Please let me take you down the memory lane. After winning the AFCON that year, Nigeria was the cynosure of all during the world cup. Our ever first attempt at the world cup! The team won its first match against Bulgaria (3-0) , then Greece (2-0) ,and lost to the Argentines(2-1). That was when maradona held sway as king of soccer. The knock- out stage was the peak. Nigeria lost closely to Italy, no thanks Dino Baggio and the Italian coach Arigo Sacchi.
The Bulgarians that we won 3-0 in our first match,eventually competed for the third place.

We beat Bulgaria 3-0 which could have been 3-1 as Hristo Stoichkov's free kick goal for Bulgaria was disallowed. The 2nd game was a 2-1 loss to Argentina with Samson Siasia chipping the ball past Islas in goal for Argentina and Claudio Cannigia working his way to 2 goals first via a quick freekick from Late Diego Maradona and secondly through lapses between Sunday Oliseh, Austin Eguavoen and Uche Okechukwu. The 3rd game was characterised by late goals in both halves from Daniel Amokachi and Finidi George with a "dog pee" celebration by Finidi George. The 2nd round against Italy saw an Emmanuel Amunike lead maintained till 87th minute with Eguavoen's weaknesses yet exposed leading to equaliser by Roberto Baggio and later a winner in the extra time by same Roberto Baggio. Sad painful day it was as I couldn't eat then.

Umar Sadiq is the worst player in the current squad without question followed by Nwakali.

I would rather have short man Moses Simon playing as a center forward than Sadiq 100%. Just as Raheem Sterling does for England.

The modern game with modern proficient players, particularly forward players many can play center forward as well as wing. Rashford, Mane, Salah, Antonio, Benzema, Mbappe, etc

Hence I would rather have Olayinka and Onyekuru up from than Sadiq.

Austin Eguavoen – (Replaced Christian Chukwu During The Combined 2006 AFCON/World Cup Qualifiers)

Former Green Eagles defender Christian 'Chairman' Chukwu was in charge of the Super Eagles and led Nigeria to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations where Nigeria were semi-finalists. Nigerians were then happy with the work of Chukwu.

But things turned on its head in the combined qualifiers for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup.

The Super Eagles were confident of reaching a fourth consecutive appearance at the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006 but after an insipid 1-1 draw against Angola in the sunny Sani Abacha Stadium on June 18, 2005, the Nigeria Football Association axed Chukwu and replaced him with Austin Eguavoen.

Eguevoen completed Nigeria's two remaining qualifying games against Algeria away in Oran which the Eagles won 5-2 and the 5-1 win against Zimbabwe at the Abuja National Stadium.

Unfortunately, Nigeria could not reach the 2006 FIFA World Cup as the Head-to-Head rules which was used to determine the qualified teams for that year's tournament favoured Angola who consequently made their debut appearance at Germany 2006..

Both teams finished on 21 points with Nigeria having a better goals difference of +14 while the Palancras Negras had +6.

Nigeria made do with an appearance at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt along with Angola and Zimbabwe

During the 2006 World Cup qualification phase, Chukwu was blamed for inept coaching and management of the Nigerian national football team, *and two matches before the qualifying campaign was over, he was suspended*. In two matches – home and away – against eventual group winners Angola, Nigeria failed to win either one of those two encounters. This was blamed on Chukwu and those two crucial failures eventually led to Nigeria failing to qualify for the World Cup, after having appeared at all World Cup finals tournaments since their debut in 1994.

Am a Nigerian but I refuse to be an hypocrite before Genort rohr appointment Nigeria failed to make 2 Afcon in a row which were coach by our local coaches he came him and won his ist 4games in a row even qualified us from a group of death , ha has qualified us for 3 major tournaments without the calculators, he also change almost the entire squad only iwobi,ihenacho, balogun,ekong and omeruo survived , the players we ate all praising is Genort rohr players only sadiq n nwankali is the players eguaveon added to the set up . if Eguaveon can finish Third yes he has pass the test for me I know people we say we beat an unconvincingly Egypt . but Rohr also beat Cameroon and south Africa who beat the host nation Egypt.
