The people of Oyo State, Nigeria and indeed the whole world will recall the highly condemnable events of Monday 6th June 2016 which witnessed violence and wanton destruction of government property and those of individuals and corporate bodies by students and teachers of some schools in Oyo State.
This violent activity threatened the peace and security of the state and endangered the lives of the students who participated in this breach of peace and affront on constituted authority.
Consequently, the Oyo State Government was constrained to shut down public schools throughout the State to safeguard the lives of the students and protect the lives and property of the citizenry; a decision that was taken in the line of its primary duty of ensuring peace and safety in the state.

Following several representations by the Parents Teachers Association, Community Leaders, Religious leaders, Traditional Rulers, Prominent and well meaning Nigerians at home and abroad, the Oyo State Government has decided to reopen public schools in the State with effect from Monday 11th July 2016.
However, the seventeen schools that participated in the violent demonstration are excluded from Government’s reopen order.

The Affected schools are:

-Ansarudeen Secondary School, Liberty Road Ibadan
-Ansarudeen High School, Liberty Road, Ibadan, Ibadan
-Grammar School, Senior and Junior,Molete, Ibadan
-Olubi Memorial Grammar SchooL, Molete, Ibadan,
-St Luke Grammar School, Senior and Junior, Molete, Ibadan
-St Luke College, Molete, Ibadan
-Yejide Girls Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan
-Methodist Grammar School, Senior and Junior Bodija, Ibadan
-Methodist Secondary School, Bodija,(Favos) Ibadan
-Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun, Idi ape, Ibadan
-Ikolaba Grammar School, Agodi, -Ibadan
-Ikolaba Secondary School, Agodi, Ibadan
-Ikolaba High School, Agodi, Ibadan
-Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan
-Okebadan High School, Oluyoro, Ibadan
-Ibadan Boys High School, Okebola, Ibadan

The affected schools will remain shut until the principals and the management of the schools submit an undertaking to the government that the students under their care will not engage in nor be used for violent acts and that their safety will be guaranteed.

Considering the need for strong character moulding and to emphasize the importance of good conduct and acceptable behaviour for the leaders of tomorrow, the students must tender a written apology to the government through the school management.

The Government of Oyo State wishes to reiterate its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of lives and property within the state.

The 21st convocation service held at the main auditorium today 24th June, 2016. Some of the dignitaries at the event were the executive Governor of Ekiti State, Gov Peter Ayodele Fayose, represented by his deputy, Prof. Olusola Eleka, his royal majesty, Oba Adegoke Olu Adeyemi, the Alara of Aramoko ekiti, the school vice Chancellor himself and other important people.


At the course of the event, Oba Adegoke was confirmed the Chancellor of the institution and the VC pledged his support to him. The Chancellor himself swear to uphold and preserve the legacy and laws of the institution.

Also in the remarks of the VC, he made it known that EKSU is the only most favoured by African Union, he also stated that there are ongoing renovation of of more than 38 lecture theaters and construction of lecture halls and that there are about 43 research proposals worth more than 40 million and 30 million fund from the Nigerian institution for research.

He also stated that a student of education won gold medal in tennis match in Nigeria and will soon represent Nigeria in South Africa and so for EKSU has given her scholarship till she finishes her programme in the institution.

Various institutions also sent their good will messages, some of which are:Unijos, osun state University of Ibadan, West spring University Benin, Eboyi state University, Mikel Otedola University Epe, Otedola College of Education Oro, Kwara State College of education, Adeniran Ogunsanya University Ilorin, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education Oyo.

The VC later read his address and in his speech, he appreciated everyone for coming and made it known that the convocation is his first as a Vice Chancellor of the institution, he made the numbers of graduating students known as thus: 3058 full time students, 392 sandwiches, 10613 affiliated students, 689 diploma, 78 PhD, 366 masters, 137 professors, 118 postgraduate diploma.

He also stated that the school has a total number of 24 first class students but 2 emerge as the best students, one from engineering and the other from management sciences, 573 second class upper, 1647 second class lower, 747 third class and 67 pass.

He also stated that the school is working on a bread production and sachet water production and by latest by next year, people would see the production of it in the school premises and outside the school, and as well the school block industry would be the one to be used for whatever construction the school would do.

He also noted that the school has constructed hostel of 20000 capacity to reduce the housing problems and this rooms would be occupied by the 100 levels and finalists from few months to come. He also stated the completion of the library with well equipped ICT access, and also the school is about to have a bookshop and musical equipments with the band.

Later the graduants were called according to their facultiesand were confirmed bachelors of their respective faculties by their various deans of faculties.To the presentation of prizes, various prizes were distributed to different students by various personnel, and it happens that some students got more than one presents.

At the end of everything the lady that was confirmed as thebest student Olalere Hellen from management sciences was called to deliver the benedictory address on behalf of the other graduating students.

A Chinese university teacher shocked crowds of people when she put on a white wedding dressed and proposed to one of her students. The counsellor, who fell in love with the student who is 10 years younger, asked for her boyfriend's hand in marriage outside the boys’ dormitory of the Hunan University of Arts and Science.

The scene drew large crowds as thestudent, surnamed Sun, was asked to become the husband of the university staff member. The teacher, surnamed Hu, is said to have been in a relationship with the unnamed student, in his fourth year at university, for a number of months, after the two met in a class.

She is said to be divorced and 10 years older than her new fiancé, who graduates in a few weeks’ time. Students at the university wished the pair well and posted pictures on social media platforms.

The Lagos State Government has commenced an internship scheme for final year students of tertiary institutions across the State tagged ‘Ready, Set, Work,’ an initiative aimed at equipping fresh graduates with necessary skills to become job creators rather than job seekers.

The scheme, which is being anchored by the State’s Ministry of Education, commenced on June 11, 2016 with the training of over 1,500 students on basic digital skills.

The scheme is an intervention of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, aimed at providing Entrepreneurship and Employability training skills for final year students in Lagos State tertiary institutions.

Over 2,000 students filled the application form for the programme, out of which 500 were selected to participate in the pilot edition.

Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, in a statement on Tuesday disclosed that on the first day of the programme, students of Lagos State University,(LASU), Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH),and Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) gathered at the Main Auditorium of the Lagos State University, Ojo, to register fora digital training session by Google on some basic digital skills.

He added that the pilot scheme of the internship training would run for 13 consecutive Saturdays between June and September, commencing with a general module on soft skills, and followed by two specialized tracks in employability or entrepreneurship.
According to him, top performing students in the employability track will be placed on 6-month internship positions at partner organizations, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, SystemSpecs, Guaranty Trust Bank, First City Monument Bank, and Access Bank; while students in the entrepreneurship track with viable business models will have the opportunity to pitch to a panel of investors.

He said Seed Funding would also be made available to students with the best business ideas through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and other funding agencies.

Prosper died around 2:00am on Sunday night. According to our sources, he reportedly drank ‘Sniper’ after sending her girlfriend a text message saying that by this morning he should have been dead.

“Around 12:23am, we started hearing noise from him snoring heavily. At first we thought it was normal until it got unbearable. So we had to enter his room and found him lying on the floor. Then we started praying, after which we made arrangements for him to be taken to the hospital. Before then, we had already forced palm oil down his throat. So on getting to the nurse, she confirmed him dead. No be today dem begin dey get wahala. He usually complain that the girlfriend is giving her tough time. In fact, he used to cook and take to the girls lodge. He frequents it. He had earlier called the girlfriends bestfriend and asked her to take good care of his girlfriend for him. As at press time, Prosper is still lying on the floor of his room in the company of his elder brother who is a medical doctor. The Police have not arrived despite the fact that the lodge mates called that night. Prosper is a 300 level Business Administration student and resides in Swagger Lodge Achala.

Every student at one point of their education will experience stress in the university. Getting up in the morning can be difficult knowing the day is going to be stressful. Tom (not real name), in his days in college was like a battle. He said "My happiest moments were weekends. On Sunday nights, tension begin to set in." Just like tom, many other students do have similar issue. This is because of stress at school.

There are reasons why student experience stress in the university. Let us examine some of the potential causes of school stress.

Stress induced by teachers

It is the desire of every good teacher that every of his student do well in his subject. Hence they give assignments upon assignments, this makes the student to be occupied with academy work. Also, students want to gain the approval of their lecturers so they go beyond all odds just to have good grades. Sleepless nights studying is very common among the university students. Lack of sleep increases stress.

Stress induced by peer

Been in the university, you have your freedom. Parental restrictions are limited, so many students live their lives carefree. Sex, dating and party is often the result of this independence. For many students who are from good homes, the pressure to join other students in these acts is extremely high. No one want to be seen as the odd one. Christine (not real name) said "I have so much stress from been pressured to date and engage in sex. Everyone was doing it and no one want to be ridicule."

Stress induced by expenses

As a student you need to meet up to certain financial obligations. The cost of education is rapidly increasing and as such some students had to work to pay for accommodation, textbooks, feeding and many more. Trying to achieve all of this can increase the stress at school.

How to Reduce Stress at School

Undoubtedly, you cant escape school stress but you can manage it. Consider the following steps

Identify the causal factor

Without identifying the cause of a problem, there can hardly be a solution. So too without identifying the specific causes of your stress at school, you may never be able to cope.

Never Procrastinate

So common among students - procrastination. They leave so many things unattended to. Whatever problem you leave today awaits you tomorrow along with other ones. So why not deal with it today and reduce the stress in tomorrow. Don't stock pile assignments, it will only increase your stress. Always begin reading on time, do not wait when examination is near. Do not try to become a perfectionist, it will increase your stress. Lastly, never try to follow the crowd.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Nigerian universities has said that all those students who passed the just concluded 2016/2017 (UTME) exams and got up to 180 which is the cut off mark for all universities in Nigeria, should go and start preparing for the forth coming POST UTME exams which is coming up in 2 month time and not to feel relaxed despite the suggestion made by the ministry of education.

There is no how all students that applied and pass this year JAMB will get into the university at once. It’s never possible for that to happen, because if it is like this, virtually all the Nigerian polytechnics would be empty because no student in Nigeria would ever wish to go to polytechnics to study rather everyone would like to go to the university.

Hence all students are advised to start preparing for POST UTME exams before it too late. Universities can conduct screening exercise, that simply means that there is still going to be an exam.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has directed immediate withdrawal of conditional charges introduced by the management of the Benue State University and urged the institution to revert to the old regime of charges.

He directed the management to sort out those who already paid the new charges amicably.Governor Ortom stated that he took the action following concerted appeals from major stakeholders in the university including prominent citizens, parents, students as well as the general populace.

He said as a democratically elected Governor he has a responsibility to be sensitive to the views of the people and their plight, hence the decision. The Governor assured that the state government would explore other avenuesto raise internally generated revenue to address the concerns that led the university to introduce the charges.

"We are also verifying the sources of income of the university and if we see that there is need for a review of the conditional charges we shall seek inputs from all major stakeholders including members of the State House of Assembly," Governor Ortom stressed.

He regretted the discomfort and pains which the development might have caused and commended the management of the institution and the students for not allowing the issue to degenerate further.Governor Ortom also expressed appreciation to all those who were concerned and took the time to raise the matter with him personally or at other appropriate fora.
