his leadership, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly has passed numerous people-oriented bills aimed at strengthening education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, business development, peace and security, electricity, investment promotion, youth empowerment, and economic growth. The House has also adopted landmark motions and resolutions that continue to shape the future of Ebonyi State. Beyond legislation, his footprints are visible across Ikwo South Constituency. From free medical outreaches and health insurance support to road infrastructure, educational assistance, agricultural empowerment, youth and sports development, employment opportunities, water projects, solar-powered street lights, peace-building initiatives, and humanitarian interventions, his record speaks louder than political propaganda. Within three years as Speaker, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa has demonstrated capacity, competence, compassion, and commitment to the welfare of his people. His achievements are not mere promises; they are realities that can be seen, touched, and verified. The verdict is simple: by every objective standard of legislative performance, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa has truly performed. And when a representative has delivered quality legislation, attracted development, empowered the people, promoted peace, and justified the confidence reposed in him, the logical response is continuity. For the progress already recorded and the greater possibilities ahead, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa deserves re-election in 2027 to continue representing Ikwo South State Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. Performance deserves recognition. Results deserve continuity. Service deserves another mandate. To God be the glory. Theophilus Ifeanyi Igwe, Chief Press Secretary to the Rt Hon Speaker. June 17, 2026.

Since its inauguration in June 2023, the 7th Assembly has carved a reputation for proactive legislative action and collaborative engagement with the executive arm, anchored on the People’s Charter of Needs; a blueprint for sustainable development. The House has passed a series of impactful laws designed to catalyse economic growth, improve infrastructure, strengthen social services, and enhance governance structures across the State. Among these are laws establishing agencies such as the Ebonyi State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, the Ebonyi State Rural Access Road Authority (EBRARA), the Ebonyi State Road Fund, and the Ebonyi State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency; each aimed at boosting enterprise development, improving connectivity, and ensuring the availability of quality health commodities. Freshandfitpod:When people run out of facts, they resort to body shaming and food metaphors. That alone tells us everything we need to know about the depth of this comment. First, weight gain is not evidence of looting. If that were the case, half of Nigeria’s political class; and a good number of private citizens would already be serving life sentences. Governance is measured by policies, legislative outputs, peace in the House, and service delivery, not by the size of a man’s waistline. Second, accusing a Speaker of “looting” without a single verifiable fact, audit report, or court process is not bravery; it is reckless ignorance. In a constitutional democracy, allegations are proven with evidence, not with insults typed in anger. Third, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly does not personally control the state treasury. If you understood even the basic separation of powers, you would know that lawmaking, not fund disbursement, is the core responsibility of the office you are casually maligning. Lastly, reducing political discourse to personal abuse does not make you courageous or outspoken. It simply reveals a lack of understanding of governance and a poverty of argument. Criticize policies, challenge decisions, debate ideas; but when your best contribution is body shaming, you’ve already lost the argument. Nigeria needs informed critics, not loud mockery. Do better. |

PEACE AS A PRIORITY: EBONYI STATE DEMONSTRATES RESPONSIBLE GOVERNANCE THROUGH DECISIVE LEGISLATION On Tuesday, Ebonyi State House of Assembly passed a bill to delist Amasiri Development Center in a move to restore peace and protect lives, following the consideration of an executive bill transmitted to the House by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. The passage of the bill represents a bold, timely, and people-focused response to persistent security challenges, reaffirming the commitment of the Ebonyi State Government to the sanctity of human life and the preservation of peace. By taking this decisive legislative action, the State has demonstrated that no administrative structure can be sustained where lawlessness and violence undermine public safety and social order. The executive bill is particularly significant for its preventive and corrective value. It is designed not as a punitive measure, but as a strategic intervention to halt further bloodshed, discourage future acts of violence, and restore stability in affected communities. In this regard, the legislation sends a clear signal that peace, security, and lawful conduct are non-negotiable foundations of governance in Ebonyi State. The benefits of the bill extend beyond immediate security concerns. A peaceful environment is essential for economic activities, social cohesion, and sustainable development. By acting decisively, the government and the legislature have taken a crucial step toward rebuilding trust, enabling community coexistence, and creating conditions for long-term growth and prosperity. Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru deserves commendation for his foresight, courage, and proactive leadership in initiating the executive bill. His administration has once again demonstrated that human life and public safety remain central to its governance philosophy. Equally commendable is the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, whose steady leadership ensured a thorough, responsible, and orderly legislative process. The Honourable Members of the House also merit praise for placing the collective good above all other considerations and for supporting a bill aimed at protecting lives and promoting peace across the State. Overall, the passage of this executive bill stands as a clear testament to purposeful leadership, effective collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government, and an unwavering commitment to peace and security in Ebonyi State. The Bill was passed during Tuesday’s plenary session at the Legislative Complex, Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa. While reading the letter from the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Speaker explained that the proposed legislation was aimed at halting further violence, safeguarding human lives, and restoring lasting peace in affected communities. The Governor’s letter was admitted as a working document of the House following a motion moved by the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Nkemka Okoro Onuma, and seconded by the Member representing Izzi East State Constituency, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam. Contributing to the debate, the Deputy Chief Whip and Member representing Ishielu South State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chukwu Arinze Lucas, condemned the killings in Edda and urged Members to support the Bill in the interest of peace and public safety. He stressed that no sacrifice is too great when the objective is the preservation of human life and societal harmony. "There is no price too high to pay for peace when human lives are at stake. “Every lawful step taken by the State Government to restore peace must receive the full support of this House." He stated. Similarly, the Member representing Ezza North-West State Constituency, Hon. Chikaodiri Nomeh, commended Governor Nwifuru for his proactive and timely intervention to de-escalate the crisis between Amasiri and Osu-Edda communities. He described the killings in Okporojo, Osu-Edda, as brutal and extrajudicial, noting that the delisting of the Development Centre would serve as a strong deterrent against future acts of violence. Also speaking, the Member representing Ezza South State Constituency, Hon. Friday Ogbuewu, praised the Governor for his ingenuity and peace-driven leadership. He observed that violent incidents linked to the area had affected not only Okporojo but also neighboring communities. He clarified that the Bill was corrective rather than punitive, emphasizing that the action was taken in the overriding interest of peace and the collective good of Ebonyi State. In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, stated that the passage of the Bill demonstrates the premium placed on peace, security, and the sanctity of human life by the Government of Ebonyi State. He noted that the legislation would serve as a deterrent to any community or group inclined toward lawlessness, stressing that its objective is to forestall a breakdown of law and order across the State. “This Bill demonstrates the priority the Government of Ebonyi State places on peace, security, and the sanctity of human life. “No community or administrative structure can continue to exist where lawlessness and barbaric acts undermine public safety and order. “The delisting of Amasiri Development Centre is a preventive and corrective measure aimed at forestalling further breakdown of law and order in Ebonyi State.” Speaker Odunwa stated. The Speaker further observed that the persistence of violent acts within the jurisdiction of a Development Centre negates the very purpose for which such an administrative structure is created, thereby justifying its delisting. "Where the purpose of a Development Centre is defeated by persistent violence, the State must act decisively in the interest of peace.” Following legislative consideration by the Committee of the Whole, the House adopted the Bill and resolved that, pursuant to Law HAB No. 001 of 2026, the delisting of Amasiri Development Centre reduces the number of Development Centres in Afikpo Local Government Area from five (5) to four (4). Consequently, the total number of Development Centres in Ebonyi State now stands at sixty-three (63). The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Edene Uche Blessing, to formally communicate the passage of the Bill to the Governor for assent. In addition, the House adopted a report presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam, which made far-reaching recommendations aimed at strengthening local government administration. These include periodic capacity-building programmes for Council Chairmen on project management, financial accountability, and leadership; in-house training for local government staff to improve efficiency; inclusive financial decision-making processes; and payment of outstanding salaries, allowances, and entitlements owed to Vice Chairmen, Councillors, and other officials; among other recommendations. The plenary was adjourned to the next legislative day through a motion that was moved by the Chief Whip of the House, Chief Nkemka Okoro Onuma, and seconded by the Member representing Ivo State Constituency, Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu. Theophilus Ifeanyi Igwe, Chief Press Secretary to the Rt. Hon. Speaker.
