PoliticsRe: Gloria Okolie:IRT Collected N280k & Want 100k More To Free Her- Hawking Mum by efigreat: 1:24am On Aug 22, 2021
RuudVanNisteroy:
Mrs Virgina Okolie, the mother of 21-year-old Glory Okolie, arrested and detained by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, said her daughter’s detention has cost her means of livelihood.

Virgina, a 65-year-old widow, who sells yam, told City Round that her capital was part of N280,000 policemen allegedly collected from the family so far regarding the case.

IRT operatives in Imo State had reportedly apprehended Glory alongside a motorcyclist, Izuchukwu Okeke, on June 17 to track down a suspected member of the Eastern Security Network said to be her boyfriend.

She was allegedly turned into a ‘maid,’ washing clothes and cooking food at the IRT office in Owerri, before she was later moved to the unit’s headquarters in Abuja.

In the wake of outrage generated by her story which went viral, the IG, Usman Baba, reportedly ordered investigation into the alleged unlawful detention.

A rights activist and Director General, Behind Bars Initiative, Harrison Gwamnishu, who posted Glory’s unlawful detention on Facebook had said the police promised to release her on Friday (yesterday) after a committee set up by the IG had concluded the investigation.

But neither Glory nor Okeke was released on Friday.

Glory’s mother told our correspondent on the phone on Thursday that her daughter’s plight had impacted negatively on her (Virgina’s) health and paralysed her business.

She said, “I have been sick and weak because I can’t see my daughter. I have been going to the hospital to receive treatment. I am a widow and hawk fried yam.

“I have spent all the money I have just to make sure she comes out. Her father died a long time ago and I am the one taking care of her and her siblings. She did not commit any offence yet they are extorting money from us.”

Glory’s uncle, Christian Okolie, said the policemen had collected N280,000 in bribes so far and demanded additional N100,000 to free the young lady.

Christian, whom Glory lives with at Obor community, Umutanze, in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, said she went out that day after receiving a call from one Uzoma.

He said, “Glory was arrested on June 17, four days after she celebrated her birthday. Her phone rang and it showed a call from one Uzoma. She left and promised to return soon but she didn’t. We kept calling her but she said she was coming. The following day, we called her again and she kept saying she was coming; not knowing that the police were holding her captive.”

Christian said the family became more worried and feared she had been kidnapped when her mobile could no longer be reached on the third day.

He stated that they searched for Glory everywhere, including mortuaries, and later approached a senior officer at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Owerri, for help.

He recalled, “I went to the SCIID with a colonel. A senior officer we met there said the only way to find her is to track her phone. They collected N50,000 to track her phone. After a few days, I went back there and was told that her phone had been tracked to Tiger Base – IRT office in Owerri.

“I wanted to go there but the officer cautioned me. He said the place is dangerous. I returned home and told my family what happened. A week later, a resident of our community, Izuchukwu Okeke, who was missing, came back. He said he was arrested alongside Glory. He said he was carrying her on his motorcycle when policemen stopped them at gunpoint and led them into a vehicle.”

Christian said the policemen invited Okeke to their office to retrieve his seized motorcycle but rearrested and detained him for disclosing Glory’s whereabouts to the family.

He stated, “I went to Tiger Base several times to see Glory. Whenever I wanted to ask her what her offence was, the policemen would interrupt me. There was a day they wanted to detain me too. It was the military officer who went with me that stopped them. In one of my visits, I saw her washing clothes.

“The officer later told me that one of the policemen confided in him that Glory is a boyfriend of an ESN member and that they used her to arrest the suspect. Our question is why did they refuse to release her after arresting the suspect?”

Christian said while Glory was in IRT custody in Imo, a policeman called her mother and told her the lady was sick, allegedly demanding some money so she could be released.

He added, “The caller said they would release her to us and use another person to replace her in the cell. In the background, we heard him asking for handcuffs. He sent us an account number where we can send the money to. We first sent N30,000; then N200,000 and another N50,000, making N280,000.

“Afterwards, a woman at the IRT office told me that she would help Glory because she didn’t commit any offence. The woman asked us to pay N100,000 so that they would change Glory’s statement. It was on Monday, August 9, that we learnt she had been transferred to the IRT office in Abuja.”

A police officer, who is privy to the case, confided in our correspondent that Glory had not been released because the police were still gathering facts about the case. The officer was evasive about when the lady would be released, but simply said “the police will speak on the case at the right time.”

The Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, promised to find out details of the case and get back to our correspondent with comments. He had yet to do so as of press time.

Don't ask me stupid questions.
Before Nigeria's independence, the oil was already found. So it belongs to the Eastern region. Your greedy selves did not contribute anything to it, so whatever your leaders are telling you is just hogwash.
so much ignorance on oil.
Shell or Agip or Mobil did not collect money from Nigeria to drill her wells and to build the first refinery in port harcourt. they came to do business. North has hijacked oil and nnpc with style flounting FG, FG everywhere. this is federation run as a unit fraudulently.
corruption and short sight brought government to acquire oil assets of IOC but they could not manage it but stealling and spoiling.
American government does not own refineries or airlines. if you have money you can set up one but pay tax and employ Americans. US
unemployment rate is about 3 or 4 % that is almost everyone is doing something. unemployment relief is paid too.

Nigeria is blind, corrupt and greedy especially the crafty born to rule.

But the Lands Use Act 1978, gives the Governor the power to allocate no more than 400 Hectares @ once for grazing, so which law is President Buhari breaking? Your ignorance to the provisions of the law, is always your downfall.
the state law superceeds federal law if done without state agreeing.
are we colonised by a misconceived federal might.
thses impunity/action breeds secesion.
PoliticsRe: Ortom: Buhari Turning Nigeria To A Cow Republic by efigreat:
its like looking for crisis instead of peace. Or encouraging secesion or agitation. who benefits in chaos. The talibans.
1. in a federal system the federating units own everything Land & natural resources but contributes % for admin and central services.
Does Buhari undrstand this.?
our method of hijacking power is unjust and dishonest. there is no No bilataral agreement between states and the centre so far. it looks like a master to a servant. But state and group leaders should keep making their voices heard till sanity of old returns.

example California stste is very rich because of its tech and only shares her revenue with washington not by force but by neccesity.

different states have different laws but you stay in a union of independent states and support the centre. that is why US is very strong. no monopoly and dorminance is reduced.

After going through bbc hausa page on Facebook I realize that fight against terrorism might not end in the north, the same people that support religious extremists
we saw northerners praising the invasion of Afghanistan by taliban, supporting them in ecstasy,
Wit this I can tell you that taliban and terrorists group have a great ally in the north
for 2 centuries the purpose of armed jihad has not been forgotten. we have to walk, watch our backs use a long spoon when dinning.

if the priority is 'religion ' and money security to promote it. little wonder little dedire for education, better modern life, technology , free society or even freedom of choice is anathema.

Muslims see these news of extremity the sane way Christians see the pastors who feed members with bleach. We both know these things are not our religion. We denounce all forms of extremity including the hisbah people in kano who do things outside the prescription of Islam. We find news like this very embarrassing and it is unfortunate that we don not have control over everyone.
Its quite unfortunate that events like this prevent people from hearing and knowing the true message of Islam. The believe that God is one.
where is the Lord God of Elijah.
He will appear.

PoliticsRe: BREAKING: Atiku Laments Banditry, Insists On Restructuring by efigreat: 3:29pm On Aug 19, 2021
restructure is a deceptive word. just SAY "return nigeria" to the point before the military struck. SIMPLE. also allow for referendum for ethnic nationalities who want. naturally people will align and cooperated across borders.

or else nigeria will continue to deceive herself while other nations are moving forword.

even the British people were kind to buy Nigeria and pay cash to Unilever Sir Goldie to take parts of southern protectorate. and were kind to give us independence without a war.

why can't we be truthful and allow people to decide to go or we restart from where Queen Elizabeth left off.

note . the north enjoys one nigeria now till nothing is left to enjoy in the next 20 yrs. What core north wants is not really development but power and religion.
shows we think differently , so better do the needful.
PoliticsRe: What's The Future Of Southern Nigeria If The North Falls To Terrorists by efigreat:
body language in Nigeria : (1) repentant terrorists pampered.
(2) self determination is crime for SE SW but politcians move from party to party. Maradi has strong brotherhood ties .
(3) self defence criminalised and monopolised by govt actors.

conclusion: dictatorship or genocide or jihad scenairo should be prevented by a national conference of ethnic nationalities under UN International watch.
PoliticsRe: Edwin Clark: Using Southern Oil Money For Exploration In The North Is Fraudulent by efigreat: 8:25pm On Aug 17, 2021
PIB is a very corrupt bill. Better implement resource control which is is justified before God.
If we start giving % to the centre FG as tax, fight & stealling will be reduded at the centre
if anyone or nnpc thinks there is oil in the north he should borrow money from the bank to search for it. and pay % to CBN.
nnpc is profit less so far. To invest 30 % free money into it is robbing peter to pay paul. they should make a specfic business case and source for fund like any other company searching for oil. and show us the oil discovered by producing it to Forcados export SBM. if Shell, Mobil etc did not find oil in North since 1960 seismic searches, sorry it it will neverbe there. people are wasting huge money drilling up north. why did shell mobil not drill all this while. thry know.

delta , SE, people should decide what they like to contribute to the federation account or Nigeria will not be fair to the hosts. Donor Deltans, Imolites were not a conquered people so dont force a % on them.

we have to allow ethnic groups to start discussing their future and state what type of govt, economic strategy, constitution , natural resources control, they would adopt and peaceful external relations with other tribes.
This Unitary system or scam Federalization of majors should cease for indigenous rule and transition.

Nigeria should never be not by force but discussion. kingdoms existed independently before British came. we can organise our tribes peacefully. Akin to -1960 independent regional govts.

but watchout those resisting this. They have some greedy, wicked motive. mostly of jihadist mindset. Those who scattered many kingdoms 1800s by islamic conquest and those who are feeding fat from unitary system in 2021
Even Great Britain allowed some caliphates to continue and also payed for parts of south in pounds. And handed over in 1960.
They however fought fiercely Benin kingdom and Yoruba Lagos, Jaja of Opobo.

Nigeria need to restart our original political civilizations again after separating onto an ethnic map. Immigration should be to international standards. no area boys mentality involved. But diplomatic meeting at UN level.

Unitary system or scam Federalization should transit for indigenous rule respectively for over 50 + language groups.
