Tension as Olowo-in-Council Bans Suspended LG Chairman.

Says, He’s No Longer Welcome in Owo!.

The traditional leadership of Owo Kingdom, under the authority of the Olowo-in-Council, has declared the suspended Chairman of Owo Local Government, Hon. Tope Omolayo, persona-non-grata within the territory of the Kingdom.

The declaration followed Omolayo’s recent suspension by the Owo Local Government Legislative Council over alleged gross misconduct and his viral phone outburst against the Olowo of Owo Kingdom and Chairman of Ondo State Council of Obas, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III.

Although the embattled Chairman had publicly apologized during a press conference in Akure, the Olowo-in-Council, at a briefing held on Friday at the Olowo’s Palace, maintained that his continued presence in office was no longer acceptable to the people and traditional leadership of Owo.

Reading the statement on behalf of the Council, the Ogwadogbon of Owo, High Chief (Dr.) Ademola Obanonyen, said the act amounted to “utter sacrilege and crass contempt” against the revered stool of the Olowo.

He emphasized that the Council, acting in defense of the dignity of the Owo throne, had resolved that Hon. Omolayo be regarded as persona-non-grata in Owo Kingdom, adding that his “continued stay as Chairman of Owo Local Government Area is no longer acceptable.”

The Council also revealed that all LCDAs within Owo Kingdom had disassociated themselves from the conduct of the suspended Chairman, describing his outburst as “unfortunate and regrettable.”

Calling on the Ondo State Government to take “appropriate administrative steps in the interest of peace and mutual respect,” the Olowo-in-Council urged indigenes of Owo to remain calm and law-abiding.

The statement further reminded public office holders of the sanctity of traditional institutions, warning that “to insult the Olowo is to insult the entire Yoruba traditional system.”

EXPLAINER 2 : WHAT HAPPENS TO SENIOR NIGERIAN GENERALS WHEN THEIR JUNIOR IS APPOINTED SERVICE CHIEF? — CONTEXT, COUNTERVIEWS, INTERNATIONAL COMPARISONS & REFORM IMPERATIVES.

1. Context: The Recent Changes
Following the President’s recent exercise of his constitutional powers to nominate new Service Chiefs (pending NASS confirmation), the Chief of Defence Staff Gen CG Musa (38 RC), CNS Vice Admiral Ogalla (39 RC) and CAS Air Chief Marshal Hassan (39 RC) were dropped. Lt Gen Oluyode (originally 39 RC, now 40 RC) was moved to CDS.

The new nominees are:
• COAS: Maj Gen Shuaibu (41 RC)
• CNS: R/Adm Abbas (40 RC)
• CAS: AVM Aneke (40 RC)

This means the most junior among them is 41 RC. By long-standing Nigerian military tradition, all officers senior to the most junior service chief are expected to “voluntarily” retire.
For example under late PMB, when by then R/Adm AZ Gambo (36 RC) was appointed CNS together with Gen Irabor (34 RC) late Gen Attahiru (35 RC) and Air Chief Marshal Amao (35 RC ) as CAS, all 35 RC Major Generals and equivalent in Navy and NAF (ie all those senior to AZ Gambo as the most Junior Service Chief) were requested to “voluntarily retire .

This mass purge even got worse when after the untimely death of late Gen Attahiru (may his soul rest) Gen F Yahaya 37 RC was appointed COAS becoming the most junior among the Service Chiefs forcing 100+ Major Generals and equivalent in Navy and Air Force (few 35 RC many 36 RC ) to take an early shower.

In 2023 when PBAT appointed his service chiefs he jumped 38 RC (except Gen Gwabin CDS) and picked from 39 RC precipitating the mass retirement of 38RC with several years remaining in their career.

These recent appointments when confirmed are expected to trigger a similar wave involving Major Generals and equivalent in RC 39 and 40 . We do not know the exact number to be affected but in the Army alone some 48 of them. Note the arbitrarily agreed cut of point is the seniority of the most junior Service Chief.

2. Key Concepts: Succession and Supersession. Now in the field of military officers career management and progression, the military being a very hierarchical organization, the usual normal path is through SUCCESSION. But along the way through what I personally call “military snake and ladders” SUPERSESSION can also occur.

• Succession → orderly, merit-based advancement in line with seniority, competence, and established hierarchy.
• Supersession → bypassing seniority when a junior officer is appointed over more senior colleagues.
Succession is usually based on seniority + merit , it is predictable and stabilizing , it has positive effect on morale , it allows for smooth transition and is guoded by a succession plan.
On the other hand supersession is usually based on discretion/politics, it can have a destabilizing effect, it often (not always) has negative effects on morale , it often leads to mass retirement , it is very sensitive and requires careful management.

3. The Traditional Nigerian Military Practice. In Nigeria’s armed forces, an unwritten but powerful norm says: “Your senior is your senior for life, and your junior is your junior for life.” This has long meant that once a junior is appointed above them, senior officers take personal or institutional decision to retire almost immediately — often even before formal instructions are issued. This mirrors a British-influenced seniority culture that has shaped Nigerian military command tradition for decades.

4. The Counter-Argument: Officers’ Right to Serve Out Their Tenure. In recent years, however, a growing number of officers and civilian observers have begun questioning this unwritten rule. Their argument is simple and legalistic:

• The officers signed to serve for 35 years, not “until a junior is appointed.”
• Supersession, while politically permissible, should not automatically compel their retirement.
• Officers should have the right to choose whether to remain in service or retire, so long as they remain professionally loyal to the chain of command.
• Voluntary retirement must be voluntary in fact, not just in name.
This view reflects an evolving professional culture and a push for institutional reforms that could modernize how supersession is managed in Nigeria.

5. International Comparisons How do Other Countries Militaries Handle this
In almost all democratic countries the President retains the powers to nominate and after confirmation by parliament appoint service chiefs. Most president will try not to cut too low to appoint a junior but when they do how is it handled?

In India, the by passed officers retire soon after in order tp preserve decorum.
In the US the superseded officer may decide to stay no compulsion to retire early.

In UK option to retire or stay and accept a ceremonial non command position in order to avoid awkward hierarchy.

In Pakistan it is immediate retirement due to a strong seniority culture.

In Egypt its is reassignment or retirement due to the strong political control that the Egyptian military has.

In France such officers are reassigned to NATO/EU roles outside the national military.

Key point:
Countries with strong seniority traditions (Nigeria, India, Pakistan, UK) see supersession trigger retirements. In merit-based systems (like the U.S.), officers can stay on, respecting the new chain of command.

The major difference with other countries is that while in other countries this affects only relatively few Generals , in Nigeria those affected could reach over 100.

6. Implications of Supersession in Nigeria
1. Mass Retirement of Senior Officers – sometimes involving 100+ generals.
2. Perceptions of Politicization – seen as presidential preference over merit.
3. Career Planning Uncertainty – mid-career officers view promotions as unpredictable.
4. Erosion of Seniority as a Stabilizing Factor – weakens institutional trust.
5. Talent Drain – loss of experienced generals and institutional memory.
6. Command Cohesion Challenges – quiet resentment may weaken unity of effort.
7. Potential Advantages
• Generational Renewal: Younger officers take command roles.
• Clearer alignment with the Commander-in-Chief’s strategic direction.
• Accelerated reforms when transition is well-managed.
But without transparent rules, these benefits can be overshadowed by morale loss and institutional distrust. Right now we do not have transparent rules of doing this. It is done haphazardly in fact we cannot say precisely who determines if such officers should go or should remain; sometimes you are told it is for the incoming Service Chief to decide (which I think is wrong him not being their employer should not have the powers to terminate their careers. It is not the Minister of Defence, it is not the president as often these two don’t even put mush eye on such matters. In fact I know of a case where a Service Chief on his won decided that Gen X should stay, Gen Y should go…. arbitrarily . Certainly, need for reforms and this issue has been discussed at the two Committees of Reform for the Nigerian military during PMB , committees in which I have had the honor of serving but no implementation.

8. Policy and Institutional Reform Recommendations. I will give my humble recommendations. To reduce negative impacts and respect officers’ rights while ensuring professional command:

• Codify clear unambiguous rules on supersession, promotion boards, and early retirement options. This is the work of NASS.
• Recognise the right of officers to choose whether to stay or retire after supersession, provided discipline and loyalty are maintained.
• For officers who choose to leave (military traditionalist puritans like me who believe My Junior is My Junior for life) calculate their remaining service life and pay them off.
• Create structured post-retirement pathways (e.g., advisory councils, defence diplomacy etc).
• Reinforce transparent selection criteria to reduce perceptions of favouritism.
• Clearly define tenure of Service Chiefs.
• Develop a talent management system balancing renewal with institutional continuity.
• Cap the number of generals to minimize collateral career casualties. This again is NASS responsibility.
In Summary
Supersession in military appointments is legal and common in many countries, but how it is managed determines its impact. Nigeria stands at a crossroads between old traditions and modern personnel management.
Respecting both institutional discipline and individual rights of service will be key to ensuring:
• Stronger morale,
• Reduced politicization,
• Preservation of experience, and
• A more predictable command environment.

Supersession-triggered early retirement of 100+ senior officers at once, as seen in Nigeria (e.g., after the appointment of Gen Yahaya in 2021), has very few historical parallels in world militaries and quite rare internationally. This is exceptional globally, especially for the Nigerian military of roughly 250,000–300,000 personnel.

In India such selective supersession is in a much smaller scale . The Appointment of Gen Bipin Rawat as COAS in 2016 over two more senior officers affected only senior generals immediately retired; others were unaffected. In Pakistan, the appointment of Gen Bajwa (2016), Musharraf (1998), others affected only 4–10 lieutenant generals. In UK, Supersession occurs occasionally, but mass early retirements of senior officers are rare. In Turkey 2016, China (2015-17) and Russia (early 1990s) large number of generals were indeed retired but it was in a different context: These involved purges or structural downsizing, not routine supersession. 100+ generals were affected in Turkey’s 2016 post-coup purge, but that was political and security-driven, not a traditional leadership change.

Key Point:
👉🏽 Nigeria is virtually alone among all world militaries in triggering 100+ retirements purely through routine supersession. In my research , no other military regularly retires 100+ generals simply because a junior was appointed.

THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM.
If we are retiring 100 generals at once or even 50 , something other world militaries do not do, then certainly there is something wrong with the system that needs fixing. In my humble opinion , with no military or security experience himself, with no FEC/Cabinet member with any military experience, President needs a seasoned Adviser on Military Affairs by whatever name to assist him in understanding these issues. The wastage is colossal . Similarly the National Assembly has a very big role in passing subsidiary legislations or amending the AFA and reviewing the HTACOS if these issues are to be resolved . There are also very germane recommendations in the reports of the two Committees set up under PMB for the Reform of the Armed Forces...Reports which are gathering dust. The Nigerian Military indeed the whole Nigerian Security Sector needs reform.

I end with the meaning of "Voluntary Retirement" means in Nigerian military language. There are two types:

1. An officer or soldier , on his own volition, puts in his paper "I want to go". This coincides with the dictionary meaning of VOLUNTARY .

But there is a second type Voluntary Retirement , which is at odds with the OXFORD dictionary meaning of VOLUNTARY . In this case, the officer let me say , is "ordered" to "voluntarily" write a letter asking for his retirement. If you still dont get it, it is a military order, meaning you either jump or we push you.

Court Orders Man to Pay DSS ₦5m for ‘Frivolous’ Fundamental Rights Suit, Says Claim Lacked Merit

The Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered one Sunday Dominic to pay the Department of State Services (DSS) the sum of ₦5 million as punitive costs for filing what it described as a frivolous and baseless lawsuit against the agency.

Dominic, in suit number FCT/HC/CV/3984/2024, had accused the DSS of violating his fundamental rights after being invited for questioning over alleged fraudulent activities. He claimed that the agency’s actions amounted to intimidation and sought ₦10 million in damages alongside a declaratory order against the DSS.

Delivering judgment, Justice A. Y. Shafa held that Dominic failed to prove any breach of his rights, noting that his allegations lacked credible evidence. After reviewing the submissions of both parties, the judge dismissed the case and awarded ₦5 million in costs against the plaintiff.

Reacting to the ruling, a senior legal practitioner commended the court’s stance, describing it as a strong affirmation of the powers of security agencies to perform their duties without undue interference.

The lawyer noted that the judgment serves as a warning against abusing the judicial process, stressing that if security operatives are prevented from inviting individuals for questioning, it would weaken the nation’s security and obstruct the enforcement of law and order.

A 28-year-old Commander of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that has been arrested for killing security agents as well as destroying private and government properties in the South East region of the country has revealed how his group went on killing spree in the regions.

The suspect, identified as Emeoyiri Uzorma Benjamin, alias Onye Army, was arrested by operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Led by DCP Abba Kyari over his involvement in the attacks and killing of security operatives and the destruction of government and private

“I also went to Lagos where I secured a job as a security guard with a company that deals in building materials. I did that job until 2017 when I relocated to my village where I engaged in carpentry jobs.

“While I was in the village one John, who is from my town met me and told me he knew I was trying to join the military but advised me to join IPOB in 2019 so I started attending IPOB meetings in Orlu Imo state every Sunday. We used to have the meetings in a building close to the Teaching Hospital.

“I attended the meeting until November 2020 when Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, formed the ESN and said he didn’t want any security agents in the South East and that all he wanted was just ESN operatives providing Security in the South East.

“I volunteered to join the ESN and I was trained with about 4000 other members in a camp close to the Niger Bridge in Delta State, but I don’t know the name of the village. I spent two weeks in that camp with several other people who came for ESN training from several parts of the country.

“Some people had been in the camp before I joined them but I spent just two weeks in the camp. Before I went to the camp however, I was at a Sabbath Church in Orlu owned by one Alewa Nnwachuku, in Okporo area of Orlu.

“While at the camp, we were given military training and our phones were taken from us. We were not talking to Nnamdi Kanu directly but we were receiving his instructions on Voice notes from the leaders of our camp. After our training we were given boots and uniforms and were asked to go back to our state commanders.

“My state commander was late Ikonso, who was in charge of Imo State before his death. We were not given any money, we returned to our commanders with just the uniforms and the boots. When we got back to Imo State I reported back to the Sabbath Church which served as one of our camps at that time.

“Then Nnamdi Kanu ordered that he didn’t want to see any police or military check point and Police Stations in the South East. The order was given through radio and and WhatsApp Voice notes and all the ESN State Commanders asked their fighters to comply with the orders.

“Nnamdi Kanu said we should dismantle all checkpoints and even kill the security agents manning the checkpoints and attack and burn Police Stations and Army Formations because he said they were killing Igbo people. I believed him and obeyed the order because I had taken an oath to obey Nnamdi Kanu, who is the supreme leader of IPOB.

“During our first attack, Ikonso brought two AK47 rifles while two of our members brought two locally made guns which we used to attack a police check point in Orlu where we killed a police officer.

“Two of our members were also killed but the police officers ran away abandoning their vehicle which we burnt and took away one of the police rifles. After the operation, we all returned to the Sabbath church owned by Alewa but the police came and attacked the place.

“We then relocated to a farm belonging to one of our members in Eele area of Awidemili, Anambra State. From there we attacked several other police stations and checkpoints.

“Then Ikonso, Engineer Mike and Temple organized the attack at the Owerri Prison and Imo State Police Command Headquarters, where several inmates were freed and more than 50 police rifles were carted away on the instruction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, because he said no body deserved to be in the prison

“We came with over 100 , hundred fighters, but on our way back to our base, some soldiers attacked us and many of our fighters were killed at Ukorji area of Imo State. We carried out other attacks on security formations in Imo and Anambra states before Ikonso was killed. I was in his residence on the night he was attacked by security agents. I fought with my own Ak47 rifle, but I abandoned it and escaped through the back gate when I expended all the bullets in the rifle.

“After the death of Ikonso we went and burnt the governor’s house and killed a security man in the house in retaliation. It was Engr Mike that led us. I was part of those that shot at the gate.

“We also burnt a house in Awomama, belonging to someone who was believed to have given the security agents information on Ikonso. Engr Mike then took us to his village in Awedemili where we attacked a house belonging to the Commisioner of Justice Imo state, The House of a Honorouble member state house of assembly, A house belonging to a Councillor and many others whom Engr Mike said were against our struggle and we killed 2 persons there.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu also directed us to bury Ikonso with 2,000 human heads but we have killed only 30 so far. I then relocated to Temple’s camp and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ordered us to attack Orlu Police Division and free our fighters who were arrested and detained there.

“We went in 10 vehicles, over 50 fighters and we had over 30 rifles with us. I was in a white sienna and late Dragon was in a red colored car, but before we got to the police station we did a shooting display that was circulated on the social media on the day we went to attack Orlu police station.

“The white and red cloths we tied on our bodies in the video were charms which we call local bullet proof and we prepared charms with the heads of 10 young girls.

“Before we proceeded to attack the Orlu Police Station, Temple and Mike brought the suggestion that we should get the girls we used for the charms and we got them here in Imo State. But before we got to the Orlu police station, a police and Army armored vehicles attacked us and killed 12 of our fighters and injured four.

JOASH AMUPITAN FROM CONFIRMATION AS CHAIRMAN OF THE INDEPENDENT NIGERIAN ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC) ON THE GROUNDS OF LIKELIHOOD OF BIAS, IMPARTIALITY AND CONFLICT OF INTERESTS (IN VIOLATION OF SECTION 5 OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT BUREAU AND TRIBUNAL ACT, 1991 AND SECTION 19 OF THE INDEPENDENT CORRUPT PRACTICES AND RELATED OFFENCES ACT, 2003) CONSIDERING HIS PREVIOUS ENGAGEMENT AS LEAD COUNSEL FOR THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) DURING THE 2023 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION PETITION AT THE SUPREME COURT.

By way of introduction, Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners-ALDRAP is a professional Association of over 1,000 Lawyers who are both staff and consultants of the National Assembly and other legislatures within and outside Nigeria.

Our paramount goal is to promote professionalism in the enactment of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Our methods include public legal education programmes, and public interest litigation.

The ultimate objective is to ensure that both officials and institutions of government comply with the provisions of both the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and other legislation.

In September 2017 we received formal accreditation as a provider of continuing legal education programmes for the over 200,000 Nigerian lawyers, said accreditation was issued by the Nigerian Bar Association-NBA's Institute of Continuing Legal Education.

We write to notify the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that any letter from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria seeking confirmation of Professor JOASH AMUPITAN as the Chairman of INEC, ought to be responded to with immediate effect stating that said Prof. JOASH AMUPITAN does not meet the qualifications in the first instance.

The letter of response to the said letter of nomination should be dispatched with immediate effect without taking the next step of referring the said letter to your respected Committee on Electoral Matters.

The reason is because Prof. JOASH AMUPITAN as a former Legal Counsel to the All Progressives Congress-APC at the 2023 Presidential Electoral Petition at the Supreme Court of Nigeria is automatically disqualified from holding the position of Chairman of INEC.

The reasons are as listed below:

1. Previous Precedent of Senate's disqualification of INEC Nominees such as Lauretta Onochie in the year 2021 due to their affiliation to the All Progressives Congress-APC to be disqualified from confirmation by your respected Committee. 2. Professor Joash Amiputan's confirmation would be a violation of Section 5 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, 1991, which states as follows: "A public officer shall not put himself in a position where his personal interest conflicts with his duties and responsibilities." Having previously served as a lead legal counsel to the APC, Prof. Joash Amiputan cannot perform the duties of Chairman of INEC which is a position that requires utmost impartiality as the chief electoral umpire, when called upon to arbitrate or oversee conduct of elections between the APC and other political parties, his sympathies would likely be towards the APC;
3. Confirm of Prof. Joash Amiputan would be evidence that he is using his previous position as lead Legal Counsel to the APC to benefit himself and confer advantage upon himself. This is a violation of Section 19 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission Act, 2003; and
4. There are over 200,000 lawyers in Nigeria, if the President and the National Council of State has made the decision that the next Chairman of INEC ought to be selected from the legal profession, then there are not less than 100,000 Nigerian lawyers who are not registered members of any political party or previous acted as legal counsel to any political parties in Nigeria. His Excellency President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can select from this category of lawyers to avoid the appearance of bias.

TAKE NOTICE THAT IN THE EVENT THAT THE SENATE OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA GOES AGEAD TO UNDERTAKE CONFIRMATION OF THE SAID PROF. JOASH AMUPITAN, OUR ASSOCIATION-ALDRAP SHALL BE LEFT WITH NO OTHER OPTION THAN TO INSTITUTE A LAWSUIT TO COMPEL THE SENATE TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF IMPARTIALITY IN THE CONFIRMATION OF A CHAIRMAN OF INEC.

BREAKING: Drama in Abuja Court as Rev. Fr. Mbaka Storms Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial, Demands to Take Him Home

There was high drama today at the Federal High Court in Abuja when popular cleric, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, made a surprise appearance during the trial of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

According to eyewitnesses, Fr. Mbaka walked into the courtroom dressed fully in his priestly robe and declared that he had come to “take Nnamdi Kanu home”, insisting that “enough is enough” with the continued injustice against him.

BREAKING: Tinubu approves Establishment of Forest Guards of Nigeria

----Directs NSA to commence immediate Recruitment of Personnel

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of forest guards to take charge of 1,129 forests to combat terrorists and bandits, directing the NSA to oversee full implementation, starting with the recruitment of the guards.

This was made known on Wednesday by Sunday Dare, the special adviser to president Tinubu on media and public communication on his official X account.

“The President directed that the forest guards be well-trained and armed to carry out their primary duty of flushing out terrorists and other criminals hiding in the forests for illegal activities. The recruitment is a collaborative security effort between the federal and state governments.

“The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Ministry of Environment have been tasked with overseeing and ensuring the full implementation of the initiative
“Thousands of young Nigerians are expected to be employed as personnel of the newly established outfit.

President Tinubu had earlier warned terrorists that his administration “would not surrender an inch of the country’s territory to terrorists, bandits, and other criminal gangs operating inside the forests.”

He vowed that Nigeria “would take back its forests.”

What is happening at the Dangote Refinery is beyond the ordinary, it is beyond unionism as pointed out. First it was NNPC, then NLC, followed by NUPENG and now PENGASSAN. At last, we are getting closer to unveiling the real masquerade.

NNPC fought this enterprise tooth and nail over pricing, currency of crude purchase, distribution, pump pricing, etc. All these aggregated issues are just because Dangote has shown that things can work in this country, refineries can work in this country and NNPC cannot fix our 3 refineries in more than 30 years after swallowing trillions which EFCC is trying so hard to recover with Mele Kyari, the immediate past MD, as the principal suspect. After the presidential intervention somehow the NNPC hawks sheathed their swords momentarily but changed their tactics and Kyari lost his job eventually. At some point, they forced Dangote to import his crude oil from outside the country and in dollars which makes the pump price high because he imports in dollars until the Federal Government directed that NNPC should accept naira as the currency of purchase of crude from Dangote.

The Nigeria Labour Congress were the next undertakers. Dangote Refinery recruited some security guards from Katsina State. It is common knowledge that people from the North are known for their patience, resilience and resistance to fatigue as security guards (informally) which earns them the derogatory name “Musa” or “Aboki” by our country people from the South. Suddenly, on arrival in Lagos, the state NLC raised an alarm that Dangote Refinery was recruiting people from the North to take over their jobs in Lagos State. Later they said Dangote was importing bandits from the North into Lagos State to protect his refinery, unknown to them the Nigerian Police, the DSS, the NSCDC all were aware of the recruitment of these security guards and they were all profiled and screened.
Meanwhile, in Gombe State in Ashaka Cement, the majority of senior and middle-class workers are from the South West but the people of Funakaye or Gombe State NLC did not complain as the owners and majority shareholders are from the South West.

Next, NUPENG came calling over unionism and threatening Dangote Refinery with industrial action. Again the Federal Government intervention through the Federal Ministry of Labour did not yield results and the DSS as usual took over the matter and brokered a fragile truce. NUPENG then accused Dangote of breaching the peace process.

Suddenly the big brother was recruited as the obstacles being assembled against a peaceful business flow of a private enterprise continued to grow. Dangote, who is working also in the interest of Nigerians by occasionally reviewing pump price for Nigerian consumers as factors of production permit, faced a new challenge. PENGASSAN emerged. They are now the newest undertakers.

Femi Otedola, Dangote’s friend and the owner of Forte Oil (formerly African Petroleum), has spoken about how about 2 trillion was siphoned from our depots through a coordinated collaboration with the unions in the sector and other stakeholders. Till now no one has come out to contradict Otedola.

Another issue according to Dangote is that these unions collect 50,000 naira per every truck that loads product from the depots. According to Dangote, this ultimately is transferred to the eventual pump price at filling stations on Nigerians. This is wicked. Imagine 2000 trucks in a month?

NUPENG and PENGASSAN unions are the prime suspects in the destruction, corruption, mismanagement and any prejudice and economic theory failure in the oil industry in Nigeria. Imagine they never over the years protested or raised alarm or concern over the state of our refineries but suddenly they are now recruited by domestic and international forces to destroy a private enterprise that is the biggest in the world.

Dangote has taken the bold decision to sack over 900 local staff and members of PENGASSAN. Let PENGASSAN go and find jobs for them elsewhere. I cannot marry a wife, pay her bride price, bring her to my house then someone wants to come and enjoy her with me. It is not possible. PENGASSAN and NUPENG should go and find food for the families of those sacked or go and fix the public refineries and give their members jobs.

I understand that some international conspirators are sponsoring these industrial problems against Dangote Refinery as most African countries now buy their petroleum products from Dangote Refinery in Nigeria, so the only way is to destabilise the refinery. Forces of evil both offshore and onshore are out to cripple Dangote Refinery but by the grace of God, success will not be achieved.

I think any Refinery worker that is not happy at Dangote Refinery and needs the Union to help him, should seek employment somewhere else, or take Dangote to court.
