Nairaland GeneralCarriers Of Ebola Into Nigeria 'snubbed' Warning Not To Travel To Nigeria by ejlee(op): 4:29pm On Aug 01, 2014
Update: Ebola outbreak, Carriers of Ebola into Nigeria Mr. Sawyer 'Snubbed' Warning About Travel to Nigeria

NIGERIA, (NN1)—The Assistant Minister of Preventive Services of Ministry of Health & Social Welfare has said the Ministry of Finance official who died of the Ebola virus in Lagos State, Nigeria, had left Liberia against warning not to leave. He didn't, however, state whether it was the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Finance that warned him from leaving Liberia.
The Health Official, Mr. Tolbert Nyenswah, was referring to Mr. Patrick Sawyer, Coordinator of the ECOWAS National Unit at the Ministry of Finance.
"Mr. Sawyer was told not to leave the country, but he left," Mr. Nyenswah disclosed on FARBRIC radio's program on the Ebola issue yesterday July 30. He called to the program.
Reports say Mr. Sawyer was in Nigeria for an official meeting when he died of Ebola.
According to official communication from the Ministry of Finance, all Finance Ministry officials who had direct or indirect contact with the late Sawyer before he departed for Nigeria have been placed on the WHO-mandated 21-day surveillance beginning from July 20, the date the diseased Finance Ministry official left Liberia for Nigeria. Mr. Nyenswah said the government has traced Mr. Sawyer's movements to where he died by speaking to authorities of Liberia's international Airport (RIA) and those of Nigeria.
However, the government had not tracked the vehicle that took Mr. Sawyer to RIA. "Here is where we erred," Mr. Nyenswah responded to the question from Mr. Christian Nelson of Radio Lib, a US-based sister radio station of FARBRIC, on whether Liberia's Ministry of Health had tracked the vehicle to prevent its contact with uninfected persons.
The person with Mr. Sawyer in the vehicle to the Airport should also be tracked.
Minister Nyenswah noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) has said Liberia needs about US$14M to fight the Ebola virus in the country. "This is far more than the one-point-five million dollars the Ministry had requested, which some Liberians said was too much," the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of the Republic of Liberia stressed.
He admitted that the Ministry of Health genuinely appreciates the Liberian news media's partnership in the fight against the Ebola virus, but warned against politicization of the issue by the same pro-fight partner.
The Ebola virus entered Liberia, via Guinea, in March, 2014, and has killed over 125 persons in Liberia, according to official information from the Ministry of Health. Some of its victims are nurses at various hospitals, a Ugandan specialist doctor (Sam Mutooro Muhumuza) hired to contain the virus in Liberia, and, recently, a top medical doctor (Samuel Brisbane) at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center. The total number of deaths for 2014's alone is 672 for West Africa--current represented by Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The number is 112 more than that of 1976, when the virus was first discovered in the Republic of Congo.

What is Ebola virus disease?
Ebola virus disease (EVD) was previously known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever.
It is a severe, often fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees).
EVD is caused by a virus, and first appeared in 1976 when two outbreaks (one in an area near the Ebola River in Democratic Republic of Congo, and the other in South Sudan) occurred. Since then, sporadic outbreaks have occurred, most commonly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Sudan, Congo and Gabon.
The origin of Ebola virus is not known, but fruit bats are thought to be the likely host of the virus.

How do people become infected with Ebola virus?

Ebola virus is transmitted to humans through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals (which include chimpanzees, gorillas, bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines). This occurs when hunters/other persons come into contact with dead animals found lying in the rainforest, or handling raw meat of infected animals.
Once a person is infected, the Ebola virus can spread to other people in the community.
Infection occurs from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes, including the nose, eyes and mouth) with blood, or other bodily fluids and secretions (including stool, urine, saliva, semen) of infected people.

Who is at risk for becoming infected with Ebola virus?

During EVD outbreaks, the following persons are most at risk for infection: Healthcare workers
Family members or friends in close contact with infected people, because they come in close contact with infectious secretions/bodily fluids when caring for ill persons
Mourners who have direct contact with the bodies of the deceased as part of burial ceremonies
Hunters/other persons in the rain forest who come into contact with infected animals in the forest

What are the signs and symptoms of EVD?

After infection with the Ebola virus, there is an incubation period of 2- 21 days (on average, 8- 10 days) after which the person will start to experience symptoms. The initial symptoms include fever, weakness and lethargy, muscle pain, headache and sometimes sore throat.
This is followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and sometimes a rash. Some patients may experience bleeding inside and outside of the body; this is the most serious complication.

Can EVD be prevented?

There is no licensed vaccine for EVD. Several vaccines are being tested, but none are available for clinical use as yet. Preventing initial cases is challenging, since it is still not known how exactly Ebola virus is maintained in nature and what preventive interventions would be successful.
Once an initial case of EVD occurs in a community, preventing spread to other people is critical. This includes educating the general public about the disease and how it can be prevented from spreading further.

CelebritiesBeyonce-jay Z Rubbish Divorce Rumours, Share Romantic Lunch Date by ejlee(op): 1:43am On Jul 24, 2014
Music industry's power couple Jay Z and Beyonce have shrugged off split rumours after they were spotted taking a day off in New Orleans for a romantic lunch date.
The couple - who are currently on their joint 'On The Run' world tour - are said to be working out a way to break-up without divorcing following the final dates of tour in Paris this December and have already removed their wedding rings.
However, things seemed to be the opposite this weekend when the couple who have been married for six years, were seen spending some time alone, enjoying an intimate lunch at Cochon Restaurant in New Orleans. They also had their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Blue Ivy with them.
Beyonce shared a photo with fans on Instagram to share an adorable family snap with husband Jay Z swinging the couple's 2-year-old little girl while they both held on tight to her hands.

People magazine reported that the couple looked relaxed and low-key, and were seen sharing cozy moments together.
Later on they were joined by Beyonce's sister Solange and a group of friends as they enjoyed a grand dinner at Kingfish in the historic French Quarter.
According to sources, the 'On The Run' world tour will be the last for Jay Z, 44, and Beyonce, 32, after marriage counsellors failed to help them get their relationship back on track.
It is believed the couple - who have a 2-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy - thought having their first child would bring them closer again but they soon started to go their separate ways.
Let's hope the power couple hold on through their tough times!

Nairaland GeneralUpdate: Taiwan Plane Crash, President Expresses Sorrow As Transasia Apologize by ejlee(op): 11:35pm On Jul 23, 2014
TAIWAN , (NN1)—President Ma Ying-jeou expressed deep sorrow Wednesday night after learning of the TransAsia Airways crash in Penghu that may have killed as many as 46 of its 58 passengers, according to a Presidential Offices spokeswoman.
Ma Wei-kuo said the president has instructed the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of what caused the Wednesday evening accident as soon as possible.
The president called Premier Jiang Yi-huah as soon as he learned of the air crash on the outlying island county, the spokeswoman said.
Jiang immediately set up a disaster response center at the Executive Yuan to handle the aftermath of the accident, including rescuing the injured, finding the cause of the crash and providing every possible assistance to the crash victims' family members, the spokeswoman said.
President Ma is closely watching what he called the most severe aviation accident in Taiwan in years, the spokeswoman added.
The ruling Kuomintang, which is chaired by President Ma, offered its condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the crash and said in a statement that it will do whatever it can to offer family members of the victims "necessary aid."
The Kaohsiung-Magong flight, coded GE 222, crashed in Penghu's Huxi Township amid heavy rain just past 7:06 p.m.
As of just past midnight Thursday, the number of people killed remained unclear.
Transportation and Communications Minister Yeh Kuang-shih, who set out for Penghu at 11 p.m. Wednesday, confirmed that 54 passengers and four crew members were on board the flight.
He initially said 47 people had died, but later said that 12 had survived, 46 "were missing," and around a dozen bodies had been found at the crash site.
The airplane, a twin-engine turboprop ATR 72, crashed into residential buildings and caught fire after losing contact with Magong airport. No residents were killed but four were apparently injured, according to local eyewitnesses.
The flight was scheduled to take off from Kaohsiung at 4 p.m., heading for Magong. The departure, however, was delayed until 5:42 p.m. due to bad weather.
The Penghu fire department said the passenger aircraft was trying to land in the inclement weather when it crashed on its second attempt.
An investigation has been launched to determine what caused the crash.

TransAsia issues apology over deadly crash in Penghu:

Local carrier TransAsia Airways apologized Wednesday over the fatal crash of its Flight GE 222 on the outlying island county of Penghu Wednesday evening, vowing to provide assistance to the families of the victims.
Chooi Yee-choong, TransAsia's general manager, bowed in "apology for the unfortunate incident" when speaking to the media at the Taipei International (Songshan) Airport just before 11 p.m., about three hours after the incident.
Chooi said his company will go all-out to help the families of the victims deal with the aftermath of the crash and to assist with the Civil Aeronautics Administration's investigation into the cause of the accident.
The airline has arranged a chartered flight for Thursday morning to take the families of the flight's passengers and crew to Penghu, he said.
The survivors of the flight have been sent to Penghu Hospital and the military hospital there to receive medial treatment.

Nairaland GeneralChief Ebola Doctor In Sierra Leone Has Contracted The Deadly Disease Himself by ejlee(op): 7:27pm On Jul 23, 2014
SIERRA LEONE, (NN1)—The “national hero” chief doctor leading the fight against the deadly Ebola virus outbreak in Sierra Leone has himself been infected with the disease, the president’s office has announced.
Sheik Umar Khan, a 39-year-old virologist who is personally credited with treating more than 100 Ebola victims, has now been admitted to a treatment ward at the heart of the outbreak in Kailahun.
According to the latest data from the World Health Organisation, the virus has killed more than 600 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone – including 19 new deaths in just the four days prior to Saturday’s report.
There is no vaccination, specific treatment or cure for Ebola, which has in the past killed up to 90 per cent of those infected. The mortality rate of the present outbreak currently stands at around 60 per cent.
In the statement from the president’s office, the Health Minister Miatta Kargbo said she was in tears when she heard the news about Dr Khan. She described him as a “national hero” and pledged to do “anything and everything in my power to ensure he survives”.
Dr Khan was taken to an Ebola ward run by the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres, which has in recent weeks described the disease’s West African outbreak as “out of control”.
He is not the first health worker to contract the disease in recent weeks, and on Monday dozens of nurses at the government hospital in Kenema – one of the world’s leading Ebola diagnosis facilities – went on strike following the death of three colleagues, the BBC reported.
It was nonetheless not immediately clear how Dr Khan came to be infected. The disease is passed on through bodily fluids such as sweat and saliva – but on a visit to the Kenema facility in late June, Reuters reporters heard how the doctor was “always meticulous with protection, wearing overalls, mask, gloves and special footwear”.
Nevertheless, Khan told reporters he was worried about the prospect of contracting Ebola. “I am afraid for my life, I must say, because I cherish my life,” he said in an interview, showing no signs of ill health at the time.
“Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the first port of call for somebody who is sickened by disease. Even with the full protective clothing you put on, you are at risk.”

An image of US man Jeremy Meeks, 30, was uploaded to the Stockton Police Department’s Facebook page reporting his arrest.

The Stockton Police Department posted it alongside other mugshots after the operation was carried out on Wednesday.
But officers were not quite expecting the response they received.
Tinish Anderson wrote: "Model material. His jaw line. I ain't thirsty but...whew!” while Anita Gibson simply added: “Smoking hot!”
User Princess Jade was more forward, commenting on the photo: “Lock me in his cell” while others jokingly offered to pay his bail.
Many admirers joked about shared cells while comparing Meeks to Abercrombie & Fitch models.
But the symbolic teardrop tattoo beneath his eye did not go unnoticed.
One commenter wrote: “The teardrop usually means they have killed someone. So screw his good looks if you might not wake up after sleeping with him!”
No previous arrest photo has garnered so much attention since the Facebook page was set up in March 2012, Officer Joseph Silva toldThe Associated Press.
“I have not seen that many likes for a photo before,” he said.
Meeks, who has previous convictions, was arrested for firearms offences following a police operation targeting gang behaviour in the northern Californian city.

2015: Gov Uduaghan Declares for Senatorial Seat

Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan on Thursday declared his intention to run for the Delta South Senatorial district election in 2015.
Uduaghan while speaking with journalists in Asaba said that there was an unwritten zonal arrangement on where the senatorial race would go at every point in time.
“This unwritten understanding gives the opportunity to the Itsekiri race, in the senatorial district, to take its turn and I have every right to go.
“When it comes to the issue of election, I have a lot to offer, but the election being one year from now is not what I should break my head over,” he said.
Refuting the allegation that he was defecting to another political party, Uduaghan said that there was no need for such move.
He added that he was a foundation and a life time member of the People’s Democratic Party.
“There is nothing that will ever make me to leave the party, I will swim and sink in PDP and I also know that the party will not sink.
“I will continue to be a member of PDP because Delta is a complete PDP state.
“Few persons in the opposition parties who have not defected to PDP are still waiting for a date to do so”.
He assured the people of the state and Nigeria at large that the present challenge facing the party would soon become a thing of the past adding that PDP remained a strong based party that would be difficult to beat.
Uduaghan announced that PDP was already putting some strategies in place to address its challenges.
The governor who commended the party faithful in the state and its members in the state and the National Assembly, appealed to them to support the party, President Goodluck Jonathan and his 2015 political ambition.
He said that Jonathan had done well but that it was unfortunate that many of his achievements were not properly reported.
Uduaghan added that the administration of Jonathan had more security challenges than previous administrations.
“We are going round the state to appeal to them to give Mr President a chance to continue”.

Glo-Caf Awards, tHE WHAT?? And WINNERS

• Yaya Toure wins for THIRD TIME African Footballer
• NIGERIA wins best National team in Africa
• Keshi WINS Coach of the Year Award
• Yaya wins in 2011,2012 and 2014

Yaya Toure landed the African Footballer of the Year award on Thursday for the third time running.
The Manchester City midfielder edged out Nigeria's John Obi Mikel and fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba to make it a hat-trick of wins, emulating Abedi Pele and Samuel Eto'o.
Ghanaian Abedi Pele won three in a row between 1991-93 while Cameroonian Eto'o took the award from 2003-05.
Eto'o, who plays up front for Chelsea, also won it in 2010.
Yaya was born 13 May 1983,Touré is renowned for combining great vision, passing ability, and physical power with technique. A versatile player, he aspired to be a striker during his youth and has played centre back, including for FC Barcelonain the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. He frequently plays as a box-to-boxmidfielder for club and country and often switches from defensive and offensive positions throughout matches. Touré began his playing career at Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, where he made his debut aged 18. He was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2011 and 2012, and 2013
His performances attracted attention from Europe, playing for clubs in various European leagues. Touré played for Beverenin Belgium, Metalurh Donetskin Ukraine, Olympiacosin Greece, and AS Monacoin France. In 2007, Touré moved to Barcelona, playing over 100 matches for the club and was part of the historic 2009 Barcelona teamwhich won six trophies in one calendar year.
Yaya Touré then moved to Premier League club Manchester City in 2010, where he has since scored a number of key goals for the Citizens – most notably the only goals in the 2011 FA Cup semi-final and Final. Touré has a distinguished international career with 74 capsfor Ivory Coast, representing the team in their first appearance in a FIFA World Cup, in the 2006.
The gifted midfielder scored twice in the CAN 2013, but Ivory Coast failed to meet the expectations as they were beaten by future champions Nigeria in the quarter finals.
He scored four goals for Ivory Coast in the World Cup qualifiers campaign that helped the Elephants to a third straight final in Brazil.
:The 10 goals scored by Toure so far in the Premier League is his best performance in a single season. He hit six during the previous season. Under coach Manuel Pellegrini he was set free in a more attacking role and developed an important aspect of his game: free kicks. He netted four of them.
The 30-year old signed a four-year contract with Manchester City in April 2013 that will reportedly earn him 13.2 million euros until June 2017.
:He plays his 72th game for Ivory Coast playing against Senegal in the World Cup playoffs on 16 November 2013. Toure has scored 12 goals in his international career.
Toure said he may boycott the World Cup 2018 in Russia as he has been victim of racist chants during a Champions League encounter against CSKA Moscow last October. He criticized the country's poor record in the matter and said the players need to be safe when they travel to Russia.

Nairaland GeneralDebate Continues Over UN Force For CAR by ejlee(op): 7:01pm On Jan 06, 2014
Debate Continues Over UN Force for CAR

The U.N. Security Council is scheduled to discuss the situation in the Central African Republic Monday, amid mounting calls for a U.N. peacekeeping force to stop communal violence that exploded one month ago. More than 1,000 people have died and nearly a million displaced from their homes. French and regional troops in the CAR are not seen as impartial or entirely up to halting the clashes.
French and African Union troops intervened in the CAR after communal violence broke out in the capital Bangui on December 5, but the killing continues. Religious and communal tensions are running high.
Some Central Africans said they want U.N. troops to intervene.
This Bangui resident, Mathieu Lamba, said "blue helmets mean protection for civilians." He said, "judging by what has been going on in this city, I can tell you that French and the African Union troops have failed."
He said the French troops were disarming fighters but they changed their tactics after they lost those two soldiers. "We need U.N. troops to protect civilians and get life back to normal," said Lamba.
But others did't see what difference it would make.
Yakaka Abel, asked "Wouldn't the U.N. troops be coming to accomplish the same thing that the international troops already here are trying to do? So shouldn't we just reevaluate and improve the strategies and techniques of these troops?"
Analysts said that U.N. force would likely be the same international troops already there and just "re-hatted" in blue, something similar to what was done in Mali last year.
That process would probably take two to three months.
French officials are pushing for a U.N. force. France currently has 1,600 troops in the CAR but cannot sustain a long-term military engagement and wants to hand it off by the middle of this year.
That would likely not be possible unless the African Union troops get the kind of logistical and financial support that analysts said the U.N. could provide.
But analysts cautioned that the U.N. would be inheriting a problematic force.
Chadian troops, while seasoned and well-equipped, have tended to act autonomously in the CAR. They also may not meet standards for integration into a U.N. force.
The rest of the AU force has been weighed down by logistical issues, like delays transporting troops from their home countries.
The spokesman for the CAR's ex-rebel leader-turned-president said it was too soon to talk about blue helmets.
Presidential spokesman Guy Simplice Kodegue said they haven't even got the 6,000 African Union soldiers on the ground yet and that force doesn't have the appropriate funds in place. He said, "let's focus on that instead of jumping ahead."
But some say a U.N. force would offer more guarantees of impartiality.
The French are accused of not cracking down on the mainly Christian militias and instead focusing on disarming the mainly Muslim rebels who plunged the country into chaos last March.
Chadian troops are accused of siding with those ex-Seleka rebels.
Head of research at the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Center in Accra, Kwesi Aning, said re-hatting to the U.N. could mean more legitimacy.
"A U.N. force is better equipped, is better trained and is [more] ready to protect civilians," said Aning.
He said a U.N. approach was also more comprehensive. "The U.N. doesn't just say we are going in to separate the different parties. The U.N. comes in and seeks to rebuild fundamental institutional infrastructure."
That's something that analysts said was essential for the CAR, which has mired in political unrest and poor humanitarian conditions for decades.
Nairaland GeneralMan Attempt To Please His Wife In Bed Nearly Kills Him by ejlee(op): 9:05am On Jan 06, 2014
Man attempt to please his wife in bed nearly kills him

KENYA :A youthful man in Kericho County is coming to terms with what hit him after a supposed sexual stimulant caused him a dreadful stomach upset.
His stomach kept rumbling and couldnt just cool down. Good Samaritans rushed him to a nearby hospital to save his life.
A friend of the victim only identified as Mike told Crazy Monday that the victim was a businessman in the tea-growing town. It is said he had bought Mkombero (a Kenyan viagra), a popular root believed to boost men’s virile prowess and give extraordinary performance when it comes to ‘gland-to-gland’ combats.
He bought the yet-to-be scientifically certified aphrodisiac from Nakuru, where he had gone to purchase goods for his shop.
“I had accompanied him to Nakuru, but as we were making rounds in the streets, we met a man selling some white roots. The businessman beckoned and asked him if the shrubs were the ones rumoured to help men to recharge their ‘low batteries’,” recalled Mike.
The hawker took time explaining to them how popular the roots are in Western Kenya.
He further explained that despite the fact that the shrub’s aphrodisiac properties are yet to be proven scientifically, they make men deliver a sterling performance between the sheets.
The businessman dug into his pocket and paid for the potent root. He was so excited and eager to see results that he even left the loose change with the shrewd elderly hawker.
However, his friend warned him that such herbs could be dangerous.
“I mocked him that the potency of such roots is just a myth and hawkers are just lining their pockets because they know men, desperate to satisfy their wives, will buy,” explained Mike.
They left Nakuru later in the day, and the businessmen began chewing the roots in a matatu all the way to Kericho.
“Aliniambia hiyo mizizi itakuwa kali sana lakini nilikuwa natarajia matokeo mazuri hata mke atafurahi sana (the hawker told me the roots were so bitter, but I expected good results — my wife, too, would be a happy woman),” the businessman said adamantly against the warning.
Upon arriving, they parted ways, each to his house at around 8 pm. However, at around 11 pm, the businessman woke his friend with a phone call that all was not well with him in the nearby plot.
Shock greeted the friend when he arrived at the businessman’s house only to find him writhing in pain on the ground, arms wrapped around his stomach. His condition seemed to get worse with each passing minute.
The businessman revealed that he started feeling the pain the moment he got to his house and rested his tired bones. At first, he thought they were normal abdominal upsets.
However, the pain persisted and neighbours had to be called. They rushed him to a nearby hospital. The doctor who attended to him termed it ‘food poisoning’, and warned that had they delayed, the case would have been fatal.
“The roots caused some damage on the walls of his stomach,” said the doctor. He was discharged the following day, after a lesson well learnt.

Nairaland GeneralEvacuate Nigerians From Trouble South Sudan - Reps Committee by ejlee(op): 10:01pm On Jan 05, 2014
Evacuate Nigerians from Trouble South Sudan - Reps committee

Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs has charged the Federal Government to make arrangements to evacuate Nigerians in South Sudan against the background of escalating conflict in the country.
The conflict which began on December 15, 2013 between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir’s Dinkas and those supporting former vice president Riek Machar’s Nuer, is gradually turning into a full scale civil war, with countries such as United States of America, Britain and Kenya evacuating their nationals.
Chairperson of the committee, Hon. Nnena Elendu- Ukeje said it was also time that the Federal Government became proactive in evacuating Nigerians in strife-torn countries lest they be stranded in such places.
"My committee would urge, as it urged in the one for Central African Republic ( CAR), that we begin to make arrangement to evacuate our people in South Sudan," she said.
According to her, the ad hoc approach to emergencies like what is happening in Central African Republic ( CAR) and South Sudan may be inimical to the interest of Nigerian citizens in such places.
The lawmaker said it was time that Nigeria puts in place a standard evacuation procedure that could be activated within 24 hours.
Her words: " With everything that's going on, we can't afford to be reactionary. Its about time to get pre-emptive. We've spoken about Central African Republic ( CAR), now its South Sudan, Egypt is boiling, the Philippines is boiling, goodness knows where else would erupt, everywhere is boiling!
" And of course, you know all these places are highly incendiary, you can't tell what is going to happen in another couple of hours. I think that we have to start to get ready and have some standard operating procedure to start to evacuate our people.
"There should be a standard operating system, especially in these countries where there are flash points, so that once we begin to anticipate that things are going to degenerate, then we can deploy within 24 hours."
She however advised Nigerians who travel to foreign countries to ensure that they register at the Nigerian Embassies in those countries in their own interest. This, she said, would aid logistics, planning and successful evacuation in times of emergency.
She said, " Nigerians for God's sake, when they get to these countries, they should go and register at the embassy. So that at least we know, so that we can project how many Nigerians there are in a particular country. Because right now, its such an ad hoc arrangement.
"Such data would allow us know what its costing us, how many aircraft we're taking there and what arrangements to make on ground."
She also warned Nigerian citizens to be mindful of where they go to, saying, “Though the Nigerian government owes its nationals a responsibility, the citizens also owe themselves the responsibility to stay alive.
"And where they find themselves in such places, when they see the situation is getting bad, they should start to make moves to come back, so that we're not constantly caught in the cross- hairs."
The lawmaker who expressed delight at the successful evacuation of 474 Nigerians from the crisis-ridden Central African Republic at the weekend said her committee working in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, would always champion the safety of Nigerians in such emergency situations.

Nairaland GeneralBoko Haram BOMB MAKER Arrested-p.m by ejlee(op): 9:25pm On Jan 05, 2014
Boko Haram BOMB MAKER arrested-P.M

The Nigerian Joint Task Force, JTF, fighting terrorists in northern part of the country said it has apprehended a Boko Haram chieftain, who doubles as the group’s bomb maker in Kazaure, Jigawa state, north-western Nigeria.
Captain Ikedichi Iweha, spokesman of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, headquartered in Kano, said six people were rescued during a dawn raid that led to the arrest of the yet to be identified terrorist.
Those rescued were three women and three toddlers, suspected to be family members of the man who intelligence gathering revealed has been in the business of aiding and abating terrorist activities in the North.
Items recovered during the raid that resulted into a gun duel include five AK 47 rifles, five magazines, and 333 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and various improvised explosive devices.
Iweha said: “In continuation of operations aimed at complementing the efforts of military operation in the North Eastern part of the country and as is customary with the JTF in Kano, the command deems it fit to keep the general public up to speed with developments in the fight against terrorists in its area of operational responsibility.
“In the early hours of yesterday, 4 January 2014, at about 0100 hours (1:00 am), following extensive intelligence build up, troops of the 3 Brigade in Kazuare Local Government Area, Jigawa State conducted a pre dawn raid at a residence.
“One terrorist was apprehended after a gun battle; while three women and three toddlers were extricated unhurt. Five AK 47 rifles, Five magazines, and 333 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and various improvised explosive devices were recovered from the residence on further search. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is an Improvised Explosive Devices manufacturer and his residence a staging ground for terrorist activities in Kano.
“You may recollect that the JTF had earlier alerted members of the general public of fleeing terrorists from major theatres of operation in the North east axis of the country to ‘cooler ‘ areas due to pressure being mounted on them by the ongoing military operations in these areas.
“Members of the general public are once again enjoined to continue complimenting the efforts of the JTF by carrying out thorough checks on the background of persons who wish to let properties especially in cool zones or out skirt areas of major towns. The 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Kano would not allow its area of operational responsibility to be used as haven for terrorists. The appeals of the JTF will continue to be complimented with the destruction of properties terrorists reside in and the arrests of their owners.
“The effort of the JTF would not be successful without the cooperation of the residents. The JTF therefore calls on all residents not to relent in the fight against terrorist elements who are seeking refuge by reporting any suspicious persons regardless of gender for immediate action to prevent the loss of lives and properties. Additionally, members of the general public are please enjoined to go about their normal lawful businesses without any fear and to contact the JTF through its telephone numbers in the event of any distress for rapid response.”

Politics....THINK THANG Of President Goodluck Jonathan Towards AFRICA by ejlee(op): 10:28pm On Jan 04, 2014
.....THINK THANG of President Goodluck Jonathan towards AFRICA

On July 15, 2012 a major power shift took place on the African continent. Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma , South African Minister for Home Affairs and formerly foreign minister was elected chairperson of the African Union Commission, beating out Nigeria candidate incumbent Jean Ping of Gabon and becoming the first female to lead the AU. It may prove to be the day that leadership in Africa was finally consolidated by strength of Foreign Policy, South Africa. The new position at the head of the continent may also signal a shift in recent South African foreign policy and defence commitments on the continent as it becomes necessary to embrace a truly pan-African vision.

Africa Leader tussle?
With south Africa being the current control of AU.The only African member of both the BRICS group of emerging economies and the G-20, and Africa’s largest economy put them as the "for now" Africa power house a fact know by nigeria and the world.
However Nigeria still view as sleeping giant need to show the country’s willingness to support growth and a stable economic and security in Africa. And Openly make Known its leadership Role In Africa unlike the total denial of jean ping Candidate for AU Top job.
At the AU January summit, former chair Jean Ping won all three rounds of voting but could not garner a two-thirds majority of member states’ votes to ensure his re-election and thus the need for the deciding vote in Addis Ababa to break the deadlock.
Originally South Africa had declined to field a candidate for the post, as an unwritten AU rule deemed the major African states—Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Nigeria and South Africa—unfit to lead as it would mean too much power focussed in one state and thus the preference was for leaders from smaller countries. However after diplomatic debacles surrounding AU interventions in Libya and Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa reconsidered its position and began an invigorated election campaign to land at the helm of the Commission.
Amongst concerns over a possible Anglophone- Francophone splitin the AU, the final round voting was split for both candidates across linguistic, regional, ideological and gender lines with 37 of 51 voting states

PRESIDENT JONATHAN power
For Africa to Move Forward AU big Boss needs to repairing relations with Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan,to work effectively in Resolving pressing issues such as Sudans crisis, piracy and the Al-Shabaab insurgency in Somalia, and the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt etc. Since the African Union is the only multilateral institution in protecting Africa.
Above All, president jonatha need to wear the THE RED CAP of Africa and Oppose who he deem to Oppose and take Strong decisive Step in Any Africa crisis even if it means Military Action and should respect the US not FEAR them.
SINCE NIGERIA foreign policy is centre of Africa is time for Nigeria to be build strong Allies in North, south, central and west Africa in fighting a Just course in Africa and put final end to the Ongoing crisis in Africa Only Africans can fight their fight and such can only be done by Strength not by Large Economy and Only Nigeria can lead the way. Remember Africans is watching.

OH WHY OWERRIhuh....Woman collapses, dies while giving testimony in church

Tragedy struck in Umuogwuta, Ndegwu, Owerri West local council area of Imo State, as a lady who was giving her testimony during the New Year service suddenly collapsed and died.
A native of the town said: “The Lagos-based lady, Ifeoma Anozie, collapsed and died while giving her testimony inside Saint John’s Anglican Church, Ndegwu.”
It was gathered that Ifeoma returned to her country home not to only give testimony about her achievements in the passing year, but also felicitate with her kith and kin.
“The lady had hardly commenced her testimony when she suddenly slumped and died in front of the officiating cleric and left the congregation completely perplexed,” the villager said.
Speaking also on the issue, a woman who simply identified herself as Felicia, lamented that what ordinarily should have been a double celebration for the Anozie family suddenly turned sour.
“The church service was designed to be a double celebration for the Anozie family. It, however, turned out to be a tragedy for the family, the church and Ndegwu community,” Felicia lamented.
Other villagers that also spoke on the development, said Ifeoma was a very promising young lady but none could guess she would die untimely.
The cause of her death could not be ascertained at press time, as no member of her immediate family could be reached for comments.
However, the remains of the lady had been deposited in an undisclosed hospital morgue.
