By McJohn Adjoto The Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) has been split into two, in order to take advantage of the emerging gas market. The two successor companies, both subsidiaries of the state hydrocarbon company NNPC, are known as Nigerian Gas Processing and Transmission Company (NGPTC) and Nigerian Gas Marketing Company (NGMC). The old NGC operated over 2,000km of gas pipelines all over the country and was responsible for (1), the ongoing looping (doubling of capacity) of the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System, (2) superintending the construction of the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline, as well as (3) work on investment decision regarding the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, for which bids for Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) are currently being evaluated. The NGPTC will be responsible, going forward, for these constructions, while the NGMC will be responsible for marketing the gas molecules. NNPC sources admit that the old NGC was not into gas processing and the new NGPTC does not currently process gas, despite its nomenclature, but it is hoping to get involved in the Central Processing Facilities earmarked in the Gas Master Plan. This is problematic, because the Ministry of Petroleum Resources is planning to do away with the planned Central Processing Facilities in the Gas Master Plan. Culled from africa oil and gas report |
Ghana’s oil output has been boosted with the start of production from the Tweneboa, Enyenra & Ntomme (TEN) project in August. The oilfield, which is expected to peak at about 80,000 bpd in 2018 has produced its first barrel, and is expected to maintain a steady flow of about 20,000 bpd in 2016. We believe this has increased Ghana’s average oil output to over 100,000 bpd in 2016, considering ongoing challenges at the Jubilee oil field, which is yet to resume 2015 peak level production of 115,000 bpd. Based on existing fields and field development plans Ghana crude oil output is estimated to be over 240,000 bpd by 2019. This could potentially make Ghana the fourth largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa by 2020, based on existing fields and planned field development in the top ten oil producing countries in the region. The TEN field, operated by Tullow Oil, is estimated to hold about 240 million barrels of oil and 60 million barrels of oil equivalent gas reserves. The full field development plan will involve the drilling of 24 wells in total, comprising water and gas injections wells and production wells. The current production is being undertaken from the first 10 wells of the 24 planned wells. The remaining wells will be drilled from 2017 to achieve peak output by October 2017 while gas output is expected to begin in 2018. The development of the TEN field was achieved on schedule and within the budget expected. This was achieved despite some disruption following Côte d’Ivoire’s dispute with Ghana over maritime borders, which would have affected operations on the TEN field. However, Ghana won the suit and was allowed to proceed with the TEN field. Furthermore, the development of the TEN project utilised a considerable level of local content in its development, affirming the potential of the Ghanaian oil field servicing segment. This could be potentially good training ground for future projects in Ghana such as the MTA fields to be developed by US Independent Kosmos Energy and partners, among others. |

Barely a week after 17 officers were dismissed for drug abuse, bribery and forgery, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has sacked 29 senior officers for engaging in corrupt practices. In a report by TheCable, the officers were dismissed after an investigation panel found them guilty of various offences that include corruption and theft. In a statement by Wale Adeniyi, on Thursday, October 20, 2016, the spokesman of the service said the actions taken on the officers was painstaking and in line with the public service rules. He said: “Twenty-nine senior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been dismissed for various acts of gross misconduct. The dismissed officers are among forty-four (44) senior officers who were punished for actions capable of compromising national economy and security.” Continuing, he said: “Ten other officers were retired from service, while the appointment of one was terminated. Four officers were given written warnings to be of better conduct while another four officers who were investigated and tried for some offences were exonerated.” Adeniyi also explained that some of the sacked officers include a deputy-comptroller; five – assistant-comptroller; seven – chief superintendent, and four – superintendent, among others. “All the officers were served with queries indicating offences committed, before they made appearances before the special investigation committee. The committee’s recommendation was discussed and approved by the customs management,” Adeniyi added. |
The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) have asked the judges arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) to excuse themselves from judicial functions. NBA President, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN) said this on Thursday at the valedictory session in honour of Justice Sotonye Denton West, Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal. Mahmoud said the judges should step aside while investigations are ongoing. He said: “It appears to the NBA that it is extremely important that the NJC takes very urgent steps to safeguard the public image and sanctity of the courts. “We therefore strongly recommend that, without prejudice to the innocence or otherwise of the judges involved in the ongoing investigations, they should be required to recuse themselves from further judicial functions or required to proceed on compulsory leave until their innocence is fully and completely established or until the conclusion of all judicial or disciplinary proceedings. “We believe this will be necessary in order to protect the sanctity and integrity of judicial processes that may involve the judges concerned and safeguard the public image of the institution.” He also said the NBA has setup a Task Force to investigate the allegations and come up with recommendations on how to clean up the judiciary. http://uncova.com/excuse-yourselves-from-judicial-functions-nba-tells-arrested-judges |

This is because of on going cult clash in the state" This piece has been in circulation via chat in calabar as of 6pm today. South Africa-based Fly Blue Crane, the first airline started by a black woman, is about to launch its first international flight less than a year after the airline’s September inauguration. The airline will begin flying May 13 between Cape Town and Windhoek. Fares will be around $103 one way. Until now, flights were offered internally in South Africa between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Kimberley and Bloemfontein. In 2015, Fly Blue Crane applied for rights to operate flights to Swaziland and Mozambique, according to FlightGlobal. Sizakele Mzimela is the co-founder, CEO and majority shareholder of Fly Blue Crane. A former CEO of South African Airways, Mzimela was the first woman named on the board of the International Air Transport Association in its 71-year history. She is a veteran and pioneer in African aviation with 20 years of experience in executive leadership roles In addition to being the former CEO of South African Airways and regional SA Express, she was chairwoman of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) and the Airlines Association of Africa (AASA). Her trajectory in aviation began with her first job as an analyst at SAA. After that, Mzimela kept getting promoted, managing multiple different divisions including the Americas, the Middle East and Africa. “The biggest joke is that I wasn’t able to stay in one position for 12 months,” Mzimela said in an interview with RunwaygirlNetwork. “I looked after alliances.” Among Mzimela’s many firsts was being SAA’s first black executive vice president, initially for global operations on the airport side, then for commercial sales. She left SAA to become head of SA Express, returned to SAA as CEO, then left to start her own airline. Her biggest achievement at SAA “I was one of the first CEOs to build a proper relationship with SAA’s pilot union and cabin crew. "We got everyone on the same page,” Mzimela said. She accomplished this, she said, by being honest and accessible. “The first thing I did was do road shows to introduce myself to the various parts of the business and say what things should be happening. “There were some workers who said it was the first time in history that they had ever seen the CEO. For me, I thought it was the thing you do. You show your face and let people know who you are and what you’re about before asking them what you need to do.” Advice to female aviators “You have to accept up front that your road will be more difficult than the pale white male sitting next to you,” Mzimela said. “You will have to always be better than them…they will only ignore you up to a point. People may not like your color or your agenda when they say they want the best person for the job. “You can stand up and say ‘I am the best person for the job’. Understand that we just have to work harder. It’s unfair, but you spend less time complaining and more time finding a way to move on and break through regardless of the difficulties. Be mentally prepared that climbing that mountain will be different. I’m prepared to climb to the top. It’s your job to say ‘Nothing will stop me. I’m going to make it,’ because it doesn’t look like, I’m sad to say, that things will change any time soon.” -

The Consulate-General’s office reopens after it was shutdown 55-years ago Fifty-five years ago, the Swiss government shutdown its embassy in Nigeria, however, a new Consulate-General’s Office has reopened in Lagos. The Vanguard reports that Switzerland’s Federal Counsellor and Head of Foreign Affairs, Mr Didier Burkhalter, before declaring the office officially opened on Tuesday, March 8, said that it was currently Switzerland’s second Consulate-General’s Office in Sub-Saharan Africa. “Switzerland is officially returning to the place where its long-standing friendship with Nigeria started 55 years ago: the exciting city of Lagos! “Ever since the opening of our embassy, Nigeria has been at the heart of our foreign policy on Africa,’’ he said. According to him, the economic significance of Nigeria could not be “overstated’’. He added that it was “one of the main reasons’’ that the Consulate-General had been reopened. “As the biggest economy in the continent, Nigeria not only plays a major role in shaping developments in Africa, this position also enables Nigeria to contribute to economic growth worldwide,” he said. “Lagos is to Nigeria what Nigeria is to Africa, as an economic heart, with a variety of business manufacturing, trading, cultural exchanges, fashion and entertainment. “This is the reason why Swiss companies are establishing themselves in Lagos and expanding their operations here and in this country as a whole,’’ he added. |

Two Nigerian communities were given the go-ahead Wednesday to pursue compensation claims against oil giant Shell through the British courts. They claim leaks from pipelines have devastated the local environment in the Niger Delta. The Ogale people living in the Niger Delta claim oil spills since 1989 from Shell pipelines have ruined their coastal fisheries and water supply. The nearby Bille community is also suing Shell for allegedly failing to protect the pipelines from damage caused by people trying to steal the oil – so-called “bunkering.” Martyn Day – lawyer for the Ogale and Bille claimants – says it is Shell’s responsibility to prevent the thefts. “In any other part of the world, there would be a heck of a lot more done by an oil company to try to prevent it happening. And when it does happen to make sure firstly, you know as soon as it’s happened, so some good early warning systems. And secondly that you immediately close down the pipeline to make sure that any leakage is very, very minimal,” said Day. Shell declined an interview – but issued a statement saying that the areas are heavily impacted by crude oil theft, pipeline sabotage and illegal refining which remain the main sources of pollution. Secret Reporters River State Governor Ben Ayade may bear the toga of ‘His Excellency’, but the real governor of the state is Mr Frank Ayade, his younger brother, sources confided in us. We gathered that in Calabar where he holds sway, he is revered more than the man elected to govern the people and goes about in convoy with five bullet proof among the vehicles. Known to be a weakling governor, but his strength lies in his ability to con his people. According to reliable sources, Ben has turned the little resources of the state into charity, doling out money to projects that has no benefit to the electorates. One of such wasteful project is ‘A mother and Child pageant’, where he doled out One Million Naira each to thirteen of the contestants. Citizens who reached out to us relayed that he is the most wasteful governor that ever presided over the state. Unlike Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke who moved around in three vehicles without bike riders, he goes about with four bike riders and thirty vehicles, intimidating the people and shutting down major roads. “In Cross River State, our governor has taken more international tourist trips than the President of the country. No wonder he bought a helicopter to remain airborne as a governor. This aircraft freak attitude has been the reason why most policy ideas seem to be coming from outer space. When not airborne, he is ever cruising with a motorcade of 10 power bikes and 30 first class jeeps blaring sirens and causing traffic. When out of the country for one of his international tours, peace and quietness escapes Calabar as his brother, Frank Ayade take over as the “de facto governor” with more sirens”, the source stated. The Super six highway projected flagged off by President Muhammadu Buhari is said to be a scam, as money meant for it may be diverted, state a source. This is in spite of all the road networks in Calabar no longer motorable as before, with potholes all over, with streetlights that used to adorn the city no longer functioning. Running government on nepotism Further information gathered by Secret Reporters is that the governor s only comfortable with having his family members in his cabinet, or those related to him by marriage. One of those appointed as Special Adviser Eric is his wife’s brother, Akpo for Superhighways and Infrastructure, while Harriet Akpo married to the latter is the SA to the First Lady. All the conferences held in the state are organized by Paschal Akpo, who is also the brother to his wife. Another of the appointee is Philomina Inyang as SA to the 1st Lady who is Doctor Joseph Inyang’s wife and she’s a younger sister to Ayade. Dr Inyang is a Commissioner (Husband to Philomina). The SA on tourism is also married to Ayade’s. Read more at: http://secretsreporter.com/index.php/2016/01/30/gov-ayade-hands-power-reckless-younger-brother-appointing-family-members/ |
