Freelance jobs are actually very lucrative and a lot of people have survived on it. However, it has recently been filled with scammers who want to use writers for free. I had an encounter with a few of them after i joined a freelancing site called Guru.com. i didn't now much about how the site works. i just bid on some jobs i saw and i got invited by three people. All three of them wanted to work with me out of the site and on Skype. Their messages were all generic and automated. i suspected something, but i thought i should give it a try at least for one week. They offered 13 dollars for an article of 500 words and asked me to do at least 5 a day. i agreed. i was always asking about my payment and they were agreeing with all my terms. at first they said PayPal was the mode of payment. Next thing they agreed to transfer to my bank account. i wrote over 20 articles in a week with over 500 words and up to 2000 words. On the Saturday i was supposed to receive my payment, i heard stories that touch. waited till Monday and one stopped answering me on skype. A part of me knew it was scam, so i was relaxed. i have jejely posted all i wrote within that period on my blog. I learned a lot and i decided to share to anyone who may come across such scams so they don't fall victims. I came up with some tips to avoid being scammed on freelance sites and you can find it here. If you meet such people, do not add them on skype. i even learned they can send viruses to your computer and steal your identity. Exercise caution when searching for freelance jobs, if its too good to be true, it probably isn't true.
