EBONYI ASSEMBLY RECEIVES BILL TO ESTABLISH AGRICULTURAL VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

A Bill for a Law to establish the Ebonyi State Agricultural Value Chain Development Agency (EBS-AVCDA) to sustain, expand and institutionalize the gains of the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) and for related matters, has been presented to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Value Chain Development Programme has been intervening in the agricultural sector in Ebonyi State since 2015. The programme is scheduled to wind down by June 2027 and will finally close in December 2027.

It is against this background that the National Programme Coordinator of the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme, Dr. Fatima Aliyu, was at the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to present a draft proposal for the transformation of VCDP into a government agency as part of efforts to sustain the gains of the programme.

The National Programme Coordinator, who was represented by the Knowledge Management Adviser, Mrs. Vera Onyeaka-Onyibo, highlighted the achievements and impact of the programme on participating rural farmers, especially in the areas of rural roads, rural water infrastructure, production, processing and marketing of rice and cassava, as well as capacity building of farmers and regular input distribution, among others.

She stressed the need to ensure that the achievements already recorded by the programme do not go into extinction, adding that the establishment of an agency would guarantee sustainability.

Also speaking, the State Programme Coordinator of the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme, Dr. Sunday Michael Ituma, said IFAD was keen on ensuring that a sustainability initiative was incorporated to preserve the programme's achievements through a sustainable mechanism.

Dr. Ituma said the team interfaced with the State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources to explore how the Value Chain Development Programme could be transformed into a legal instrument to continue to improve agricultural practices in the State.

Responding, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu, commended the agency for the draft bill aimed at domesticating the Value Chain Development Programme, which he noted has added immense value to the economic well-being and livelihood of benefiting farmers in the State.

The Committee Chairman maintained that Ebonyi farmers have benefited immensely from the IFAD intervention, which includes the construction of rural roads, market infrastructure, solar-powered boreholes, irrigation facilities, mini-bridges and culverts, among others.

In their separate contributions, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Stephen Orji Igwe, representing Edda East Constituency, the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Joseph Ununu, representing Abakaliki South, and the Deputy Whip, Hon. Lucas Arinze Chukwu, representing Ishielu South, assured the team of their preparedness to ensure the speedy passage of the Bill into law in the interest of Ebonyi farmers.

ODUNWA, SOUTH-EAST SPEAKERS AND THE QUEST FOR STRONGER LEGISLATIVE STANDARDS

The successful conclusion of the South-East Speakers’ Conference Zonal Meeting in Awka marks another important step towards strengthening legislative cooperation and institutional development across the region.

Held under the theme, “Legislative Review and Standardization of Legislative Procedures Across South-East States,” the conference provided a valuable platform for the five State Houses of Assembly to reflect on their legislative practices, exchange experiences and explore practical ways of improving the quality, efficiency and professionalism of legislative business.

At the centre of Ebonyi State’s participation was the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, whose contribution reinforced the importance of continuous legislative review and stronger institutional collaboration among the South-East legislatures.

Speaker Odunwa’s participation underscored a simple but important principle: effective legislation is not only about passing laws; it is also about continually examining how laws are made, how legislative institutions function and how democratic institutions can be strengthened to serve the people better.

The conference also provided an opportunity for the Speakers to appreciate that standardisation does not mean imposing identical procedures on the five Houses. Rather, it offers an avenue for developing common professional standards, sharing best practices and building stronger legislative institutions, while allowing each legislature to respond to its unique circumstances.

For Ebonyi, the participation of Speaker Odunwa represents an opportunity to bring home valuable experiences from other South-East legislatures and contribute Ebonyi’s own legislative perspectives to the regional conversation. Such engagements can strengthen legislative research, committee work, oversight, administrative procedures and the overall effectiveness of the State House of Assembly.

The emphasis on legislative review is particularly significant in a rapidly changing society. Laws and legislative procedures must remain responsive to emerging realities, while institutions must continually improve their capacity to deliver effective representation, oversight and lawmaking.

The conference’s deliberation on the roles and responsibilities of State legislatures in the development of new State Police Acts further demonstrated the practical importance of the discussions. It brought the conversation beyond theory to contemporary issues requiring thoughtful legislative attention, institutional coordination and sound legal frameworks.

As the conference concluded on Sunday, it left behind more than speeches and deliberations. It reinforced the need for the South-East legislatures to maintain regular institutional dialogue, learn from one another and pursue legislative practices that strengthen democracy and improve governance.

For Speaker Moses Ije Odunwa, the engagement in Awka was therefore not merely a participation in a regional gathering. It was an opportunity to contribute to a collective effort aimed at building stronger, more professional and more responsive legislative institutions across the South-East.

The successful conclusion of the conference has once again demonstrated that when legislatures come together to review their practices, share experiences and pursue common standards, the ultimate beneficiary is the people whom they represent.

EBONYI COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCES UBURU HITS NEW HEIGHTS UNDER GOVERNOR NWIFURU

The Provost of Ebonyi State College of Nursing Sciences, Uburu, Mrs. Patricia Nwankwagu, has declared that the institution has attained a new height under her administration with full accreditation and massive infrastructural expansion.

Mrs. Nwankwagu disclosed this in Abakaliki when the management of the College interfaced with the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education.

According to her, the College has secured full accreditation for ND and HND Nursing Programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and full accreditation for Nursing and Midwifery Programmes by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

She further disclosed that the College emerged best at the South East Nurses Olympiad Quiz Competition and second best at the National level in 2025.

The Provost attributed the transformation of the College to the massive support of the State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in the areas of infrastructural rebirth and provision of modern health equipment.

Mrs PatriciaNwankwagu highlighted recent milestones of her administration to include Construction of a storey building Arts Classroom Block with 400-capacity FON Hall, sinking of a motorized borehole for Staff Lodge, ongoing construction of 800-capacity students hostel,-fully functional mini ICT Hall, expansion of sports facilities, construction of 20,000 litres overhead tanks for hostels, second best position at 2026 South East debate competition, organization of matriculation ceremonies and award of certificates to graduating students.

The Provost said Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is a rare gem that comes once in a generation as he has demonstrated uncommon political will to transform society, which he has practicalized in Ebonyi within just three years in office.

She noted that her administration deliberately repositioned the College to produce highly competent and quality nurses and midwives for the State and the nation, and appealed to the Committee to consider an amendment of the law establishing the institution to meet current realities.

Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Barr. Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, said the interface was aimed at assessing the operational level of the College, including its progress and challenges.

Hon. Nwodo commended the Provost for her administrative ingenuity which has brought visible development to the College, particularly the exceptional environmental cleanliness and academic discipline.

He said in consideration of the central role of good health in engendering development, the present administration under Governor Nwifuru did not rest on its oars until the health sector was reformed to optimum capacity, hence the recruitment of health personnel and massive infrastructural development in health institutions across the state.

Contributing, members of the Committee Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West, Hon. Victor Nwoke representing Abakaliki North, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam representing Izzi East and Hon. SOUTH-EAST SPEAKERS’ CONFERENCE: ODUNWA CHAMPIONS STRONGER LEGISLATIVE COOPERATION, COMMON STANDARDS

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, on Saturday participated in the South-East Speakers’ Conference Zonal Meeting held in Awka, Anambra State, with the theme: “Legislative Review and Standardization of Legislative Procedures Across South-East States.”

The meeting brought together the Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly in the South-East, alongside other legislative stakeholders, to deliberate on strengthening legislative institutions and promoting greater cooperation among the region’s legislatures.

On his opening remarks, the host Speaker and Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, said the quality of legislation has a direct bearing on the quality of governance, stressing the need for the five Houses to continually review their laws and legislative procedures.

He noted that standardisation should not imply uniformity, but rather the establishment of common professional standards that would promote effective lawmaking, oversight and legislative administration.

Udeze called for greater cooperation among the five Houses, including the comparative review of laws, exchange of legislative research and development of model legislation in areas of shared regional interest.

He also emphasised the importance of post-enactment review, stronger committee systems, legislative research and professional development of legislative staff, noting that the objective should be to build a common legislative culture capable of producing laws that respond effectively to the needs of the people.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, described the conference as timely and significant, noting that the responsibility of State Houses of Assembly extends beyond the passage of laws to the continuous review of legislative procedures and the strengthening of democratic institutions.

Speaker Odunwa noted that standardising legislative procedures across the South-East should be viewed as an opportunity for the five Houses to identify best practices, share experiences and develop common standards that would improve the efficiency, transparency and professionalism of legislative business. Expressing that stronger institutional cooperation among the South-East legislatures would enhance oversight, legislative administration and the development of laws that are responsive to the aspirations of the people.

He commended the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, South-East Zone, for providing a platform for experience-sharing and institutional strengthening, expressing confidence that the deliberations would produce practical recommendations for improving legislative effectiveness across the region. He also appreciated the Anambra State House of Assembly for its warm reception and hospitality.

Highlight of the conference was a legislative lecture delivered by a resource person on Legislative Review and Standardization of Legislative Procedures Across South-East States, with particular emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of State legislatures in the development of the new State Police Acts.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON YOUTH AND SPORTS HAILS GOV NWIFURU FOR REVIVING SPORTS MINISTRY AFTER 17 YEARS OF MORIBUND.

The Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports Hon Victor Chidi Nwoke has commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his bold determination to revive sporting and youth development activities in the State after 17 years of moribund.

Hon. Nwoke gave the commendation when he led members of the Committee on a familiarization visit to the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Chidi Onyia, in Abakaliki.

The CommitteeChairman who represents Abakaliki North State Constituency, said Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to sports development has led to the complete revitalization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which was dormant for 17 years, and the establishment of Abakaliki Football Club as a platform for youth engagement and talent discovery.

He further stated that Governor Nwifuru has demonstrated uncommon passion for youth and sports by reviving the Sports Ministry after 17 years adding that establishing Abakaliki FC is a clear proof that his People’s Charter of Needs is youth-inclusive.

Hon Nwoke lauded the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Chidi Onyia, for bringing innovation, experience and fresh ideas to the Ministry.

He stressed that sports remains a vital tool for promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and a viable source of professional and gainful employment for Ebonyi youths.

The Committee Chairman disclosed that the essence of the visit was to have firsthand knowledge of the activities of the Ministry as part of the Committee’s oversight functions, and assured of the Committee’s full support. He revealed that he has sponsored a Bill for the establishment of an Annual Sports Festival in Ebonyi State.

Responding, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Chidi Onyia, outlined the achievements of the Ministry under Governor Nwifuru to include Prompt payment of monthly allowances to National Youth Service Corps members, Payment of monthly subvention to the National Youth Service Corp office ( NYSC) ,Proposed Annual School Sports Festival, conclusion of plans to establish the Ebonyi Youth Volunteers Force for drug abuse control and attitudinal change.

Hon. Onyia thanked the Committee for its concern and commitment to the progress of the Ministry, assuring of greater dedication to youth development and appealed to the Committee to assist the Ministry in revitalizing the Ebonyi State Sports Council.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a book titled "Enhancing Youth Development and Participation in the Context of Sustainable Development: A Blueprint of the Ministry’s Activities by the Commissioner to the Committee.

EBHA COMMITTEE ON PROJECT MONITORING SCORES GOV NWIFURU HIGH ON PROJECT EXECUTION.

The Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Project Monitoring and Evaluation Hon Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali has declared Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as the most project-driven leader in the history of the State, expressing satisfaction over the quality, quantity and spread of projects executed by his administration.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali who represents Afikpo North-East State Constituency, made the declaration in Abakaliki when he led members of the Committee on a familiarization visit to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

The lawmaker stated that the visit was part of the Committee’s oversight mandate to assess project implementation and identify areas where the legislature can provide support to the executive arm.

According to him, the Committee is impressed that every kobo appropriated for projects by Governor Nwifuru has been judiciously utilized, with projects executed to standard and evenly distributed across the three senatorial zones of the State.

and briefed on confirms that Governor Nwifuru is a leader who matches words with action adding that his projects are not only numerous but of high quality and spread across all parts of Ebonyi.

The Committee Chairman also commended the Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima describing him as a competent and seasoned administrator whose wealth of experience is already repositioning the Ministry.

Hon. Inyima noted that a strategic framework for effective project monitoring has been established, stressing that the era of abandoned projects in Ebonyi is gone.

He further revealed that plans have been concluded for the introduction of digital project monitoring for real-time tracking of all government projects across the State.

The Commissioner assured the Committee of robust collaboration and thanked them for their aggressive pursuit of the realization of Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs through quality legislation and comprehensive oversight.

In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry expressed appreciation for the timely visit of the Committee, describing it as a morale booster for the Ministry.

EBHA COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION COMMENDS COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE NGBO OVER REMARKABLE REFORMS.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo has commended an aggressive transformation at the Ebonyi State College of Health Science, Ngbo, under the leadership of the new Provost, Mrs.Chibueze Chetachi .

Hon. Barr. Nwodo gave the commendation during a familiarization visit to the institution .

The Committee Chairman who represents Ebonyi North West Constituency, said the rapid developments at the college reflect Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s unwavering commitment to raising educational and health standards in the state.

He said an aggressive academic activities ongoing in the Institution guarantee a steady supply of professional health workers for Ebonyi State and equally hailed the environmental cleanliness and infrastructural upgrades in the college.

Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo emphasized that the visit was aimed at strengthening standards not to witch-hunt anyone promising legislative support for college's growth as health is wealth.

In her response, the Provost of College of Health Science and Technology Ngbo , Mrs.Chibueze Chetachi highlighted the achievement of the college under her administration within few months in office to include building of ultra-modern ICT Center, registration for NBTE accreditationfor five departments, facilitated amendment of college law, construction of college gate with security building andperimeterfencing, renovation of library block, renovation of college canteen and clinic, renovation of female hostel improvement in enrollment and establishment of college entrepeurship Centre.

She thanked the State Governor for her appointment and the State House of Assembly for passage of law establishing the college adding that the college had expanded programmes in Environmental Health, Community Health, and Health Information Management to drive robust healthcare delivery.

Mrs Chibueze Chetachi however maintained that it was not all through rossy as some challenges are still facing the college and appealed for government intervention in areas of critical need, citing lack of a college coaster bus, mobility for principal officers, male hostels, and the need for more staff recruitment.

The Provost told the Committee that the Governor had done alot for the upliftment of the Institution and promised to continue in the way she was met but solicited for more supports.

Also speaking, the Deputy Leader of the House and Committee Member, Hon. Joseph Ununu, praised the Provost for the visible programmes that have repositioned the institution for success.

The Committee pledged to synergize with the college management to ensure sustained growth of the institution.

- GOVERNOR NWIFURU REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO BETTER HEALTHCARE, CALLS FOR STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH MDCAN

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build a healthcare system where quality medical care is accessible to the people and medical professionals are given the support they need to serve effectively.

He said this on Friday during a Gala Night organised in honour of the Chairman and members of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), which took place at the Banquet Hall, Old Government House, Abakaliki.

Governor Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, said the State Government deeply appreciates the sacrifices, expertise and commitment of medical consultants who continue to devote their lives to saving lives and advancing medical knowledge.

Governor Nwifuru noted that the gathering was not just about dining and celebration, but an opportunity to recognise people whose years of training, research, teaching and patient care have made a profound difference in the lives of Nigerians.

He described medical consultants as the teachers of doctors, the backbone of tertiary healthcare institutions and, in many critical situations, the last line of defence for patients seeking specialised medical attention.

According to him, “no State can develop without a strong and functional health system, and no health system can stand without the consultants.”

Governor Nwifuru said his administration had made healthcare one of its major priorities under the People’s Charter of Needs, stressing that the government was deliberately investing in the sector because the health of the people remains fundamental to the development of the State.

He explained that the administration had upgraded and equipped tertiary healthcare institutions as part of its efforts to reduce the need for Ebonyi residents to travel outside the State in search of specialised medical services.

The Governor also highlighted the employment of more healthcare workers, ongoing recruitment to meet emerging needs, improved welfare packages for health personnel and increased attention to primary healthcare, particularly to ensure that quality medical services reach people at the grassroots.

He also called for a stronger and more meaningful partnership between the State Government and MDCAN, particularly in the areas of professional expertise, research, mentorship, policy formulation and knowledge-sharing.

The Governor also encouraged the consultants to see Ebonyi not merely as a place to visit, but as a State with opportunities for meaningful professional collaboration.

He said the State was steadily building a healthcare ecosystem that could become a model for the South-East and urged the medical community to be part of that journey.

“Come, invest your knowledge. Come, mentor our young doctors. Come, let us build together,” he appealed.

Governor Nwifuru congratulated the Chairman and members of MDCAN and expressed the hope that the meeting would further strengthen the relationship between the Association and the Ebonyi State Government, while the decisions and resolutions reached would ultimately contribute to better healthcare outcomes for the people.

Earlier, the Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, Prof. Grace Umezuruike, commended the Medical and Dental Consultants for the sacrifices they make every day in the service of humanity.

She described medical practitioners as men and women of a noble profession who have distinguished themselves through dedication, knowledge and selfless service to the people.

Prof. Umezuruike acknowledged the important role they play in the health sector and prayed God to continually protect them from the risks and hazards associated with their profession.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of MDCAN, Prof. Appolos Chidi Ndukuba, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Nwifuru and the Ebonyi State Government for the warm hospitality extended to the Association.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY HAILS IFAD-VCDP IMPACT ON RURAL FARMERS, SEEKS LEGISLATION TO SUSTAIN PROGRAMME POST CLOSURE.

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources has lauded the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Value Chain Development Programme, IFAD-VCDP, for significantly improving the productivity and livelihoods of rural farmers.

The commendation was made by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Chief Onyebuchi Ogbadu during an oversight visit to the IFAD-VCDP State Office in Abakaliki.

The Chairman noted that the long term commitment of State programme Cordinator of IFAD Dr Sunday Michael Ituma has strengthened agricultural value chains in Ebonyi and benefited farmers in his constituency and across the State, as well as opened access to global markets.

He said the purpose of the oversight was to review the performance of IFAD-VCDP in the past one year and to identify achievements and challenges.

Hon Onyebuchi Ogbadu reaffirmed affirmed the House of Assembly's Commitment to support policies and legislation that will consolidate agricultural growth and rural development in Ebonyi State.

Presenting the progress report, the State Programme Coordinator, Dr. Sunday Michael Ituma said the development objective of the programme is to enhance sustainable incomes and food security for poor rural households engaged in the production, processing and marketing of rice and cassava in Ebonyi State.

Dr. Ituma disclosed that the programme is being implemented in 8 Local Government Areas across the 3 Senatorial Zones of the State with profiled farmers of 23,163 in which 18,083 beneficaries have been supported as at 3ist December 2025.

According to him, all components in the programme manual and budget have been delivered in Ebonyi. These include construction of market infrastructure with mini-bridges, culverts and rural roads,Solar-powered boreholes, irrigation facilities and sanitary facilities , establishment of processing centers and a seed laboratory, Farmers’ Field and Business Schools, land development and clearing, Provision of farm inputs such as fertilizers, agrochemicals and improved seedlings

Dr. Ituma appealed to the State House of Assembly to pass a law to transit IFAD-VCDP into a State Government agency to sustain the achievements of the programme after its closure.

Contributing, members of the Committee including Hon. Abiri Godwin Abiri, Hon. Steve Orji Igwe, Hon. Chinyere Nwogbaga, Hon. Victor Nwoke, and Hon. Arinze Lucas Chukwu commended IFAD for its intervention which has ensured food soverveignty and transformation of agricultural sector in the state .


They urged the Programme Coordinator to expand coverage to the remaining Local Government Areas to ensure more farmers benefit from the initiative.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY DIRECTS CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL MOTOR PARKS TO BOOST IGR, RESTORE CAPITAL CITY BEAUTY

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has directed the Ministry of Transport to intensify enforcement and put an immediate stop to the activities of transport operators at illegal motor parks across the State Capital.

The directive was issued during an oversight visit to the Ministry of Transport by members of the Committee led by the Chairman, Hon. Deacon Joseph Ununu who also represents Abakaliki South Constituency and doubles as Deputy Leader of the House.

Hon. Ununu observed that the proliferation of illegal parks negates the ongoing beautification drive of Abakaliki and significantly reduces the State’s Internally Generated Revenue.

He further urged commercial car and bus operators to desist from "pick and drop" operations and return to the government-approved motor parks provided by the Ebonyi State Government.

The Committee Chairman commended the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Emeka Igboke for initiatives that have drastically reduced road accidents in the State and urged him to sustain the momentum.

Contributing, the Vice Chairman of the CommitteeHon. Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali Afikpo North East, alongside Hon. Aloysius Nwodo Ebonyi North West, Hon. Victor Nwoke Abakaliki North, and Hon. Obinna Mbam - Izzi East, stated that the oversight was to assess the Ministry’s activities.

They urged the Ministry to ensure proper supervision of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, to align their operations with their statutory mandate.

Responding, the Commissioner for Transport Hon. Emeka Igboke disclosed that the State has four government-approved parks which include Akanu Ibiam Park Spera N' Deo ,Ezeogo Igboke Ewa Central Park,
EBOTRANS Park Nwokpo Junction, and Ishieke Park.

He informed the Committee that the State Inter-Ministerial Committee has commenced steps to close all illegal motor parks within Abakaliki metropolis.

Hon. Igboke further stated that the Ministry has introduced an identification system for genuine traffic control personnel to curb abuse and extortion. He added that areas requiring traffic light installations have been identified for action.

The Commissioner appreciated the Committee for the visit and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to delivering quality and orderly transport services to Ebonyi people.

HON NWODO APPLAUDS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS IN EBONYI STATE

The member representing Ebonyi North West Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for its commitment to infrastructural development across the country.

Hon. Nwodo made the commendation while speaking with journalists on the proposed flyover to be constructed at Ukwuachi Junction, Ishieke, in Ebonyi Local Government Area. The proposed flyover is part of the ambitious 118-kilometre Trans-Saharan Highway, a strategic Federal road corridor stretching from Ndibe Bridge in Afikpo through Abaomege (Onicha LGA), Onueke, Ezza South, Ukwuachi, Ezza North, Ishieke, and Mbeke (Ebonyi LGA) before terminating in Gboko, Benue State.

The lawmaker attributed the attraction of the landmark project to the cordial relationship between the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, GGCEHF, and the Federal Government.

He also commended the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency Senator Engr. David Umahi, for his relentless efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of President Tinubu's infrastructural vision.

Hon. Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo further appreciated the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, for his legislative support and commitment towards ensuring that the project received the necessary backing in the Senate.

He assured the Federal Government and the contractors handling the project of the full cooperation and support of the people of Ebonyi North West Constituency to ensure the successful execution of both the flyover and the section of the highway passing through the constituency.

EBHA AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE HAILS NWIFURU’S FOOD SECURITY DRIVE, TOURS STATE FERTILIZER COMPANY

The Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources Hon Chief Onyebuchi Ogbadu has commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for transforming Ebonyi into an agrarian hub with high agro yields and food sufficiency across the state.

Hon. Ogbadu gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the Ebonyi State Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited in Abakaliki.

The Committee Chairman who represent Ivo State Constituency described the Governor’s investment in agriculture as strategic, noting that the Fertilizer Company has become a major driver of productivity, revenue generation, and food security not only for Ebonyi but for the entire nation.

He said the commitment of the leadership of the company has increased the productivity and Internally Generated Revenue of the state adding that Ebonyi Fertilizer Company is now known for hybrid properties and excellent composition that boost food production.

The Committee Chairman also emphasized on the importance of thier safety, and internal control measures to prevent leakages and diversion of products.

He further lauded the Director General of the Company, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, for maintaining high standards of environmental cleanliness and for the dedication of the workforce.

Other lawmakers on the visit including Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, member representing Izzi West; the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Joseph Ununu; and Hon. Kelvin Kenechukwu Okeh of Ezza North East Constituency, said the oversight was to assess the company’s programmes for the current farming season.

The lawmakers who described the Fertilizer Company as the bedrock of the revenue of the state pledged legislative support to ensure the company continue to meets the fertilizer demands of farmers across Ebonyi and beyond.

Responding, the Director General, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, said his administration has put robust measures in place to ensure maximum productivity and disclosed that the company’s machines produce 800 bags of fertilizer per hour.

Dr. Nwangele added that the company prioritizes worker safety by providing Personal Protective Equipment, and remains committed to blending quality fertilizer that is farmer-friendly.

He listed the four major brands produced by the company as NPK 15-15-15, NPK 12-12-12, NPK 20-10-10, and NPK 27-13-13, noting that the company enjoys strong patronage from agro marketers across neighbouring states.

The visit underscores the 7th Assembly’s commitment under Governor Nwifuru to strengthen agriculture as a pillar for food security and economic growth in Ebonyi State.

HON CHINYERE NWOGBAGA DISBURSES SCHOLARSHIP TO INDIGENT STUDENTS STUDENTS, HAILS GOVERNOR NWIFURU'S DEVELOPMENTAL STRIDES.

The Member representing Ebonyi North East Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon Mrs Chinyere Juliet Nwogbaga has continued the disbursement of scholarship awards to brilliant Indigent students across seven wards of her Constituency.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon Mrs Nwogbaga said the scholarship programme is one of the flagship initiatives of her Adaeji Eje Mba Charity Foundation aimed at complementing the educational programmes
of the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and more importantly to meet up with her personal desire to improve the living standard of the people of Ebonyi North East.

She said that investments in the education sector outlives a generation adding that she has decided to continue with the programme as long as possible but however cautioned the beneficiaries against slack in educational pursuits as this may lead to their disqualification and withdrawal

Hon Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga thanked the State Governor for providing her opportunity to effect changes in human lives adding that as a determined person, she knows how expensive education is and how devastating ignoring attainment of it are due to poverty and futher urged the students to combine skill acquisition with their studies instead of been ideal.

EBHA COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION COMMENDS GOVERNOR NWIFURU ON UNIVERSITY OF AERONAUTICS AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING EZZA.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo has commended the State Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for the establishment and proper funding of the Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering Ezza, describing it as a landmark project for the State.

This was made known during a familiarisation visit of the committee to the University.

Speaking during the visit , the Committee Chairman, Hon. Barr. Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, said the establishment of the Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering University is timely and strategic, especially with the presence of a functional Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo International Airport Onueke.

He noted that the institution will provide direct manpower and opportunities for Ebonyi people and the world in aviation, engineering and technology sectors.

Hon. Nwodo further extolled the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Patrick Akata Nwofe for rolling out a blueprint that ensured the accreditation of 25 Undergraduate programmes, of which admissions is already ongoing for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The Committee Chairman said the committee was in the institution to assess its activities and to be furnished with details of contractors handling the University projects, in line with its oversight function.

Hon Nwodo assured the continued support of the Committee to ensure they deliver on thier mandates.


Contributing, the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Joseph Ununu, and the member representing Izzi East Constituency, Hon. Obinna Mbam said the visit was aimed at ensuring the upward development of the institution and to identify areas where legislative assistance is needed.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, Prof. Patrick Akata Nwofe, said the University was made manifest on August 19th, 2024 under Governor Francis Nwifuru with the pronouncement of principal officers of the institution.

He added that the State Governor has remained supportive to the institution through the provision of operational vehicles and other needed logistics.

Prof. Akata highlighted key achievements to include: NUC approval of 25 departments for the 2026/2027 academic year, placement of the University as the 69th State University in Nigeria and 300th University in the Nigerian University system, issuance of operational licence by NUC in 2025, international cooperation with Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Dubna in Russia, Industrial collaboration, institutional collaboration, and the ongoing construction of 14 numbers of 3-storey buildings for faculty, hostels and staff quarters.

The Vice Chancellor identified the major challenge of the University as the slow pace of work by contractors handling the University projects, despite huge amounts already released by the State Government.

In a vote of thanks, the University Librarian, Mr. Igwe Victor, thanked the committee for the visit and assured that it would ginger the management to perform more in their duties.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport Hon. Deacon Joseph Ununu has commended the General Manager of Ebonyi State Transport Corporation, Mrs Jennifer Nnenna Igwe, for driving reforms which brought tangible relief to commuters across the state.

Hon. Ununu who gave the commendation during an oversight visit of the Committee to EBOTRANS headquarters, noted that effective leadership should be judged by impact, not promises.

According to Hon Ununu “The strategy introduced by the General Manager has enhanced daily living and stimulated economic growth. EBOTRANS has witnessed remarkable transformation under Mrs. Igwe’s leadership.

He highlighted the procurement of brand new Sienna vehicles, rehabilitation of grounded buses, and expansion of routes to key destinations within and outside Ebonyi as landmark achievements in the history of the corporation.

Hon. Ununu also applauded the Governor of Ebonyi State His Excellency Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for prioritizing transportation under the “People’s Charter of Needs,” stressing that the administration’s commitment is evident in projects citizens can see and benefit from.

The Committee Chairman called for stronger collaboration between the House Committee on Transport and EBOTRANS to create a seamless pathway for further growth in the state’s transport sector.

EBHA EDUCATION COMMITTEE LAUDS TRANSFORMATION AT EBONYI STATE EXAMINATION DEVELOPMENT CENTER.

The Registrar of Ebonyi State Development Center , Dr. Lawrence Otusinkama, said the Examination Development Centre has attained new milestones under his leadership and under the present administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

He made this known while receiving the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education led by Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo who paid him an oversight function visit to the Centre.

Dr. Otusinkama disclosed that the Centre has cleared the backlog of First School Leaving Certificates, now releases results and certificates within 30 days of examinations, and has fully digitalised its operations.

According to the Registrar. "These reforms have enabled candidates to proceed to the next stage of their academic journey without unnecessary delays, “Under Governor Nwifuru, the Centre has witnessed a remarkable turnaround that has restored public trust in Ebonyi State’s examination system.”

He noted that in the past, there was widespread skepticism about state-conducted examinations. But with the current administration’s focus on transparency, standardisation, and credibility, parents, schools, and candidates now regard the state examinations as credible alternatives with real academic and career value.

Dr. Otusinkama further revealed that the Centre has maintained affordable examination fees and strictly adheres to its approved programme of activities in the conduct of all state examinations adding that the Centre was provided with a Senna bus by the State Government and continues to receive adequate attention and support.

The Registrar assured the good people of Ebonyi State that the Centre will continue to live up to expectations and sustain the tempo of service delivery.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Barr. Aloysius Nwodo said the oversight visit was aimed at assessing the operational level of the Centre, including progress made and existing challenges.

He assured the Registrar and staff that the Committee’s engagement was not to witch-hunt but to facilitate positive outcomes in line with the Governor’s _People’s Charter of Needs_ agenda for education.

The Committee Chairman applauded Dr. Otusinkama for his administrative ingenuity, which he said has brought visible development to the Centre. He also lauded Governor Nwifuru for his demonstrated passion for education, noting that the revitalisation of the Examination Development Centre is a clear testament to that commitment.

DIGITAL REVOLUTION : EBONYI EXAM CENTER ENDS YEARS OF CERTIFICATE BACKLOG.

The Registrar of Ebonyi State Development Center , Dr. Lawrence Otusinkama, said the Examination Development Centre has attained new milestones under his leadership and under the present administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

He made this known while receiving the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education led by Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo who paid him an oversight function visit to the Centre.

Dr. Otusinkama disclosed that the Centre has cleared the backlog of First School Leaving Certificates, now releases results and certificates within 30 days of examinations, and has fully digitalised its operations.

According to the Registrar. "These reforms have enabled candidates to proceed to the next stage of their academic journey without unnecessary delays, “Under Governor Nwifuru, the Centre has witnessed a remarkable turnaround that has restored public trust in Ebonyi State’s examination system.”

He noted that in the past, there was widespread skepticism about state-conducted examinations. But with the current administration’s focus on transparency, standardisation, and credibility, parents, schools, and candidates now regard the state examinations as credible alternatives with real academic and career value.

Dr. Otusinkama further revealed that the Centre has maintained affordable examination fees and strictly adheres to its approved programme of activities in the conduct of all state examinations adding that the Centre was provided with a Senna bus by the State Government and continues to receive adequate attention and support.

The Registrar assured the good people of Ebonyi State that the Centre will continue to live up to expectations and sustain the tempo of service delivery.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Barr. Aloysius Nwodo said the oversight visit was aimed at assessing the operational level of the Centre, including progress made and existing challenges.

He assured the Registrar and staff that the Committee’s engagement was not to witch-hunt but to facilitate positive outcomes in line with the Governor’s _People’s Charter of Needs_ agenda for education.

The Committee Chairman applauded Dr. Otusinkama for his administrative ingenuity, which he said has brought visible development to the Centre. He also lauded Governor Nwifuru for his demonstrated passion for education, noting that the revitalisation of the Examination Development Centre is a clear testament to that commitment.

In their separate contributions, the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Joseph Ununu and the member representing Edda East Constituency, Hon. Stephen Orji Igwe, also commended the Registrar for his pragmatic approach to enhancing examination development in the state.

Responding the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Prof. Michael Awoke said that his administration’s focus on Sensitisation, Sanitation, and Consolidation has positioned the institution for optimum performance and sustainable growth.

The Vice Chancellor informed the Committee that significant progress has been recorded under his leadership, with 13 additional academic programmes granted full accreditation, including the established Faculty of Engineering.

He added that the University has also witnessed massive infrastructural development and recorded a student enrolment of 11,500 in the last academic session and over fifteen thousand students has applied for admission into this years academicsession.

Prof. Awoke expressed appreciation to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his unwavering support and commitment to the growth of the institution, noting that the Governor has consistently demonstrated a listening ear and genuine love for the University.

The Vice Chancellor identified shortage of academic and non-academic staff and the absence of a State Teaching Hospital as the major challenges confronting the University at present.

He appealed to the State Government and the House Committee to assist in addressing the challenges in order to further enhance the University’s capacity to deliver quality teaching, research, and healthcare services

EBHA EDUCATION COMMITTEE COMMENDS GOV. NWIFURU OVER INVESTMENTS IN EDUCATION SECTOR.

The chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo has commended the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his commitment to transforming the education sector in the state.

Hon.Barr Nwodo, gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo.

The Committee Chairman who represents Ebonyi North West Constituency, described the Governor’s policies on educational infrastructure, payment of subvention, and award of scholarships to 500 students for a 5-year degree programme at the College as “transformative and visionary.”

According to Hon Nwodo AloysiusNwodo, the initiatives are laying the foundation for a more educated and empowered generation in Ebonyi State and will make the state’s education system the envy of other states.

He also lauded the Provost of the College, Prof. Benedict Mbam, for his administrative ingenuity, which has led to the introduction of 36 academic programmes and significant infrastructural development in the Institution.

In their remarks, the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Joseph Ununu, Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu of Ikwo North, and Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam of Izzi East, urged the College management to sustain the tempo and called on the Governor to do more for the institution.

Responding, Prof. Mbam said the College had recorded remarkable progress under his leadership, with 36 programmes and 597 students currently enrolled. He listed key projects to include construction of modern story building hostels for 300 female and 350 male students, a storey-building ICT Centre, perimeter fencing, and full electrification of the campus.

Prof Mbam highlighted some challenges facing the institution to include lack of official vehicles for principal officers, low student enrolment, and poor Internally Generated Revenue.

The Dean, Faculty of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Uduma, who spoke on behalf of staff, appealed to the state government to gazette College staff for pension and gratuity benefits so that retired staff can have something to fall back on and also informed the House Committee that the staff has cordial relationship with the Provost.
In a vote of thanks the Registrar of the college Mr Emmanuel Akpukwa appreciated the visit of the Committee which he said was timely.

The Committee also paid a familiarization visit to Blessed Martins University, Amagu Ikwo where the Committee Chairman Hon.Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo commended the proprietor, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogah, for investing in private education and creating jobs in the state.

He expressed satisfaction with the facilities in the University and employment of qualified staff and urged the students to make good use of them.

The Committee Chairman maintained that the establishment of Blessed Martins University by the Federal lawmaker Rt Hon Chinedu Ogah was a demonstration of patriotism, philanthropy and a sincere commitment to complementing government efforts in expanding acess to quality tertiary education in the state.

Hon Nwodo commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for fostering a climate of peace and stability in Ebonyi State, noting that the prevailing security and harmony have created a conducive environment for both the public and private sector to flourish.

Leading the Committee round the facilities of the Institution, he Deputy Rector, Rev. Sr. Judith Ojukwu, said the University, which comprises the Institute of Science and Technology and the College of Nursing Sciences, has 12 accredited programmes, over 100 staff, an ICT Centre, a clinic, a library complex, and modern hostels and organised prompt graduation ceremonies .

In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Provost of the Institution Mrs Onele Juliana Ezinwanyi thanked the committee for the visit which she said will ginger them to be more productive.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD PRODUCTION COMMENDS PROGRESS OF WORK AT FEEDMILL FACTORY, SAYS PROJECT WILL BOOST FOOD SECURITY AND YOUTH .

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Food Production Hon Onyebuchi Ogbadu has lauded the quality of work at the ongoing Ebonyi State Feedmill Factory, describing it as a bold step by the Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru administration to reposition the state’s agricultural sector.

He made this commendation during an unscheduled oversight visit to the project site by the Committee.

Speaking after inspecting key components of the facility, Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu representing Ivo State Constituency expressed satisfaction with the standard of work being executed by Anglozortic Nigeria Limited, the construction firm handling the project.

He noted visible progress at the staff quarters, administrative block, and the completed basement of the factory structure, stating that the development reflects the commitment of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to improve the welfare and economic base of Ebonyi people.

The Committee Chairman futher stated that the establishment of the Feedmill Factory is an economic-based policy of the present administration. When completed, will not only ensure mass food production but also create direct and indirect job opportunities for our teeming youths across the state.

Hon Ogbadu urged the contractor to maintain the current tempo and deliver the project within the approved timeline without compromising on quality.

Responding, the Director of Anglozortic Nigeria Limited, Prof. Richard Eze conducted the Committee round the site and gave updates on the project’s progress.

Prof. Eze said the company has completed the underground basement of the factory, completed slabbing of the warehouse ,while the storey staff quarters has reached roofing stage and the administrative block is at decking stage.

He assured the Committee that Anglozortic Limited remains committed to delivering a world-class facility in line with specifications.

Prof Eze appreciated the Committee for this visit and assured that the observations and recommendations made will be implemented.

The Feedmill Factory is expected to enhance poultry and livestock feed production in the state, reduce dependence on imported feed, and lower the cost of food for Ebonyi families when operational.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo has commended the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his commitment in advancement of educational standard in the state especially the construction of senior staff quarters and procurement of equipment for technical students at ICT University Oferekpe.

Hon Nwodo made the commendation when the House Committee on Education paid an oversight function visit to Ebonyi State University of ICT Oferekpe Agbaja Izzi .

The Committee Chairman futher stated that Governor Nwifuru has shown unwavering dedication in improving educational infrastructure by constructing two universities ICT and Aeronautics Universities to ensure massive enrollment of Ebonyi Citizens into tertiary Institutions.

Hon Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo asked the Vice Chancellor to provide the committee with stàff strength and students enrollments saying the committee is interested in seeing proper administration of the Institution.

He lauded the vice Chancellor Prof Enerst Egba for getting accreditation of twenty programmes which he said will promote digital literacy.

Contributing the member representing Izzi West Constituency Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri urged the Vice Chancellor to ensure adequate publicity of the University programmes while the Deputy Leader of the House Hon Joseph Ununu commended the Vice Chancellor for his administrative ingenuity which has brought progress in the area.

Also Hon Henry Sunday Eze representing Ishielu North and Hon Onu Ukpai representing Ohaozara West Constituency said the visit was aimed at achieving the best and reminded the University Management the paramount importance the state government placed on education to the people.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University ICT Oferekpe Prof Enerst Egba informed the committee that the university has gotten approval for 19 programmes in 2026/2027 academic session with target of 1500 students and that thier cut off mark is one hundred and fifty for all courses.

Prof Egba equally told the committee that the State Governor has provided buses for both students and staff and that 183 students benefited from Nelfunds of Federal Government.

He appreciated the House Committee on Education for the visit and appealed for more support.

How do we measure the performance of a lawmaker?

Is it by the number of speeches he delivers? Is it by political noise on social media? Is it by media appearances and endless publicity? Or is it by the tangible impact of his representation on the lives of the people?

A lawmaker's performance is measured by the quality of laws he helps to make, the motions and resolutions he champions, the development he attracts to his constituency, the opportunities he creates for the people, and the positive transformation his leadership brings to society.

By these standards, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Member representing Ikwo South State Constituency, has undoubtedly distinguished himself as one of the most impactful lawmakers of his generation.

EBONYI ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON POWER AND ENERGY EULOGISED RURAL ELECTRIFICATION BOARD FOR GOOD JOBS.

The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Energy Hon Igu Chikezie Nwankwo has expressed satisfaction over the quality of work done by the Haptrick Ventures handling electrification of Seventeen villages of Oferekpe Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He made this commendation when the Committee visited ten sub stations of the projects site to inspect the progress of work.

Hon Igu Chikezie Nwankwo representing Ohaozara East State Constituency lauded the contractor for ensuring that the work is in line with the contract agreement and urge him to keep the pace and complete the project within the scheduled time.

The Committee Chairman commended the State Governor His Excllency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for his commitment to have a robust development of all parts of the state stating that rural electrification project is one of the legacy projects of the Governor and urged people of the State to continue to appreciate the developmental strides of the Governor Francis Nwifuru who is keeping up with his promises.

The lawmaker extolled the activities of the chairman of Ebonyi State Rural Electrification Board especially the proper supervion of the electrification projects which ensured tangible work witnessed by the Committee .

They thanked the State Governor for embarking on electrification of I CT University Oferekpe and its neighbouring villages which they said will reduce rural urban migration.

The Chairman Ebonyi State Rural Electrification Board Engr Godwin Nwankwo who conducted the Power Committee round the project sites explained the various stages reached at each site and that with the coperation and dedication of the House Committee on Power and Energy, the Rural Electrification Board stand to benefit more as all projects embarked upon shall be completed and according to specifications.

He said to ensure security of the projects, each electrification sub station has been installed two solar lights and CCTV Camera.

In a decisive victory for the APC House of Assembly primary election held nationwide, the member representing Ikwo North Constituency and APC consensus candidate for Ikwo North Constituency Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu has emerged triumphantly as the APC candidate for Ikwo North Constituency in the forthcoming General elections.

The lawmaker who secured a total of 10,761 votes across ten wards of Ikwo North Constituency was declared the winner of the elections by the Electoral Committee Chairman, Hon Nwenyi Kizito.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu who participated in the primaries in his Ndiagu Echara Ward 1 collation centre at CPS Omege Echara appreciated stakeholders, voters and party loyalists who came out in large numbers to support him on his reelection bid come 2027. HON GODWIN ABIRI EMERGES WINNER IN APC HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PRAMARIES CONDUCTED IN IZZI WEST STATE CONSTITUENCY.

Izzi West State Constituency All Progressive Congress Party (APC) primary election held on Wednesday 20th May 2026 witnessed heavy mobilisation of party members and supporters across across seven wards of the Constituency with Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri featuring as consensus candidate.


Hon Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly who secured the party ticket with highest number of votes across the wards of Izzi West was declared the winner of the election by the Electoral Committee Chairman Hon Ogbonnia Okorie .

Hon Okorie while declaring the result appreciated the APC members for coming out in thier thousands to participate in the primaries saying it proved that there is hope in electoral the country.

Speaking at Agbaja Central School Nwofe after his emergence , Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri commended the State Governor Rt Hon Builder Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for been actual leader and a democrat and thanked the stakeholders and the entire APC supporters for thier loyalty , trust and belief in his political vision, urging them to remain peaceful and orderly as he would make the Constituency and APC Party proud in his second tenure.

The lawmaker eulogised Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for the level playing ground and peaceful atmosphere that enabled all aspirants across the state to be elected as candidates.

- SPEAKER ODUNWA FELICITATES WORKERS, REAFFIRMS LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT FOR LABOUR WELFARE

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, has congratulated workers across Ebonyi State on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, reaffirming the commitment of the House of Assembly to policies and legislation that promote workers’ welfare, productivity, and sustainable development.

Chiefs Odunwa gave the message, marking the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, where workers from different sectors gathered to commemorate the annual event.

The Speaker described workers as the engine room of governance, economic growth, and societal progress, noting that their dedication, discipline, and professionalism remain critical to the continued advancement of Ebonyi State.

According to him, “This significant occasion provides an opportunity to honour the invaluable role of workers as the engine room of governance, economic productivity, and societal progress. Through commitment, discipline, and professionalism, workers remain indispensable partners in the collective task of nation-building and sustainable development.”

HON. CHIEF ABIRI GODWIN ABIRI SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PUT OVER 40 STUDENTS ON HIGH PARADE

The Member representing Izzi West State Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, has continued the disbursement of scholarship awards to students in his constituency, numbering over Fourty beneficiaries and amounting to over seven million naira.

The event, which took place at his Ogbagharu village, Ndiechi Ezza Inyimagu Community in Izzi LGA, equally witnessed the donation of school bands and the inauguration of a four-classroom block built by Hon. Chief Godwin Abiri for Ogbagharu Community Primary School.

Hon. Chief Abiri thanked the State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for providing better opportunities for Ebonyi people to thrive, describing the establishment of two universities, including the ICT University Oferekpe, as one of the best things that have happened to people in the area and Ebonyi State in general.

The lawmaker stated that his decision to invest in education was to ensure that benefiting students do not experience interruptions due to financial difficulties in their academic pursuits. He also advised students who are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

He appreciated the Godwin Abiri Scholarship Foundation (GASF) for discharging their duties creditably and promised to increase the number of beneficiaries under the scheme in the near future.

Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri maintained that investment in education outlives a generation, adding that he is committed to sustaining the program for as long as possible. However, he cautioned beneficiaries against complacency in their academic work, noting that poor performance could lead to disqualification.

Speaking also, the Chairman of the Godwin Abiri Foundation, Hon. Paulinus Alegu, described Hon. Abiri as an exceptional leader whose close relationship with the people enables him to understand and address their needs.

The Chairman of the occasion and member of the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, Hon. Chris Uchaji, commended the lawmaker for the laudable initiative, especially at a challenging time, and urged the students to justify the gesture.

Also speaking, the former Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Godwin Nwogbaga, and the traditional ruler of Ndegu Ezza Inyimagu Community, Eze Linus Nwizi, appreciated Hon. Abiri for fulfilling his campaign promises and wished him a successful second tenure.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Chairmen from the seven wards of Izzi West Constituency, alongside the APC Local Government Area Executives, led by APC Ward Chairman of all the Chairmen, Chief Sunday Nwofoke, moved a motion for the endorsement of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for a second tenure in office. The motion was seconded by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Library Development, Barr. Pius Nwoga Abiri, who described the Governor as aligned with the aspirations of Ebonyi people at all times.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Master Christian Nwoga and Miss Fidelia Oshim expressed gratitude to their benefactor and pledged to remain dedicated to their studies.

Ward Executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Ikwo South Constituency, alongside Local Government Party Executives from the constituency, have unanimously endorsed the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, for re-election as the Member representing Ikwo South Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.

The endorsement was made during a well-attended meeting held at the Inyimegu residence of the Speaker, with Ward Chairmen, Ward Secretaries, Youth Leaders, Women Leaders, and other Local Government Party Executives from the constituency in attendance.

Speaking during the gathering, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. Sunday Onuzu, commended Chief Odunwa for what he described as outstanding and people-oriented representation. - SPEAKER ODUNWA EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN LASTING PEACE AS EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT MOVES TO RESOLVE BOUNDARY DISPUTE BETWEEN EKPOMAKA AND INYIMEGU

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, has expressed confidence that the final verdict of the Ebonyi State Government on the lingering boundary dispute between Inyimegu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo Local Government Area will guarantee lasting peace and stability in the area.

Chief Odunwa made this known when he led the State Peace Implementation Committee on an inspection and fact-finding visit to the disputed land, accompanied by representatives of both communities, security personnel, and government officials.

The Speaker, who also serves as Chairman of the Peace Implementation Committee, said the visit was necessary to enable government officials obtain first-hand knowledge of the terrain and disputed boundaries before the final decision is reached.

Speaking after the extensive exercise, Chief Odunwa thanked God for the successful completion of the assignment and commended all participants for their endurance, cooperation, and commitment to peace.

“We began this journey through the bushes and forest from about 10:00 a.m., and by the grace of God, we have been able to trace the boundaries,” he said.

He conveyed the goodwill message of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to the communities and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting the government’s final decision.

“His Excellency sends his felicitations to these communities for honouring this peace process. He has asked me to urge everyone to remain peaceful as we await the final verdict. Whatever decision the government takes will be in the best interest of the people,” he stated.

Chief Odunwa further praised the spirit of unity displayed during the exercise, noting that peaceful coexistence remains the only sustainable path forward.

“You can see how we moved together, joked together, and worked together even inside the forest. That is how it should be. Fighting and killing are unnecessary, and that is what this government is determined to stop,” he said.

He assured the communities that Governor Nwifuru remains fully committed to a fair and transparent resolution of the dispute.

“The Governor also directed the Surveyor-General to personally participate in this exercise to ensure that accurate facts are obtained. I can assure you that in the shortest possible time, government will make its position known, and I believe the verdict will be fair to all parties,” he added.

Also speaking, the Surveyor-General of Ebonyi State, Surveyor John Igbede, said his presence at the site was in compliance with the directive of the Governor.

“The Governor directed that I should be here personally. We are here strictly for fact-finding as expert witnesses. We are not taking sides. Our duty is to ascertain the true position on ground,” he said.

The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barrister Sunday Basil Nwankwo, commended Governor Nwifuru for his strategic leadership and commitment to peace.

“We thank His Excellency for being a strategic thinker. We have confidence in his wisdom and leadership, and we believe he will arrive at a decision that will be fair to everyone and bring this dispute to an end,” he said.

The Traditional Ruler of Okpoitumo Ikwo Autonomous Community, Eze Ezekiel Oyika, also praised the Governor for initiating the peace process and urged both communities to take advantage of the initiative and embrace peace and reconciliation.

Representatives of the two communities, Mr. Simon Nworie of Ekpomaka and Mr. Simon Opherekpe of Inyimegu, expressed appreciation to the Ebonyi State Government for the intervention and pledged to accept the final verdict in the interest of peace and progress. They also expressed optimism that the government’s decision would usher in a new era of harmony and lasting peace between both communities.
