8 weeks should be enough for both to decide what to do moving forward. If things go bad after 25 weeks - a reasonable person would at least support a woman till she's given birth.

I also agree with you that it's better to let go if it's a pregnancy that has the possibility of taking the life of the expectant mother. This is the crux of the matter. For me it's unacceptable for people to abort a baby at 25 weeks...no way anyone can convince me that isn't murder.
