EBHA EDUCATION COMMITTEE COMMENDS GOV. NWIFURU OVER INVESTMENTS IN EDUCATION SECTOR.

The chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo has commended the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his commitment to transforming the education sector in the state.

Hon.Barr Nwodo, gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo.

The Committee Chairman who represents Ebonyi North West Constituency, described the Governor’s policies on educational infrastructure, payment of subvention, and award of scholarships to 500 students for a 5-year degree programme at the College as “transformative and visionary.”

According to Hon Nwodo AloysiusNwodo, the initiatives are laying the foundation for a more educated and empowered generation in Ebonyi State and will make the state’s education system the envy of other states.

He also lauded the Provost of the College, Prof. Benedict Mbam, for his administrative ingenuity, which has led to the introduction of 36 academic programmes and significant infrastructural development in the Institution.

In their remarks, the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Joseph Ununu, Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu of Ikwo North, and Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam of Izzi East, urged the College management to sustain the tempo and called on the Governor to do more for the institution.

Responding, Prof. Mbam said the College had recorded remarkable progress under his leadership, with 36 programmes and 597 students currently enrolled. He listed key projects to include construction of modern story building hostels for 300 female and 350 male students, a storey-building ICT Centre, perimeter fencing, and full electrification of the campus.

Prof Mbam highlighted some challenges facing the institution to include lack of official vehicles for principal officers, low student enrolment, and poor Internally Generated Revenue.

The Dean, Faculty of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Uduma, who spoke on behalf of staff, appealed to the state government to gazette College staff for pension and gratuity benefits so that retired staff can have something to fall back on and also informed the House Committee that the staff has cordial relationship with the Provost.
In a vote of thanks the Registrar of the college Mr Emmanuel Akpukwa appreciated the visit of the Committee which he said was timely.

The Committee also paid a familiarization visit to Blessed Martins University, Amagu Ikwo where the Committee Chairman Hon.Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo commended the proprietor, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogah, for investing in private education and creating jobs in the state.

He expressed satisfaction with the facilities in the University and employment of qualified staff and urged the students to make good use of them.

The Committee Chairman maintained that the establishment of Blessed Martins University by the Federal lawmaker Rt Hon Chinedu Ogah was a demonstration of patriotism, philanthropy and a sincere commitment to complementing government efforts in expanding acess to quality tertiary education in the state.

Hon Nwodo commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for fostering a climate of peace and stability in Ebonyi State, noting that the prevailing security and harmony have created a conducive environment for both the public and private sector to flourish.

Leading the Committee round the facilities of the Institution, he Deputy Rector, Rev. Sr. Judith Ojukwu, said the University, which comprises the Institute of Science and Technology and the College of Nursing Sciences, has 12 accredited programmes, over 100 staff, an ICT Centre, a clinic, a library complex, and modern hostels and organised prompt graduation ceremonies .

In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Provost of the Institution Mrs Onele Juliana Ezinwanyi thanked the committee for the visit which she said will ginger them to be more productive.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD PRODUCTION COMMENDS PROGRESS OF WORK AT FEEDMILL FACTORY, SAYS PROJECT WILL BOOST FOOD SECURITY AND YOUTH .

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Food Production Hon Onyebuchi Ogbadu has lauded the quality of work at the ongoing Ebonyi State Feedmill Factory, describing it as a bold step by the Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru administration to reposition the state’s agricultural sector.

He made this commendation during an unscheduled oversight visit to the project site by the Committee.

Speaking after inspecting key components of the facility, Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu representing Ivo State Constituency expressed satisfaction with the standard of work being executed by Anglozortic Nigeria Limited, the construction firm handling the project.

He noted visible progress at the staff quarters, administrative block, and the completed basement of the factory structure, stating that the development reflects the commitment of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to improve the welfare and economic base of Ebonyi people.

The Committee Chairman futher stated that the establishment of the Feedmill Factory is an economic-based policy of the present administration. When completed, will not only ensure mass food production but also create direct and indirect job opportunities for our teeming youths across the state.

Hon Ogbadu urged the contractor to maintain the current tempo and deliver the project within the approved timeline without compromising on quality.

Responding, the Director of Anglozortic Nigeria Limited, Prof. Richard Eze conducted the Committee round the site and gave updates on the project’s progress.

Prof. Eze said the company has completed the underground basement of the factory, completed slabbing of the warehouse ,while the storey staff quarters has reached roofing stage and the administrative block is at decking stage.

He assured the Committee that Anglozortic Limited remains committed to delivering a world-class facility in line with specifications.

Prof Eze appreciated the Committee for this visit and assured that the observations and recommendations made will be implemented.

The Feedmill Factory is expected to enhance poultry and livestock feed production in the state, reduce dependence on imported feed, and lower the cost of food for Ebonyi families when operational.

EBHA COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION LAUDS VC ICT UNIVERSITY OFEREKPE AND PROMISED MORE RELATIONSHIP.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo has commended the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his commitment in advancement of educational standard in the state especially the construction of senior staff quarters and procurement of equipment for technical students at ICT University Oferekpe.

Hon Nwodo made the commendation when the House Committee on Education paid an oversight function visit to Ebonyi State University of ICT Oferekpe Agbaja Izzi .

The Committee Chairman futher stated that Governor Nwifuru has shown unwavering dedication in improving educational infrastructure by constructing two universities ICT and Aeronautics Universities to ensure massive enrollment of Ebonyi Citizens into tertiary Institutions.

Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo asked the Vice Chancellor to provide the committee with stàff strength and students enrollments saying the committee is interested in seeing proper administration of the Institution.

He lauded the vice Chancellor Prof Enerst Egba for getting accreditation of twenty programmes which he said will promote digital literacy.

Contributing the member representing Izzi West Constituency Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri urged the Vice Chancellor to ensure adequate publicity of the University programmes while the Deputy Leader of the House Hon Joseph Ununu commended the Vice Chancellor for his administrative ingenuity which has brought progress in the area.

Also Hon Henry Sunday Eze representing Ishielu North and Hon Onu Ukpai representing Ohaozara West Constituency said the visit was aimed at achieving the best and reminded the University Management the paramount importance the state government placed on education to the people.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University ICT Oferekpe Prof Enerst Egba informed the committee that the university has gotten approval for 19 programmes in 2026/2027 academic session with target of 1500 students and that thier cut off mark is one hundred and fifty for all courses.

Prof Egba equally told the committee that the State Governor has provided buses for both students and staff and that 183 students benefited from Nelfunds of Federal Government.

He appreciated the House Committee on Education for the visit and appealed for more support.

In a vote of thanks the Registrar of the University Dr Chuks Eze Obia eulogised the Committee for the visit which he said was needful and timely.

WHEN DO WE SAY A LAWMAKER HAS PERFORMED?

How do we measure the performance of a lawmaker?

Is it by the number of speeches he delivers? Is it by political noise on social media? Is it by media appearances and endless publicity? Or is it by the tangible impact of his representation on the lives of the people?

A lawmaker's performance is measured by the quality of laws he helps to make, the motions and resolutions he champions, the development he attracts to his constituency, the opportunities he creates for the people, and the positive transformation his leadership brings to society.

By these standards, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Member representing Ikwo South State Constituency, has undoubtedly distinguished himself as one of the most impactful lawmakers of his generation.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON POWER AND ENERGY EULOGISED RURAL ELECTRIFICATION BOARD FOR GOOD JOBS.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Energy Hon Igu Chikezie Nwankwo has expressed satisfaction over the quality of work done by the Haptrick Ventures handling electrification of Seventeen villages of Oferekpe Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He made this commendation when the Committee visited ten sub stations of the projects site to inspect the progress of work.

Hon Igu Chikezie Nwankwo representing Ohaozara East State Constituency lauded the contractor for ensuring that the work is in line with the contract agreement and urge him to keep the pace and complete the project within the scheduled time.

The Committee Chairman commended the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for his commitment to have a robust development of all parts of the state stating that rural electrification project is one of the legacy projects of the Governor and urged people of the State to continue to appreciate the developmental strides of the Governor Francis Nwifuru who is keeping up with his promises.

The lawmaker extolled the activities of the chairman of Ebonyi State Rural Electrification Board especially the proper supervion of the electrification projects which ensured tangible work witnessed by the Committee .

Expressing thier views, Deputy whip of the House Hon Arinze Lucas Chukwu representing Ishielu South and Hon Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West Constituency commended the contractor for splendid job adding that the state government will not accept any shoddy job and that was the reason behind the visits of the Committee to the project sites that falls within its jurisdiction.

They thanked the State Governor for embarking on electrification of I CT University Oferekpe and its neighbouring villages which they said will reduce rural urban migration.

The Chairman Ebonyi State Rural Electrification Board Engr Godwin Nwankwo who conducted the Power Committee round the project sites explained the various stages reached at each site and that with the coperation and dedication of the House Committee on Power and Energy, the Rural Electrification Board stand to benefit more as all projects embarked upon shall be completed and according to specifications.

He said to ensure security of the projects, each electrification sub station has been installed two solar lights and CCTV Camera.

Responding, the manager Haptrick Ventures Engr Patrick Ibe thanked the committee for making out time to inspect the project and promised to deliver the job within the scheduled time.

The project sites visited include ICT University Oferekpe Junction sub station, Azuda village Sub Station, General Hospital Oferekpe sub station, AIioma village sub stations, Others are Obegu village,Ndiochuba village, Ndubulofia one and two villages and ICT Oferekpe Junction two sub stations.

HON KELVIN KENECHUKWU OKEH (KENOK) EMERGES APC CANDIDATE FOR EZZA NORTH EAST STATE CONSTITUENCY.

The Member representing Ezza North East Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon Kelvin Kenechukwu Okeh (Kenok) has emerged as the candidate of All Progressive Congress Party (APC) for the 2027 general elections following his victory in the party's primary election conducted across five electoral wards of the Constituency.

Hon Kelvin Okeh secured the party's ticket at the APC Pramaries amidst a large turnout of party faithful and supporters across the Ezza North East Constituency.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, the state lawmaker Hon Kelvin Kenechukwu Okeh expressed gratitude to the Governor of Ebonyi State His Excllency Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Party leaders, stakeholders,voters,and supporters for giving him another opportunity to represent the Constituency at the State House of Assembly .

In a decisive victory for the APC House of Assembly primary election held nationwide, the member representing Ikwo North Constituency and APC consensus candidate for Ikwo North Constituency Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu has emerged triumphantly as the APC candidate for Ikwo North Constituency in the forthcoming General elections.

The lawmaker who secured a total of 10,761 votes across ten wards of Ikwo North Constituency was declared the winner of the elections by the Electoral Committee Chairman, Hon Nwenyi Kizito.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu who participated in the primaries in his Ndiagu Echara Ward 1 collation centre at CPS Omege Echara appreciated stakeholders, voters and party loyalists who came out in large numbers to support him on his reelection bid come 2027. The lawmaker who was warmly impressed by the mammoth crowd reiterated his commitment to consolidate on the pro-people's charter of Needs agenda and to justify the unwavering solidarity that has been given to him in the primary election poll.

HON GODWIN ABIRI EMERGES WINNER IN APC HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PRAMARIES CONDUCTED IN IZZI WEST STATE CONSTITUENCY.

Izzi West State Constituency All Progressive Congress Party (APC) primary election held on Wednesday 20th May 2026 witnessed heavy mobilisation of party members and supporters across across seven wards of the Constituency with Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri featuring as consensus candidate.


Hon Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly who secured the party ticket with highest number of votes across the wards of Izzi West was declared the winner of the election by the Electoral Committee Chairman Hon Ogbonnia Okorie .

Hon Okorie while declaring the result appreciated the APC members for coming out in thier thousands to participate in the primaries saying it proved that there is hope in electoral the country.

Speaking at Agbaja Central School Nwofe after his emergence , Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri commended the State Governor Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for been actual leader and a democrat and thanked the stakeholders and the entire APC supporters for thier loyalty , trust and belief in his political vision, urging them to remain peaceful and orderly as he would make the Constituency and APC Party proud in his second tenure.

The lawmaker eulogised Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for the level playing ground and peaceful atmosphere that enabled all aspirants across the state to be elected as candidates.

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, has congratulated workers across Ebonyi State on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, reaffirming the commitment of the House of Assembly to policies and legislation that promote workers’ welfare, productivity, and sustainable development.

Chiefs Odunwa gave the message, marking the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, where workers from different sectors gathered to commemorate the annual event.

The Speaker described workers as the engine room of governance, economic growth, and societal progress, noting that their dedication, discipline, and professionalism remain critical to the continued advancement of Ebonyi State.

According to him, “This significant occasion provides an opportunity to honour the invaluable role of workers as the engine room of governance, economic productivity, and societal progress. HON. CHIEF ABIRI GODWIN ABIRI SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PUT OVER 40 STUDENTS ON HIGH PARADE

The Member representing Izzi West State Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, has continued the disbursement of scholarship awards to students in his constituency, numbering over Fourty beneficiaries and amounting to over seven million naira.

The event, which took place at his Ogbagharu village, Ndiechi Ezza Inyimagu Community in Izzi LGA, equally witnessed the donation of school bands and the inauguration of a four-classroom block built by Hon. Chief Godwin Abiri for Ogbagharu Community Primary School.

Hon. Chief Abiri thanked the State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for providing better opportunities for Ebonyi people to thrive, describing the establishment of two universities, including the ICT University Oferekpe, as one of the best things that have happened to people in the area and Ebonyi State in general.

The lawmaker stated that his decision to invest in education was to ensure that benefiting students do not experience interruptions due to financial difficulties in their academic pursuits. He also advised students who are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

He appreciated the Godwin Abiri Scholarship Foundation (GASF) for discharging their duties creditably and promised to increase the number of beneficiaries under the scheme in the near future.

Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri maintained that investment in education outlives a generation, adding that he is committed to sustaining the program for as long as possible. However, he cautioned beneficiaries against complacency in their academic work, noting that poor performance could lead to disqualification.

Speaking also, the Chairman of the Godwin Abiri Foundation, Hon. Paulinus Alegu, described Hon. Abiri as an exceptional leader whose close relationship with the people enables him to understand and address their needs.

The Chairman of the occasion and member of the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, Hon. Chris Uchaji, commended the lawmaker for the laudable initiative, especially at a challenging time, and urged the students to justify the gesture.

- SPEAKER ODUNWA EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN LASTING PEACE AS EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT MOVES TO RESOLVE BOUNDARY DISPUTE BETWEEN EKPOMAKA AND INYIMEGU

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, has expressed confidence that the final verdict of the Ebonyi State Government on the lingering boundary dispute between Inyimegu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo Local Government Area will guarantee lasting peace and stability in the area.

Chief Odunwa made this known when he led the State Peace Implementation Committee on an inspection and fact-finding visit to the disputed land, accompanied by representatives of both communities, security personnel, and government officials.

The Speaker, who also serves as Chairman of the Peace Implementation Committee, said the visit was necessary to enable government officials obtain first-hand knowledge of the terrain and disputed boundaries before the final decision is reached.

Speaking after the extensive exercise, Chief Odunwa thanked God for the successful completion of the assignment and commended all participants for their endurance, cooperation, and commitment to peace.

“We began this journey through the bushes and forest from about 10:00 a.m., and by the grace of God, we have been able to trace the boundaries,” he said.

He conveyed the goodwill message of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to the communities and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting the government’s final decision.

“His Excellency sends his felicitations to these communities for honouring this peace process. He has asked me to urge everyone to remain peaceful as we await the final verdict. Whatever decision the government takes will be in the best interest of the people,” he stated.

Chief Odunwa further praised the spirit of unity displayed during the exercise, noting that peaceful coexistence remains the only sustainable path forward.

“You can see how we moved together, joked together, and worked together even inside the forest. That is how it should be. Fighting and killing are unnecessary, and that is what this government is determined to stop,” he said.

He assured the communities that Governor Nwifuru remains fully committed to a fair and transparent resolution of the dispute.

“The Governor also directed the Surveyor-General to personally participate in this exercise to ensure that accurate facts are obtained. I can assure you that in the shortest possible time, government will make its position known, and I believe the verdict will be fair to all parties,” he added.

Also speaking, the Surveyor-General of Ebonyi State, Surveyor John Igbede, said his presence at the site was in compliance with the directive of the Governor.

“The Governor directed that I should be here personally. We are here strictly for fact-finding as expert witnesses. We are not taking sides. Our duty is to ascertain the true position on ground,” he said.

The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barrister Sunday Basil Nwankwo, commended Governor Nwifuru for his strategic leadership and commitment to peace.

“We thank His Excellency for being a strategic thinker. We have confidence in his wisdom and leadership, and we believe he will arrive at a decision that will be fair to everyone and bring this dispute to an end,” he said.

The Traditional Ruler of Okpoitumo Ikwo Autonomous Community, Eze Ezekiel Oyika, also praised the Governor for initiating the peace process and urged both communities to take advantage of the initiative and embrace peace and reconciliation.

Representatives of the two communities, Mr. Simon Nworie of Ekpomaka and Mr. Simon Opherekpe of Inyimegu, expressed appreciation to the Ebonyi State Government for the intervention and pledged to accept the final verdict in the interest of peace and progress. They also expressed optimism that the government’s decision would usher in a new era of harmony and lasting peace between both communities.

EBHA COMMITTEE ON SOLID MINERALS ASSURED CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR INVESTORS IN EBONYI STATE.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Solid Mineral Development Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu has assured conducive environment for investors in Ebonyi as state government under leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has provided security for mining companies and other investors to operate.


Hon Nwakpu stated this at Ishielu Local Government when he led the committee members to Forever Chim Quarry Company, Woda Mountain and Top Trust Quarry Companies on Oversight function visist.

He said the visit was to strengthen collaboration and promote responsible mining practices, with emphasis on the payment of State Internally Generated Revenue and effective implementation of the Community Development Agreement (CDA) to ensure peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in host communities.

Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu further stated that the State Government is determined to prevent conflicts between miners and host communities, and that the State does not want situations where disagreements escalate into confrontations between operators and community members.


The Committee Chairman commended Forever Chim General Manager for keeping to their Community Development Agreement with their host community as attested by the Community Liason Officer Barr Emeka Onwe. .

Responding, the General Manager Forever Chim Company Chief James Aziugo said they have worked towards keeping to the mining laws and keep to the agreements with the hosting community.

At Woda Mountain and TopTrust Companies, the lawmaker maintained that understanding and respecting clearly defined roles and responsibilities will help create a more sustainable and productive mining sector in Ebonyi State.

Hon Nwakpu highlighted the importance of the Community Development Agreement saying that it is a key framework designed to ensure that mining activities benefit host communities.

EBHA COMMITTEE ON SOLID MINERALS LAUDS AND CHASTISE MINING COMPANIES IN IVO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA .

The Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Solid Mineral Development Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu has condemned illegal and unsafe mining activities by Greenfield Metals Company in Ihetutu Community in Ivo Local Government Area and ordered for the immediate closure of the company for embarking on illegal under grounds mining activities.

Hon Nwakpu who gave the order during oversight function visit to the company lamented that the activities of Greenfield Mining Company would lead to loss of lives and property of citizens of the state particularly in host community Ihetutu in Ivo Local Government Area.

He said the inability of the company to present all relevant documents guiding its activities including its Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental impact Audit reports, Community Development Agreement and IGR Payment receipts adding that the company has failed to comply with the provisions of Mining Act.

Contributing, Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West Constituency and Hon Stephen Orji Igwe expressed concern over the operations of the company saying the company will remain sealed until they comply with the mining laws.

At the Arab Contractors Company, the Committee Chairman Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu representing Ikwo North Constituency commended the company for keeping unto all the safety laws, presentation of relevant documents including regular payment of Its Internally Generated Revenue.

He urged the company to continue keeping to their responsibilities

Responding on behalf of the company, the Managing Director of Arab Contractors represented by the company Accountant Mr Kurotamuno Inioruton said that they have worked towards keeping to the mining laws and keep to the agreements with the hosting community.

First, weight gain is not evidence of looting. If that were the case, half of Nigeria’s political class; and a good number of private citizens would already be serving life sentences. Governance is measured by policies, legislative outputs, peace in the House, and service delivery, not by the size of a man’s waistline.

Second, accusing a Speaker of “looting” without a single verifiable fact, audit report, or court process is not bravery; it is reckless ignorance. In a constitutional democracy, allegations are proven with evidence, not with insults typed in anger.

Third, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly does not personally control the state treasury. If you understood even the basic separation of powers, you would know that lawmaking, not fund disbursement, is the core responsibility of the office you are casually maligning.

Lastly, reducing political discourse to personal abuse does not make you courageous or outspoken. It simply reveals a lack of understanding of governance and a poverty of argument. Criticize policies, challenge decisions, debate ideas; but when your best contribution is body shaming, you’ve already lost the argument.

- EBHA PASSES BILL TO DELIST AMASIRI DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN MOVE TO RESTORE PEACE AND PROTECT LIVES

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a Law to amend the Ebonyi State Local Government Councils and Development Centres (Amendment) Law No. 007 of 2007, providing for the delisting and disbandment of Amasiri Development Centre, and for other matters connected thereto.

The Bill was passed during Tuesday’s plenary session at the Legislative Complex, Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa.

While reading the letter from the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Speaker explained that the proposed legislation was aimed at halting further violence, safeguarding human lives, and restoring lasting peace in affected communities.

The Governor’s letter was admitted as a working document of the House following a motion moved by the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Nkemka Okoro Onuma, and seconded by the Member representing Izzi East State Constituency, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam.

Contributing to the debate, the Deputy Chief Whip and Member representing Ishielu South State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chukwu Arinze Lucas, condemned the killings in Edda and urged Members to support the Bill in the interest of peace and public safety. He stressed that no sacrifice is too great when the objective is the preservation of human life and societal harmony.

"There is no price too high to pay for peace when human lives are at stake.

“Every lawful step taken by the State Government to restore peace must receive the full support of this House." He stated.

Similarly, the Member representing Ezza North-West State Constituency, Hon. Chikaodiri Nomeh, commended Governor Nwifuru for his proactive and timely intervention to de-escalate the crisis between Amasiri and Osu-Edda communities. He described the killings in Okporojo, Osu-Edda, as brutal and extrajudicial, noting that the delisting of the Development Centre would serve as a strong deterrent against future acts of violence.

Also speaking, the Member representing Ezza South State Constituency, Hon. Friday Ogbuewu, praised the Governor for his ingenuity and peace-driven leadership. He observed that violent incidents linked to the area had affected not only Okporojo but also neighboring communities. He clarified that the Bill was corrective rather than punitive, emphasizing that the action was taken in the overriding interest of peace and the collective good of Ebonyi State.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, stated that the passage of the Bill demonstrates the premium placed on peace, security, and the sanctity of human life by the Government of Ebonyi State. He noted that the legislation would serve as a deterrent to any community or group inclined toward lawlessness, stressing that its objective is to forestall a breakdown of law and order across the State.

“This Bill demonstrates the priority the Government of Ebonyi State places on peace, security, and the sanctity of human life.

“No community or administrative structure can continue to exist where lawlessness and barbaric acts undermine public safety and order.

“The delisting of Amasiri Development Centre is a preventive and corrective measure aimed at forestalling further breakdown of law and order in Ebonyi State.” Speaker Odunwa stated.

The Speaker further observed that the persistence of violent acts within the jurisdiction of a Development Centre negates the very purpose for which such an administrative structure is created, thereby justifying its delisting.

"Where the purpose of a Development Centre is defeated by persistent violence, the State must act decisively in the interest of peace.”

Following legislative consideration by the Committee of the Whole, the House adopted the Bill and resolved that, pursuant to Law HAB No. 001 of 2026, the delisting of Amasiri Development Centre reduces the number of Development Centres in Afikpo Local Government Area from five (5) to four (4). Consequently, the total number of Development Centres in Ebonyi State now stands at sixty-three (63).

The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Edene Uche Blessing, to formally communicate the passage of the Bill to the Governor for assent.

In addition, the House adopted a report presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam, which made far-reaching recommendations aimed at strengthening local government administration. These include periodic capacity-building programmes for Council Chairmen on project management, financial accountability, and leadership; in-house training for local government staff to improve efficiency; inclusive financial decision-making processes; and payment of outstanding salaries, allowances, and entitlements owed to Vice Chairmen, Councillors, and other officials; among other recommendations.

The plenary was adjourned to the next legislative day through a motion that was moved by the Chief Whip of the House, Chief Nkemka Okoro Onuma, and seconded by the Member representing Ivo State Constituency, Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu.

The newly appointed secretary Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission Mr Ben Nwofoke has assumed office with a promise to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity without compromising the welfare of the workers.

Mr Nwofoke gave the assurance to the staff of the State House of Assembly at Assembly Complex while taken over from the immediate past Secretary of the Commission Dr Mrs MaryRose Chinwe Ezeagu.

The Clerk of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Mrs Blessing Uche Edene has paid glowing tribute to out going Secretary of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission Dr Mrs MaryRose Chinwe Ezaegu and other retired civil servants of the State House of Assembly for thier exemplary service and invaluable contributions to the state development.

Speaking to the retirees at the House of Assembly complex during a send_forth party organised in honour of retired civil servants of the Assembly who dedicated thier careers to civil service.

Mrs Uche Edene emphasized the commitment of out going Secretary of the House of Assembly Service Commission Dr MaryRose Ezeagu in Ebonyi in repositioning the commission adding that the Secretary has actually developed crop of excellent manpower resources.
