Saraki, who is yet to formally declare his interest in running for the highest office in the land, said this in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Thursday. The former governor of Kwara State responded to a tweet by a user, @AriyoAristotle, who posted a suggestive campaign poster with his picture. Saraki stated that he would ensure that all Nigerians had a greater sense of what it means to be a citizen of Nigeria, adding that he was the “Nigerian for all Nigerians!”. He urged citizens not to focus on past events and individual differences, but on the future of Nigeria. Saraki wrote, “For quite some time now, as a nation, we have focused on the old arguments of ethnicity and regional sentiments, instead of capacity, competence, and other critical issues. “For quite some time now, as a nation, we have focused on the old arguments of ethnicity and regional sentiments, instead of capacity, competence, and other critical issues. “This is why, based on my track record, if I am allowed to lead, all Nigerians will have a greater sense of what it means to be truly Nigerian. “And yes, I believe that I am the ‘Nigerian for all Nigerians!’” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/02/what-ill-do-for-nigerians-if-allowed-to-lead-saraki/amp/

Published 3 February 2022 An elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, on Thursday, cautioned a fellow elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, against issuing threats when contributing to national discourse. Yakasai, who is in his late 90s, cautioned Clark in a statement, titled, “An appeal to the elderly Nigerians for constructive engagement in National discourse”, and made available to the Punch in Kano. He said, “I wish to comment on a statement, credited to my good friend, Chief E.K. Clark and published in the media concerning the part of the country that should produce our President in the coming presidential election in 2023. “My comment is predicated on the interview granted by one of my old friends, Chief Edwin Clark. The part of the statement that incurred my displeasure is where Chief Clark issued a veiled threat on the issue of unity and peaceful coexistence affecting different communities living together in our country.” According to the statement, Yakasai, who was a former Senior Adviser on National Assembly matters to ex-President Shehu Shagari, observed that in most of Clark’s comments on important national discourse, the elder statesman issues some kind of threats about the unity and peace in our country. Yakasai said, “Chief Clark is not the only elder statesman that issues such threats on unity and peaceful coexistence in our country. There is another elder statesman, who is also a friend of mine and who is fond of resorting to threats when discussing national issues.’ “I think at our age, we should avoid resorting to threats whenever we are discussing national issues. What is expected of people at our age is to provide leadership by way of offering advice and correcting any mistake we discovered made by younger Nigerians in the course of national discourse. “Threats are not expected from senior citizens in any country. What is expected of the senior citizens is leadership, moderation, and guidance. At the age of more than one hundred years of existence as a united country, what Nigeria needs from the leaders is maturity in any discussion, so that those of us with advancement in age would be moderation and exemplary leadership to the younger generation.” Threats, Yakasai emphasised doesn’t fall into the category expected of people, who are on their way to celebrating their centenary. He, therefore, appealed to “fellow elderly colleagues to please watch their language when contributing in an important national discourse”, stressing that will “make their contributions more positive in moving our nation forward than disuniting it”. The Indigenous People of Biafra has asked its members to flood the Abuja Federal High Court on Wednesday, February 2, 2021 for the trial of four “gentlemen of the movement”. IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, made the call in a statement on Saturday. According to him, four members of the group will “be in court over the frivolous and empty charges preferred against them by the Federal Government of Nigeria on February 2, 2022″. He urge Biafrans around Abuja and the Northern states to solidarise with them and not abandon them. The statement reads, “We want to inform all Biafrans that the following gentlemen of our movement: Mazi Chidebere Onwudiwe, Mazi David Nwawuishi, Mazi Bright Ishinwa Chimezie and Mazi Benjamin Madubugwu, will be in court over the frivolous and empty charges preferred against them by the Federal Government of Nigeria on February 2, 2022. “The wicked Nigerian Government and its Fulani cabals see Nigeria as their conquered estate handed over to them by the colonial masters. “We cannot abandon these patriots at any point. So, we urge Biafrans around Abuja and Northern States to solidarise with them on that day. IPOB members across Northern region must solidarise with them on February 2, 2022. “The bogus charges preferred against them have no merit and does not hold water. Self determination activities in the world are not criminal activities. “The Federal Government cannot win IPOB in the court of competent jurisdiction because freedom is inelinable right of every human being. IPOB is only following the laws of the land both international and local. “We know the desperation of the Nigerian Government to influence the international community to stop Biafra restoration but they will not succeed at all.” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/01/ipob-asks-members-to-flood-abuja-court-during-trial-of-four-nnamdi-kanus-supporters-on-february-2/amp/

Published 29 January 2022 The governor-elect of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, says politics has become a big business in Nigeria, adding that many drug barons and internet scammers have flocked into politics to avoid being arrested. Soludo, an ex-governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who won the November 6, 2021 Anambra governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, spoke on Saturday. He spoke on ‘The Purpose and Price of Disruptive Change’ at the first graduation of the School of Politics, Policy and Governance Pioneer in Abuja. The school was founded by former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili Soludo said, “Indeed, Africa needs a new liberation movement. The first struggle was liberation from the colonial masters. The second will be liberation from rentier politics and politicians. For me, there is almost a sense of nostalgia, recalling the mission and accomplishments of our founding fathers, especially as we contemplate the world without oil in Nigeria. “Much of the existing social order is founded on competition for, and distribution of, rents. Oil and the easy money that came with it destroyed the social fabric and the elite created new institutions and political structures to maximize their gains. As the noose tightened globally on other rentier/criminal enterprises such as drug trafficking or internet scamming, many of the barons flocked into politics as the next easy alternative. “Politics has become big business. Appointment or election into public office is seen largely as an opportunity to ‘eat’ rather than a call to selfless service. There is an army of rich (big men) who have never worked or done any productive work in their life and believe that it is their right to expect something for nothing. “The tiny less than one per cent elite have a stranglehold on the public purse, sprinkling occasional crumbs to the citizens as ‘dividends of democracy’. The citizens themselves either out of helplessness or acquiescence join the party, expecting the politicians to dole out pittance out of public treasury as charity.” According to the governor-elect who would assume office in March, Nigeria is now at a fiscal cliff with a crunching solvency challenge. “Youth unemployment, insecurity, poverty, inflation, etc threaten the social fabric. Migrating to a post-oil world of 4th Industrial revolution and sustainable prosperity will require massive disruptive transformations and restoration of a productive social contract. “Such disruptions will come at great costs, and could indeed be dangerous. “Fixing politics requires talent and skills. But these won’t be enough. It won’t happen by lone wolves working in silos. It requires new developmental organisations – organisations/teams of believers, driven by defined ideology, purpose and character,” he submitted. The Nigerian Communications Commission’s Cyber Security Incident Response Team has warned Nigerians against charging mobile phones using public charging ports or sockets in order to protect them from cyber attacks. It also warned against accepting charging cables or chargers from strangers in public places. NCC-CSIRT said the method known as Juice Jacking, is part of two cyber vulnerabilities it identified, the other being Facebook for Android Friend Acceptance Vulnerability, which targets only Android Operating System. This was disclosed in a statement by Director, Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde. The statement said Juice Jacking can gain access into consumers’ devices when charging mobile phones at public charging stations and applies to all mobile phones. The statement reads, “Many public spaces, restaurants, malls and even in the public trains do offer complementary services to their customers in a bid to enhance customer services, one of which is providing charging ports or sockets. However, an attacker can leverage this courtesy to load a payload in the charging station or on the cables they would leave plugged in at the stations. “Once unsuspecting persons plug their phones at the charging station or the cable left by the attacker, the payload is automatically downloaded on the victims’ phone. This payload then gives the attacker remote access to the mobile phone, allowing them to monitor data transmitted as text, or audio using the microphone. “The attacker can also watch the victim in real time if the victims’ camera is not covered. The attacker is also given full access to the gallery and also to the phone’s Global Positioning System location. “When an attacker gains access to a user’s Mobile phone, he gets remote access to the User’s phone which leads to breach in confidentiality, violation of data integrity and bypass of authentication mechanisms. Symptoms of attack may include sudden spike in battery consumption, device operating slower than usual, apps taking a long time to load, and when they load they crash frequently and cause abnormal data usage. “The NCC-CSIRT, however, proffered solutions to this attack to include using ‘charging only USB cable’, to avoid Universal Serial Bus data connection; using one’s AC charging adaptor in public space; and not granting trust to portable devices prompt for USB data connection. “Other preventive measures against Juice Jacking include installing Antivirus and updating them to the latest definitions always; keeping mobile devices up to date with the latest patches; using one’s own power bank; keeping mobile phone off when charging in public places; as well as ensuring use of one’s own charger, if one must charge in public. “The NCC-CSIRT Advisory 0001 also warned that Facebook for Android is vulnerable to a permission issue which gives privilege to anyone with physical access to the android device to accept friend requests without unlocking the phone. The products affected include Versions 329.0.0.29.120 of Android OS. “With this, the attacker will be able to add the victim as a friend and collect personal information of the victim, such as email, date of birth, check-ins, mobile phone number, address, pictures and other information that the victim may have shared, which would only be visible to his/her friends. “To be protected from the Facebook-associated vulnerability, NCC-CSIRT in the security advisory recommends to users to disable the feature from their device’s lock screen notification settings. “The NCC-CSIRT was inaugurated in October, 2021 to provide guidance and direction for the constituents in dealing with issues relating to the security of critical infrastructure in their possession, and periodically assess, review and collate the threat landscape, risks, and opportunities affecting the communications sector, in order to provide advice to relevant stakeholders in those regards.” Source: https://semmatloaded.com/2022/01/why-nigerians-should-stop-charging-phones-in-trains-restaurants-others/amp/

Published 29 January 2022 Clashes broke out Saturday between Kurdish forces and Islamic State group fighters near a Syrian prison where dozens of jihadists are still holed up, a war monitor said. An IS assault on the sprawling Ghwayran prison complex near the northeastern Syrian city of Hasakeh on January 20 sparked days of heavy fighting that has left some 260 people dead. The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces announced they had recaptured the prison on Wednesday, but that mop-up operations continued. On Saturday, there were “clashes in the vicinity of the prison between the Syrian Democratic Forces and Kurdish security forces on the one hand, and members of IS who are hiding in the area,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. The war monitor, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria, said that four IS fighters are holding a local official and three civilians hostage in a residential building near the prison. The SDF said Wednesday some 3,500 IS members had surrendered, but that holdout IS fighters had barricaded themselves inside the prison facility. The IS gunmen are in “cellars that are difficult to target with air strikes or infiltrate” the Observatory said. SDF officials estimate that between 60 and 90 IS fighters were still in the basement and the ground floor above it. An AFP correspondent reported that US troops and Kurdish-led forces have surrounded the building and deployed snipers on nearby rooftops, reporting there was intermittent shooting. Kurdish forces have repeatedly called for IS gunmen to surrender. “Our forces have not used force with them so far,” Farhad Shami, who heads the SDF’s media office, said Saturday. Kurdish-led forces have banned journalists from accessing the Ghwayran neighbourhood or approaching the prison since the start of the attack. The fighting has killed more than 260 people, including around 180 jihadists, 73 Kurdish-led fighters and seven civilians, the Observatory said, adding that the death toll is likely to increase. The violence forced 45,000 people to flee Hasakeh, the United Nations said. Many took refuge in their relatives’ homes, while hundreds others have been sleeping in the city’s mosques and wedding halls.
