From the Pitch to the Polity: Examining Nigeria’s Culture of Tolerance.

I have been deeply reflecting on the bold and principled stance taken by the Senegalese team during the Morocco vs. Senegal final at the just-concluded AFCON tournament. Their decision to stage a walk-off in protest of blatant injustice compels an unavoidable comparison with Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, and by extension, with Nigerians as a people.

After an intense but goalless match, the game descended into chaos in second-half stoppage time following two highly controversial decisions against Senegal, the second being a last-minute penalty awarded to Morocco rather than submit quietly, Senegal’s manager, Pape Thiaw, courageously led his players off the pitch and into the dressing room. That single act symbolized collective dignity, resistance, and an uncompromising rejection of injustice.

This is precisely the spirit Nigerians lack both on the football field and in national life. The same absence of courage was evident during the Super Eagles’ semifinal clash with Morocco. Had the Super Eagles been subjected to the level of injustice Senegal faced, would they have staged a walk-off? My answer is unequivocal: no. They would have endured it, just as Nigerians have consistently endured oppression, exploitation, and systemic injustice at home.

From the 1914 annexation that forcefully merged incompatible entities to the illegitimately imposed 1999 Constitution, which many Nigerians acknowledge as the foundational source of the country’s dysfunction there has been a tragic pattern of acquiescence. The consequences are glaring: a Fulani conquest onslaught, entrenched corruption, economic suffocation, and the relentless killings of Christians and people of other faiths. Yet, despite this catalogue of suffering, the majority of Nigerians continue to tolerate the intolerable.

What is truly disturbing is the contradiction on display. Nigerians enthusiastically celebrate the boldness of Senegalese footballers who resisted injustice, yet shy away from the courage required to confront and reject the root causes of their own misery How can a people be so empathetic toward the resistance of others while remaining docile, silent, and short-sighted in the face of their own oppression?

The reality is stark: Nigerians will continue to be exploited, dehumanized, and tormented by the political class for as long as they refuse to confront the foundational fraud upon which the Nigerian state rests. Liberation will not come through elections, nor through empty patriotism, but through disciplined political consciousness and collective action.

This is why Nigerians must seriously examine the NINAS Movement’s 5-Point Proposition beginning with the rejection of the illegitimately imposed Constitution and the demand for a clear, time-bound transition toward genuine union reconstruction. Anything short of this is a continuation of servitude.

Until Nigerians find the courage to say “enough,” they will remain tools in the hands of predatory politicians and Fulani agents acting on behalf of their British principals—the true beneficiaries of the criminal enterprise known as Nigeria.

Resistance is not chaos. Silence is. It's time to loudly say... We reject the fraudulent 1999 Constitution as well as other political downwardness

According to a report by the Punch on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the opposition Labour Party and the New Nigeria People's Party have strongly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress's ongoing digital membership registration drive.

They view the exercise, which the APC says aims to enroll up to nine million people, as a foundational part of a strategy to manipulate the 2027 general elections.

The Labour Party's acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, called for intense public scrutiny of the APC's announced figures.

Her spokesperson, Ken Asogwa, cautioned that electoral malpractice is often a long-term project, stating, "polls are not rigged on election day. They are rigged months and years before the main election.

He specifically challenged the APC's reported numbers, highlighting the pledge by the Enugu State governor to register two million people in a state with no traditional support for the ruling party.

The Labour Party argues that the APC's nine-million-member target is a deliberate effort to create a pretext for inflating future election results.

Asogwa framed the entire registration as an early-stage rigging operation and drew parallels to past disputes over voter registration conducted by INEC.

In a similar vein, the NNPP's National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, dismissed the APC's claims as a repetitive and ineffective tactic.

He asserted that Nigerians are familiar with such maneuvers and that they pose no credible threat, questioning the willingness of citizens to participate in what he implied was a pointless exercise.

These accusations arise as APC leadership celebrates the registration's early success.

Party officials have projected a membership surge into the millions and have threatened to replace state coordinators who fail to meet registration targets.

He further stated that once all necessary logistics are fully put in place, official updates will be released. Based on our discussion, there is strong hope that this month may bring good news 🙏

However, he also gave very important advice that everyone must take seriously:

👉 Applicants should not depend solely on a government job.

He revealed that less than 7% of the total applicants will eventually be selected. This means that even when the update is released and final selections are made, the majority will not make it—not because they are not good, but because the slots are very limited.

According to a report by Arise News, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State remains a focal point of national discourse as the State House of Assembly intensifies its efforts to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy from office.

This escalating friction has triggered widespread debate throughout Nigeria, leading many political observers to scrutinise the underlying intentions and the specific timing of these impeachment proceedings.

During an appearance on the political analysis show News Night, Dr Ibrahim Modibo offered his perspective on the deepening rift. He characterised the current instability as a manifestation of a raw power struggle rather than a pursuit of better administration for the people.

Dr Modibo argued that the move to oust the governor is disproportionate and unwarranted, particularly given the sensitive and precarious nature of the nation's democratic framework.

In addressing the specific grievances cited by the legislators, Dr Modibo expressed scepticism regarding their validity. The House of Assembly has levelled several accusations against the governor, including the destruction of the legislative complex, disputes over the state budget, and the alleged restriction of statutory funding.

Nevertheless, Dr Modibo brushed aside these allegations as flimsy and unpersuasive, suggesting that the motivations behind them seem more like personal vendettas than serious constitutional infractions.

In his words, “If God can forgive us of our sins, I do not see why the Rivers State House of Assembly should not be able to forgive the governor.”

He maintained that the essence of leadership should not be overshadowed by relentless political warfare, especially since the state has already faced significant upheaval from past administrative disruptions, such as the era of the sole administrator.

Furthermore, Dr Modibo pointed out that several points of contention raised by the lawmakers, particularly the budgetary disagreements, have already seen resolutions at the federal level.

He contended that persisting with impeachment over issues that have effectively been settled only serves to heighten political anxiety and divert attention away from meaningful governance.

The analyst also took the opportunity to acknowledge the positive strides made under Governor Fubara’s leadership, specifically noting the consistent payment of civil servant salaries, retiree pensions, and various social welfare initiatives for the vulnerable. Dr Modibo emphasised that such tangible progress should be weighed against the political friction currently dominating the headlines.

Dr Modibo cautioned that if impeachment processes are allowed to be fuelled by private agendas, it could establish a hazardous trend for the future of Nigerian democracy.

He urged political figures and party hierarchies to prioritise stability and act with a sense of duty, underscoring that a healthy democracy relies on the principles of communication, patience, and reconciliation rather than perpetual hostility.

As you can see in this Video, Hon Dave Umahi, the Hon minister of works, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser to the President, Hope Uzodinma, Executive Governor of Imo State, and many other APC Big Boys storms Rivers State government House on a courtesy call on Fubara last night amids impeachment process by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

This Video alone speak louder than a thousand speeches. This convergence of this powerful APC figures in Rivers State Government House at such a sensitive moment is not accidental, nor is it ceremonial. It is symbolic, it is strategic. It is a loud political statement: the ground beneath Wike’s feet is no longer firm.

Wike right from when he was governor, operates as if power was personal property—as if institutions existed to serve his will, not the people’s mandate.

Wike carries himself as a demigod on earth, untouchable, unquestionable, and unaccountable. I have said it before that, one day, just one day, Wike will live to regret this his arrogance, because Power, when abused, eventually abandons its abuser.

Wike failed to understand that political alliances are transactional, not emotional, he failed to understand that the arrangement that the deal between him and Tinubu and APC has clearly expired.

Wike don't want to believe that President Tinubu and APC now sees Wike as a liability to them, and if care is not taken, Wike will be removed from the ministerial position that is making him misbehave.

In today’s politic, usefulness determines survival—and when a player becomes a liability, sentiment disappears, and the signals are clear that the umbrella has closed, the shield withdrawn, and the protection gone.

And if he din not quickly humble himself now, he will end up without any strong political party, because the PDP he fractured has stacked him and moved on with resolve, and from all indication, the APC has made its position clear on anything Wike, and no serious political platform will love to accommodate a man who treats structures with contempt and loyalty as disposable like Wike.

I pray this serves as a lesson to those politician who believes power is permanent, who elevates ego above humility. I pray they understand that no matter how loud your voice is, how deep your pockets are, or how wide your influence is—there is always an end.

Power is borrowed, authority is temporary, and history is unforgiving.

May this serve as a solemn warning to all of them who see themselves as small gods on earth: there is a time for rising, and there is a time for reckoning. And when that time comes, no amount of bluster can stop the fall.

The planned defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is irreversible, a top state government source told LEADERSHIP yesterday.

This is despite a warning from the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that the governor must relinquish office if he leaves the party.

Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Kano State governor, had publicly urged Yusuf, his political protégé, to vacate the governorship should he defect from the NNPP, insisting that the mandate belonged to the party.

He also declared his openness to align with any political platform willing to present him as either presidential or vice-presidential candidate in future elections.

However, a highly placed source within the Government House told our correspondent that Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC can no longer be reversed.

According to the source, the governor is expected to move with his political supporters across the state, including nine out of Kano’s 13 members of the House of Representatives, 20 out of the 27 members of the State House of Assembly — including the Speaker and all principal officers — as well as 42 of the 44 local government chairmen.

The source further disclosed that Kwankwaso’s resistance to joining the APC is linked to his inability to secure either the presidential or vice-presidential slot on the party’s platform, a position he reportedly reiterated recently at his Miller Road residence in Kano.

On the internal NNPP crisis, the source said Governor Yusuf has effectively taken control of the party’s structure in the state, following the suspension of the erstwhile state chairman, Hashim Dungurawa — a decision affirmed by the Kano State High Court.

This, the source added, puts the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in contempt of court for dissolving the Kano State executive committees from ward to state levels despite the subsisting court order.

Efforts to obtain official reaction from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, were unsuccessful, as he has consistently declined media engagement since the crisis began.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso, while addressing supporters in Kano, reiterated that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains open to alliances but only on terms that guarantee him either the number one or number two position.

Political observers in Kano, however, view Governor Yusuf’s move not as betrayal, but as a strategic alignment with the federal government aimed at safeguarding political survival and securing greater benefits for the state.

The history of Onitsha began with the migration of its people from the Benin Empire towards the end of early part of the Sixteenth Century AD. The migration was as a result of a wave of unrest, war and displacement unleashed by the Islamic movement from North Africa.
It was during their passage through the outskirts of Ile-Ife that they acquired the name Onitsha – a corruption of the Yoruba word Orisha and Udo, the famous shrine worshipped by the people. As time went on, the combination of the two words, Onitsha for Orisha and Ado for Udo culminated in the present name , Onitsha Ado.


The people of Onitsha left the out skirts of Ile-Ife and resettled in the Benin Kingdom and soon established themselves as one of the clans in the Benin Kingdom exercising all the rights and privileges attached thereon.
As a result of a long process of acculturation in Benin, the Onitsha people jealously guarded their acquired rights particularly with regard to their revered Shrine Udo.
It was suggested that the reason why the Onitsha people quarreled with Oba Esigie, (1404-1550), of Benin was because of the slight, the Oba gave their shrine-Udo. It was customary for newly installed Oba to pay homage to all important Shrines in the Benin Kingdom by slaughtering a cow in the shrines enclave. Oba Esigie failed to do this at the Onitsha people’s Udo-Shrine, hence the quarrel.

It took the Onitsha people several years before they got to Obior and Ilah and finally crossed the River Niger and established Onitsha Ado. They stopped at several places in the then Mid-West now called Delta State, places like Agbor, Issele-Uku, etc. This explains the affinity with the inhabitants of Delta State like Ilah, Issele-Uku, Obbaamkpa, Onitsha-Olona, Onitsha Ugbo, Agbo, Obior, Onitsha Ukwu and so on.

Yes, it's small but there is still a long process for the landlord to go through before he can evict you

Victory At Last: Governor Fintiri Grants Pardon To Jackson and Others


Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has granted pardon to Sunday Jackson, who was sentenced to death, alongside two others, Joseph Eugene and Maxwell Ibrahim. The pardon is part of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Five other inmates also had their sentences remitted.

Sunday Jackson was sentenced to death for killing a herdsman, Buba Bawuro, in self-defense while working on his farm in 2015. The decision to pardon Jackson has been welcomed by human rights advocates and the Gongola Peoples Forum, who argued that Jackson acted in self-defense.

Governor Fintiri cited the inmates' good conduct and behavior as the reason for the pardon, exercising his prerogative of mercy as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

HOW TO IDENTIFY THOSE IMPERSONATING NSCDC OFFICER ON VIP PROTECTION DUTY

Despite the Presidential Order withdrawing men of the Nigeria Police Force from VIP protection duties and redeploying them back to core police duties, reports have indicated that some errant police officers have thrown caution into the wind by dressing in a manner which resembles that of the NSCDC.

Here are few tips with which you can identify a fake NSCDC officers on VIP protection duty :

1. Not having the authentic NSCDC ID card
2. Name and service number not on the database of NSCDC
4. Dressing: Wearing of the black SF uniform or the NSCDC blue uniform without red neck, no name tag, no badge, no rank.
5. Wearing of face mask: Mostly many of them wear face mask to further conceal their face.
6. Type of Riffle : They are usually detected by the type of weapon (AK 47) underfolding butt stock in their hand which is quietly different from the AK 56 type 1, and AK 56 type 2 bayonet, as well as Bulgaria Arsenal AR-M1, AK 103, CS/LS2 Bullpup, G3 HK and CETME being commonly used by the NSCDC.
7. Lack of Confidence. Whenever they are outside, they dodge themselves whenever they see a fellow Policeman or a real NSCDC officer
8. There are also some of them wearing suit, or Mufti and carrying pistol and even buttless AK and serving as driver and or Body Guards to the VIPs.
9. Psychological relational behavior. Whenever they find themselves where the real NSCDC personnel are present, they find it difficult to mingle and relate with the personnel. This according to Behavioural psychology is not an attitude of real NSCDC personnel. So, this behavioural conduct usually gives them out.
10. They mostly don't know the slogan used by the NSCDC arms bearers.
11. If you try to establish a communication with them, they won't answer you and they quickly leave the scene.
12. They don't know the structure of NSCDC and some terminologies in the Corps.

The Office of Abubakar Malami, SAN, issues this follow-up statement to explain, with clarity and restraint, why the continued involvement of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in matters relating to Abubakar Malami, SAN, is legally untenable, morally indefensible, and constitutionally impermissible.

This statement is focused squarely on Chapter 9 of the Justice Ayo Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry Report and how the unresolved implications of that chapter have now crystallised into what can only be described as a personal vendetta masquerading as law enforcement.

Chapter 9 of the Salami Report: The Root of the Conflict

While serving as Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, supervised the establishment of the Justice Ayo Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate allegations of corruption and abuse of office within the EFCC.

At the material time, the current EFCC Chairman served as Secretary to the Commission.

Chapter 9 of the Salami Report addressed the conduct and responsibilities of senior EFCC officials, particularly those occupying key administrative and decision-making positions within the Commission. The chapter speaks directly to institutional accountability and created personal and professional exposure for certain individuals who are today exercising prosecutorial power over the very Attorney-General to whom the report was submitted.

Viewed against this background, the present actions of the EFCC cannot reasonably be interpreted as neutral law enforcement. They amount to retaliatory persecution driven by historical animosity and personal vendetta.

Why the EFCC Chairman Must Recuse Himself

The law on recusal is settled.

No person is permitted to sit in judgment over a matter in which they have a personal interest or prior exposure. The applicable test is the reasonable apprehension of bias, not proof of actual malice. Where such apprehension exists, recusal is mandatory, not optional.

Any reasonable observer, properly apprised of the facts surrounding Chapter 9 of the Salami Report, would conclude that Abubakar Malami, SAN, cannot receive an impartial investigation or prosecution under the present leadership of the EFCC.

Human Rights Abuses and Trial by Media

The continued handling of this matter has resulted in grave violations, including:
• The violation of the right to personal liberty guaranteed under Section 35 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
• The violation of the right to fair hearing under Section 36 of the Constitution;
• A sustained trial by media through selective leaks and public commentary designed to secure public condemnation before judicial determination.

This approach undermines not only the constitutional rights of Abubakar Malami, SAN, but also the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions.

From Institutional Scrutiny to Personal Vendetta

The present actions of the EFCC under its current leadership exhibit a troubling and consistent pattern:
• Persistent media trials and selective disclosures without due process;
• Restrictions on liberty and harassment without timely arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction;
• A deliberate attempt to criminalise lawful policy decisions taken in office, rather than identify any clear criminal offence known to law.

Such conduct confirms a shift from institutional accountability to the settlement of personal scores and grievances under the guise of law enforcement.

Our Position Remains Clear

Abubakar Malami, SAN:
• Is ready and willing to submit himself to a neutral and independent investigative process;
• Insists on being tried only before a court of competent jurisdiction;
• Rejects political settlements, intimidation, or compromise.

Our Demands

Accordingly, we reiterate our demand for:
1. The immediate recusal of the EFCC Chairman from all matters relating to Abubakar Malami, SAN;
2. The intervention of the Attorney-General of the Federation to ensure that this matter is transferred to a neutral and independent investigative authority;
3. The prompt institution of charges, if any, before a competent court of law, where evidence — not vendetta — will prevail.

Conclusion

This is not a personal dispute; it is a constitutional issue.

If the EFCC is allowed to function as an instrument for the settlement of personal scores and grievances, then the rule of law itself is imperilled. Abubakar Malami, SAN, will continue to insist on justice according to law and due process, not persecution by power.
