Just read the fraudsters posts and threads on NL. Something stands out- he seemed intelligent from the way he interacted with people on here. Perhaps he started out clean, hence why he was so bold to share his social media handles and e mail address, without thinking.

Obviously along the way, he met with some bad guys that influenced him negatively. Reason why he became a less frequent poster on NL.

Sports / Re: Quadri Retains Nigeria Open Title, Claims $7,000 by EduTechTainMent: 6:39am On Aug 12, 2019
Mrakeli:
Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri won the 2019 edition of the Nigeria Open Table Tennis Championship held in Lagos on Sunday.

Quadri, who won the competition back-to-back, said he overcame injury in the Round of 16 to emerge victorious.

He said this after defeating Austria’s Gardos Robert in a thrilling six contested sets, 15-13, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-1 (4-2).

Quadri is the second player to defend the title after Omar Assar of Egypt. He won the last edition of the tournament, which is in its sixth year.

By retaining the men’s Singles Nigeria Open title, Quadri won prize money of $7,000, while Gardos got $3,500.

Speaking on how he almost got eliminated, Quadri said, “I had an injury in the Round of 16, but I still had to keep playing. I really want to commend the medical team because they really did well. I kept playing because I am a fighter; it’s not over until it is over.”

He, however, commended his supporters, saying, “They have always supported me, they have always believed in me. I don’t know why. Only God can reward them more than I can.”

Meanwhile, Russia’s Mikhailova Polina claimed the women’s singles by defeating compatriot Noskova Yana 4-3 in the final.

This is what passion begets. He has got passion for his game and plays well irrespective of the lack lustre support he gets from most Nigerians. Guyman dey make cool bucks enjoying what he loves doing and is recognised in the game all over the world. What else can one ask for in a work? Table tennis is bae.

If you know, u know, those days I dey kantab my table tennis opponents. Lolz

Education / List Of Illegal Universities Closed Down By NUC- July 2019 by EduTechTainMent: 6:03pm On Jul 29, 2019
Recently I read a thread where an aggrieved NL'der complained about NYSC denying his sister her discharge certificate after serving her fatherland.

https://www.nairaland.com/5323208/nysc-discriminates-against-benin-republic

The foremost university education regulatory agency in Nigeria, the NUC recently released a list of about 60 institutions in the country considered as illegal. The NUC said the list isn't even exhaustive and warned the general public about patronising such institutions.

It warns that "Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognised for the purpose of NYSC, employment or further studies".

Good move, don't you think? Public awareness is key in the fight against the menace of these mushroom universities. It will save many from the financial and psychological trauma resulting from falling victims of this parasitic institutions.

Cc: Lalasticlala let people know. Ignorance is not an excuse. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Health / Re: Olawale Sulaiman: Biography Of Neurosurgeon Who Performs Free Surgery In Nigeria by EduTechTainMent: 1:45pm On Jul 25, 2019
Elemosho478:
Nigeria is a country full of enormous talents who operates both within and outside the country.

One of such people is Dr Olawale Sulaiman who is a professor of neurosurgery and spine surgery. He is also the system chairman of department of neurosurgery at Ochsner health system in New Orleans, Louisiana, in America. Sulaiman also serves as co-medical director of Ochsner Neuroscience Institute and medical director of the most comprehensive spine center in the region.

Dr Olawale Sulaiman is recognised as one of the best spine surgeons in the USA and is skilled in the application of minimally invasive techniques to treat spinal disorders. He also founded RNZ Global with the belief that: "There are tremendous number of brilliant Nigerians in diaspora who will significantly contrute to raising the standard of healthcare in Nigeria, based in the metro area of New Orleans who operates and renders his medical expertise in US and Nigeria."

The motivation according to him: " if I have been given all these opportunities in life and the least I can do is to give back to the society. " He stated further that: “My philosophy is whether you are Nigerian, Vietnamese, an American, everybody should have access to some degree of good quality healthcare.”

Dr Sulaiman's medical mission in Nigeria started in 2010 with his coming to the country every few months. Now, he shuttles between USA and Nigeria every month spending seven to ten days performing free surgery and saving lives.

To achieve his medical mission in his country of birth, Dr Sulaiman agreed with Ochsner to give up 15% of his salary so he can have a flexible schedule to travel to Nigeria. In the last five years, Sulaiman and his team have performed surgeries for over 500 patients.

They have also screened and provided preventative medicine to more than 5,000 people. Ochsner on the other hand has supported his efforts by sending supplies overseas with him. Sulaiman has developed programmes to train Nigerians back home so they can spread healthcare to those with no access.

Education / How To Tweak And Optimize The Use Of Mendeley Desktop by EduTechTainMent: 8:25am On Jul 19, 2019
Today I will be discussing another very important tweak in Mendeley- How to Optimize Storage Space, Ensure Fast Synchronization and Reduce Internet Bandwidth/Data Usage When Using Mendeley.

Mendeley is one of the widely used Reference Management Softwares by researchers, journalists, graduate and undergraduate students. Occassionally, we encounter some issues (not a bug in the software per se) when using Mendeley. Three of the commonly encountered issues are:

1. Synchronization of Mendeley contents takes too long to complete.

You may have noticed that your Mendeley Desktop application takes a long time to completely synchronize contents between your Mendeley web account and the Desktop application. This process of synchronization is very important and serves to ensure efficient and effective use of Mendeley. How is this so? Whenever you add references into your Mendeley account, you need to synchonize it. This can be done by either clicking on the synchronization button at the top of Mendeley Desktop application window or just simply pressing on the F5 key on your keyboard.

If you want contents imported into your Mendeley account via the online Mendeley web importer to appear in your Mendeley Desktop application, you definitely need to synchronize it. If you fail to do this, the imported references will not appear in your Desktop application, therefore, you will not be able to find and use those articles you added via the web importer. In essence, synchronization is key to the optimal functioning of Mendeley, as it helps to ensure seamless connection between the web importer and the Desktop application.

The speed at which Mendeley synchronizes depends on your internet speed as well as the contents of your Mendeley Desktop account. Where internet speeds are decent enough, it may still be slow if there are a lot of articles in Portable Document Format (PDF) attached to your Mendeley Desktop account. This is because all the PDF documents have to be uploaded and synchronized across all your devices, thereby impacting on the speed and duration of synchronization.

2. Rapid consumption of internet service providers allocated data

The articles in PDF imported above also impacts on the internet data consumption. Imagine you have numerous PDF articles imported into your Mendeley account, synchronizing this account will also upload those PDF documents into your Mendeley account, and this consumes internet bandwidth.

3. Inadequate Mendeley Storage Space

Mendeley offers a storage space of 2GB to its free personal and Institutional account users (excluding those previously on unlimited storage), although there are premium plans with higher storage spaces available at an extra cost. 1 In the past, the allocated storage space used to be 1GB. While the free account with 2GB storage space is more than adequate for most average users, if one isn't pragmatic, he will quickly run out of Mendeley free account storage space, and would need to upgrade to a premium account.

I don't envisage any of the above mentioned issues arising if you follow my simple tweak explained below:

To ensure fast synchronization of your Mendeley Desktop application, reduce internet bandwidth consumption, and optimize the use of your alloted 2GB storage space, all you need to do is disable uploading and synchronization of attached PDF files imported into Mendeley.

To achieve this, open your Mendeley Desktop application on your PC, click on "All Documents" under the "My Library" list. Click on "Edit Settings" tab and under "Synchronization Options", unselect the checkbox "Synchronize attached files". That's all.

You will agree with me that these tweak is invaluable, especially for Mendeley users in countries where internet speed is slow, internet data subscription fees are high and are constrained by funds to upgrade their free Mendeley account to a premium account. With this simple tweak, you can maximize the use of your Mendeley free account without a need for upgrading to a premium account .

Enjoy your free Mendeley account after using this tweak and do not forget to share and like this post, if you find it useful to you or your colleagues.

Education / What is Kopernio and How Does Kopernio Work? by EduTechTainMent: 9:54pm On Jul 18, 2019
Today I will be discussing about Kopernio. Kopernio is a browser plug-in powered by Web of Science. Clarivate Analytics is the home of Web of Science, EndNote and the Journal Impact Factor. Kopernio offers “fast, one-click access to millions of research papers” by integrating with Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar and about 20 000 other sites.

How Does Kopernio Work

Kopernio is a browser plug-in (supports Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera browsers) that works in the background to search open databases and University’s subscriptions for the best available version of research articles in Portable Document Formats (PDF).

It can be used with any email address and without affiliations to any University. However, to use some additional features being offered by Kopernio, you may need to state your university. If your University isn’t listed on Kopernio, you can still apply to Kopernio, so they can include your university in their list. Kopernio uses library subscriptions to automatically retrieve research articles by integrating with library proxies and library authentication systems.

Kopernio prioritizes the article retrieval process both in terms of where it searches for the articles and the type of articles it searches for. Research articles in PDF are retrieved majorly from both toll-access and Open Access publishers. It also searches for articles on institutional and other repositories, online databases, pre-print servers and also Google Scholar.

Kopernio preferentially retrieves the final published versions of articles from publisher sites, and for toll- access articles, it searches the institutional subscriptions for pre-print versions or author manuscripts saved in institutional repositories.

Advantages of using Kopernio

Kopernio offers seamless fast literature searches with one-click access to full articles in PDF, circumventing the abstract pages and the need for google searches, website redirects, VPNs, login forms and time wastage opening broken links.

Kopernio is a very handy tool to be used when one has institutional library subscriptions, helping to automatically deliver both OA and toll-access journal artilces with the click of a button.

It allows for faster literature search through navigating paywall and automatically retrieving PDF research articles in institutional library subscriptions, institutional repositories, pre-print servers.

It allows for seamless research away from the university library, both on and off campus.

PDF articles previously read with kopernio are automatically saved in your personal Kopernio Locker cloud account allowing for faster access to the previously read PDF articles and also sharing of such articles with colleagues.

Ability to save and export references in .RIS file formats compatible with most Reference Managers such as EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc

All university login credentials are saved locally and not transmitted to or saved on Kopernio servers, so you are save using Kopernio services
