Education / Why Sleep Is Important For Effective Learning by edvessuite: 10:37pm On May 18, 2023
Learning never stops, from the moment we’re born to the second we die, we are learning new things. As a child grows, so does the knowledge he or she possesses. This knowledge is accessed consciously or subconsciously and forms a part of the child’s persona. It includes formal education (from schools of different levels) to informal education ( from family and the immediate environment).

Children are put in classes at different ages or levels of development to match their growing abilities. Within this period, the child is exposed to a huge amount of information that, according to the syllabus of the institution, is important. Sometimes remembering this information proves a challenge. While tools such as mnemonics, rhymes, and the likes are employed by teachers and parents to help lessen the challenge, factors such as learning disabilities, learning style, etc. can slow or affect the process.

Another important factor that may impair learning is sleep.

Sleep is a period when the body’s conscious processes are suspended and the brain’s activity is at its lowest. This period lasting from minutes to hours is vital to body metabolism. It is also vital to the addition of new information to the brain, permanently storing the information and when needed recollection of the memory.

How is it necessary for effective learning? Learn more.

Education / What Is The Purpose Of A School Management System? by edvessuite: 11:36pm On May 17, 2023
Imagine a school where everything is done manually, where teachers have to keep attendance sheets, call out names and the students shout "Present ma or Present sir".

It's even worse during exam times when teachers would have to rack their brains to prepare exam scripts, go and invigilate exams, and come back tired but they would still have to mark scripts and all that. This would be very stressful for everyone and time-consuming too leaving little room for innovation or improvement.

Schools are the backbone of any society. They provide education and skills to young people, preparing them to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to their communities.

In Africa, education is highly valued, and parents make tremendous sacrifices to ensure their children attend school. However, managing a school, especially in the K-12 system, can be a daunting task, and this is where a school management system comes in.

Involving a school management system in African schools is bringing about an all-in-one solution that simplifies school management. It includes features like student records management, attendance tracking, grade tracking, parent communication, and many others. It is an essential tool that streamlines school management, allowing teachers and administrators to focus on what matters most, educating young people.

The benefits of a school management system are not limited to teachers, parents and students alone. School administrators can use the system to manage the school's resources, allocate funds effectively, and ensure that the school runs smoothly. The system can also be used to track the school's finances, making it easier to identify areas that need improvement and where the school is performing well.

Moreover, a school management system enhances transparency and accountability in schools. It provides administrators with real-time data on student attendance, performance, and behavior, enabling them to identify patterns and take corrective measures where necessary. It also provides parents with visibility into their child's academic progress, allowing them to support their children's learning at home.

In conclusion, a school management system is an indispensable tool for K-12 schools in Africa. It simplifies school management, enhances transparency and accountability, and improves the quality of education that students receive. As we continue to invest in education in Africa, we must ensure that our schools have the necessary tools to succeed. A school management system is one such tool that will go a long way in transforming education in Africa. Let us embrace it and give our young people the education they deserve.

Education / Why You Should Incorporate SEL Into Your School’s Curriculum by edvessuite: 6:16pm On May 11, 2023
In recent years, social and emotional learning (SEL) has gained recognition in the education sector worldwide. SEL is the process of acquiring and applying the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to manage emotions, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Social and emotional learning is critical in helping students in Africa to build resilience, self-awareness, and coping skills, enabling them to handle challenges more effectively. In conflict-affected regions, SEL can help students develop conflict resolution skills, respect for diversity, and empathy. By equipping students with these skills, education systems can foster a peaceful and inclusive society.

Schools can integrate SEL into their curriculum by adopting activities and lessons that focus on building SEL skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Teachers can use teaching strategies such as group discussions, role-playing, and reflective writing to reinforce SEL skills.

On the other hand, technology has also become a critical tool for education in Africa. The continent faces a shortage of qualified teachers as many are leaving for ‘greener pastures’ and limited resources, making it challenging to provide quality education to all students. LMS-Learning Management System and SMS-School Management System in Africa can help overcome these challenges by providing a platform for teachers to deliver personalised and interactive learning experiences to students.

Learning Management System in Africa allows teachers to create and manage online learning content to help students struggling with a subject or topic and provide feedback. SMS helps schools manage administrative tasks such as attendance tracking, fee payment, and keeping parents involved in their child’s education even while they are in school. These technologies help reduce the workload of teachers and administrators, allowing them to focus on delivering quality education.

In conclusion, by equipping students with SEL (social and emotional learning) skills and leveraging technology, education systems can overcome challenges and provide quality education to all students. While challenges remain, with proper investments and prioritisation, Africa can create a brighter future for its students.

Education / Audacious Solutions To Learning Crises by edvessuite: 10:22pm On May 10, 2023
An article in Teachmint described that the aim of education is not just knowledge but action.

In the last Edves catalyst event, both speakers and panelists made it succinctly clear that acquiring knowledge is not enough but being able to digest and demonstrate the knowledge gained is very important. When this is achieved, learning has taken place and education is also achieved.

Before now, we were faced with the challenge of the high number of children who are out of school and so the focus was on increasing the number of children enrolled with little attention paid to the quality of education they would receive.

The 2022 report by RISE cited that children ages 10- 12 who have completed basic education in developing countries still lack foundational skills such as reading and basic mathematics. This was attributed to the slow pace of learning.

To build an education system that is focused on learning, RISE recommended five actions to solve this learning crisis. They are: READ MORE

Education / The Magic Of Mnemonics by edvessuite: 5:35pm On May 05, 2023
In the past, the Greeks believed in the titan goddess Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory and remembrance. An embodiment of the power of recollection, she’s believed to have invented language and words. Orators and storytellers, poets and musicians, artists whose medium were words and sounds were all believed to be blessed of Mnemosyne.

Why? Before writing was invented, ancient Greece would master extremely long and complex stories of battles, romance, folklore and more and tell them flawlessly over generations. How? They developed a means to memories using visualization. Creating journeys in their head with the words so that images ‘stick’ to their mind, making forgetting impossible. This was called the Method of Loci.

The word “Mnemonics” was derived from her name and it means a system, derived to improve memory and assist in recollection. It comes in different forms. A word, an acronym, a song, a rhyme, an image, a phrase or a sentence designed to encode a large amount of information for easy memorizing.

It gives relatable alternatives that by association, produces the information you need.

Career / Have You Started Taking Audacious Steps Towards Achieving Your Goals? by edvessuite: 8:05pm On May 04, 2023
Nancy Pearcy said, “Competition is always a good thing. It forces us to do our best. A monopoly renders people complacent and satisfied with mediocrity.”

Even though ‘competition’ isn’t the subject matter here, it is important to always compete against oneself. How? By setting goals, then learning intentions and milestones towards achieving them. When we compete, we are sharpened and we become creative in solving problems. It takes courage and bravery to venture out of our comfort zone and decide not to be complacent.

In a world filled with challenges, it takes the audacity to develop solutions to meet the targets and milestones set within the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With Quality Education being an aspect of these goals, it is important for educators to take audacious steps, and keep improving every day.

Here are 2 Steps every educator should take to start being audacious about their goals :

First, celebrate your little wins. It’s a simple but effective way to be audacious. Many times, we tend to overlook the fact that we are actually progressing, instead we spend time brooding over the goals we are yet to achieve. Look back on your previous goals and celebrate every single step (tiny and big)you have taken, because you obviously are not where you were at the beginning of the year.

Education / Why You Should Engage Your Students In Collaborative Learning- A SHORT STORY by edvessuite: 12:05pm On Apr 06, 2023
Obinna kept thinking about the difficult math assignment he was given alongside his classmates. After school, he met Emeka and Rachael and asked them to work together to solve the mathematical problem.

Obinna convinced them that they would be able to solve the math problem when they combine their different strengths and work in collaboration. On agreeing to Obinna's suggestion, they agreed to meet up at Emeka's house after they had informed their parents where they would be.

At Emeka's place, they divided activities among themselves. Obinna reviewed their textbooks and notebooks for similar examples. Rachael searched online for similar problems. She found a video tutorial that explained a similar math problem. Emeka used his calculator to test different solutions.

As they worked together, each of them brought forward their strengths: Obinna was good at simplifying the problem into simple and small parts, Rachael was good at finding helpful online resources and Emeka had a talent for visualizing and thinking through the problem using different mathematical concepts.

After a few hours of discussing the problems and working together, they solved all three of the mathematical problems. Excited and relieved, both Rachael and Emeka thanked Obinna for suggesting that they work together. They agreed that they wouldn't have solved the problem if they had decided to do this alone.

Collaborative learning had helped them not only to solve the problem but also to learn from each other. They had all picked up new skills and techniques from their classmates. They also built a sense of community and friendship by working together.

As Obinna and Rachael packed their books to leave, Emeka suggested that they start a study group and they would routinely meet in each of their houses alternatively thrice a week. They all agreed to this and decided their next time and place to study together.

Technology had played an important role in their success, too. They used Rachael's laptops to search for resources online, collaborate on a shared document, and discuss with each other.

Even when they cannot meet at a physical venue, with their smartphone and a messaging app, they can study together, share resources, and have good discussions.

Collaborative learning and technology had proven to be a winning combination for these students. They had discovered that by working together, they could achieve more than they ever could on their own. They also realized the power of technology to enhance their learning and make it more effective and enjoyable.

From that day on, they continued to work together, both in person and online, using the latest technology to help them learn and grow. And they all knew that they had Obinna to thank for bringing them together and showing them the value of collaborative learning and technology.

Schools and teachers can deliberately ensure that the activities in their curriculums engage their students in group classwork and assignments. These would allow their students to collaborate and learn from each other within and outside the classroom.

Schools can easily and effortlessly implement and encourage this with a school and learning management platform like Edves Basic.

Education / What Should Schools With Limited Teachers Do? by edvessuite: 5:22pm On Mar 28, 2023
When teachers are not enough, it might affect the learning pace of students.

Although some hardworking educators might take up the job of 2–3 persons, this doesn’t mean they would give their 100% in everything, because even while they try, it’s in human nature to get tired.

When human beings get tired, their productivity level decreases drastically.

Instead of overworking a teacher which would eventually lead to burnout, there is a way school owners can achieve a learning balance for students.

Encourage Personalised Learning. With this learning style, each student’s academic need is prioritized and they get exposed to different thought processes which could have a profound impact on their education and worldview.

For Instance, when a student lags behind in the “Logarithm” topic of Mathematics and he gets to learn from a teacher in another part of the country or world who is an expert in this subject, his performance would improve.

When students in K-12 schools learn from this mixture of online and physical teachers, it also helps them feel more comfortable and confident in their own identities and have the mindset that the world doesn’t revolve around people from their ethnic or national group.

Exposure to different perspectives can also help to break down stereotypes and reduce prejudice.

The Advantage of Personalised learning apart from the exposure is that the student gets to learn in a fun way. There are engaging educational contents, such as Images, Games, Quizzes, and Videos to learn from.

The student gets to book personalised learning sessions with professional tutors to tackle difficult learning subject areas which could strengthen what the teacher had taught in class.

In conclusion, having diverse teachers can have a significant positive impact on students in K-12 schools. From providing role models to broadening perspectives to improving academic outcomes. School owners can implement this to help their students and the school’s reputation too.

Education / 3 Types Of Mindset Every Teacher And School Owner MUST Adopt To succeed by edvessuite: 8:18pm On Mar 23, 2023
As a teacher or school owner in African K-12 schools, it’s important to adopt the right mindset to ensure that you provide the best education possible to your students.

In this article, we will discuss the top 3 mindsets that you should adopt as a teacher or school owner in African K-12 schools.

The most important of the mindsets is the Growth Mindset. You can say everyone already knows this but the bitter truth is that not everyone practices it. With a growth mindset, you believe that no skill is unlearnable. It only requires you to be consistent and hard-working.

Cultivating a growth mindset in your students would only be possible when you create an environment that encourages experimentation and learning from failure. Meanwhile, this is very crucial in the African k-12 education system as it can inspire students to work hard and persevere through difficult challenges.

To develop this mindset, start by intentionally networking with other educators with different experiences from yours to learn at education conferences. Remember that in the 21st century, your network is your net worth. Then, expand your knowledge through competence-based learning, such as attending training and taking courses to help you upskill.

Another important mindset to develop is the Cultural Awareness Mindset.

In a continent as diverse as Africa, it’s vital for teachers and school owners to adopt a cultural awareness mindset. This means being aware of the different cultural backgrounds of your students and understanding how these backgrounds can impact their learning experience.

By adopting a cultural awareness mindset, you can create a more inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes mutual respect among students. It can also improve teacher-to-student relationships.

Exploring new learning strategies along with educators from other parts of Africa at grand events like Edves Catalyst would also equip you with the necessary knowledge to build this type of mindset.

Also, there is the Entrepreneurial Mindset.

By embracing a combination of the growth, cultural awareness, and entrepreneurial mindset, it becomes possible to create a more supportive and inclusive learning environment for students.

Education / What Is The Difference Between Education Technology And Technology In Education? by edvessuite: 10:16pm On Mar 22, 2023
While Education Technology (EdTech) and Technology in Education are two terms that are often used interchangeably to talk about the use of technology in the field of education, they actually refer to two different things.

On the one hand, Education Technology (EdTech) refers to the development and use of technology to improve teaching and automate learning processes. This includes the development of educational software, learning management systems, and other tools that are specifically designed to support education.

EdTech is focused on creating technology that is tailored to the needs of educators, teachers, parents and students, accounting and I.T Officers, School Nurses and every other stakeholder involved in education.

Technology in Education, on the other hand, refers to the use of technology only in the classroom to support teaching and learning. This can include the use of computers, tablets, and other devices to deliver educational content, as well as the use of online resources and tools to supplement traditional classroom instruction.

It is focused on using existing technology to improve education, rather than developing new technology specifically for education.

One of the key differences between EdTech and Technology in Education is the level of customization.

EdTech is designed specifically for education, which means that it can be tailored to meet the unique needs of educators and students.

While Technology in Education, often involves using off-the-shelf technology that may not be specifically designed for education. While this can be effective in some cases, it may not always meet the specific needs of educators and students.

Another important difference between EdTech and Technology in Education is the level of impact.

EdTech has the potential to fundamentally transform the way that education is delivered, by providing new tools and resources that can help educators to better engage students and support their learning.

Technology in Education, on the other hand, tends to have a more incremental impact, by providing additional resources and tools that can supplement traditional classroom instruction.

Despite these differences, both EdTech and Technology in Education have an important role to play in improving education.

By leveraging the power of technology, educators can better engage students, provide more personalised instruction, and help students to achieve their full potential. Whether it's through developing new educational software or using existing technology to support classroom instruction, technology has the potential to revolutionise education for generations to come.

Education / 3 Ways To Kill Creativity In Your Students FAST! by edvessuite: 4:26pm On Mar 21, 2023
It's critical to recognize the ways in which educators and school owners in African K-12 schools could unintentionally be stifling creativity in their students.

Although they may have the best intentions, their approaches to teaching and the overall classroom culture can have a significant impact on whether students are encouraged to think outside the box or forced to follow rigid guidelines.

-- One of the primary ways educators could kill creativity in African K-12 schools is by focusing on rote memorization.

This is the process of learning something by repetition, without necessarily understanding the meaning or context.

It is often used in subjects such as language learning, where students are made to memorise vocabulary lists or grammar rules without even understanding how to apply them in real-life situations.

This can lead to shallow learning and a lack of critical thinking skills in students. They are unable to imagine and they become less curious.

-- Another way to achieve this is by not providing Improvement Opportunities for teachers. Many educators are not trained in teaching creative thinking skills, which can further contribute to a lack of creativity in the classroom.

They also may not be familiar with methods to encourage divergent thinking, brainstorming, or other strategies that can help students think creatively.

To help them remain at that level, then do not introduce them to learning from a training like PhET Simulations.

-- In addition to that, killing creativity in students of African K-12 schools becomes easy when a school sticks to traditional management strategies: Wear teachers out by constantly making them write lesson notes on paper, wait until after results are out or P.T.A meetings before letting parents know how their children are coping academically and behaviour wise and many more!

It would really limit every stakeholder from knowing how to help the concerned student(s) in time and in turn limit their(students) potential.

But if these are not what a school is looking forward to, a proper way to start preventing all of these is by incorporating technology to automate the school's process.

This way, the burden on a teacher's shoulder is lifted. They now have time to focus on innovative ways to help students rather than thinking of how to first compile exam results manually.

With school management software, parents get involved in their children's day-to-day activities without being physically present or having access to the internet!

In conclusion, it's crucial for educators in African K-12 schools to acknowledge the importance of promoting creativity in their students. By avoiding stifling their imagination and providing a classroom environment that fosters creativity, educators can help their students to develop essential skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving.

With the right guidance and encouragement, African K-12 students can reach their full potential and become creative problem solvers who are ready to take on the challenges of the future.

Education / Can Educational Technology Replace Teachers In Africa? by edvessuite: 2:03pm On Mar 20, 2023
The question of whether or not educational technology can replace teachers is a complex one that requires careful consideration.

On one hand, it is glaring that technology has greatly improved in recent years, with advancements in artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other cutting-edge tools that have the potential to automate the way students learn.

In fact, educational technology has provided schools with tools such as school management software that can provide personalised experiences for schools and help in identifying individual student strengths and weaknesses. It is also true that technology provides access to educational resources that might not otherwise be available, particularly in remote or underprivileged areas.‍

However, it’s important to remember that technology is not the cure for all of education’s problems, especially in African K-12 Schools. While it can certainly reduce the use of traditional teaching methods, there are aspects of teaching that simply cannot be replicated by a machine.

Africa is viewed from different lenses by the rest of the world. Ranging from negative, sceptical to positive.

These mixed opinions stem from a variety of factors that have or are still dominating the African Society. It includes: low living standards, social unrest and poverty.

Despite all of these, Africans have constantly been raising the bar, leaving an impact that can be described as nothing less than phenomenal.

Education / 3 Ways To Help Students Regain The Motivation To Study. by edvessuite: 5:54pm On Mar 07, 2023
You have once been a secondary school or high school student, right?

As a former high school student in Africa, You must have faced one challenge or the other while trying to stay focused every single time, except you were a guru.

In present times, the pressure is even worse. Almost every high school student has a smartphone and there are so many things that could be a source of distraction, draining their motivation level.

Education is the key to a brighter future, yes, but many young students may not know how to express their difficulties in staying motivated.

Taking these into consideration, I would like to share some tips on how you can help them overcome the lack of motivation to study:

Firstly, it's important to help them set learning intentions. This is very different from setting goals. It is a smaller fragment of a goal. Are they preparing for an external examination soon? Don’t just tell them to aim to score all As.

Think about where they might be having learning difficulties. Is it with Mathematics? What topics in mathematics? How can we tackle each topic one after the other? Those are the type of questions you can ask yourself but ensure you carry the child or student along too.

Also, be a positive force or influence. Avoid criticising or belittling students for poor grades.

For parents, when you see their report cards and they fail a subject, that isn’t the right time to ask if the other person who had a better grade has “ two heads”.

Change this by letting the child understand that you believe in them and their abilities. Provide them with the support and encouragement they need to stay motivated. Sometimes a gentle push is all a child needs.

Another important tip is to create a study routine that works for them. This means finding the right time and medium to study, especially when they can concentrate with little or no distractions.

It is important to choose sustainable methods, for instance, if a child prefers to use their smartphone all day, watch Youtube, and so on. Why not introduce them to PL by edves? If your student is more drawn to pictures in books or other visuals, this is also great.

PL basically means Personalized Learning. Here, they can improve their knowledge in topics they are lagging, by learning from top schools around the world just by watching videos and whenever they feel like it. Learn more here: pl by edves

In conclusion, helping students stay motivated might be challenging but it is not impossible. By being intentional about helping them choose how to learn based on their preferences, we can empower them to overcome their difficulties and achieve academic success.

Education / Did You Know Being Audacious Could Improve Your Well-being? by edvessuite: 11:45am On Mar 03, 2023
When you hear the word "audacious," you may immediately think it’s just some motivational talk or something about recklessly behaving or impulsive decisions.

While this might not be entirely true,
what if we told you that being audacious could actually be good for your health?

Studies have shown that taking risks and being bold can have numerous benefits for our physical and mental well-being.

Here, we’ll explore only a few of the health benefits of being audacious and especially how you can incorporate more boldness into your teaching, parenting, and administration:

1 key benefit is: Reduced Stressed Levels

In case you do not know, stress has been discovered to be the ultimate link to almost any serious ailment, ranging from cardiac-related diseases to many other types that adults have.

If as a school teacher, you have to think of the stress of marking a lot of exam scripts manually, creating lesson notes, and marking attendance every week, then it’s time to take an audacious step to deal with that stress.

If as a parent you are always worried about your child’s grades and feel the reason for the not-so-good performance is because you’re not involved in their learning then it’s time to audaciously change that.

When a person takes risks and faces their fears, they are often forced to confront the uncomfortable feelings that accompany these situations. However, by doing so, they learn to manage stress and anxiety in a healthy way.

This can lead to a greater sense of control over emotions, a more relaxed state of mind, and a lesser risk of these ailments.

There are many other health benefits of being audacious: Improved Confidence and Self-Esteem, Enhanced Physical Health, and many more.

How can audacity be incorporated into one’s life then?

Here are some tips to get started:

Start small: Taking risks doesn't have to mean doing everything at once. Change is a process and it might take time, so tread gently.

Surround yourself with supportive people: Having a support system can help you feel more confident and encourage you to take risks.
That’s why we advise that you join over 5,000 Educators, Parents, and School Owners from all over Africa at one of the grandest events in Nigeria. Simply register here

Celebrate your successes: When you take a risk and succeed, celebrate your accomplishment! This can boost your confidence and motivate you to take on even bigger challenges.

Above all, being audacious can help to improve both physical and mental well-being while enhancing creativity and innovation level for educators.

Education / How Can Special Students In K-12 Schools Be Empowered? by edvessuite: 11:13am On Mar 02, 2023
As an educator, it is your responsibility to ensure that every student in your care receives the support they need to succeed. This is particularly true for students with special needs or disabilities.

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for a solution to help K-12 schools properly encourage these students so they can be the best version of themselves.

With the advent of school management software, educators have been able to heave a sigh of relief on how to better support these students.

School management software is a tool that helps educators to better track and manage students' performance, communicate with parents, and collaborate with teachers among many other functions. When used effectively, this software can be a game-changer for students with special needs.

One of the main benefits of using school management software is that it allows educators to track and analyse student performance data more effectively. For example, if a student with a learning disability is struggling in a particular subject or topic, their teacher can use the software to identify patterns in their performance and adjust their teaching methods accordingly. This can help to ensure that the student receives the individualised support they need to succeed.

Another key benefit here is that it can facilitate communication between educators, parents, and other professionals involved in a student's care. This means that, if a student is receiving support from a speech therapist, their progress in the classroom can be tracked by the school teacher, sent to parents through embedded SMS, Emails, or even the parents portal on the software and they in turn would update the therapist. This ensures that everyone involved in the student's care is working together towards a common goal.

In addition to these benefits, school management software can also help to improve the overall efficiency of school operations. School owners don't have to be physically present in their school before knowing how many students were present in a day, for instance.

While the implementation process might require a significant investment of time, resources and educators would need to be trained on how to use the software effectively, the potential benefits, however, for students with special needs make it well worth the effort.

In conclusion, it is a powerful tool that can help K-12 schools to better support students with special needs or disabilities. Therefore, educators should embrace new technologies like this to provide the best possible care for students.

Education / School Growth Hacks For African K-12 Schools In 2023 by edvessuite: 8:25pm On Feb 27, 2023
This article provides an in-depth insight into the key strategies and tactics that African K-12 schools can use to improve their growth and effectiveness. Here, we will cover topics such as curriculum development, teacher training programs, technology integration, leadership development, and more. By exploring these topics in detail, we hope to provide African school administrators with the tools they need to create a successful learning environment for their students and teachers.

Curriculum Development:
The curriculum is the cornerstone of any successful K-12 school. African K-12 schools need to develop a rigorous and relevant curriculum for their students' needs. For this to be effective, schools must work closely with teachers and parents to ensure that it meets the educational standards while also providing students with the skills they need for success after graduation.

Teacher Training Programs:
Teachers play an essential role in any K-12 school's success. Hence, the reason they should be given adequate training and support to ensure success. In fact, according to a meta-analysis of 35 studies conducted by the National Staff Development Council, students in classrooms with teachers who had participated in high-quality professional development outperformed their counterparts. On average, student achievement increased by 21% points.

Teacher training programs should include topics such as classroom management, the use of simulations, other instructional methods, and assessment strategies. They need these professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices in education.

Technology Integration:
In recent years, technology has become a big factor in education. So far it has helped to reduce the burden on the shoulders of teachers, and school administrators. It has even helped school nurses and officials improve healthcare services as they are able to see students' blood groups, and allergies without flipping through dusty pages in a file. African K-12 schools should make sure they are taking advantage of the latest technologies to better engage their students, save money and time.

This includes using digital tools such as Interactive Whiteboards, Video Conferencing tools, and School Management Software. With EDVES BASIC, schools can have all the aforementioned and more in one place.
Additionally, schools should make sure they have an effective IT infrastructure in place so that all of these technologies can be used effectively by both teachers and students alike.‍

Parent Engagement:
Involving parents in their children's education is essential for student success in any learning environment, including in African K-12 schools. Therefore it is important that schools create opportunities for parents to get involved at all stages of their children's academics : from helping them develop good study habits at home with the lesson notes and timetable feature on the Parent Portal of EDVES BASIC, to monitoring their academic growth by sending them SMS and emails of their wards test and assignments results. Furthermore, parental engagement should not be limited to just academics. Providing extracurricular activities such as sports teams or clubs for parents can also help them be further involved in their child's educational journey while also having fun!

There are many ways African K-12 Schools can grow and improve over time. These are just a few of the key strategies that can help African K-12 Schools create a successful learning environment for their students now and in the future!

Education / How To Help Students Writing WAEC In 2023 by edvessuite: 12:05pm On Feb 23, 2023
Helping students prepare for an external examination is more than just paying or registering them for it.

Most schools go a long way to help get them ready through mock exams, and so on.

Although this strategy has been effective to an extent, the issue of failing the WAEC (West African Examination Council) examination is still one of the problems that has not been completely eradicated and this is a factor that has prevented many from producing top-notch students that can comfortably compete with others around the world.

While on the one hand, failing WAEC could be from the student, that is, it could stem from so many factors, a few of which are:

Lack of Motivation: At Edves, we believe no child is lazy. Instead, we believe that children are very delicate people. They require motivation to give their best efforts. While for some it is less, others might need more. Also, when they will be at home during periods like the election, if they are not able to practice on their own and get feedback immediately, they might not take it seriously.

Poor attendance: When a student is consistently absent from mathematics class for example, he or she may miss out on the tiny details that can’t exactly be written in a notebook that would help them practice well for their external exams.

Lack of adequate support from teachers and parents: Support could come in any form, it could be physical, financial (paying for tools to help them practice), and emotional. A blend of these is always the best to get them going.

On the other hand, whether as a teacher, parent, or stakeholder, everyone has a part to play to help our students and children perform excellently in their forthcoming examinations. Let’s help them stay motivated, monitor them, and give them all the support they would be needing.

At Edves, we know how important it is to your school’s reputation when students perform well and of course how proud you’ll be as a parent when your child makes good grades.

Putting all of these into consideration, we came up with a solution called PQ by Edves. With this, students get to practice for WAEC or JAMB on their smartphones or laptop, get their results immediately from experts and know areas where they need to improve. Join our waitlist here
