Four Chibok school girls were among newly matriculated students at the American University Nigeria (AUN), Yola. The girls were among the 24 Chibok school girls that escaped from Boko Haram in 2014. They were offered scholarship under a special preparatory program by the university management. Eighteen winners of the 67 competitive AUN scholarships for postgraduate programs were also among those who took part in the ceremony and other several intakes who were transferring from other universities in Ghana, Lebanon,Egypt, the United States and some European countries. The President of AUN, Margee Ensign, said the students should be rest assured that they will receive the kind of education that will make them become leaders in their chosen fields.“This kind of education will train you to look at problems from varying perspectives”, he said. Ensign reminded them that they were being trained to be the leaders of the continent who, upon graduation, will be ready to solve the challenges that confront them, their community, their country, and their continent. She said: “All universities identify new problems, come up with new ideas. They discover new truths and some change society. At AUN, Africa’s first Development University, this is what we are trying to accomplish.“We not only provide you with a different sort of education, we provide you with the intellectual tools to become the future leaders of Africa.” http://www.educationentry.com/2016/09/4-chibok-girls-who-escaped-from-boko.html

The management of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko in Benue state today shut down the school indefinitely following a violent protest by some students. According to eyewitnesses, there was tension in the school yesterday after the school management disallowed some students who had paid their school fees but had not collected their school receipts to write their exams which started yesterday August 23rd. The appeal by the students did not move the management who were adamant as they had given the students enough time to do all the necessary registration before the commencement of their semester examination. Out of frustration, some of the students took laws into their hands by breaking some of the school properties. The policemen that were invited to maintain law and order were attacked by the irate students. http://www.educationentry.com/2016/08/fidei-polytechnic-gboko-benue-state.html

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has put on hold admissions into the law programme of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Julius Okojie, NUC’s Executive Secretary has, said. [image_0] Mr. Okojie said on Thursday that the moratorium would be in place pending the resolution of issues with the Council on Legal Education (CLE).The CLE has persistently disallowed NOUN’s law graduates from being admitted into the Nigerian Law School. The council has argued that the teaching and study of law was clinical and cannot be done by correspondence. “This matter is being addressed because it is between us, CLE and the university.“What we have done in the interim is stop new intake into that programme so that they do not have a backlog; we are addressing the issue. http://www.educationentry.com/2016/07/nuc-put-on-hold-admissions-into-law.html |
The Kogi State University has been for about three months as a result of strike.
